They gave "Tom & Jerry: War of the Whiskers" a "T-rated" because "E-10" didn't exist until 2005 and they couldn't label it with a "E" rating so they gave the "T" rating
In House Trap was an absolute childhood staple, especially due to the fact that it has a 2-player split-screen versus mode. Used it several times to resolve household disputes with my older brother, good times.
The reason Tom and Jerry talk in the movie was because the studio felt a movie with nothing but slapstick and minimal dialogue wouldn't work, and that hearing the duo actually speak would get people interested. The movie actually began development in the 70's, but it kept running into script problems over not being long enough, not having much of a plot, trouble getting substantial character development, etc... At one point MGM literally tried to make a live action Tom and Jerry movie starring Chevy Chase and Dustin Hoffman as the duo with a script by Bonnie and Clyde/Superman 1-3 writer David Newman.
Interesting! It does highlight how difficult it is to translate Tom and Jerry into a big Hollywood movie. Makes more sense to do TV movies or straight-to-video style films if they really felt the need to go feature-length.
@@ProjectPlayGaming Yeah, and even then at first they had trouble making them long enough, as The Magic Ring, the first to the direct to video movies, was just barely an hour long. Even the shortest of the direct to video Scooby movies was longer than that.
I like that they talked. It made me excited to see the movie. I loved that they had to work together in the movie, it's an idea I had wanted to see more ever since I first saw the cartoon. The plot we had though was....meh. I liked it as a kid but looking back it had some interesting and good ideas and a plot way the hell out of left field.
Really great video. Probably took a ton of work too so, hope it does well. The fact it showed up on my homepage is a good sign RUclips is picking it up though.
I used to watch the show as a kid but never in my life had I played any of its games. Turns out I wasn't missing out that much, huh? 🤣 Great video BTW!
30:11 We had Super Smash Bros., sure, BUT that game was still on a 2D plane, no matter how badly the 3D models would like you to think otherwise. As for proper 3D fighting games on the N64, what was Fists of Furry's competition? Dual Heroes? Deadly Arts? War Gods? Beast Wars: Transmetals?
I clicked on this video for Tom & Jerry Housetrap. My sister and I played this game all the time as kids and getting through each level figuring out what new traps and items were available was a ton of fun. I'll always enjoy that game.
@@ProjectPlayGaming Definitely! Tom & Jerry has always been one of my favorite shows too. The old bowling alley episode and pool hall episode, "Mice Follies" where they freeze the house... Great video!
The Master System/Game Gear version is interesting, as buried in the code is a completely different title screen for the game without "The Movie" moniker, so either Sega were developing the game before they knew about the movie, or it's a back up incase they lost the license. But it's all on TCRF, fascinating site to find lost/hidden stuff in old games.
Tom & Jerry Tales was one of the first games I ever had for the GBA as a kid so I'm fairly nostalgia biased for it, though even my younger self wouldn't defend it as a "good" game. I liked it for what it was but the platforming drove me crazy and those 2D levels were the bane of my existence as a child. I still have so many memories of collecting all the cheese in a level, being so close to an exit, then just falling in water... Other than that the mini games weren't half bad in my opinion. It got pretty repetitive but overall an okay game for me.
Well, Metal Gear was for the MSX2 to be fair, so expecting something similar from an MSX1 game is kinda unreasonable when it's visual specs are closer to a beefed up Spectrum or the SG1000.
I used to play House Trap back then and i thought it was a great game. Controls are fine, some levels can be challenging and i love the fact that some rooms will be opened in some levels. I dont understand why people hate it. Your rival is Tom for the most level but the last level is where you fight the robot cat. BTW. You have to use the analog stick and push it gently to make Jerry walk slowly to pick up banana peel, wet water. You can use it to walk by some traps like the tv, fridge and vacuum etc.
"Achtually" the robot cat isn't featured in the last level. But it's kinda a late level. The last level is where Tom searches for gifts to give to a female cat, while Jerry searches for it too to trash away.
PC version of 'Fists of Furry' had music. The music of this game has been burned to the same disk in the "Audio CD" format, meaning you could put this CD to your regular Music CD player and it would play all the music from the game. I had the original copy of this game when I was a kid. The game required the CD to be in the drive in order to be launched. So if everything is done the way it's supposed to be - the music is there
God, Tom and Jerry is the greatest cartoon ever. Some of these games are way better than I thought they would be. Glad this video exists to help fuel my Tom and Jerry addiction.
Honestly, the weird thing about Tom & Jerry games is that almost all of them were essentially my introduction to some retro consoles, and retro gaming as a whole. Tom and Jerry the Movie was my first exposure to the Master System, Tom and Jerry on SNES was my first exposure to the console outside of the Virtual Console series, and both Mouse Trap and Mouse Hunt were my gateway games into becoming obsessed with classic gaming, as from that point, I'd endlessly search around Game Boy and Playstation libraries until it eventually came to the Amiga, Genesis, etc. RUclips back in the day just had this ability to suck you into a recommended click void that you didn't want to escape, and that's what Tom and Jerry did for me, but I'd be here all day if I told more of my stories with these games.
I remember playing House Trap as a kid with my neighbor and we thought Tom's screams were the funniest thing ever. I was also very scared of the robot cat on one of the later levels and had to ask my dad to complete it.
1:07:54 I remember playing Tom's trap-o-matic once or twice as a kid! You were basically tom making rube golburg style traps in order to catch jerry. If a definitive tom and jerry game were to be made it would probably be based on that I think. Shame these games don't really get made anymore. Great video!! Thank you for documenting all these
I remember playing that game too but I had no idea how to catch Jerry at the time and I always sucked at it. I have a feeling I'd get a kick out of it if Flash was still around
@@ProjectPlayGaming I'm currently speed running your channel lol. I'm also working on a video of all handheld Mario games and all Illusion (Mickey) games
The Master System Tom and Jerry was my first video game ever. I have many happy memories of playing it with my father and my sister, trying to figure out the optimal routes to get to Jerry as fast as possible! Though I never played any other Tom and Jerry game since, it seems from your reviews that I didn't miss much. Great video!
At my house we played CAT-astrophe so much and never really understood what we were trying to accomplish other than bugging the heck out of Tom. And that was enough for us!
House Trap on the PS1 unlocked a real nostalgic treasure chest there. One note about the "pointless distractions" like the TV and radio - they're actually traps you and Tom can set to deliberately stall your opponent. You can also sneak by them if you know they're set to avoid triggering them.
you forgot the tom and jerry's trap-o-matic where you will build a contraption to cut the cage and get jerry. definitely completed my childhood lmao love the video I am shocked that this cartoon went all way back to the commodore days.
Tom & Jerry Chase is pretty much DBD with T&J characters, the mice must find at least 5 cheeses and shove them into mouse holes around the map, shoving the cheese into the hole requires some time and can be reduced by having multiple mice shoving the same cheese together (again, much like DBD). The cat's job is exactly like Killers from DBD, hit the mouse at least twice, bring them to the nearest Rocket-shaped firework, and tie the mouse to it. Every character has different active abilities, including their variants, for example, Detective Jerry doesn't have the same ability as regular Jerry, En-Garde Tom doesn't have the same ability as regular Tom, and so on. The maps contain various stuff and furniture that both factions can interact with, either as a trap to the opposing faction or as mobility. I played it a few years ago, the game is honestly pretty good, love the aesthetic of the game and how smooth every character's movement is, but as many people probably know, having Netease as the publisher isn't always the best idea, I mean I live in Asia and yet I keep having my PING gone up to the roof, even until now the game still has terrible PING, I know this because I tried it once more 2 months ago only to deleted it again afterward, the game is also slightly P2W which isn't surprising. EDIT: forget to add what happened after all 5 cheeses have been shoved lol, so this is where the game gets really intense, a random wall on the map will have a crack on it, all the mice must work together to break open the crack and escape through it by hitting the crack on the wall with stuffs like dinnerware, box of fruits, even using their abilities until the crack's HP reaches 0 and a big hole will appear on its location. The cat, again, must prevent this to happen. Note that only 1 crack will appear on every match so everyone will basically goes to the same spot.
@31:00 "3d fighting game" is far from an overspecific category - it's just one of the two basic approaches to the genre a game can take, sort of like RPGs either being turn based or not as a core design decision. Or, hell, like 2D vs 3D Mario games, or Zelda games! Those are much smaller categories but still clearly defined ones with a purpose
I remember that NES game (Tom & Jerry (& Tuffy)), it was so fun back in the day, never managed to play through to the end, was always too hard, gotta try again one day, see how well I do when looking at it with an adult gaming experienced hand
Thanks so much for putting this together! Love the classic shorts and played a ton of the NES game. Even suffered through the Sega Genesis game out of franchise loyalty!
Just an aside - the MSX didn't have Metal Gear on it; that was the MSX2 which was vastly upgraded. The base MSX was much closer in power to a Colecovision, and since the system shared the Zilog Z80 of the Spectrum, lots of quick and dirty Spectrum ports were released for it.
34:00 The PC Version of Fists of Furry does have a Soundtrack, IMO a solid one too, it´s just as was common at the time the Soundtrack was played as regular CD Music during gameplay, to hear the Music you need to have the Disc in the drive while playing the game.
to be honest, the best one on home consoles was war of the whiskers, it has 4 player coop and just feels like a party fighting game youd find on xbox arcade, but it has some content and i still play it around in an emulator sad part is that the company who made these games got bankrupt, house trap and war of the whiskers felt like real tom and jerry games, chaotic and fun
Just got this recommended, wow man amazing channel. And you have literally answered every single comment, wow man very impressed. Love the channel. Keep up the great work. I would love to see your take on the metal gear games, maybe in time for the hd release in October?
I remember owning Tom & Jerry: The Magic Ring and Infurnal Escape on GBA as a kid. Seeing that gameplay so many years later, I'm surprised I had the patience to actually finish that game twice with both characters. Also, I haven't seen the movie in a long time, but I believe this game definitely deviates quite a lot from the movie. As for Infurnal Escape, I don't remember making much progress. Only thing I remember is that it has a unique sequence to where if you lose all your lives, Tom will be sent to a level sent to hell, where he'll have to run around with a 2-minute time limit to collect 3 of his lost souls in order to get back to the level he died at. Run out of time with 2 souls or less, you'll have to do the hell level again. Die once again, the game is over.
My sister and I LOVED Frantic Antics on Megadrive (we had the movie on VHS). The 2 player mode was co-op! Also, the roll attack does still exist in that game, however it's best to use your projectiles up first as usually the roll attack results in you still taking some damage.
I still have fond memories of playing both Tom & Jerry games: fists of furry and war of the whiskers. The former might look primitive yes but still I had great time playing it (that was one of my early PC games I got when I was a kid) while the latter improved on basically everything (enviorment , combat, animation and rage meter). Even in my mid-20’s for once in a while I’m booting up these games and memories of hours spent on unlocking everything in these titles will never go away.😊
I had the PC CAT-astrophe game, and there much more things that you could do. I don't remember the controls, but you could throw eggs as well. You can also pick dynamites from the lower right, fight with fencing, activate that trap with the tomato inside Jerry's house to hit Tom in the face, and more.
Remember House Trap being a staple among us kids. Loved that the game had a sense of progression of opening new rooms, even if they were mostly cosmetic. There were some references to older episodes aswell, where one involves you to fight against a robot replacment of Tom.
The goal of Hunting High And Low is to beat all the levels AND collect all the cheese. If you didn't get all the cheese after beating the final level you get sent back to the start to play through the levels again to collect the ones you missed, which is why you suddenly won the game from picking up a random cheese somewhere - that was the last one you were missing.
@@ProjectPlayGaming Actually after looking for a emulated copy to replay the game, I found the actual answer - the most commonly available version on the internet is a cracked and trained version that enables a bunch of cheats by default (you can turn them off) - in addition to freezing the timer and making Tom unable to hurt you, it also reduces the number of cheese you have to collect from all 50 to just 10. This is the one you were playing in the video - it's why you randomly won so fast and why the difficulty was so nonexistent. The actual, untrained version is HARD. But yeah, the goal is to get every cheese in the game, and if you miss one you do have to go back for it (you don't get sent back to the start, I think that might've been in the sequel). The time limit is steep though, so it's more of a theoretical thing - if you reach the final level and missed a cheese near the end of the second to last, you'll MAYBE have the time to be able to return for it, but any further back than that is largely impossible.
10:10 - If memory serves me right (and it probably doesn't), there's an alternate game mode on Disk 2 of this game where the counter keeps track of Tom's points as well. It was only on the 5¼ disks. For some reason, the 3½ disks didn't have that version. I wish I still had my diskettes. It's probably lost media, now…
Sky games had a Tom and Jerry game called Food fight. It never got an official release because it was a streaming based game in the UK/Ireland in the mid to late 2000's but that game has major nostalgia for me. I used to play the free demo level all the time.
Dude i loved House Trap when i was a kid!! My favorite weapons were the frying pan and the bowling ball because the sound when you hit Tom with them was too funny, it was pure slapstick comedy sounds, the ROBO CAT boss fight was difficult as shit but it was a well deserved break from fighting Tom over and over again... There are 3 extra missions were the gimmick is different from killing each other, in each one there was a certain item that you had to collect and take it to "your goal" like a "capture the flag" kind of thing, in the baby chicks level Jerry had to find them and release them into the pond while Tom had to cook them on the stove, in another Spike was sleeping on the main room and Jerry had to wake him up by playing an air instrument while Tom had to throw them to the trash, and the final one was about Tom bringing valentine presents to Toodles while Jerry had to throw them in the trash. Every one or two battles, a random power up would appear in a room and the game tells you were to find them, there was a steak that recovers your health but you are vulnerable while eating it, a power protein that boosted your attack and an invisible ink that i never could figure out what it does because your character dissapeared. All of these levels and power ups were references to episodes of the show itself, so you could tell that the team behind the game really took their time to reference as many episodes as possible and i really appreciate that extra effort because i loved the show as a kid. The music was also very memorable, even now 15+ years later i still hum some of the songs when i remember them out of the blue, i just wished i had a friend to play 2 player and finally be able to pick Tom.
47:20 I first played this game at Mexico which I never knew it exsisted. And many years later, I drew all the fighters in the roster to a makeshift racing game.
The game in question is SRB2Kart (Sonic Robo Blast 2Kart). And my last character from Tom and Jerry I drew was Toodles and I have three reasons. 1. I never drew other T&J characters outside of War of the Whoskers so this is my best experiment to do so. 2. I don't think Toodles has appeared in other games that you've talked about. 3. The Toodles I drew is based on her appearence in the Mid 2010's version of Tom and Jerry.
The PC version of Tom and Jerry in Fists of Furry actually does have the soundtrack. The reason for it's absense during the gameplay is because the game music is stored entirely on the CD and it can be played only through an IDE CD/DVD-RW drive (SATA drives have no support for Audio CD music). Funnily enough, I once made a tutorial in the past how to launch the game on the modern Windows OS with the music being actually played, heh. Anyway, great video, I really enjoyed watching it :)
Note: On the title screen of Mouse Hunt, he mentions that Tom and Jerry are melting, the reason was because you were playing the European version of this game. (btw this game slaps 'cos its down right fun and hilarious) There is a reference in this game, the title screen music is based of the opening of the 1975 Tom and Jerry Show, same goes for the end and the game over screen.
I've been playing Tom & Jerry: Chase since season 1. The game isn't pay to win. The skins are all just purely cosmetics. Speaking of which, some skins can actually backfire you. For example, Tom's S tier skin replaces the dust effect(the cartoony dust cloud that appears when he jumps), is replaced with stage show lights. That is cool and all but when someone is invisible, the dust clouds are given as a clue to notice them. But a fancy stage light effect is a lot more obvious than just a simple dust cloud. You can purchase all the characters with gold(which you can earn for free) Each character have Passive, Skill, Weapon. Some characters have different Weapon(And you can unlock them just by doing missions)
@@ProjectPlayGaming There are multiple maps in the game. And most of them are crafted using the background environments of the original classics. The character design is also taken directly from the original classic era and they refined them even further to fit in our modern style. I've made a video a long time ago where I show some references they made to pay tribute to the original series. My video barely scratches the surface. They've done so much for this game. ruclips.net/video/FRRRF1CJkPs/видео.html
Mouse Hunt and House Trap were the only Tom & Jerry games I played as a kid. I managed to get Mouse Hunt through a kids meal promo at Burger King back in like 2001/2002. I played it a lot, and it was one of the few GBC games I managed to finish, but I don’t think I ever replayed it much. House Trap I played a few times, but got bored with it and never played it again (to me, at the time, it seemed like there was no level progression and I didn’t like the lack of story).
Fist of fury on pc actually does have music, however i never got it to work on modern operating systems, but it does exist. I actually played it when i was 3
The only tom & jerry game i remember enjoying is a flash game where you build a trap for jerry ala home alone. Tons of silly objects that trigger each other to finish the trap. It was nothing amazing but it was fun
Same on this! I actually found it again just recently, apparently looking up "tom and jerry trap flash game" yields it as one of the first results. I'm surprised it's not in the video
War of the whiskers was actually my First video game ever I have so many fun memories playing with my cousins I got the gamecube versions years later and that version is actually free for all 4 players which causes the game to get ever more chaotic
Two things about the MSX port: A. Many early non-Japanese MSX1 games were ports of ZX Spectrum games (which is clearly the case with Tom and Jerry, even if they did improve the chroma resolution a tad, compared to most that simply kept the ZX Spectrum's chroma resolution) B. Metal Gear was a MSX2 game (put simply, MSX2 was to the C64 what the MSX1 was to the VIC-20)
The PS2 version of War of the Whiskers has a case of "Rayman Arena Syndrome". It was a PS2 exclusive for a couple months, so they added extra bells and whistles for the other platforms. There is an option to play with 4 simultaneous players in the other versions. Gamecube and Xbox load times are basically non-existent as well.
@@ProjectPlayGaming helped that we were kids, it was colourful and easy and I remember really being excited to see what the different stages were going to do.
House Trap was the only Tom and Jerry game I've played and I remember there was a level that probably increased the game's difficulty to the max which was one with Mechani-Cat. My only complaint is how loud and frequent that robot beeps.
I don't play Tom and Jerry as much as I used to, when I was younger. I have both of the original Game Boy games, and one on Sega Emulator. You can attack without using weapons, on that game, by running, and pressing down while running. I only play them because, I'm a fan of Tom and Jerry! I still love them to this day!
I'll be honest for a long time i declared 'Tom and Jerry in House Trap' the best 'Tom and Jerry' game but NOT necessarily a 'Good Videogame', I'll explain ... The 'Spy vs Spy' gameplay take on it (which i haven't played but judging from gameplay looks similar) they had something really good going on in terms of concept at least, it's the most fitting 'Tom and Jerry' game to me because it's two characters trying to win out each other by hitting each other, throwing objects at each other and even setting up traps in the level for either of them to fall into without knowing or being careful, even if a lot of aspects of the game could be considered barebones, the music is fantastic and sounds like it could be from the show even if it's original, the multiplayer aspect can be quite fun, this is one that i feel that if it had more polish and even have a PC port so that players can have their own screen via LAN Multiplayer, had more content, more polished gameplay and bigger refined levels that isn't just The house like a maybe dark alley, supermarket, you name it like a way to re-create the different areas and scenarios they end up and such would've been the perfect recipe for a unique Tom and Jerry game that would've stand out from the rest ... but instead Tom and Jerry War of the Whiskers's multiplayer being the potential best option out of all of the games that has come out and even then that is if people enjoy the kind of Arena Brawler game experience it offers, it doesn't appeal to me too much. Either way, it's sad to me that the game that has the most attention and a most respectable amount of content is on an Asian mobile game that we can't even play even with emulation (or not without going through a bunch of walls just to play it) and even then could be questionable considering its microtransactions because i don't believe it doesn't have any that may or may not impact general gameplay or access to the juicy stuff My best experience with the Tom and Jerry games is the Sega Genesis one with a fan patch and Tom and Jerry in House Trap and even then with me being biased and kind of blinded by nostalgia I'll still say that is still depressing to see I am still glad you covered all of the games and gave your take, it was definitely entertaining and informative!
Tom & Jerry Tales for the DS is the game i remember playing alot as a kid back where i got this game in the early 2010s. Also it the only ds game that i own that was from the US despite me being from the UK but due to the DS having no region-locked system for DS cartridges i can play it on my ds without any issues.
In House Trap, you can safely walks into the trap's kill zone by holding R1. There will be a visual cue if the trap has been activated. Keep holding R1 until you are out of its kill zone. Also tapping, instead of merely pressing the button, makes ranged weapons fly faster, more accurate and hit harder. One more! Hitting your opponent 3 times in a quick succession deals massive damage, but it's near impossible to pull off.
@@ProjectPlayGaming It was my childhood. I agree that House Trap is short. There is nothing much to do once someone has tried all stages, weapons, and traps. My sister and I ended up playing Mechani-Cat over and over until we got bored of the game.
Tom & Jerry was the second game I ever got for my Game Boy Color. I was incredibly young and struggled with getting beyond the second level. I used to ask my older brother to help me. I had no idea that there was a regular Game Boy version. Between Tom & Jerry and The Wildthornberries game I had for the GBC, Tom & Jerry was the one I preferred, alhtough I would've liked to have a Pokemon game instead (my brohter got Gold version with his GBC that same Chirstmas that I got my GBC and these games).
The GBC version was definitely the better version to have at least! Shame you didn’t end up with Pokémon, I imagine you wouldn’t have touched much of Tom and Jerry if you had!
As someone who had been with the Tom and Jerry series for the longest time, Tom talking in the movie is unsurprising since Tom semi-frequently spoke in the classic cartoons. Jerry talking, on the other hand, is an unusual affair since the only time he spoke was as the narrator for the episode where Tom decides to off himself by sitting on the railway while chronically depressed.
The action key for "Tom & Jerry: Yankee Doodle's CAT-astrophe" is Insert/Num 0. With this you can take and throw an egg, throw light bulbs from the plane etc. I think lots of people don't know it, because they haven't the original manual of this game, because lots of people have this game downloaded from the Internet.
I remember loving Tom & Jerry Tales for the DS!! It's one of the earliest games I can recall, and even if the gameplay isn't anyrhing groundbreaking I really appreciate the presentation. Might be my nostalgia speaking because I also grew up with the show the game was based on though... ehh :P
Btw the vacuum, radio, TV and other environment stuff can be set as a trap. It's not random. If you use the tip toe movement you can see the trigger aeea and if it's active.
That makes a lot more sense. Are you able to get caught in your own traps? I swear Tom was caught out by these a whole bunch without me ever setting them.
I have Tom and Jerry: The Magic Ring from when I was a kid and I found it to be mildly enjoyable at times but even back then I knew it had some major issues.
I had Frantic Antics and Infernal Escape as a kid. Frantic Antics was one of the many Genesis games re-released by Majesco circa 2000. Both games blew, as you said, although I remember Infernal Escape being VERY different. Specifically, I remember a level taking place IN Hell. Still, I think the NES game is a hidden gem. You should do all the Looney Tunes games next. I'd love to hear your thoughts on Marvin Strikes Back.
House Trap was genuinely one of my favorite PS1 games! I remember begging my brother to help me beat the duckling stage because it was a pretty difficult game for a kid. Two player is definitely a LOT more fun, we laughed our asses off beating the shit out of each other lol
So there are full English versions of Tom and Jerry Chase, including voice acting, that you can easily download from APK sites, and they work and connect with the other versions all the same. The most you'll have to do for account connection is make a Line account, which is just Asia's version of SMS and is available internationally. You don't need to make a sketchy chinese only account or anything, and you don't need to rely strictly on emulation if you have an android phone. - Note that since all the servers are in Asia, you're going to experience ping issues, unless you play with bots. - All the controls are button based, so you'll have to bind them to your keyboard or controller if you're going to emulation. You don't need to use your mouse. - Anything that costs money is almost purely cosmetics. Everything else is usually buying additional characters to your roster, but those can be unlocked by playing the game and purchasing with the basic in-game currency. Everything else is unlocked and upgraded by playing the game. - The game did start off with the original cast of characters, but more recently they've implemented original characters or thorough redesigns of one-off unnamed characters.
Got recommended this video and watched it and the Toy Story one. I really like this idea for a series, and always love to see fellow UK RUclipsrs so have subscribed, hope to see more :)
Tom and Jerry Chase is basically Dead by Daylight for android, and it's actually pretty good I used to play it pretty often when it's just launched, The game itself is pretty fun and it's not really such a huge different between P2W and F2P gamepley wise(At least by the time that I played) Cosmetic-wise on the other hand took really long to farm for a gacha roll
The perk system is kinda pay2win, but it was possible to get them to max level. Game was really fun and feels a lot like what Tom and Jerry should be as a video game, but it got boring fast. It should be noted as while the game is not super pay2win, it is still a mobile game with several currencies and a battle pass. Also gacha for skins. Finally the company that made Tom and Jerry Chase also made Diablo Immortal, so what did you really expect?
It’s a neat idea, most other developers would have just made a traditional side scrolling platformer. These guys at least tried to add a more ‘Tom and Jerry’ theme to it.
Interesting to see a retrospective of every Tom and Jerry game as it is an iconic cartoon franchise dating back to 1940 its just a shame that none of the games are that great to play due technical flaws like bad hit detection, lack of content, repetitive gameplay and awful controls.
I remember back when i was a kid, me and my sister would play house trap for hours, just fucking around really, not even fighting, we had fun, and its a game i cherish tbh

Thanks dude! That means a lot.
Most successful first few days for one of my videos so far, so already happy with how well it has done.
I used to watch the show as a kid but never in my life had I played any of its games. Turns out I wasn't missing out that much, huh? 🤣
Great video BTW!
Unfortunately no masterpieces in the Tom and Jerry library… yet!
As a kid it sucked but at least scooby-doo ended up having a few good games
Did you know that there's a competitive War of the whiskers scene. There's actual tech and tournaments for this game
That’s crazy! It’s the one game where that does make some sense though.
Fair point, it does feel like Fists of Furry is one of the ‘best’ by default though, not thanks to its own merit!
I clicked on this video for Tom & Jerry Housetrap. My sister and I played this game all the time as kids and getting through each level figuring out what new traps and items were available was a ton of fun. I'll always enjoy that game.
It's nice learning that almost all of these games bring back positive memories for some people!
@@ProjectPlayGaming Definitely! Tom & Jerry has always been one of my favorite shows too. The old bowling alley episode and pool hall episode, "Mice Follies" where they freeze the house... Great video!
same😅
Always played it with a friend!
That’s some interesting stuff! Makes sense too, being as the game doesn’t feel like it has much to do with the movie at all.
Loved the tom & Jerry game for the original Gameboy back in the day as a kid
Not a bad option! Worth trying the Game Boy Color version too.
It’s not the worst of the bunch, that’s for sure.
Glad you had a good time with House Trap! Can’t say I did, but it’s definitely better than 1/10!
I had a goot time too!
Id say its a 6/10, not groundbreaking and really short, anr i like short games like Warioworld!
Glad to be of contribution to the Tom and Jerry addiction!
@@ProjectPlayGamingThanks man! Just checked out the rest of your channel. Earned that subscription. Keep up the good work!!
Honestly that's awesome, being drawn into these consoles through these games!
i remember how MUCH i used to watch videos of Tom and Jerry video games on RUclips, interesting to get reminded of these games
I remember playing House Trap as a kid with my neighbor and we thought Tom's screams were the funniest thing ever. I was also very scared of the robot cat on one of the later levels and had to ask my dad to complete it.
That’s awesome! I think I would have got more out of House Trap if I had played it as a kid.
Thank you for documenting all these
It is a shame old browser games just aren’t all easily accessible these days!
@@ProjectPlayGaming looking it up I think its available using emulation actually!
@@ineedumonstataclobbadatder4499 Oh that's awesome, I'll have a look into that!

@@PeruvianPotatoTrap-o-matic is still hosted on a website to this day - you can still play it! google it, it's one of the first results
Tom and Jerry in house trap brings back some memories. The verse mode is the only way to enjoy the game to be honest.
Yeah it isn't the best, that's for sure. Without a 2 player mode, I may have agreed with it getting 1/10.
Just found out your channel and I've been loving the retro-retrospectives you usually make!

One video I didn’t know I needed. God bless your sacrifice from playing these games.
I ain’t even know Tom and Jerry had these many games
I won’t lie, going into it I wasn’t expecting so many!
The AI fighters in Fists of Furry constantly jumping around is soooo true lol
Very frustrating too!
That’s awesome, not a bad game to have as your first!
I remember playing the SNES game as a kid. it was marvelous at the time, it felt like I was playing the cartoon
It’s a good looking little game, plus there weren’t many options at the time!
At my house we played CAT-astrophe so much and never really understood what we were trying to accomplish other than bugging the heck out of Tom. And that was enough for us!
I think ‘bugging Tom’ sums up CAT-astrophe pretty well
House Trap on the PS1 unlocked a real nostalgic treasure chest there.
One note about the "pointless distractions" like the TV and radio - they're actually traps you and Tom can set to deliberately stall your opponent. You can also sneak by them if you know they're set to avoid triggering them.
I remember watching these youtube gameplays of mouse atack...best childhood moments
:D I’ve been looking for a Tom and Jerry video essay on RUclips for so long! Thank you!
Glad to be of service!
This was a really fun video, I've never heard of any of these games! Keep making stuff like this please

Fists of Furry is forever my favourite game. Pure chaos. Tom screaming will always be the funniest for me. 🤣🤣🤣
Chaos is definitely the word I would use 🤣
you forgot the tom and jerry's trap-o-matic where you will build a contraption to cut the cage and get jerry. definitely completed my childhood lmao love the video I am shocked that this cartoon went all way back to the commodore days.
I think that one was a browser game! I’ll have to look into where I can play those.
@@ProjectPlayGaming it's a flash game and there's too many flash game players online! enjoy playing that masterpiece!
One mistake I feel like pointing out: Yes, the roll attack IS in the Genesis version of Frantic Antics.
A shame Chase has a few issues, sounds like it’s really close to being awesome!
I’m more concerned with how the reviewers defined ‘3D fighting game’ to end up with this one as the absolute best on the system!
I remember that NES game (Tom & Jerry (& Tuffy)), it was so fun back in the day, never managed to play through to the end, was always too hard, gotta try again one day, see how well I do when looking at it with an adult gaming experienced hand
Or just press right right up left up right down b a select on the title screen for infinite lives :) (I'll probably remember that code untill I die)

Hey pal, I really liked this video, the way you approach every game is really good and complete
Thanks!
That explains a lot!
Great video and as a Tom and Jerry fan I can only hope someday we get a truly great Tom and Jerry game.
Some of these were good ideas, just flawed in the execution. Just need one to hit all the marks!
to be honest, the best one on home consoles was war of the whiskers, it has 4 player coop and just feels like a party fighting game youd find on xbox arcade, but it has some content and i still play it around in an emulator sad part is that the company who made these games got bankrupt, house trap and war of the whiskers felt like real tom and jerry games, chaotic and fun

I never got to a point where I saw the hell level, interesting!
Love this vid, it's great quality! Thanks for making it.. subbed!
Thank you so much 😄
I had the PC CAT-astrophe game, and there much more things that you could do. I don't remember the controls, but you could throw eggs as well. You can also pick dynamites from the lower right, fight with fencing, activate that trap with the tomato inside Jerry's house to hit Tom in the face, and more.
I figured there must be more that could be achieved, but damn it was annoying to control!
Ah, that makes sense!
It's probably lost media, now…
That’s interesting. And yeah, there’s a fair chance that could be lost media, or at least hard-as-hell-to-find media.
I feel like the game could really shine in 2 player
@@ProjectPlayGaming Yes! I mean, you cant go wrong with the Spy vs Spy formula for multiplayer games
The Mouse Attacks game has a lot of pushing GBC music to the limits, which i really love.
Good point, I never really thought about that!
47:20 I first played this game at Mexico which I never knew it exsisted. And many years later, I drew all the fighters in the roster to a makeshift racing game.
That’s cool!
War of the wiskers always has a special place in my heart because when I was little me and my father would play it all the time together
That’s awesome!
That makes sense, I feel like I’ve encountered similar issues with old PC games before
@@ProjectPlayGaming Yeah. Now you know the reason why 99.5% of old PC games (released before 2003/2004) won't play music on modern computers :)
Note: On the title screen of Mouse Hunt, he mentions that Tom and Jerry are melting, the reason was because you were playing the European version of this game. (btw this game slaps 'cos its down right fun and hilarious)
There is a reference in this game, the title screen music is based of the opening of the 1975 Tom and Jerry Show, same goes for the end and the game over screen.
You can purchase all the characters with gold(which you can earn for free)
Each character have Passive, Skill, Weapon.
Some characters have different Weapon(And you can unlock them just by doing missions)
That’s good to know! Hopefully they’ll release it over here someday and I can give it a go!

Mouse Hunt was definitely the better option out of those two
13:44 Yeah, Tim Follin tended to go all out with the music he composed, even if the game was subpar.
Earning that pay check, that’s for sure. Awesome soundtrack.
i never could get past the first level of tom and jerry and tuffy as a kid, but i remember every single note of that soundtravk
It’s one of the tougher games to get through, especially as a kid I can imagine. Soundtrack is awesome though.

Fist of fury on pc actually does have music, however i never got it to work on modern operating systems, but it does exist. I actually played it when i was 3
Huh, must be one of those things. At least the rest of the game works!
The only tom & jerry game i remember enjoying is a flash game where you build a trap for jerry ala home alone. Tons of silly objects that trigger each other to finish the trap.
It was nothing amazing but it was fun
I’ll have to try to find some of these flash games!
Same on this! I actually found it again just recently, apparently looking up "tom and jerry trap flash game" yields it as one of the first results. I'm surprised it's not in the video
War of the whiskers was actually my First video game ever
I have so many fun memories playing with my cousins
I got the gamecube versions years later and that version is actually free for all 4 players which causes the game to get ever more chaotic
Having 4 players on GameCube immediately makes it a more worthwhile experience!
Two things about the MSX port:
A. Many early non-Japanese MSX1 games were ports of ZX Spectrum games (which is clearly the case with Tom and Jerry, even if they did improve the chroma resolution a tad, compared to most that simply kept the ZX Spectrum's chroma resolution)
B. Metal Gear was a MSX2 game (put simply, MSX2 was to the C64 what the MSX1 was to the VIC-20)
Yeah, I’ve definitely learnt that I need to look into the history of the MSX a lot more!
We had war of the whiskers as kids! I remember it being super fun playing it with my brother haha
Glad you enjoyed it! Multiplayer seems to be the best way!
@@ProjectPlayGaming helped that we were kids, it was colourful and easy and I remember really being excited to see what the different stages were going to do.
Great work man!
I don't know how to thank you, man
House Trap was the only Tom and Jerry game I've played and I remember there was a level that probably increased the game's difficulty to the max which was one with Mechani-Cat. My only complaint is how loud and frequent that robot beeps.
That robot cat was a pain!
That’s awesome! Check out the other games too if you like those!
Either way, it's sad to me that the game that has the most attention and a most respectable amount of content is on an Asian mobile game that we can't even play even with emulation (or not without going through a bunch of walls just to play it) and even then could be questionable considering its microtransactions because i don't believe it doesn't have any that may or may not impact general gameplay or access to the juicy stuff
My best experience with the Tom and Jerry games is the Sega Genesis one with a fan patch and Tom and Jerry in House Trap and even then with me being biased and kind of blinded by nostalgia I'll still say that is still depressing to see
I am still glad you covered all of the games and gave your take, it was definitely entertaining and informative!
I can totally see the appeal of House Trap as a multiplayer game!
War of the Whiskers is such a classic. Love that game.
Interestingly, my copy is also a US copy despite being in the UK. Thank god region-locking died out.
I was thinking of a video idea of this exact same subject. Glad you did it so i don't have to.

Some genuinely good tips that might make the game a little more berable
@@ProjectPlayGaming Let's just say that I always tried to "borrow" my brother's Pokemon Gold cartridge.
Sounds like you know your Tom and Jerry! The full blown conversations were also an odd thing to experience in the movie.
That’s actually very helpful information!
I remember loving Tom & Jerry Tales for the DS!! It's one of the earliest games I can recall, and even if the gameplay isn't anyrhing groundbreaking I really appreciate the presentation. Might be my nostalgia speaking because I also grew up with the show the game was based on though... ehh :P
It’s very simple, but not bad for young kids as a starting point!
SO HAPPY YOUR BACK MAN!
Thanks!
@@ProjectPlayGamingwould really appreciate some more ps2 content
@@cutc2k764 I have a pretty big collection of PS2 games now so I'm sure I could find some interesting stuff to play!
@@ProjectPlayGamingps2 was notorious for movies tie in games that would be perfect
I have Tom and Jerry: The Magic Ring from when I was a kid and I found it to be mildly enjoyable at times but even back then I knew it had some major issues.
It's not the best, but I can see how it would kill some time as a kid.
I'm very tempted to do some Looney Tunes, I think that's a definite future video there, even if it isn't my very next one!
I believe to be your 3000th subscriber. Loved the video, I'll check more of your videos.
That’s awesome, thank you very much!
House Trap was genuinely one of my favorite PS1 games! I remember begging my brother to help me beat the duckling stage because it was a pretty difficult game for a kid. Two player is definitely a LOT more fun, we laughed our asses off beating the shit out of each other lol
Tom and Jerry chase is actually a LOTTA fun! Especially if you're playing co-op with friends
I can believe that! Hopefully we get a worldwide release.
I’ll have to give it another go at some point, wish there weren’t so many hoops to jump through though!
Got recommended this video and watched it and the Toy Story one. I really like this idea for a series, and always love to see fellow UK RUclipsrs so have subscribed, hope to see more :)
Awesome! Thank you!
Tom and Jerry Chase is basically Dead by Daylight for android, and it's actually pretty good
I used to play it pretty often when it's just launched, The game itself is pretty fun and it's not really such a huge different between P2W and F2P gamepley wise(At least by the time that I played)
Cosmetic-wise on the other hand took really long to farm for a gacha roll
It’s not bad at all. Says a lot that it’s overall one of the better games on this list.
House Trap was one of the games my brother and I loved to play together.
I can see it working in 2 player!
The Sega Master System game is one of my favourites for an 8-bit machine, and "Tom and Jerry" is my favourite cartoon series.
It’s a neat idea, most other developers would have just made a traditional side scrolling platformer. These guys at least tried to add a more ‘Tom and Jerry’ theme to it.
Very well made and equally entertaining.
Thanks!
That's awesome, and probably the best way by far to play House Trap.
When jerry going through rings thats superman 64 mode .
I will go ahead and say that this game was at the very least better than Superman 64!
@@ProjectPlayGaming well that's almost sort of kind of a compliment LOL
Literally laughed out loud when you said you couldn’t “recommend ANY of the games to play” out of the zillion games made. 😂 you played a whole lot of bad & tried all of them. You definitely earned my sub.
Whilst they aren’t all an absolute disaster, yeah… can’t really recommend them 🤣.
