I do love that you have showed the Free Motion Quilting in real time and resisted the urge to speed up that process. I think it will make it much easier for my fellow sewists to follow along Thank you
Love Tammy's presentations - so simple and easy to follow. She doesn't make things confusing by rambling on about irrelevant things. Definitely making this one.
I really, REALLY appreciate the video tutorial portion on free motion quilting! Very helpful to see this while listening to the instructional commentary. Seeing the difference between regular free motion quilting and free motion quilting with a stitch regulator was wonderful! I've not seen this on any other channel. THANK YOU!!!!
You do wonderful tutorials. Always clear and concise. This is a great project to refine free motion quilting skills. Very helpful for us newbies.. Thank you.
I bought this pattern, because I thought it was a beautiful new accent for the table. I am a visual learner for the most part, thank you for the video! Now I am excited to make it. Thank you again for the video, loved it and the project.
I finally made this project - bought the fabric and kit last year. It turned out just beautiful. I have realized how spoiled I am as a rotary cutter! Cutting out the trees was a flashback to my fashion sewing days.
What helpful tips with free-motion quilting. 😄I’m one of those who’s kind of intimidated with free-motion quilting. I’ll have to give it a try. Thanks.
It's a beautiful project, but my practical side is wondering how to pack it up. I think foam batting would work though I don't know if it would pack better and it is a lot of fun to watch it crinkle in real time. Thanks for introducing me to a product I hadn't seen before!
We're just storing ours standing upright in a plastic box. You could try the velcro route, but we're not sure if the tree would flatten enough. - Morgan
I would love, love, love to make this. Tammy is such an amazing teacher. My problem is I do not have a machine. Is it possible to make this project by sewing by hand??? If so, is there a tutorial on it to do so? I am a visual learner...ty
I will be buying the pattern. I think I’m going to make it more a winter theme to leave out after Christmas and make the base with with silvery white fabric and make it look like a tree in snow instead of a tree skirt. I like my house to look festive all winter.
This is awesome, I love it. I am definitely going to make this. We are empty nesters again. I have my sewing room back so I am quilting small projects so this is perfect. Thank you for this and all the other great things to make.
Thanks for another great project, Tammy! Just ordered and can’t WAIT to start and make one up. I think I’m going use the "silver bells" line from kaufman. YAY!!
This would be nice to make but some of us need part 2 where you hand stitch the pieces together. Like how much do you stitch to the bottom. And do you stitch where the seams meet or part of each tree section and how far down?
Hi Christine - We haven't tried using typical batting, so that's a great question. We'd love to know how it works out for you. Thank you for watching! -Michelle
I love this decoration. I was wondering though could you show how to sew the skirt to the tree? I just don't want to mess up the project when I make one. Thank you 😊
It's such a fun project! We didn't get permission from the pattern designer to show that part for this video, but I'll let our team know you'd like to see that this year! - Morgan

Love this, is this pattern available in uk? or do you have it as a PDF that we can purchase and download because the postal service to uk is very expensive. . Hoping we can get that great batting as the trees look great. Thank you for the video.
We wish we had this available as a PDF! It's not our pattern, and we don't currently have permission from the designer to offer it as a download. :/ - Morgan
Oh wow❣️great tutorial. I bought some shrinking batting about 10 years ago and hadn’t found anything I liked enough to use it. I forgot I had it ☺️ thanks for the jolt to my memory 😛 this is worth pulling it out. Now I need a reminder as to where I put it 🤷♀️
Isn't that such a great song? Our video person uses music from a specific website, so I don't know if you'll be able to find it anywhere, but it's called "Home for Christmas" from the album Jolly Season - Home for the Holidays.
The batting that is used for this project is packages of heat - heat- moldable batting by Bosal or you can use heat and shape moldable batting by Innovative Craft Projects. - Yajaira
Hi Rhonda, for a project of this size, the amount of quilting should not significantly affect the shrinkage of the project. Hope you find this info helpful! -Bethany
Would a hand held garment steamer work ? I am old school and do not have a steam iron ...... I still iron with just a dry iron and sprinkle, "spritz", my clothes, or just dry iron fabric when I am sewing. Yeah, I use a soda bottle with a cork sealed sprinkling head to dampen clothes, sheets, table cloths, etc. Learned how to do this from my mom back in the late 1950's and in the '60's when I was a kid. Steam irons are ok. I just like to do things old school. Heck, I have my grandmother's old flat "sad" irons that my mom had to use when SHE was a kid growing up on a farm ...... had to heat them on the top of the wood fired stove in the kitchen. Still haven't figured out how to properly heat them on my electric stove to try my hand at REALLY old school ironing. Why would I want to do that? Why not? I am 68 ..... more than one way to tone up one's arms and shoulders! :0D
Your hand-held garment steamer might work! We haven't tried it! Old school ironing would definitely tone up those arms and shoulders. haha. Let us know if you do figure that out! ;) - Morgan
Isn't it so fun?! We're so glad you like it! You can find the pattern here: www.shabbyfabrics.com/tabletop-tannenbaum-pattern-P78943.aspx You'll also want to be sure and add the moldable batting: www.shabbyfabrics.com/bosal-tabletop-tannenbaum-moldable-batting-P78020.aspx Let us know how your project turns out! - Morgan
I absolutely love this Christmas tree and want to try it but the batting is so expensive! I have to buy 2 packages to make the tree and skirt which will be $50, I was hoping to make a few of these as gifts but I can't justify spending that much $$ on one tree.
We are glad you enjoy this festive project. The Bosal Tabletop Tannenbaum Moldable Batting From Bosal was designed by Poorhouse Quilt Designs for this project. You could probably use some other stabilizer to replicate the rigidity, but we do not recommend doing the "steaming" step of the pattern as that may not work the same on an alternate stabilizer. Hope this makes sense! -Michelle
Could we just sew them with batting on each piece, turn them and add poly fill to make a puffy pudgy tree instead of the way you are showing? I remember puffy trees from a long time ago.
That would probably work! We haven't tried it so we can't be sure, but let us know if you try it and how they turn out! We remember the puffy trees, too! - Morgan
So this was fun to make but the major problem I am having is attaching the tree to the tree skirt. Every way I have tried does not work. Any suggestions would be most appreciated! Thanks!
Hi Lisa! We'd love to help guide you with this! It may be preferable to message us through Facebook or Instagram so you can show us what you're working with. Since we do not know which methods you have tried, we would like to suggest using a curved/upholstery needle and either a hand quilting thread or you can use two strands of a 50wt. Please let us know if you find this answer helpful. 🎄✨🎄 -Michelle
We would love to provide that if we could, but it's not our pattern and we haven't gotten permission to provide it as a PDF from the designer. :/ - Morgan
I'm not sure that I would use that particular batting for a handbag because its different than regular batting as it hardens up. However we do have batting available to make a purse. Hello,
I'm fairly new to sewing.
Your video has inspired me. I do have 2 questions.
1. Do you have a previous video that will show us how to hand sew thick fabrics?
I have moderate to sever arthritis in my hands. Any needle assistants you may know about I would appreciate any ideas you may have. The top point and the tree skirt will need to be done by hand. Unless there a tool to help push a needle I don't know if I can do any hand sewing.
2. I have a Brother 2700 machine. Do I have to quilt the trees? I'm a new sewer. I have no idea about quilting
