Its a tale of two cities. From my walk in from the once buzzling Haymarket to The Moor. Personally I don't like the modern Orwellian Moor and Pinstone St or markets. I was here before 1994.

I remember buying my wedding dress, bridesmaids from Debenhams. Also my future mother-in-law back in 1982 , also ordered her outfit there. Sheffield looked a lot better back then. Thanks for the memories Tim👍🏻😀

I was meaning to nip to Holland & Barrett at Barker's Pool last Wednesday and I was so busy thinking how to avoid the works on Fargate, I forgot to go there, that's how messed up things are. Sheffield City Council helping the High Street & it's stores to reduce footfall to the shops were supposed to be supporting our High Street. Well done SCC!! 👍🤔
My dad always used to say Sheffield council always lays paving and by the time they get to the end they start pulling it back up where they began. I think he was right.

@ not at all Tim , it’s country wide I’m afraid . I grew up in Berwick upon tweed and family in Liverpool . In the seventies there was less money but Christmas decorations were amazing . I missed the bears at Meadowhall , it’s the same , very minimal effort into Christmas displays . I remember the big department stores with mechanical shows in the windows and proper displays . Minimal effort for fear of offending anyone .

It took 2yrs to erect the eiffel tower. This is just ridiculous, every week I walk down Fargate I can only count at least 5-6 workers. What on earth were the council thinking ???
I live in chesterfield I catch the train to Sheffield to shop, I would like to invite you to come do a vlog in chesterfield and I guarantee you’ll suddenly appreciate your busy city again because in comparison it’s dead here with 0 nightlife. 😢
There's not much work being done there at all, I arrived in Sheffield in Feb 22 and left May 24, those improvement works outside Nero, Boots and M&S was there the whole time., I never actually saw anyone working there.
@@timawells Lol, I seriously would have thought that the council would have been fixing the derelict buildings, I dunno maybe make build some houses on it, I was surprised at the amount of buildings falling into disrepair and the massive vacant lot next to the petrol garage next to the tram line by Netherthorpe, not to mention Spital Hill Works sitting empty for how many years?. Nope the Council thinks right, let's put a new pavement down...? It's just for the trade, to earn revenue. I think the tax payers moneys is going on the Council's interests, and not going where it should be.
I moved to Sheffield from Lincoln back in 1987,after leaving home at 15 living in a bedsit i wanted out of Lincoln i went to rick city in Nottingham to see faith no more and people we're begging outside to get in.. I asked why had a chat the very next week i started hitchhiking round the uk to city's begging out side gigs (saying some bull crap like iv lost ALL my money) getting enough for a ticket and a couple of beer's, (the band was NEW MODEL ARMY)..i came to Sheffield 3 times in 1986 each time left a positive memory i liked Sheffield and the last gig was at the University it ended before 11pm so asked were to go someone said there off down the limit come.. (had no clue what a limit was but im in for a penny, (ill go!). Lol and it was the most amazing night club iv ever been to, and that was it i was going to move here, the next day before i left i walked round Sheffield to have another look at my new to be home and it was packed, went down, 0wel in tha road,.. N seen some fish (but them there fish dint look nice, lol,( brothers arms.. Lol. ,).. Out of every city in the uk and Scotland Sheffield was the best, it had the best night life, the best shops, the nicest people youll ever meet every one i asked where to go gave me there time a young 16 year old kid with dyed black hair all spiked up same as Robert smith from the cure and skin tight jeans slipped into big German army boots (leather jacket no bike, (iv got a motorbike jacket but im walking all the time. Lol x .. This is England by the clash, they also mention Sheffield in that song) anyway my point is im still hear, and its only the people that keep me hear, because unlike any other City you will go to Sheffield people give you Unconditional Love by using the word love and now when I leave Sheffield, like I went to India for a year when I came back I got off at the train station and went to Greggs and The Woman Behind the Counter went hiya are you okay and what would you like love,.. Omg i felt like crying the warmth from that word is so beautiful and been so missed| and we all use it some without knowing the power but the point is its that what keeps me here now the people because Sheffield people are still the same, the city has gone they cam take that we, us, you are what make Sheffield so fantastic and the best city in the whole of the UK.. Unrecognisable it's so sad, I was born in 82 and remember sheffield at its best as a kid. This just looks decrepid and lost in time. New builds everywhere but a city that's lost its identity and soul
I’ve lived in Sheffield for 4 years now and I swear up and down Fargate has been in construction since I’ve been here. Also to add, I don’t think the pavements on Fargate will be ‘safe’ enough for people to walk on when it will eventually be done. I walked past the cathedral about 10 days ago. I ended up slipping and injured my knee and I think the pavements look almost the same and aren’t great to be honest.
Time our towns and cities fought back against these dumping grounds, due to certain government and councils wasting money on things they should not be doing. Absolute disgraceful .
Christmas markets looks 60% fast food outlets as you say taking away customers from local businesses, hmm 🤔 that’s well thought out and also no Christmas music whatsoever, not very Christmasy not a patch on Manchester, great walk around 👍
Sad that I can't show how fantastic my home city is, it was once out of this world at Christmas. Hardly a decoration in the shops. I prefer decent real markets selling every day goods. Take me back to the 1970s.

This is verging on sabotage, Meadowhall must love the council and planners for helping them, I bet absolutely no consideration was given to works happening over Christmas. Don't forget the shipping container fiasco too.
It's really great to watch an honest look at a City centre, showing how bad things really are. Unlike some other walk around videos that are more like an advertisement for the tourist board, only venturing around the nice and clean areas of the City centre. This council should be ashamed.

Is metal how long construction takes in Sheffield, that fargate area and that roundabout, feels like a scam where it's been dragged out to generate more money for someone in higher places, in the 1920s it took just over a year to build Empire state building
The are repaving Fargate and the costs have doubled already from £17 million. Clinton cards is being turned into an events hub and Fargate will become something out of 1984 I think with a big screen.
Don’t let them take marks and Spencer out they did that in chesterfield and put it outside of town biggest mistake they’ve ever made because towns dead and older people struggle to get to it.
i don't know about you guys who are from sheffield whenever someone comes to visit sheffield from a different city or a different country i always feel embarrassed a couple of years ago me and my mum went to leeds and that is far better than sheffield leeds beats sheffield no dout

They bring xmas markits in cus it would be empty with out, I know how it used to be I was born in 1964. Co op used to do xmas grotto as wellyrs ago.

I haven't been in town for 7yrs. Friends have told me how bad it is now.

Got loads of videos on Chesterfield as I go down regular. I am very critical of destruction of the market area.

Presumably widening the pavements, narrowing the roads and making the place even less attractive to the dwindling public.

Good point Sally some of these slabs are dangerous with a bit of water on them.

I am doing the best I can, I was on roundabouts solo and with groups from the lockdown. I have found this way more effective to wake people up.

Sheffield used to put Leeds to shame before 94. I visited Leeds during the summer and there were crowds of people.
