I didn't realize that they eventually made it into an actual movie until like, a few weeks after it's initial release. In the long run, it's not that bad of a movie. At least concept wise. Probably could of been better if it was a tv series first. But hey, could be better in the possible sequel.
I like the realistic portrayal of how humans abandon and discriminate against people just trying to get by, and how the police contribute to ruining these people’s lives.
I enjoyed Code 8, but it felt like it could have been constructed a lot more tightly. Probably the standout example of that is the healer: for the life of me, I don't know why she was in the film, and her presence actually creates some problems. In no particular order... -How is her power useful to Marcus? Her 'healing' is a 1-to-1 transfer of injuries/illnesses from one person to herself, and Marcus apparently uses her to roll back some kind of chronic lung problem...but for some reason, the only time we see her ever cough is when she was actively healing him. On a similar note... -...why is anyone impressed by her power? If we had seen her take Connor's cut from his arm, and then saw it rapidly knit itself back together once it was on her body (ie, some low-tier Wolverine healing factor) then that would be one thing. It might be painful for her to take injuries from others, and even explain her drug dependence (kind of like how Painkiller Jane has a massive healing factor...but it doesn't make the injuries hurt any less, hence the habit she got the name from), and make forcing her to use her power a far more interesting moral dilemma. If the act of healing Connor's mother would have been horrific but nonfatal agony, then it turns it from 'Would you take a random but innocent life to save a loved one?' to 'Would you torture a random but innocent life to save a loved one?' The latter seems to have a lot more potential as a moral dilemma. But regardless, that brings me to the next issue... -...which is that her presence needlessly complicates the end of Connor's arc. The entire reason he went into crime was for money to pay for medical treatments for his mother despite her opposition, and it ended with him choosing to respect her wishes and let her pass peacefully rather than resorting to increasingly immoral acts in the name of saving her. The healer was completely unnecessary to that arc, as described. The fight in the garage ended with Marcus dead and Garret on his way to filling the criminal void left behind. It seemed pretty clear that, if Connor wanted to, he would have been welcome in Garret's new organization, probably as his second-in-command if not outright partner. All we needed was for Connor to part ways with Garret, go to the hospital to have one final conversation with his mother before she passes, and then turn himself in. There's a fair amount of other stuff unrelated to her, but most of it comes down to stuff that felt like it should have either been given more thought, or left on the cutting room floor. Still liked the movie, though, and I'll probably watch the miniseries spinoff that's in the words.

It's pretty hard to accept that superpowered citizens are having a hard time finding regular jobs while there's really no 'cost' for their powers. As long as they could control their power, they should be able to do anything a regular human does. Also, realistically, I think superpowered citizens would have been very useful for either the military or law enforcement. The fact that the movie does not seem to utilize them to the same extent as how criminals does is just... weird??
People would be afraid because they couldn’t control them, likely they would use them for the military in a suicide squad type fashion. Step out of line and your head explodes deal. So who actually wants to do that? They would never just willing accept them across the board because of fear.
DC's Injustice & X men deals with such things. Ordinary citizens like Me aur you would be afraid if let's say 10-20% of citizens turns out to be Superhumans. We would be the first to demand a curb on their powers, laws regulating their Personal life & maybe even want them to be confined at a single place (Like Ymir subjects in AOT)
I’m surprised the government wouldn’t have specific roles designed for supers to fill and have appropriate payment of said roles for example Rhino would be excellent on the police force as a lead entry man in clearing buildings as it puts normals at no risk of harm.
I think this would be interesting to watch from the Police's perspective too, like imagine a show like S.W.A.T. but set in this world? That would be quite interesting.
So let me get this straight, you got people with powers who are left homeless because no one wants to employ them and everyone is shocked they turned to crime?
Garret and Connor are related in real life. Cousins or something. There both on respective cw superhero TV shows like the flash, arrow, Legends of tomorrow. Conner died in flash and Garrett stared in arrow and died in the end. Connor wasn't a star in his show but Garrett was. Garrett is the arrow aka Oliver queen. And Connor is half of the F.I.R.E.S.T.O.R.M matrix aka Ronnie raymond
If y'all have watched The Flash/Arrow (Warner) you might know that Stephen Amell (Oliver Queen/Green Arrow [Garret in this movie]) is the cousin of Robbie Amell (Ronnie Raymond/Firestorm [Connor in this movie])

We would be the first to demand a curb on their powers, laws regulating their Personal life & maybe even want them to be confined at a single place (Like Ymir subjects in AOT)
I love your video Bro keep it up and your the best.
It funny that from one street shot, I knew this film was filmed in Toronto even that it was not a downtown shot.
There was a scene in regent park too
The Amell brothers in Toronto. Gotta love the Canadian content.
*cousins, whatever
I didn't realize until the garage at 3:38
I saw the short for this movie a while ago, like maybe 2+ years ago? Glad to see it was turned into a full movie and kept some of the same actors.
Garrett should have used his arrows.
I’ve watched it it’s a seriously underrated
This was one of the best movies I ever watched, it puts an interesting twist on “the good honest citizen resorts to crime because drastic situation”
Idk why the people who could read minds didn’t just go into the police force for finding criminals.
And for electrics, why not just….. work at a power plant?
And the healers doctors, simple.
be a canon director for it lol.
they need permits for using their powers, the laws made it so powers are prohibited@@Xiiki
I’m surprised the government wouldn’t have specific roles designed for supers to fill and have appropriate payment of said roles for example Rhino would be excellent on the police force as a lead entry man in clearing buildings as it puts normals at no risk of harm.
Gotta love how they got cousins for the roles
Before I watsch your vids:
Thank you god for your blessings
It is both fear and love that drive human beings to do what they do.
You should do more of these fantasy, si-fi, movies
Garrett sounds like an okay guy. Classy gangster.
I never was this fast to click on a video
I died laughing when he introdused Cumbo 🤣🤣😂😂
Is there no health insurance in the future? "Mom, you need kemo", "Sry, we can't afford it." like... wut.
Well this is the US, same as nowadays...
Watching this again before watching the Code 8 part 2
I think this would be interesting to watch from the Police's perspective too, like imagine a show like S.W.A.T. but set in this world? That would be quite interesting.
I saw this movie and it was really good. The Amell Cousins are really good actors.
the new arrowverse series looks interesting
So let me get this straight, you got people with powers who are left homeless because no one wants to employ them and everyone is shocked they turned to crime?
Pretty realistic.
Stephen amell at it again nice
I think this would be a dope idea for a tv show. I felt like i was watching a pilot episode when i first watched this
Nia and that one guy relationship reminds me of something...
Redo of Healer
bro if i was an electric in a power outage i would go over and light up my whole town
this didnt have a good ending, more like a realistic one, i mean, what was good in this ending
The cops got rewards)
Anyone else laugh and have to re-listen the scene where the cops ‘invite’ Conner to the police station?
This movie is what I would think if my hero was more realistic
Love how this movie started as a Short Film first, interesting to see the small differences to the story
