Hi again! I simply want to tell you that I have just finished 6 scalloped placemats and your tutorial was more than helpful and as I love the result, I’ll be making more, that’s for sure. I got some “Ho! Ha!” from people who saw them and that’s always rewarding. Have a great day! 😎🌺
I ordered 2 of these kits and I believe this is the most beautiful fabric I have ever worked with. The tutorial is absolutely wonderful....thanks for taking the time so I can have these wonderful placemats on my table.
We're so happy to hear that you enjoyed the kits and that the tutorial was helpful! :) We agree, it's absolutely beautiful fabric!! We'd love to see pictures of your finished placemats if you have them and want to share! :) - Morgan
I have this pattern and made some up for Christmas last year. loved them! I'm going to just use cotton batting this time and quilt them for my summer placemats.
I’m so glad you do these tutorials! I would be intimidate to buy all the supplies for this project without the tutorial! And I don’t find them sales pitchy as someone else said. A person doesn’t need everything mentioned but if a person didn’t see you use the appliqué mat for example you might be disappointed you didn’t order one!
Thank you so much for watching and for leaving a comment. I truly appreciate your support. I too find myself intimidated with new notions until someone shows we how to use them. It's so true that a picture is worth 1000 words! Thanks again, XO Jen
Thank you so much for watching! We're so glad you liked the video and found it helpful, and we're always happy to recommend products we actually use and love. - Morgan
Aren't they cute?! We love those pre-scalloped bosal forms! You're right that they make the project so much easier (and quicker)! Thank you for watching! - Morgan
Nicely made tutorial! The camera work was great also. The scalloped edges add a little something extra on the placemats - not your everyday rectangular placemats, making for a very interesting tutorial. Thanks, Jenn!
That collection would look stunning in a tote! While we do not have a tutorial for the bag and clutch, we do still have the pattern available here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/p67397/scalloped-bags-pattern Thanks for watching! 💖 -Michelle
I made it now with my material (this about the complaints about commercial), just to try it and as it is a birthay gift for my brother who maybe doesn't like scallops. So I made straight seams and used a quite heavy cotton fabric as backing, no batting or anything like that. I could send you a picture, if you like. It is an easy looking project, but it isn't easy. Just to mention that. It is neccessary to work quite accurate. The framed pattern looks beautiful - not important if scallops outside or flowers or apples inside.
We're so glad you made this project. We like to encourage people to make, and we offer kits for people who want to make exactly what we did, and suggest the notions that we use that are helpful to us, but we want our viewers to just have a good time and make something beautiful. That's why we just focus on making quality videos and teaching proper techniques. We appreciate you watching and we would love to see photos if you have them!
Love these! I really want to make some but using different fabric, however I can't find the pattern by itself. It seems like the only way to get the pattern is to buy the full kit?
Thank you so much for watching and for asking this question! We do offer just the pattern on our site! You can find it here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Scalloped-Placemats-Pattern-P67396.aspx - Morgan
When I pinned the border strip set together to the back rectangle I had to stitch 1/8 inch around instead of the 1/4 inch. I unfortunately found out there was not enough room to sew inside the lines. Even that little bit made a big difference. I should have made a trial first before cutting into my beautiful fabric. The other ones came out very pretty. I love them.
So sorry that happened to your first one, Maryann. But glad to hear that the others turned out beautifully. Let me know if theres a specific project or tutorial you'd like to see. - Morgan
Shabby Fabrics thank you for responding. The only problem was that the fabric store that I bought my fabric from has no more and doesn’t expect any in.. now I have only 3 placemats. 😥
Shabby Fabrics ... I will check to find out but will be out of town for a few days so will get back to you when I get back. I know it was a line from Moda but will get back to you. Thanks a lot!
I found the name. It is the Moda Fabric, Vintage Holiday by Bonnie and Camille . I only need 2 fat quarters of the front and back fabric, 1/2 yard of the border and 1/3 yard of the striped accent. If you send me your email I can send you a picture of the ones I have done. Thank you.
Nice tutorial, the placemats are very pretty ~ that would be a fun project. Would it be preferred to prewash the fabrics with the shrinkage factor especially since bosal is shrink free? I wonder how flat the mats would lay otherwise. What are your thoughts on that?
We've found that we don't typically have to prewash fabrics that are high-quality, and we didn't in this case. You can definitely do that if you'd like if you're worried about the fabrics shrinking. We haven't done it so we can't say for sure whether it would affect the mat flatness or not. Those are great questions, thank you for watching and asking!
Soooo beautiful 😊 Always love your tutorials... Thank You for Sharing. .. Had to make 10 little girl dresses a few weeks ago. Used your Friction Pen, wonderful, hardly any pins, the pen did most of the work. Love Love it 😊
So glad you like it, and thank you so much for watching! We're so happy the Frixion pen worked well for you - we love ours and use them daily. What a fun undertaking - 10 little girl dresses?! Amazing! Was it for a special occasion?
@@ShabbyFabrics Belong to a Ladies Church Group. Sent the dresses to the little girls in Africa. Now I am going to try my hand at Sani-Pads . The little girls have nothing, so they drop out of school 😢 My heart just broke when hearing this. But, after reading the directions, no pattern, I know the Frixion Pen will help 100%. Thank You Again 😊
We didn't do a tutorial for that one, but there's a great pattern that is helpful! You can find it here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/Scalloped-Bags-Pattern-P67397.aspx - Morgan
That is definitely a personal preference. We do not tend to wash our fabrics prior to project creation, but we will use a light spray starch product, such as "Magic Sizing". Hope this makes sense! 💖 -Michelle
I was unable to see where you sewed the scallops. Was the pressure foot on the bosul with the needle actually sewing next to the bosul? If so, I’m going to try that with the scalloped purse kit I just purchased from you. I love the bosul product but it does make the seams bulky when sewn in the seam allowance. This method eliminates the issue. Thank you
Thank you for watching! When we sew the scallops, we actually sew next to the bosal, not through it. We found that using a zipper-foot help us get right there close to the bosal. Hope that helps, and we hope you have a good time making these! - Morgan
A Frixion Pen is a marking pen. It works on fabric and paper, and the ink disappears with heat or friction (on paper, this would be rubbing it off with the "eraser"). We use it in our projects because it's an easy way to mark the fabric, and then it just irons right off. We use it to mark starting/stopping points, draw lines for embroidery, draw outlines for appliqué, etc. Does that help answer your question? - Morgan

With the dark green border, this fabric almost looks Christmas-y!
It really does! You probably could make it work for both summer and Christmas! Thanks for watching.

Where can I buy just the pattern? I don't need fabric.
The pattern can be found on the Shabby Fabrics website

After you trimmed the backing fabric around the scallop, did you stitch it in down?

What is the name of the marking pen?
That is the Frixion Pen! You can find it here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/frixion-clicker-pen-2-pack-7mm-black-P29462.aspx

Have you made the bag or clutch? I need some help with the instructions.
We did make the scalloped bag and clutch! How can we help you? - Morgan
Did you create a video?
I have a bunch of fat quarters. How many fat quarters would I need to make 4 color placemats?
The finished placemats are 12" x 18" so you'll likely want at least 4 fat quarters. - Morgan
