    There’s no need for a virtual race for this one, in 2020 F1 put on a display in Abu Dhabi, with Alonso driving the 2005 championship-winning car, the Renault R25 V10, very similar to the F2004, in fact the F2004 did a couple of races during the 2005 championship before being replaced. On that day, with the wrong tyres, with an aerodynamic and suspension set-up for another circuit and with the “wrong” fuel, Alonso got into a car he hadn’t driven for 15 years, did a couple of laps and set a time better than the fastest lap of the Sunday race. That sound alone gives those cars an extra 25hp.

    I guess the heavier Mercedes is at a disadvantage in corner entry, corner exit, and acceleration. Being larger it also creates more drag. Having more aero devices it also adds even more drag. Without DRS activation it could not reduce drag.
    Just shows you why the V-10 era of the late 90s early 2000s was such an effective F1 car. Perhaps the peak of it being a speed machine. It did not need KERS nor a Hybrid system all of which adds weight penalties.

    I agree with taking away DRS (somewhat) but removing ERS is essentially disabling the W11.
    Yes it saves 40KG, but that's not worth the loss of 160hp as well as all that extra torque you get from the ERS.
    I don’t get why you're trying to "balance" the cars, rather than comparing the actual cars without disabling one of them.

    why not ERS? DRS i agree with as it's a overtaking aid but ERS is part of the hybrid system - what the car was designed with.

    • @f1virtualfilms
      @f1virtualfilms  23 дня назад

      With ERS the car would have 1030HP and without it it has approximately 870HP and also less weight. This is close to the F2004 numbers for a fairer dispute.

    The thing is the Ferrari is lighter, narrower, shorter and more nimble and then add in a V10 Engine. Where as the current F1 Cars are over 200KG Heavier, have ev technology that adds to the weight, V6 Engine, wider and longer car and is less nimble in the slow corners alongside having heavier and wider tyres and wheels on.

    I’d be curious to see the same test at a high downforce track. Outright speed always wins at Monza & the W11 has way too much drag compared to the F2004 to have any chance of winning that battle.

    Actually, the Williams BMW in the hands of Juan Pablo Montoya holds the lap record at Monza with a lap time of 1.19.52 seconds and Ruben’s Barrichello holds the Race Lap Record of 1.21.46 in the Ferrari F2004.

    People are getting the wrong message from this video. You can remove half the cylinders and replace with a turbo, and the Merc f1 car would win in an actual race. Why? Bc the f2004 would actually need to refuel and would break down several times over the course of the season, while the turbo hybrid wouldn’t. Anyone can go in a straight line, look at how much ground the new car makes up in the corners it’s like another formula

    At high speed low downforce circuits, the Ferrari is better. However, the merc absolutely wins at the other circuits. Much more downforce and speed it can carry through the corners

  • @DonLee1980
    @DonLee1980 22 дня назад

    since this is all hypothetical, you should make a race where the F2004 carries 200kg of fuel to start a race, while the W11 carries 100kg, and run a proper simulation of a full race. The W11's biggest handicap is it being a bigger car to carry all the fuel for a single race, as well as all the heavy hybrid bits. It's bonus is being energy efficient and powerful despite using only half as much fuel as the 2004. 1 lap races will essentuate the w11 weakness, and give everything in favor of the f2004, which could refuel mid-race and also use as much fuel as it liked. Another possible race is remove the hybrid system of the w11, but allow it to use 2x as much fuel.

    Even with DRS and ERS the Mercedes would have lost vs the F2004 if the Ferrari had the current slicks. The 2004 cars had full power all the time, the current cars need to gather energy and cannot be deploying the ERS constantly
