Who would have thought that I’d like the 4 stroke better than the 2 stroke? This has been my favorite 4 stroke enduro bike to date. It’s good. It’s very good. I’d certainly buy one. This 2019 Beta 390RR Race Edition has quite arguably the best forks I’ve tested on a stock bike. It’s got a very surprising power plant that doesn’t bite your head off and just makes things easy. If you are on the fence, get off. Climb down and try a Beta!
This is not a paid review in any way. Beta loaned this bike to me and I have spoken my mind. If I don’t like something, I tell you… it’s as simple as that.

The kick starter is available as an option if you want it, there is a screw on larger foot available for the side stand, I have the 15 litre IMS tank, gives me 300 Kms range. After market brake pedal that extends the length and width . There is a rear steel rack available you want to carry some gear or a small top box for adventure touring. It is certainly very rideable and also very reliable. Get one, I did and it’s incredible.

Me three! Loved the 390RR. I think I slightly prefer the Beta 250RR two stroke. I will be buying one soon! Wish they made youth bikes (i.e. 65 and 85 xc oriented bikes). I wont be buying another orange bike for myself.

I have been waiting for this review ever since you started riding it.
Thank you, excellent information and very thorough review of the bike. Beta has definitely got my attention.
I think the funny thing about many riders is they see reviews or read things in magazines which are trying to stretch out the most extreme to the edge performance, and by that I mean wheel spinning power, but the vast majority of the riders do not have the skill or the situation to use or need every ounce of 'fire breathing' performance.
I have run into riders who quickly dismiss my comments regarding setup, control and confidence being more important. They have ego and testosterone blocking out reason. So, they get what will impress others and do things to tell others about, but they get the wrong bike with the wrong setup. They do have cool stickers though ;-)
Most riders in my experience just go riding. And while many do ride very difficult, technical trails, the high performance they really need is control.
That is what you are telling us this bike does. Provides enhanced control which leads to higher level of confidence, which leads to better days on the trail.
I have begun meeting other riders on the trail who are starting to get that idea now too. Funny thing is, they are all saying the same thing. Increased control and confidence allows them to ride longer, be faster in almost all situations, and have less fatigue. All of which leads to a better experience.
Thank you for your Excellent review!

I put guards on both brake discs, radiator guards, bark busters with hand guards, rekluse clutch, heavy duty water pump, larger tank (which required a special seat from Seat Concepts), and a few other guards which makes it a much better (and costly) bike.

  • @Danger_mouse

That issue with the dash is the bike battery not being strong enough to crank the engine.
When you press start, the voltage sometimes drops below the dash memory voltage trying to crank the engine, and the trip meter and clock reset.
Try it out with a multimeter on the battery doing repeated starts.
Odd that you love the fork, it's universally unloved in Australia, where tuners find it hard to get a good action from it, certainly in the previous years.

Yeah, looked good so I bought a 2021 390 RR Race. Arrived from the factory in Italy without a muffler/exhaust. Dealer put a used, noisy crappy FMF one on it that I absolutely hated and it was not the one that came with the stock bike. Within a couple of months, it was in for a top end gasket replacement. A month later it need a fuel sending unit. Also, the speedo unit did not work when I got it. When I finally received the exhaust/muffler two months into my season, the tire hit the insideof the muffler and made big black marks. Beta said this was normal in the email they sent me. The LED aftermarket lights the dealer put on also didn't work and they weren't able to figure out where the problem was. Also lost a head pipe bolt within a few hundred kms. PDI was abysmal. Distributor provided absolutely no help whatsoever though they were aware that the bike shipped with parts missing.

If you don't mind someone other than Kyle speaking on this, I can tell you my experience. What I noticed about the Husky vs Beta in ways of geometry, is the Beta actually feels a little more open in the cockpit area. I felt like I had a little more room to move around on the Beta, whereas the Husky had me continually messing with bar position to find comfort. But the Beta is lower to the ground by a bit less than an inch, so that is where I think it is a good bike for the sub 6 footers. In my personal opinion, I felt the Beta was more of a comfortable geometry. The Husky on the other hand, felt like it put you in an attack stance for aggressive riding. So I think it's preference. But again, this is just how I felt from one to the other.

I’ve had major issues with rough idle and power at higher altitudes
I am doing stepper motor reset to begin my ride. For example I’ll do reset at 4,500 ft and the bike runs rough above 6,200 and won’t even idle above 6,700
If I do stepper calibration at 3,000 ft it won’t run well above 5,000 feet
    Any suggestions?

Great review Kyle! One thing that I miss is how the bike is to work/service in the man cave? I really like how easy the KTMs are to work on. Good access, nice put together assemblys with low count of different spanner sizes and so on. How is the BETA in this aspect? I've worked on later models Shercos and they were not as easy to work on as my KTMs. Also, how is build quality regarding the electrics etc. I often find that the Italians struggle with these things...
One more question: When can you start buying "Dirt Bike Channel" t-shirts and more? I hope you can sort out overseas shipping also :)
    Keep up the good work!
