      I think he's show that similar times from both the years vary in particular ways, showing for example the cornering speed differences.

    Pre 2022 cars were just monsters. I think Bottas did a 13 around here in 2020.

      @@saaber95More responsive suspension also, Ground effect needs stiff suspension to maximize balance but loses alot on slower corners (+weight)

      Give it a but more time and these cars will break 2021 records. Remember that 2021 cars came out of those 2014 ones. See where 2022 lap times were and where they are now. Its just half a second. They will improve

    Only 2 years and we are almost back to 2021 performance. The engineers behind F1 are just incredible. No matter how much regulations try to slow these cars down they still find ways to just overcome any obstacle

      The track conditions were better in 2024 and there were softer tires. But they are getting closer. I think by 2025 they will be on par if not faster

    TBH, 2021 regs was the 5th year of large tires and high downforce cars, while 2024 is the 3rd year of a 'general freeze' reg

    I dont think the weight and nimbleness of the 2024 cars is the issue in low/medium. Its their lack of mechanical grip due to their lack of compliance.
    Because they run so low to the ground, they have to be extremely firmly sprung/damped, which is detrimental to your mechanical grip, because it lacks compliance. Especially on a bumpy track. Which is why newey designed the suspension himself on the RB20...

      Its the predominant grip in low speed corners.

      it’s a great factor in proving why these 2024 cars couldn’t gain time on the super fast corners on this circuit which they usually go on other circuits. bumpy af
      generally these cars are heavier and have lower grip on slow corners.

      Being longer and heavier will always be part of the issue. Suggesting that it isn’t is a bit silly. In reality it is a mix of all these things.

    F1 from about 2017-2021 saw the most technological advanced cars in its history. If costs weren't so much of an issue who knows how fast they could of got. And with the currrent track of car regulations F1 are on now, I think 2021 will remain peak for F1 car performance.

      Merc had a stable rear, as Ham needs. RBR is much more difficult to drive. 👍👍

      @@afallenworld1581 Nah, the RBR is the trickiest car to drive. See the ALB interview and ask Checo. The RBR is pointy as hell, with a lose rear, every true F1 fan is aware of that.

    I have one question regarding the sound: The 2021 Merc sounds way different to the 2024 Merc (higher pitched) but the PU is basically the same (except for E10 in 2024).

      @@josephgreen6531With Jeddah it’s not quite a direct comparison as they’ve opened the walls up in certain corners in 2024 compared to 2021 improving sightlines and apex speed
      The GE cars do have good high corner performance though

    Someone tell me how softer tyres, higher track temps, with a tow from Hulkenberg even is a worse condition.
    In my head, this is a perfectly better condition.

      higher track temps is worse. softer tyres may run out quicker.

      all of those are better condition except higher track temps because high temps will make the tyres overheat faster (they usually starts to overheat at the end of the lap) cooler track temps allows the tyres to stay within their operating temps much longer thus make the laptimes faster

      As i understand, these tyres could last around 15 laps before a noticeable dip in pace. So doesn't that mean the higher track temps would even help break in the tyres to their optimal operating range?

    I can only say, that F1 never needed those rule changes in my opinion, at least. Besides they keep adding new, unwanted aspects and take away loved and needed features. (or think about it)Yes they wan't to save money and be more sustainable. On the other hand, they keep building new tracks - and correct me if im wrong, but this isn't naturally too eniromentally friendly.
    Last but not least, it's supposed to be the pinnacle of motorsport and I really have to say, they're losing that place.

    Ground effect is so stupid. High speed corners being even faster makes close racing more difficult and dangerous while in slow corners cars behave like cows which again makes it boring. They have so much time to think about these changes every few seasons and somehow they only succeed in making F1 worse since like 2014...

      And they absolutely fall apart on bumpy tracks. And they're too wide to allow for side-by-side racing.
      They either need to drive different tracks that are twice as wide, or change the cars.

Cars must be so big to protect drivers at these speeds, which is understandable but now on some tracks where you could have 3 wide racing before, 2 cars barely fit side by side.

    Just goes to show you how horrible F1 cars have come to be. Crashy only got this time with a massive tow from Hulky. Talk about going a$$-backwards into the future. It isn't enjoyable to watch, far from it - everything about F1 just gets worse, and worse, and worse...it's pure garbage now.
