It seems these councils are doing everything they can to ruin town and city centres. They are doing this at the time that high streets are struggling. Few people can see through it.
The most useless council in the world. They spend money on this nonsense when traffic lights at many junctions are 20+ year old and fail on regular basis and heavy accidents have happened. Streets full of filth, mud and dirt, scrap vehicles parked for years making pedestrians walk on the road in the dark, trucks parked on pavements... True w@nkers...
Definitely an accident waiting to happen. When you cross traffic by any method, you always try & make eye contact with the driver, for your own safety.
Something else about the obsession of single lanes with councils such as Sheffield, access for emergency vehicles is so much harder, never mind the pointless tactic of bumper to bumper vehicles, also they should be signs for pedestrians and cyclists to stop and look at the crossings
This roundabout is bang in the middle of 2 major routes to the hallamshire and northern general hospitals. If you're lucky enough to get an ambulance I hope you get there in time.
As a cyclist cycling through this area I am very aware that not all motorists will give priority to pedestrians and cyclists, despite signs leading up to this roundabout. I have to stop to make sure motorists see me before crossing so what's the point in this roundabout? I have seen a number cars ignoring the right of way already.
It's a powderkeg waiting to go off . 1 traffic as you stated is backing up wait until it's a full working week it will back up big time . 2 the single lanes are hindering fast response time wise . 3 anything brakes down a bus for exsample how do you get to them due to back up traffic ? 4 the plants that will be put there if it's anything like the courts this will hinder drivers from seeing causing a visable obstruction . 5 the bike lanes are taking away key footpaths so for exsample any bike flying down tentor street towards the corner ( fire museum )will cause mayor injurys to people . 6 the bike riders will not stick to they lanes they will cut up at the crossings to save time . 7 drivers are clearly unsure at crossings etc so may over react with each other bikers walkers fellow drives . 8 the disabled ie blind people with they dogs they are no traffic lights so how do they know when to cross ie give the dog the command to walk but due to no lights no crossing sound ( beep beep ) that has now caused major issues Hands plus discrimination. My judgement it needs ripping out and people sacked planning committee plus councillors voted out . Maybe a legal response is required.
I was crossing there only 5 months ago, nightmare from a pedestrians pov. Lol, has anyone told that guy he can buy a holder for the phone on his bike for just a couple of quid, it could save his life cos not all drivers are paying attention, everyone knows that. Don't they?
@@timawells You would think wouldn't you? I suppose it will look and be a lot safer when it's finished. @@timawells Well, roundabouts and me, whilst in Sheffield at any rate, are not the best of friends lol... I do agree with you though, especially with the amount of visitors Sheffield gets.
Allegedly it "only" cost £18 million 🙄 I read somewhere there's a dedicated anticlockwise bike lane. That should be safer for a cyclist as they would be facing the oncoming vehicles. A bit like walking on the right side of country roads facing the traffic. However it will be counterintuitive for cyclists especially as all other roundabouts are taken clockwise Allegedly the one in Cambridge has had 10 collisions to 2023 since opening in 2020, three of them serious, compared to six minor incidents during 2017-2019.
As a cyclist and a motorist I feel that the knobber on the bike is giving cyclists a bad rep. As a motorist I am disgusted that the council are waging a war on driving and using the agenda to get us out of our cars and tax us to death for the unrealistic aim of net zero.
It is never a good idea to stop the movement of traffic on a roundabout, We saw the issue on this very video, the emergency vehicles were stuck behind cars that were giving way on the exit. I agree that this is an accident waiting to happen. As a cyclist myself,i can see the benefit to myself at this particular intersection,as i have had a couple of close calls on this exact roundabout. I personally have never seen anything quite like this before, and i think a lot of other road users wont have either. Confusion is going to be a factor i think.
police have right of way over everyone ,, everone knows that , get out of the way of you could end up brown bread .Thats what the sirens and blue flashing lights are for , come on.
Try pulling out on a bus on that thing, it is not easy. Drivers also dont know what indicators are for these days, you have to guess which exit they aee using. The one at the end of Badsley moor lane in Rotherham is just as bad.
It's hard to think of one thing that the council has done for the good of sheffield and it's residents lately. It's a shambles, a waste of taxes and just catering for the minority.
It seems these councils are doing everything they can to ruin town and city centres. They are doing this at the time that high streets are struggling. Few people can see through it.
All the issues are access and cheap free paring Mark. That is killing town.

@timawells that's fine until they come across a driver who's never heard of a Dutch roundabout, or who isn't paying attention.
Single track...... So when a bus or whatever breaks down during rush hour it's guaranteed gridlock.
A few bikes came down the road and cars can't pass them.

They are mad Steve. The previous ones put in the duel carriageways.
I don't trust drivers to let my cross on zebra crossings so i wont be using it
Should have just left it alone and had traffic lights on it
You mean the existing Pelican crossings. The drivers were really good considering.
I have heard from my mum who still lives in the Netherlands these roundabouts are not safe!
So even in Holland they aren't safe?
