I've got an unpopular opinion but it's from experience. (40+ age) The music was better at this time because our society wasn't as dumbed down yet, so they needed the music to be good to turn us into over emotional failures. Hear me out, almost every single song our of the grunge scene was pro drug use, pro suicide, and pro depression. You could hear the pain in the music, and after listening to thousands of hours of depression, it does change you as a person. It makes you want to try drugs, cut yourself, become content with being depressed since your favorite Rockstar was also a depressed, junky mess. So while the music is incredible, I wish I never heard it. We should have music that encourages growth and positivity, there isn't enough of it.
I probably watched half the reactions on this song on youtube and I'm always so bummed when they don't point out Daron's singing at any point...every chorus he sounds more heavenly and especially in the last chorus where he sounds absolutely angelic. I like Daron's parts more than Serj's which is why it's so sad that barely anyone ever notices him, let alone praises his voice. I can't stress how happy this made me! Right as he notices Daron in the first chorus he instantly voices out that his vocals sound really good...and then in the 2nd chorus stresses it again, like clarifying "I mean HIM (not the other guy)...HE has really good vocals"...then the chilled nods towards the camera in the last chorus and clipping it off with a "Yooo!!!". Absolutely priceless reaction to the last chorus in general, but for me it really put the cherry on top that Daron *completely* stole the show for him...didn't even mention Serj at one point I think. I didn't scream "YESSSS! YYYYEEEESSSSS! FINALLY!" at my screen because I have thin walls and neighbors...but in my heart I did
I remember my son yelling this song out with his younger sister in our living room and both of them slam dancing all over the place and scaring the dog ha! RIP my crazy wonderful son Daniel, when he first introduced me to SOAD I actually didn’t like them all that much but they grew on me; and now any time I hear their songs from back in the day I think of my son and feel glad we shared a love of all kinds of music. We had some epic marathon late night music listening sessions the last year of his life when his heart got so bad, he loved The Killers and Bad Religion and Opeth among many many others and I got him loving The Eagles and Neil Young and Lynryd Skynryd etc.
System of a Down's "Spiders" will blow your hair back. Great melodies, spooky/eerie feel to it, very original yet not too odd, its one of the perfect examples of the many things they can do. "Sugar" introduced them to the masses, but "Spiders" propelled them. One more song to give a listen is "Aerials"
Serj and Daron’s harmonies are absolutely incredible. Listen to a song of theirs called ‘Holy Mountains’. The harmonies will blow you away. Also, if you want to hear Daron sing on his own, listen to a song called ‘Lonely Day’. Daron also has his own band called Scars on Broadway in which he is the main vocalist. Listen to a song of theirs called ‘They Say’. SOAD are also one of the greatest live bands I’ve ever seen.
This album came out 1 week before 9/11…. Dude I was in like 7th grade skateboarding in my garage blasting this CD. So unsure of the world around me. So grateful for those core memories 💯
Yes! I was in 10th grade and this album was a staple. I forget how uncertain everything felt at that time. We were all scared of future terror attacks, a potential war and military draft, and since it was only 2 years after Columbine, we were scared of school shootings. This album defined that year for me in terms of music and I get transported back every time I hear this song, Toxicity, Aerials, etc.
That was the best reaction ever brother. This is a really beautiful song…the melody and the harmonizing is so pretty. Your reaction was pretty much the exact same as mine when I first heard this song. I was in the military when this came out so it brings me back to that time.
My daughter listened to this every day before she got on the bus for High School back when it was released. That's how an old lady like me began to love them!
I'm not even a SOAD fan, but Serj is such a stand up dude, and this song is undeniably haunting. I revisit it as much as I do anything else. It's just straight up f*cking moving.
The song is more than cold, that shit has been dipped in liquid Nitrogen. Definitely do "Aerials" by SOAD. Early 2000s was a great time for music. (Coming from a 49 year old. Lol.) Keep doing what you're doing man. Music has enriched my life, to an extent I can't express with words. You'll discover a LOT of great material from many decades, and many genres.
I've worked in the industry for over 35 years and grew up listening to all kinda Rock and roll in the 70'& 80' and the 90's I still say, hands down the 90's music and concerts was best times in my life
The original name of the song was called Suicide but the record company put pressure on the band to changed the name. They sardonically changed it to Chop Suey as a sort of passive-aggressive protestation; a way of disguising what the record company made them do. Hence, Chop Suicide (Suey). By the way, the lead singer's name is Serge Tanken and they are an Armenian band.
One of my favorite hobbies after work now with these music reaction channels is finding out when they first discover a band and then listening to their reactions in order. Much love, brother. A lot of mid-tier reaction channels out there, but I really enjoy this one.
Welcome to the band that has hypnotized me for 20 years saw them twice. Their whole catalog is a masterpiece. Try Aerials, psycho,science,spiders,ATWA....just as an appetizer....god bless you ❤
That slack jawed look at the end of the song. I think most of us were like that the first time we heard this song. One of my favorite songs of all time. Completeley real reaction - it was the same one I had when this song was new. I was wondering where the Chop Suey video was. You hadn't done one yet! 😅
Broo i subbed after u reacted to DOWN IN A HOLE, i saw u felt the emotion i felt when that song became one of my most loved and most fave song.. and U reacting to Chop suey, thats just amazing.. after AIC i love SOAD. They make such great lyrically amazing music man..!
This band and album was my first true favorite band. SOAD opened my eyes to music. I still remember buying their first album. I was with my mom driving home from the store putting the CD in my Sony Psych and listening to it completely blind for the first time and listening over and over and over again. I had never been able to listen to every single song a band had released before. But SOAD had released two albums o could listen to from beginning to end with no skipping. I wish I could go back and listen to theses guys for the first time again.
Hahaaaaaa... I love watching your SOAD journey. REWIND AS MUCH AS YOU NEED TO! 😅 Aerials, Question!, Hypnotize, Sugar, Lonely Day, Spiders. I think I've typed this to you a few times. Apologies. 🤪
Random fact: Singer Serj had a creative block while finding the right lyrics for this. So when he was in the studio with producer Rick Rubin, he told serj to pick a random book from the shelf, open a random page and take those lines as an inspiration. 6:01 „ Father, into your hands i commend my spirit father into your hands why are you forsaken me? in your eyes forsaken me in your thoughts forsaken me in your heart forsaken me“ obviously stayed and became a significant passage in this masterpiece. And as I am commenting I’d like to say that I really love your videos! As for many of your viewers it‘s a wonderful way to re-enjoy so many sick songs/bands and albums! Keep it up!
I've been going to rock concerts since 1987. I have seen some historic bands, and experienced some amazing moments, but, BUT, this moment in the SOAD concerts when you hear thousands of people singing (more like screaming) that prayer at this end of this song is chilling...
I prefer the lead singers voice, but yeah, the guitarist adds some great harmonies. Therefore I would recommend System of a down - Aerials next. Wonderful vocals from both.
Hi Mollyboy. I'm sorry for my english. I was just a kid when I started listen to all the awesome music that you're discovering now. Now I'm 35 and still addicted to that. The whole system of the down album is fire! I was 15 years old when this came out, me and my whole crew of friends in school we seriously went hard for this band! You should have seen us we would go so hard playing this and just go wild head banging screaming I'm telling you right now is the best release as a teenager for me and my friends and going through life situations as teenagers super blessed to be able to have system of the down to express our feelings as teenagers

Suicidal Tendencies - How Will I Laugh Tomorrow, You Can’t Bring Me Down, Institutionalized. Rocky George is one of the most underrated guitarist ever.

I wore this song out when this album came out😂 this WHOLE ALBUM IS AMAZING!!!!❤ Molly boy dude you gotta react to this whole album, front to back, the songs all go in different directions and it's a crazy ride
Just came across your channel today. You seem genuine and know about music, and yep, that's appreciated. Enjoy the journey.
If you want to hear another very creative, unique and more recent artist, I highly recommend Kim Dracula. He's also on the more crazy and experimental side of things, playing around with different styles. I would recommend Kim Dracula - Superhero for the start.
Great content. Only just discovered this channel. I would like to see you react to the System of a down songs that the lead singer did with the New Zealand symphony orchestra. He did the whole album this song was on with them. Absolutely out of this world.
I was recovering from serious surgery and was on a lot of pain meds as well as having just lost my mom. My sons had this song playing. When the word Die came out I sat bolt upright and thought I was gonna have a heart attack. When I shared this with my sons they couldn't stop laughing. No sympathy at all. But I still love this song
The most amazing thing about how System of a Down composes their music, is their ability to convey the chaos of the human mind so accurately. You can feel the emotion in their music. He always discusses pretty difficult topics, this one being suicide. Chop Suey is their way of saying the word because the label wouldn't allow the word "Suicide" as a song name. Love the reactions!
This is basically what I live for...Molly hearing our early 2000s gods
It’s so fun, innit? ❤
Everyday after work I’m like, what am I jamming to tonight? Lol
1991 to 1996 was the golden era of the rock band.

I second this recommendation!
I third it
Oh god yes
I listen to SOAD and that’s not a banger, and I know bangers. Whiniest song on that album
@@cartergubler1327 I’d like him to hear Sugar or Suite Pee. Their cover of Metro is cool.

Two great choices for reactions today, both great songs, hope you truly appreciate and enjoy them both
