- Diesel Power Challenge 2018 Presented by XDP’s 9 reader-selected contenders compete in an event designed to assess each driver’s skill. On the cone course, the spotlight shifts from a truck’s go-fast prowess to the driver’s ability to navigate a CDL-style training circuit while maneuvering with an 11,500-pound tractor-carrying trailer in tow. Completing the course with the quickest time can help a driver inch closer to claiming the overall DPC title. #DieselPowerChallenge

They have make this event so tight and slow its boring to watch. When I was in DPC it looked like way more fun and not so technical. Being able to accelerate and not idle around the course sounds better.
This is still more fun to watch than a modern Formula 1 race.
Navigating around the cones reminds me of the original Driver Playstation game. Smash them up lol.

I really enjoyed this challenge. The bonus was the trooper trying at the end. it looked like a lot of fun.

I'm a little out of practice, but give me a few days of wheel time to train and get back into my groove and I'm pretty sure I could destroy most of these guys on the trailer maneuvering part. If you pull a trailer a lot with a long wheelbase truck like these, you get used to the idea that you have to swing it really wide around the tight corners. Only a couple of these guys seemed to know how to get that done. It's not to mention that backing a trailer straight on flat paved ground isn't all that hard if you do it with any regularity. All that power doesn't help you when you need to quickly back a trailer up in heavy traffic with no one spotting or directing traffic for you. Many of these guys obviously have never used these trucks for anything but showing off. They should sell them and go buy a Mustang or Camaro, save themselves a bunch of money and go way faster.
Anyone notice they have a oversized load sign on the white freightliner they brought the trailer in with lmao. Super trucker status

The one guy with a manual and he cant drive it. That G56 has a 6.29 or 5.94 first gear for towing heavy loads, use it.

All this challenge showed us is these guys should not be allowed to haul a trailer on a public road. That was hard to watch. No wide turns, Over correcting like crazy. These are the type of idiot who rip the side off someone’s car in traffic. Stick to the dyno and drag strip smh 🤦♂️
Hey who knows, maybe if they stick to the dyno and drag strip they can actually learn how to properly stage and race. I'm not sure whether the drag race or this was worse but this whole power challenge has been a massive cringe fest.
I can back an 80' long peice of farm equipment with two implements behind into a shop door from a 90° faster than most these guys can spool their truck! let alone back a 100' straight line! Also half these guys just had a revelation that tow mirrors actually have a purpose😂

This was honestly the least exciting cone course I've seen noone gave it any balls on the course. I would think maybe the trailer was too heavy but if the Tahoe can do it it's not that bad just boring
I think it's due to the layout of the course. There aren't any straight parts where they can get the turbos spooled up. Constantly having to make sharp turns. This was hands down the shittiest year
New challenge idea! . Give these guys a trailer and let them tow it threw the city and see how many curbs and cars they can hit in a five mile span Ahahaha !
Remember people...this isn't a serious or legit showcase of the diesel truck competition world. It's one big product placement ad filled with dyno queens at this point... Try not to take this silliness too seriously.
They need to bring back the short straight away on the trailer challenge, get rid of that announcer, and have 3 Chevy 3 dodges 3 fords and the returning champ again wtf is with this line up this year?

Eric it’s all about the dyno dyno dyno, these guys never drive there trucks in real life situations, these trucks live and die on the dyno, sad life for a Diesel truck
@@smellinlady6618 pretty much. Everyone loves the power but the practicality of using a 1000 hp truck for a Dd or work truck isnt there.

l think it's a 10,000 pound loud on there. but that shouldn't be a problem for these trucks. aren't they all 1 ton trucks?
@@ElectronicsForFun They say the total weight is 11,500 lbs at the beginning. 0:08 The trucks are all 2500 or 3500 rigs and they shouldn't have an issue with way more than that trailer.

This test should yield 3 times the points of the other tests. If you have a truck, you oughta be able to drive it.

cut my teeth with a dodge 3500 and 30ft gooseneck. back that 500m through the parking lot of a home depot parking lot hahah. honestly some of the best turning radius of a 1 ton that I have driven since.
Trooper time: assuming the video is cut together with proper timing, it looked like the trooper made it in about 3 minutes 8 seconds with 5 cones that I saw for a total of just under 4 minutes. Not the worst run, but not too terrible for obviously not taking it very seriously.
The state troopers were over gvwr they might want to fix them selves 😂 LoL jm but great video mt
I understand the need to change the course, but this one was too tight in many spots, it was much more fun to watch people at wide open throttle throwing it around the course. I had to watch at 2x speed just to make it through this 5mph course

Yeah it was only out on the champagne colored duramax, most of the trucks must not have even hooked up for lights... glad you got your lighting issue figured out 👍

That trailer will react quick so it’s not easy to back up if you don’t know what your doing. I’m a truck driver and I can tell you from experience that a 53 foot tractor trailer is almost easier to back up then these. But clearly these idiots don’t have a clue how to pull a trailer let alone back one up lol 🤦♂️

I love diesel trucks but I think gassers could do just as good if not beat thesse coal rolling dudes, if you have major skills you can ace this with any pick up truck

My 2017 Ford Super Duty F 250 XLT supercab 6.2 Gasser 385Hp/430TQ would handle all that no sweat! Had it loaded with 7k in cement bags no problems in the bed mind u😉

Exactly! You can see clearly he had already bested everyone by 5-10 seconds just by the time they rolled credits over the top of him, in a little SUV with a quarter the power of these trucks, and about 2 feet narrower messing up the reverse viewing angle!

I wonder if someone with a stock 2.8 Duramax Colorado could destroy this event. Would be way down on power, but extremely nimble with a wheelbase like a Miata compared to these things. Would likely be over the GVWR but it's not on a public road so it doesn't matter. Would also dominate fuel economy challenge... Okay, I'm calling it, troll with a stock Chevy Colorado gets podium finish next year.

nah, hitting anything with a trailer can be devastating. so they wanted to recreate that anxiety with the cones
What finesse? If there was finesse or skill in ANY of these I sure missed it.
At the end of the day all the participants were there with the intentions to finesse this course. Having a 5 second penalty would've shortened the gap between first and last allowing different results whish might have been more exciting?

I cant help it, I would think that a guy with a mildly modified daily driver that knows how to drive would fair pretty good in this competition.
I use to do this with a 915A3 & a 40ft trl. Same system too
I’d really like to say that’s your tax dollars at work, but it’s awesome that the trooper is out having some fun here. He’s just s good at it as the guys in the contest. That’s good PR for law enforcement really.
