Bethan I don't normally go inside shopping centres, but I walked in the market to show how clean it was. I didn't see any homeless or those of drugs also two police on the beat. X
Went to Barnsley the other Saturday and was impressed with the market hall. It was packed and people queueing at the stalls. We bought quite a few things from there, people really friendly. A Council who appreciates that the market brings people into the town centre.
Barnsley looks so clean in comparison to my Hometown and a lot of the cities across the country. I'd find it a pleasure walking around Barnsley after seeing this footage.
HI Tim , quite an eye opener for me as Iv'e never really been to Barnsley only ever passed through . I must say that for a town of this size it looks really impressive such a contrast to Sheffield and Rotherham , when you look at the Victorian arcade and compare it with Chappel walk in Sheffield it makes you wonder what is going on in Sheffield and why . Totally agree about the threat of a reset just hope for the sake of the Barnsley people that it can be avoided . cheers Tin good video👍
I'm afraid to say as a South Yorkshire/North Derbyshire fella, I've never been to Barnsley, been through a few times thats it. Might have to have a day there.
Looks like it's in a time bubble, no druggies, no gangs of the peaceful ones, proper market, plenty of independent shops clean, this looks to be a well run place, it's made my m8nd up to visit. Get me a proper Barnsley chop at same time.
Barnsley is looking good. Can't believe how many of the pubs still have the old names from 15 years ago. And still open. No7, Chambers, white bear, chennels, funny gals.
@timawells The old technical college next to the town hall became part of Huddersfield University about 15/20 years ago and put the sign up. I know that they brought some out skirt college properties like the Baraugh Green music and music technology into town because they were a ball ache to get to.
barnsley in the 80s and 90s has always had a busy market, since the new market has been built lots of traders have been pushed out with extortional rent prices, barnslley didnt use to look very pretty but the place worked and was alot busier than today.
I was last over in Sheffield in 2020. I went over there for a change of scenery after we'd come out of lockdown. I wouldn't be in too much of a rush to go back there. I also lived over there in 2012. I liked it but it's not one of the best places I've lived in.
Barnsley town centre is in better shape than neighbouring Wakefield town centre which is now a disgrace…And yet years ago people in Wakey used to slag off Barnsley all the time. Just shows how quickly things can change.
Andy in theory and size, but I will list some positives to Barnsley/ 1) Car friendly. 2) No cycle lanes. 3) Clean. 4) Saw two police patrolling. 5) Loads of shops in the large shopping centre I didn't walk through. 6) Decent indoor and outdoor market. 7) Decent transport interchange. 8) No homeless or those on drugs. 9) Indigenous local population. Best Tim
@@andywright3450 I wouldn't worry Andy. Let it go over your head. I love Sheffield and am ashamed of what the council has done. I will do Beauchief Abbey for you perhaps this weekend.
I work at Barnsley hospital , great people ❤❤ so clean compared to the dump that is now Sheffield . Want to move there , defo retiring there .

@ it’s like going back thirty years ❣️

Barnsley must still be old fashioned Labour Richard. Flower bed.

Hi Vanessa where is your home town?
Damn if I had known you were in Barnsley you could have got me some goose eggs :)
I managed to get some golden eggs going cheep Tim.

Lets hope the Barnsley folk are awake to the agenda Jon. I have given them due warning.
Went to Barnsley about 18 months ago and thought it was actually ok
I really liked the retro computer games arcade
So barnsley haven't destroyed their town centre yet like Rotherham have, looks quite nice tbh
Yes Glyn, I walked a bit further outside the town centre, concerned about the expansion of Barnsley College. No cycle lanes what so ever.
@@CraigT9864 There are an awful lot of massive Barnsley College buildings Craig. If Barnsley doesn't fall to the agenda I will be shocked.

Its well worth a visit and their interchange is right next to the town centre. I was there most weekends in the early 90s.

@@edmundblackaddercoc8522 Perhaps its because Barnsley folk haven't been replaced.

Nothing like the size of Sheffield, but doing the best they can with what they have got.
You've missed the market kitchen street food and traditional restaurants upper floor market and it has a bar too .
I do my best.
There's always been a lot of college buildings in Tarn since I moved here 35 years ago
It looks like they are really expanding like Sheffield. It now says University.

@@laurabambam5342 I noticed something on Barnsley College saying University. Same thing happened at Rotherham.
Email Barnsley council and give the good feedback

Morning Lee my comparison is against todays towns. Give me the old towns of the 1980s.
There's more retail in Barnsley town centre than there is in Sheffield City centre

@vanessahenderson1850 it's a dead dump of a center
It's been redesigned as a residential housing estate
There is in the indoor shopping complex I didn't walk through.
Sheffield has been destroyed since 1994.
Love Barnsley. So much better than Sheffield.
The people haven't been erased as happened in Sheffield Joanne. Its like turning the clock back.
Barnsley town centre is in better shape than neighbouring Wakefield town centre which is now a disgrace…And yet years ago people in Wakey used to slag off Barnsley all the time. Just shows how quickly things can change.
Only remember going to Wakefield once as a kid.
@ It’s so run down now.
Born there, couldn't wait to leave. Total sbit hole.
I was born in Bedford. Now that's a shithole
Was born in Bedford. Trust me, that place is even worse
You obviously haven't been for a long time.
Grass isn't always greener.
Ah sorry too hear that hope yu living in a beautiful heaven of a place let me know where cos every place same now
free parking at morrisons, with homeless to boot
I didn't see any homeless in Barnsley Lee, come to Rotherham.
I hope they can keep it this way, and don't take on Rayners nationwide enrichment plan. That would be a crying shame
My concern is mission creep in the back ground.
What are yu fecking talking about if yu gona vlog make sense
Hi tim good video barnsley isnt as good as Sheffield mate
Sheffield's a dump.
