  • Today we look at the evolution of The Autodromo Internazionale Enzo e Dino Ferrari, better known as Imola, which F1 officially started racing on from 1980 when the circuit held the Italian GP. This later became the San Marino GP from 1981-2006 and now the modern day of the Emilia Romagna GP so let's see how far this circuit has came since it opened in 1953 all the way to 2023. Enjoy!

I think they should think of a more efficient barrier or a more abrasive type of 'sand' to slow down the cars in the tamburello, but I think it's radical to end the challenge of the track by turning it into a chicane

Yes, definitely. Senna probably would've been saved by HALO alone. And with SAFER barriers right at the edge of the track like on oval circuits (plus the improved safety of the cars and HANS), going of at Villeneuve shouldn't be that much of a concern either.
Don't get me wrong, it would still be a nasty crash, but nothing you couldn't encounter at any time on tracks like Baku or Jeddah as well.

I'd rather go for SAFER barriers and put them directly at the edge of the track (at least for Villeneuve, Tamburello is debatable because of the risk of cars bouncing back onto the racing line, combined with the fact it's a blind corner). If you crash there, it's like an IndyCar oval crash. The track should be prepped up accordingly.

Most boring non street circuit on the calendar, tired of seeing DRS being the only zone good for overtaking, even though it's better that 2005 without the last chicane, without DRS you can't overtake. Even Mugello is better than this not to mention Estoril.
1994ish layout is a thing that can happen safely in 2023, maybe even cut variante alta so the DRS zone can be before Tosa 1.

When I used to play “Names, cities, things” and the letter I was drawn, no one knew any city with the letter “I” except me. Those were the years in which la Rossa won every race and when someone was good at driving he was nicknamed “Schumi”🥲🥲🏎️
