Thanks Tim, followed and supported Wednesday all my life, so informative, my grandad took me to my first football match - he lived in Shiregreen, really I should be United as we lived In Greenhill, its funny how you stay with something all your life!

Nice work Tim, did you notice the old brick work of the Olive Grove and how its the same as the football ground at Hillsborough?
The Bramall Lane Ground was a cricket ground built on land leased from the Duke of Norfolk by a man called Michael Ellison, a cricketer who helped form Yorkshire CCC who were also formed at the Adelphi pub in Sheffield in 1861.
The last cricket match played at Bramall Lane was in 1973 v Lancashire, after Sheffield United had decided to build their new South Stand, Sheffield United were formed to use the Bramall Lane ground after Wednesday had quit to play their games at Olive Grove to generate their own revenue and keep more of their gate receipts, Sheffield United cricket club were an amalgamation of several local cricket clubs who used the Bramall Lane ground.
Looking at old maps I believe the railway line did not cut through the Olive Grove ground and the area of land used is just now part of the council depot, Wednesday just did not continue their lease there.
Probably the biggest character linking both Sheffield clubs and also the cricket was a man called Sir Charles Clegg, a Sheffield born footballer and solicitor who played for Sheffield FC and England, became Chairman of Wednesday, Chairman of the FA, president of Sheffield United Cricket Club and helped form Sheffield United FC as well as helping amalgamate the Sheffield and Hallamshire FA.

Cheers for that Mick. So much history. My dad took me to watch Curry in the 70s, we stood on the cricket part by the Kop. Not sure if the Cherry st stand was being built then. I wondered if the brick work was from the old ground.

Tim I come from a family of Wednesday fans. As I may told you two of my family have played for Wednesday Redfern Frogett who played alongside Derek Dooley and his Dad Frank played for Wednesday and Redfern cousin Jack played for Portsmouth. The Crucible opened in 1971

That’s a nice bit of football history. My dad was a big Wednesday fan. So much of a fan he wanted to call me Wednesday when I was born but my mum said nope. My mum said she didn’t want me to be bullied in school for it so they agreed to have it as my middle name and had my first name be the one I have now instead.

I like it Sally. My middle name was Angus and I paid for it at school with the jibes.

The recreation ground at Myrtle road has been built on with houses, it was where Myrtle drive and Myrtle close are now, a bit flatter land.

I joined Highfield Library when I was 3 years old. First book I got out was about hamsters.🐹 I loved visiting that library. I used it for decades. The children's library was upstairs, the adult library was on the ground floor.
It has since been turned into an islamic community centre.😢😢😢😡😡
When they threw out a load of books into a skip outside I was horrified heartbroken and outraged. We all went up there with loads of bags and rescued as many good books as we could before it rained and ruined them all. We couldn't possibly rescue them all though. My house is full of books now like a mini library.📚📚
I hate Sheffield council and everyone in there that makes such evil malignant decisions. They have no right to banish libraries in a civilised society and destroy books. I see that as an attack on the people of Sheffield. A vicious spiteful attack on evolved humanity to please and pander to third world mentalities.😡 Absolutely criminal behaviour from the council.
Our city has been sold out. Our people have been betrayed.

I love the unique memories it brings out for people. Didn't Hitler do the same with books Karen?

@timawells Sheffield council are a treacherous company. Yes, Hitler burnt books but only the decadent books that he thought were harming society. He never harmed his own people the way Sheffield council do. The German people loved Hitler.
Sheffield folk do not love the council as we know they are the enemy.😡
Hitler would never have allowed third worlders to dictate and take over Germany, he wouldn't have pandered to such creatures.
