Sheffield city centre a tour inside The Moor indoor market clean, light and smells nice.
A fraction of the size of the Castle and Sheaf markets and moved away from where our markets were for 700 years. The Sheffield characters have gone.

From Blairs the working class should be aspirational middle class to Prescott's Pathfinder scheme to your gentrification and social cleansing of your market, you must now surely be able to see the labour party is for the elites and condescending university snobs 👍
I have hated Labour ever since Blair Richard.
@timawells he destroyed the labour party Tim.
All the big players went in, Andrew, Stewart, Turners etc. All the small mother and daughter stalls had to pack up, all the one man bands couldn't come in here. Priced out. That's your labour council folks, for big businesses, sod everyone else 👍
Been told I am wrong rents are high, its the service charge. Its all part of the same costs to operate Richard.
@timawells whether it's rent or service charges Tim, whatever they choose to call it, it's a huge cost for having a stall in there. When you are selling apples and bread cakes you need turnover and to compete with your German super markets you need to be selling stuff cheap with a massive advertising campaign and you need to paying low rent for what's essentially a market stall. The council got this wrong on so many levels and should have restored the castle market 👍
And that miserable bloke trying to sing outside is dreadful, Sheffielders buskers are dreadful 👍 Take me back to Glasgow 1980 and Robert the Robot 👍
Hail the most expensive market in Europe. This is your labour, formed and elected to represent you yes you, effort to pander to the yuppies. They built this hoping to attract a better class of clientele thus socially cleansing Sheffields market of.............. Sheffielders! They were hoping to get nobs from S10 and S11 in here doing there weekly shop 😂😂😂 Instead all they got was a huge new build to pay for with zero footfall 😂
Its been cleansed Richard.
O.

Long tunnels Andy. Was it a smugglers pub?
The ship Inn closed its doors New year's night for good untill a new landlord takes over

I’m a big fan of the Moor Market. Scufflers from the bakery stall, cans and bottles from Beer Central and fish & chips, of course!
@fishandchipdiaries glad you can afford it dude, the masses can't. That's why it's a failure, me n them are in B n M bargains and Iceland 👍
I am still saving up for Tonys Richard.
Shame you didnt visit the toilets as it would have been interesting to see a comparison to crystal peaks customer toilts which are old and decrepit. Disgustingly dirty and unhygienic. As for high rents, thats not true, the rents are reasonably low. Its the service charges that are crippling , and if you have 2 units, thats 2 times the charges but you dont get double the service. Infact sheffield city council are having the pants down of crystal peaks market traders.. they are failing them on every level!!
I remember the toilets being clean in the market. If you have to pay a high service charge, its part of the rent conditions. I am not into splitting hairs.
Any chance of you doing a run round Bolsover Model Village? The council did a reno job on 100 houses and fcuked it all up in 2021. Bolsover town? Just a suggestion Tim. I'll come with if you like on a weekend. Best, Mike.
I am up for that Mike. I did film it from the top. I went to another model village that is now looking very run down.
I remember being dragged around castle market as a kid with the promise of a chip butty at the elevated cafe in the middle.
I remember being scared to death coming down those steps on the Top rank building on the way there.
I knew a young woman who had a gift shop in here but she left because of the high rent and went back to watford.
I'm lucky to work near the Moor so get in the market most days, Fish, meat, fruit n veg and world food is fantastic. So much better than supermarkets and the prices are way better too.
I never tended to go in the castle market much, so I can't easily compare them, but the Moor market does always seem busy when I go in. In fact I'd say it looks busier than Doncaster market does nowadays. Doncaster market was thriving ten years ago.
Steve are we still on for tomorrow 11am. Sent a text as I thought I may have an issue but good to go. Best Tim
@@timawells Yup, see you tomorrow.
@@stevecoatesdotnet Brill Steve. Did't know if you got my texts.
Hi tim moor market is crap no vibe in it at all old market the best mate
I knew you would say that Andy. I warned the manager in the Moor Markets.
@@timawells really lol
@@andywright3450 I didn't warn the manager about you, the general feeling Andy. 😂😂
Another interesting presentation. The last time I was in the Moor Market was 2015 for the Sheffield Blitz events, tho that didn't really show the market in it's best guise. Personally, maybe because I am old, I much preferred the Castle, Sheaf and Rag markets as they were much more vibrant and offered a greater range of products. However, I suppose any thing is better that the hideous Meadowhell.
Yes the old markets had more character.
Used to play Football for Ship inn. Would be in 80's
Not been to this , reminds me of crystal peaks .. i love the retro feeling market at that place
The market is a bit too small and the walk ways not wide enough so it gets packed easily
Its a fraction of the size of the Castle market. then we also had the Sheaf. Rents increased so fewer vendors and lower profits.
The coffee shop at the front is really good and the fish n chips place is very decent. I’ve also found the fresh meat and fish from the stalls are far better quality than you would get in the supermarkets.
I agree on the coffee shop. I've started going there in preference to Greggs now :).
@@thetony5474 it ought to be, at those prices!
As with small local shops and small businesses, use them or lose them. No point moaning after they've gone.
I agree ordinarily, but they doubled the rents on the market so the prices went up. I have found smaller businesses to be way over priced.
I find that market to be very expensive. The fruit and veg is much dearer than the supermarkets. I want to support local stall holders but they charge far too much.
That's councils for you, rents a rates too h8gh so they have to pass that on,can't work for free like.
I didn't think the quality was very good, very poor in summer.
It is expensive, it's gone from a cheap essential market to a novel food hall, I find everything expensive in it, I watched Andrew bump his prices up at Wateralls years ago and my tea cakes went from £1 to £110 to £120 to £130 for 4, I don't know what they are now from the confectionery stall in the middle, used to go every Saturday, I remember when they ran out, I went to turners........get ready, I said HOW MUCH!!! I now go to Heron at castle gate. I used to do 90% of my shopping in the castle market, the carrier bags used to cut into my hands, it got so I was going in the moor market for a tiny rucksack full of stuff, waste of time, I don't go now.
@@richardburns1287 My mother used to take us into the Sheaf for a cake on the way home for teatime and we would then jump on the 206 to Anston. Simple things Richard.
@timawells used to get proper characters and buskers, normal people in normal clothes without daft haircuts that grow out in a week, no body staring into their phones indoctrinated by the state, free thinkers, Tim 👍
Hi Tim, the Bochum Parkway is not pronounced the Botch-um Parkway, it's pronounced the Bow-kum Parkway. Bochum is a city in Germany that is 'twinned' with Sheffield. Another city twinned with Sheffield is Donetsk, which is in Ukraine. A Sheffield road called Donetsk Way was named after that twinned city also, and the Donetsk Way tram stop. This is on the Halfway tram route, the tram stop is between the 'Hackenthorpe,' and 'Moss Way,' tram stops. Just some info......
Shouldn't really be a German named road in Sheffield so I can't be bothered to pronounce it right.
The Crooked house pub in Staffordshire suffered the same fate. Now after a 'compromise' they been allowed to rebuild it within sight of the original site instead of on it. 🙄
Will it be built like for like?
@@timawells Probably not Tim, my guess is, it will have a host of rediculous safety requirement to get through. That's if it even gets built!
I used to go in here 25 years ago when Steve and Tracey ran it, Pam and Chaz had the Nags Head over the road. It was packed every day with old school Sheffielders that came from far and wide, all traditional inside. The late Jack Wasden, Sheffield joiner, that propped many a Sheffield bar up telling his stories walked from hunters bar to drink in here. If you look up on the side, you can see some damage to the tiles thats being patched up, a lorry turning out caught the side 25 years ago, steve went running out and caught him, but the damage was never repaired. Two blokes used to come in a car on a Saturday selling pork pies, cheese and packs of bacon and black pudding cheap. This was a proper Sheffield pub, not a yuppie down there then.
Damage on corner, 0:15.
I bet they are all yuppies in there now Richard, I think I will pass.
@@timawells I've looked in and seen them Tim 👍
@@richardburns1287 None of them have any common sense Richard. Its pointless engaging with them.
Sounds like a great pub Richard 🙂
Thanks for showing as I’ve never been inside the Market Hall.
Will you be visiting Richard?
@ We tend to go to Barnsley Market but if in Sheffield will give it a look. Looks clean and airy and quite a few stalls but not as big as I expected.
@@Richard-gk3kq The modern market is a fraction of the original foot print Richard.
Looks great Tim, empty and empty units. Interesting point, the very far back unit on its own Tim, they designed that for the cockle man that was in the middle of the castle market. He just semi retired and went to help sismons. As if one man with a small stall can take enough to pay those rents and service charges. Richard, one of the butchers took it on, but couldn't make it pay, not feasible.
Smith and Tissington fish not sismons 👍
It started with the Rag and Tag. Higher rents when they moved to the Sheaf Richard, It strikes again.
@@timawells all the smaller one or two owner stalls didn't go in, no characters went in. Did you know they barred the market helper, David who always wore running gear all the time and ran errands for the stall holders? He went in the moor market and pulled his pants down in front of everyone, so they barred him. I'm tempted to do exactly the same Tim.
@@richardburns1287 Had they upset him Richard?
@timawells he didn't reckon much to the moor market so told everyone what he thought Tim.
Nice to see a fairly busy market so much better than Medowhell.
I used to frequent Meadowhell.
I'm not keen on the 'recent' paint job (used to be mock Tudor), but I've always admired the exterior of The Ship. When there were lots of pubs there, it was just one of many traditional pubs, but had a rough reputation. My grandfather grew up there, and was a gentle, unassuming soul all his life, but he got a serious beating there, as a young man, in the 1920's. I don't know the circumstances, but razor gangs had a grip on the area at that time, and used to wait in the area to rob workers, who were on their way home, after being paid. The Ship must be one of the few Sheffield pubs I've never actually been inside. The river runs behind George Barnsley & Son Tim, not too far away, but still a long tunnel. That whole area has changed so much, I am always pleased to see The Ship still standing.
Thanks for your informative comment Jack.
Vibrant ❤
Compared with the rest of Sheffield Leon. But people will complain its not a patch on the old Castle and Sheaf markets. All the characters have gone.
That was very quiet. Normally a lot busier. Food hall good. Increase is rent doesn't help. But other business has come in and they've been able to make a living. So no excuses.
I'm just happy to see any kind of life, to be frank Tim.
That is about all you will see in Sheffield.
