The chassis dyno at ATS Diesel Performance is the place where it all went down and where it’s “all about the numbers,” as peak horsepower and torque numbers are added together to determine a truck’s rear-wheel-performance total. #DieselPowerChallenge
Starting October 8, 2018 exclusively on the Motor Trend RUclips Channel, host Alan Reinhart takes you through our weeklong torture test that features 6 competitive segments, 9 trucks, and 20,522.3 combined horsepower and torque at the rear wheels. We push Cummins, Duramax, and Power Stroke-powered trucks well beyond their limits in this search for the ultimate street-legal diesel truck and driver.

Haha there was one of the cummins that was on 13:1 compression. Not sure if it would start in the cold. Must be a struggle even when warm to get it going haha

“They built theses old trucks to last, unlike today” as his truck has all newer truck parts. “And these old trucks don’t rust like the newer trucks”. Really? Why did you buy a California truck when you live in PA. Because you couldn’t find one that wasn’t rotted out here that wasn’t a fortune because it was restored.
BTW: using a torch to heat up a nitrous bottle is a really bad idea. There is a reason they make bottle heaters.
CamaroAmx I do think they were made tougher, but they definitely rust up here in upstate ny and your not getting a rust free old truck unless it’s your grandpas garage queen or you sell your soul for it, I have a thing for old Toyota pickups but I can’t even find them anymore

The old trucks weren’t really as tough as many think they were. They were solid but their frames flexed a lot (c-channel instead of boxed like today) but they were very simple and the running gear would outlast the body and they were simple it fix or modify.
now that I see how much rust free old trucks go for nowadays, I wish kept some my old trucks (78 f150, 79 f150, 79 bronco, 86 f250), but back then they were still relatively cheap and everywhere in the late 90s.
I live in PA.
they were not more reliable, just easier to fix lol.

they won't . being a diesel truck program it would mostly appeal to a conservative crowd which will halve the audience for it and it would need to also be a conservative with expendable income and knowledge of technology (to sign up for the site) which again is very tiny market.

Smoke on the street is going to get someones truck remotely " ventilated " . I'd like to see those that think smoking out others is funny tied to a tree then get smoked by their own truck for about 15 min. Diesel smoke truck owners, the new Corvette owner.
Hear, hear! Clean it up boys, we know you want to. Just because you wore training pants into the 1st grade is no reason to show everyone how filthy you can be.
We know smokeless is possible, isn’t there a pull truck tuned by Nick from duramaxtuner that is smokeless? Would love to see that competing here. Tweaking and adjusting of the fuel map...could clean some of that smoke right up.
I agree for "smoke without power" tunes for high school douches but these guys are pushing BIG numbers and it's kind of a symptom of big diesel power to smoke. Before you refute it, yes smokeless is possible but it's difficult and often unachievable for most guys wrenching on their trucks in their garage. Bottom line, these are more like race trucks than street trucks and smoke happens. Not a big deal, they aren't rolling around smoking into Honda windows at stop lights for giggles, they're cranking out 1000+ hp on a dyno. World of difference.
@@BlakJak the funny thing is that, with the crazy power levels these guys are putting out, the "trucks" are nearly actually useless. Seems like the only thing any of them do with actual competency is turning cubic dollars into unusable smoke.
I've yet to see a 6.7 Powerstroke in one of these, or any newer diesel for that matter. Considering that they all now make 900+ lb-ft stock with all emissions equipment intact, it seems like a great place to start.

jorkusmalorkus Phones are easily turned to orient to however a video was shot. However, all our other devices cannot be easily turned, and our society suffers for the idiots who can’t remember to turn their camera the right way.
I didn’t buy a 55” tv for my living room to watch a 15” wide vertical video with black bars on the sides. Yes, some of is watch RUclips on a TV and not on our phones.

why are they trailering there trucks to the competition. there diesel, should be built to last right? so drive em down like a man, its a truck for god sakes. if you cant drive it 1000+ miles with no problems its not worthy of being called a truck, let alone a diesel power challenge winner
I agree sort of. They should drive them there for pride but every one of these guys is taking a huge chance not to blow the truck up during competition.

The drive there is not the part you worry about. It’s the power you make down there day after day after day! Most of us drove to dinner every night while we were down there
They bring the trailers in case they fry the motor at the competition. Because most of those men are running them on the edge and if the bottom end goes. I would want my $100000+ truck brought home with me the day I left.
Suppose it depends on far you have to travel. Would hate to be unable to compete because you were stranded by a flat tire or a dead battery

fuel economy? surely there's another criteria, like braking? Yes! Getting all that weight plus a trailer stopped would be good fun to watch and actually more important. I can tell you, a Volkswagen diesel gets better fuel mileage, for example. Truly irrational based on a hot rod "street compatible truck". Keep the truck stock if that's important!
It's easy to throw fuel at an engine and make power, it takes more engineering to make it efficient. Remember the goal of this competition was to pick the best all around round truck.
always have loved this competition, really wish keeter was able to make it again its ashame I have always loved that truck. Would have liked to so a 7.3 and 6.7 compete in this also the 6.7 cummins, and 5.0 cummins in the titan.

I wonder if we can also do these challenged for cars as well? I mean it's a test of how useable your modified car is for everyday activities, performance on track, and also how easy it is for you to maneuver through tight spaces and what not.

I love keeping the hood closed on my old stock 1995 F350 with the trusty ole’ 7.3. Just maintain it, put it on the road till I get to my destination. That’s a good truck. I pull our 11,000 lbs bumper pull toy-hauler and just baby it on major mountain passes(automatic Trans). Keeps on tickin!

90% sure the dyno readings aren’t correct because there is no way the first two trucks had the same horsepower and the second two trucks had the same horsepower as well, a pump truck that spins all four on the dyno definitely makes way more than that gm

Anyone else find it odd that all of these "street/daily" trucks show up on trailers? I mean, I love this series and all the trucks, but calling trucks that need a shot of nitrous to spool the turbo a street truck seems like a stretch.

So duramaxs have been crapping out the past few years so they threw as many as they could in this year to try and get a podium finish

I love the truck--but Shayne's lack of logic lost me. Trucks are made MUCH MORE HEAVIER DUTY now--and far far far more rust resistant! The later models are running to higher mileage far more often than trucks of his truck's era.

13:00 you bought a California truck bro, of course it's not going to be full of rust, I can assure you after having a '79 f250 that spent all its life in northwest Indiana, they rust the exact same as the new trucks do (aside from the new pop can fords that is)

Seems like the trucks this year all should be competitive. In past years it seems like a few trucks that got in were all show and not much go
Wilky Way all of these trucks are trailer queens and mall crawlers (show up on trailers and have rubber band tires on huge rims and with not scratch on the body including the bed).
