- Turtle Power in the 80s and 90s was no joke. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles ruled the airwaves, the arcades, and the consoles, and while much about them has changed, they're still shockingly prevalent in gaming. So, where did this all start and how did they get so big? The answer isn't "The Ooze," but it would explain the absolute insane catalogue of almost every TMNT games we unearthed. Here's but a small list of the games we DO cover in this video:
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1989)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2: The Arcade Game
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 3: Manhattan Project

TMNT
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Smash-Up
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutants in Manhattan
And we... think that's it? Yeah. It's a lot of games. Listen to us talk about them here!

What is the best Turtles game, movie, or show?
TMNT II Secret of the Ooze, no movie or show has come close (except maybe the first one)
Nothing will beat the original live action TMNT movies.
It could be nostalgia, but I have to say it was the TMNT arcade game. Many quarters were spent playing it on Saturdays and during summer vacation.
Turtles in Time no doubt
Turtles in Time. It isn't a fair competition.
Yoo jake is freaking hilarious 😂 whatever he’s featured in has me rolling! Great acting! And side by side with the completionist is just platinum gold 💯🙌🏾
Jake is really great! I like all the cast members but he's become one of my favs. His videos with Black Hokage though are so funny
Jake unhinged was so good
Shut up bot
Agreed. Jake is a great personality. Would love to see more of him. And speaking of seeing more of, Adam Sessler needs a raise because he needs to be in twice as much contenr that we've been seeing him in lately.
A successful channel NEEDS great personalities.
Jake, Adam, and Drunk Link needs more work! 😁
Cringe😊😊
WHOOOOOOOA now. This vid and the reviews therein had my respect right up 'til they dissed the 2003 animated series, one of the best, beloved incarnations of the franchise.
The Manhutten Project is my favorite. It's very difficult and fun to play on NES. I remember playing it multiple times on my NES just to get rid of Shredder.
But Turtles In Time will always be legendary. It sets the bar so high for beat em up games
He just said the 2003 series was not great…I know it’s subjective, but that one is often regarded as the peak of the series 😅
This, I was about to comment this.
Came here for this comment. But jirhard is mid 30s so it’s possible he just never watched it 😅
@@SloanJordan I'm 42, and have watched all 4 series.
well I did like the 2003 series sort of but it seemed like it was long and i mean long. The funny part was Baxter would always die and comeback to life lol
@@ec5018 He was punished so much it was body horror by the end.
"THAT'S INSANE TO ME, JIRARD!" 😂🤣 10:40
New catchphrase. Print the shirt.
Okay, let’s get something straight here.
TMNT Out of the Shadows The Game has nothing to do with the movie released in 2016. The Game’s story derived from the current 2012 show on Nickelodeon and the only thing the two have in common are that they share the same subtitle, Out of the Shadows. Why they decided to use the game title as the movie sequel title is beyond me.
they were hoping the cross marketing would work. IE the hype from people seeing the movie would get people to get the game
@@ashnodmtg But the game was 3+ years old when the movie released and I'm pretty sure it was de-listed from digital storefronts by then.
It would be like if Illumination called the upcoming Mario movie "Super Mario 3D All-Stars."
Yeah they got some facts wrong. A rubbish retrospective really.
@@ashnodmtg The problem with that is the movie came out 3 years after...
Getting really tired of people who clearly never played OotS talking about how terrible it is. The game definitely had some technical issues but the actual game mechanics were quite good. It has the best characterization of the turtles of any of the games and the deepest combat by far, with fantastic team attacks. It also has “Turtle Power” by Partners in Kryme from the first movie’s OST, which is just awesome.
Im LOVING these deep dives into the history of various series'. Keep up the awesome work!
"Yep. That was definitely piss."🤣
How is TMNT Out of The Shadows from 2013 a tie in to the movie from 2017?
It’s weird that they share the same name but I don’t think they’re connected
Also you guys forgot the TMNT 3DS Diablo clone based on the 2014 movie that’s actually not horrendous despite showing it’s box early in the video.
Shame you ignored the non-Game Boy portable TMNT games. The three games based on the 2003 show by Konami (two for the GBA, one for the DS) were legit pretty good. Maybe not quite Turtles in Time, but actually good.
The GBA game based on the 2007 Imagi movie by Ubisoft was an awesome clone of the Konami arcade games, with many of those programmers eventually making Shredder's Revenge.
The 3DS version of Danger of the Ooze, while definitely rushed, does have a little of that Wayforward magic in it.
X-play is amazing
Anything G4 related is amazing.
For the culture brethren lol
This was great, very well made... Perfect blend of comedy and gaming content. My fav skit so far since you guys been back
Hey, the 2003 series was pretty good. I’m curious as to why this guy didn’t like it. Unless all he saw was the future season the flash forward season which I think was season 6
The action was awesome
“..and there’s another F#%KING onion in the middle!” 🤣😂
I would like to praise you guys for showing the archival X-Play review footage.
This is a great piece of work XPlay. Enjoyed every minute. Well done.
Jake, that cigarette flick was phenomenal. I was legit surprised how cool that looked and how well you played it off. Love this over tired Jake character, like an old "seen too much" detective.
Did he really say that the 2003 Ninja Turtles Animated Series wasn't great? I disagree whole heartedly.
Love these guys. The best episodes include them.
Come on, you just called the 2003 series not great?! It's widely considered the best of all the series by true fans! It was fantastic. The games, fair play, they were bland, but the show 11/10.
Yeah. I stopped the video after hearing that sacrilege.
Great video! Loved the turtles games growing up especially Turtles in Time. So happy for Gerard the completionist having joined the show! Great format and presentation and I would expect nothing less from G4 and x play!
Jake has brought me here. 😂 you all are great! Thank you for all you do.
It’s My Birthday Today 🎈 I’ve Been A Xplay Fan For A Long Time Since I Was A Kid, I Enjoyed Watching You All And Best Moments, This Is To Everybody of G4TV This To You All. Thanks Everybody.
One of Jake's and Jirards best vids to date!!! Keep up the great work and stay safe everyone.
Dude this was such a fantastic video. I’ve been a fan of the completionist for awhile because he’s a wholesome game boi, but wow, Jake is freaking hilarious and his comedic acting is insanely top tier. Well done, gentlemen. Well done.
Fantastic deep dive...need more!
The funniest video I have seen on Xplay! Great job!
Amazing stuff. I have been sleeping on xplay. I'll be going back and watching the older videos
This video was so good guys. The writing / delivery for this had me legit laughing out loud. ❤
*looks around* So we're not gonna applaud the subtle, yet RIDICULOUS Kevin Spacey joke? LOL
love this!! THANKS G4!
"This one makes the previous game look like Portal 2" hahaha
At least our man Jake is still with us. Funny dude
How come they never talk about the ninja turtle game for the PlayStation which was really one of the most difficult games and just set up was pretty nice
Good to see you guys here!
really love these two together
I’m watching this episode on cable at the moment and it’s just replaying the first several minutes, cutting to ads and then coming back to first several mins till the half hour was up then switched to next program. Like I was literally tripping as if was watching “Off Air” for the first time by accident at 4am back in 2010.
FINALLY, SOMEONE TALKS ABOUT THE MANHATTAN PROJECT!
I grew up with this game and i still have my copy.
Yooo good vid love it!
I LOVED the 2003 series and games! I was a kid and TMNT coming back was major hype for me 🤙🏼
Also! Shredders revenge was fantastic!
The moment someone starts trashing the 2003 series I know they're blinded by 80s nostalgia
Oh hey, also, "Out Of The Shadows" had nothing to do with the movie of the same name; in fact, it came out years BEFORE the movie.
I love Ninja Turtles and Jirard, so here's my comment and like button press.
I love these types of videos where they go through the whole gaming history of a franchise. I hope the keep them coming.
The TMNT nerd in me loved this but also, why so many games LMAO p.s. you two make a perfect duo.. in my opinion.
"FOR MONEY JIRARD!" killed me
Glad to see you guys back!! Proud G4 supporter,!!
I'd like to quickly point out that out of the shadows was not a movie tie in game at all it came out in 2013 the movie wasn't out until 2016
This video is pure Platinum. Thanks to everyone involved for all the work!
I really enjoyed this. THIS is the kind of G4 content we like
At least you didn't try and beat every single MegaMan game.
Now this is content. Keep it up.
The konami era gba games are a pretty continuation of the 2d beat em up formula of the arcade/nes games.
This was an amazing video and downright hilarious, but the 2003 animated series was amazing 😠.
Jake, this was top notch comedy. Your delivery and faces were fantastic.
This is amazing!!!!
Great video! 😂
Jake keep on rolling you wonderful crazy man.
Such a good video 👍👍👍
That’s a great review
Great video
Great documentary
You guys didn't talk about the 2018 Turtles cabinet that is at Dave and Busters
Turtles in Time is my favorite, but I have a soft spot for the the couple of GameCube early 2000s ones.
Jake and Jirard are a great team. Jake's lines were hilarious.
No Turtles In Time Re-Shelled
TURTLE POWER
First turtles movie and turtles in time with shredders revenge as a close second
Jake may be my new spirit animal. Good stuff, keep it up Buttercup.
At the risk of sounding like a shill, I was (only a little bit) disappointed to not see more love for the cowabunga collection. (But maybe they cover it in another video, I haven't looked.) I picked it up because those games were really big for me as a kid, and the collection is fantastic. Great emulation, optional scanline filters, a _rewind_ button (which means I might finally beat the original NES game 😲?), and a lot of neat extras packed in for nostalgia. The ability to play through the original arcade games while not being limited to how many quarters I'm holding is a real plus. Digital eclipse poured a lot of effort into this one and it shows.
Hearing that Manhattan Project opening music was crazy nostalgic.
I signed off G4 for good and then I saw this and am a major Jake fan. Bravo guys.
This was great Love when its jake and Jirard
The miss congeniality 2 of video games 💀
Idk what it is about Noir spoofs but I love them
This video is a banger! You guys did real good !!
Great Stuff, as always!
Being a TMNT gamer and subsequently alcoholic. You gotta clearly label your bottles. After a few bottles, everything tastes "smooth", Jirard!
Wow Jake is really a talented actor, this is how the reviewers should do their videos. 🎉 one of the most entertaining review ever
What is Jirad smoking? The 2003 TMNT series was AWESOME. Hell, that's the show that's arguably the best of the bunch. I adore the original '88 series but if you honestly think that's the best then you haven't seen any other series.
How I can acces the train stage of second 11 in tournament fighters snes? Or was renove in the cawabunga collecion?
Best review on g4 in a while you guy we’re great (as a father I would like to see the language cleaned up so my kids could Watch it with me)
Jake killed it yall
Hey! I actually have that Kinect Turtles game on my 360 still! It’s basically a crappier Fruit Ninja sort of game. Kind of. I don’t know if I still have a Kinect to play it anymore.
Jake is amazing. Had me cracking up every time he was on screen. Love when he's in videos.
the end lol
Happy to see pinball get some love with the mention of the Data East TMNT pinball table; sad to see the newer and superior Stern TMNT pinball table (2020) not get mentioned... =(
All these TMNT all represent phases of my life thus far from my childhood my teen years all the way up to adulthood
Rad job guys. Preserving history one game at a time
Thank you for this! You guys rock!
I would like to see a TMNT where they are mutated into horrible living piles of human and turtle parts. The story then follows their tragic paths through various freak shows, experimental laboratories, and secret government facilities. They don't like pizza. "Pizza" best describes the sound that comes from their malformed turtle beaks as they cry out for the release of death.
Dude, the 2003 series was the best of all the reboots. If you hated it that much, you have issues.
“I don’t even smoke and you shouldn’t either” 😂 comedy gold there
I’d love it if the somehow make a definitive version of the Manhattan Project
TMNT Turtles in TIME! Also Jake is funny
Best. video. yet.
Damn you really just dissed the best and most comic accurate series like that, huh
could this be the beginning of Xplay the chonk boi era? lesss gooooo
Wait... the 2003 series was great. Who wrote this?
