    Roundabouts were introduced into my area of the central U.S. about ten years ago.
    I'm not a fan of them, generally speaking, as they now exist in my area, especially when they have been installed at intersections where the speeds of approaching traffic are relatively high.
    It's my experience that many drivers treat roundabouts as being merely annoying U-bends in "their" roadway, slowing for and yielding to no one.
    Signage and lane markings are woefully inadequate, and courtesy and cooperation by a significant percentage of drivers is nonexistent.
    Roundabouts might be successful in the U.S. in 100 years or so, once signage gets up to snuff and a few generations of people grow up with roundabouts, losing the bad habits of those drivers who currently believe that they alone are the owners of whatever section of road they currently occupy, plus the couple of hundred yards (or meters, whatever, they're close to being the same thing) ahead of them.
    As for now, I go significantly out of my way to avoid what I've determined are the more dangerous roundabouts in my area, and my head is on a swivel at the roundabouts that I do use.

    What if in a two lane roudabound two cars at the second exit, car 1 in first lane signals right to take third exit and car 2 in second lane signals left to take the exit?

    I know it’s not a legal requirement, but when I’m going ahead I still indicate right until I’m on the roundabout and it’s not feasible for me to take the first exit. In my opinion it makes an oncoming driver less likely to lazily assume I’m taking the 1st exit, and pull out on autopilot. do you agree with my thought process or is the signal useless for what I’m trying to accomplish?

  • @slock7803

    So what do you do if you’re on the inside of the roundabout wanting to turn off but another car coming up on your outside- just go round or speed up? Are they in the wrong?

    • @worlddriving
      @worlddriving  2 месяца назад +2

      Depends on the situation. It's quite rare that someone will be on your left as they should have exited already.
      The only time I've seen someone come up on the outside is when my pupil has been driving very slowly.

    Question, if I may.
    When at a roundabout with only two exits. If I was to take the second of the two exits, which would be the third exit on a regular roundabout, would I treat it as a second or third exit? 😅
    If that makes sense 😂

    • @andresilva5667
      @andresilva5667 2 месяца назад +3

      I misread your question but took my time to draw a squareabout. 😂
      Third exit on your example is simply going around the roundabout and and exit the same road you entered.

      I think I finally got what you mean.
      If I was told to take the third exit in a two exit roundabout, I would definitely do U turn (no. 3).
      In a test, given the stressful circumstances, I would take whichever I thought was the third exit SAFELY and then wait for examiner instructions if wrong exit was taken.
      As long as you do it safely I think you don't get "punished."
      I think this is what you meant, right?
