You did a great job detailing the Green Tiger Barb. I have two males and three females {I am pretty sure) and just added 5 Albino Barbs. I am guessing the same ratio of males and females but they are much harder to identify. I have a huge plant as a centerpiece and they spend most of their time amongst its leaves. Neither of them mess with my guppies or clown loach. Subscribed!
I love how after you introduced him I had no trouble identifying your problem child for the rest of the video 😂 He is really gorgeous! Green barbs have always been a favorite of mine but I’ve never had enough space to keep them. I love how with these videos you really share your experience with the character and behaviors of the species you’re highlighting, and this video is a perfect example of that!
With regards to temperature I would say yes they are very tolerant but are extremely susceptible to sudden drops, ie during water changes and so it's important to match temps when changing or topping up. Love the show 👍👏👌
Thank you for another excellent and informative video, Lauren. I have a tank with (8) normal, 7 platinum and 3 albino barbs (plus another normal one currently in my hospital tank) . They share the tank with five, pentazona (five barred) barbs and a red tailed black shark. The only real 'hassle' in the tank is the RTBS will sometimes chase one tiger barb for a short period, often shooting across the full length of the tank to do so. The funny thing is, when the targeted barb disappears, the shark will often just hangout with the other barbs for a few minutes then head off scavenging again. A mate who has kept fish for about twenty years, but never had barbs, came round the other day when all the fish were just happily floating about peacefully. He said if he hadn't seen it, he wouldn't have believed it. So, if anyone fancies keeping tiger barbs, pick your tank mates carefully, prepare yourself to experience problems, but also know that you may just end up with a fascinating tank of beautiful and character full fish. Roll on Lauren's next video 😊❤
Funnily enough I used to keep a red finned (rainbow) shark in with my standard tigers and boy did she love chasing them. Never did any harm, just gave them a good workout every now and then 😅
After lots of research and up close assessment I finally decided on green tiger barbs for my tank. Best decision! Such character! Tbf I've decided they are the only fish going into the tank for obvious reasons but that makes them the stars of the show.
speaking of *green fish* though.... i got a wonderkili who is like a neon green and is amazing. that trapdoor mouth and everything is the coolest. and he SO has a whole personality. i had to win his trust even with just feeding. i picked the most chill and less dominant boy (maybe a boy) when i saw them. basically any that weren't THE bully (1-3 were a rukus). and he was mostly trying to ignore them but had to move. anyway rescued him from that and he seems good and happy and hangs near the top as they are supposed to. he also LOL just straight up runs away with sinking wafers meant for the ram (who acts big and tough but mainly chases other fish out of his spot and is pretty damn peaceful). the kili one day swooped down and ran off with his wafer and that thing didn't even fit in his mouth. but he wouldn't put it down!! he swam around with it, dropping it sometimes and grabbing it up again. my poor ram. he's like WTF? so now i put 2 wafers in just in case and also feed mr kili first to minimize his insanity. he'll also eat random bugs if thrown in. once, there was a pesky fly and i was trying to kill it. i thought it escaped the last swat i did with a rag but i didn't hear it. later found it on the floor and decided to see if the kili wanted it since they eat bugs in the wild. ooooomg it was funny. he grabbed that fly, stuffed in his mouth, and couldn't even close it. i was a little worried, tbh. but he just sat with that, working his mouth around and eventually got it down. i LOVE kilifish now, because of him. i'd be into getting one that gets even bigger. he's supposed to be around 4" but you never know. he's SO pretty. there is a little band of a blush peach color on his round tail on the edge. and his eyes have that same iridescent green color. he's like a living highlighter marker. : ]
Were you able to raise the fry? Mine actually started breeding in the tank shortly after filming that vid, so I’ve transferred some eggs to a fry tank 😀
@@tinymenagerie Not really, I tried the marble method for protecting the eggs. They only survived about a month and then died off within a few days. Best of luck with yours!
i'm so glad you covered these guys. i really enjoy the way you do a species video, with all sorts of footage that isn't repetitive. i just subbed. haven't been though all the vids but in case you haven't yet, i'd love any congo tetra vids, any of the blue tetra species (or blue sheen. like the kerri tetras) or any kind of puffer. :). your tanks are really cool looking. as you talked about the aggression, for the first time in my neons tank, i noticed some bully stuff going on. it's summer so maybe they are feeling breeding/territorial? i'd LOVE if they bred. idk why i'm sort of obsessed with standard neons but i loved them since i was a kid and finally have a neon-only tank.
@@gayefanner731 most schooling fish vary widely in temperament, although an aggressive white cloud is really rare IME. For reference, ive had maybe 1 in 20 minnows ever chase much at all and only once was it another species of fish, and to make a note about how strange fish behavior is, ive had cories chase my 3x larger black ruby barbs (similar to tiger barbs, but a little smaller) across a tank. I would always make sure to recognize potential aggression issues in literally any fish or invertebrate, but do be sure that a lot of this is up to chance. There exists a cherry shrimp out there thatll bully your fish to death, it just might be rarer than one in a million, as compared to your average mbuna cichlid thats probably 9 in 10
I know. I got them from a pet store. Way too many in a small tank and they’ve battered each other in territorial fights. So I did that thing you should never do and bought a batch because I felt sorry for them 🫠. Still, they should recover, hopefully.
@@tinymenagerie Hopefully. I thought it was from the tigers, but I’m glad it wasn’t. Bought a group of rainbows out of pity; turns out they had a disease so rare, my video will be the first to dissect it
I have a similar red tailed shark who LOVES chasing any and all varieties of tigers. Doesn’t do any, just gives chase. So should be fine as long as your tank is large enough for two sharks.
i've always loved the green ones. and recently saw ones that were striped but with green. (not so keen on the standard ones, for some reason. but the green stripe variant? :D )
Best looking tiger barb variety

Thank you for your treatment in your videos of various barb varieties, they tend to be a neglected group and great fun.

What a lovely story on your green tiger barbs 😂😂.

Thank you for a lovely video. We just picked some up today! ❤
Great video! I have Standard, Green and Emerald Tiger Barbs and I have a beautiful green "jerk" as well, but he manageable in my school of 12.
These are my all time favorite fish, even was the logo of my previous business. I got to breed them once too.

Lovely fish, although prefer five banded barbs, all thanks to your species profile videos of course 👍
Nice vijeo...
They sound like my white cloud minnows
Oh no! I was planning to have a minnow/ shrimp tank in the very near future! 🤷🏼♀️

Thanku for responding, I feel positive again , God bless you 🙏✝️. ✌️🇷🇺☮️🇺🇦✌️. 🙋♀️🤍🇮🇱✌️

I have (2) 5 1/2 gallon tanks that I moved my bettas from. What would be good for these two tanks
I bought some last year they were a nightmare. Never again.
Why did you have a hard time? They won't cause issues as long as you keep a small school of 6
@@ChrisCkarke i had 6. You tell me.
Definately they are bullies
stunning fish, sadly due to the aggression, not for me
I love Tiger Barbs!!! 🤍💚 Very misununderstood Fish!! (As long as you do your research, everything should be fine!)
