@@Abell85Studios That's not a bad idea at all! I know there's some DC blocking features in VCV Rack which might extend to the Audio 8 or Audio 16 input channels, so you might be able to fumble that functionality in VCV...
Thanks arturia! That's all I wanted for years now. A bunch of converters with no shenanigans, with good prizing, to get more synth into the daw. That is amazing!
I like that they added WordClock inputs, so one doesn't have to sync the audio interface to the ADAT but the other way around. Which is what I would recommend to everyone with a good interface, btw.
If not using WordClock for synchronization, but ADAT itself, is a single cable sufficient for this? No matter which direction and which device takes the master clock role?
Such a great idea for a synth focused studio that doesn't need 8 XLR inputs OR loads of outputs. 16 rig and a couple of x8 In's is a powerful setup. More holes to fill.......
This is brilliant. I can now keep my digiface usb on my small rig and have professional ins and outs. I was going to sell the digiface and try to buy a babyface pro. But for cheaper I can have 8 ins/outs.
I have a Behringer ULTRAGAIN DIGITAL ADA8200, cheaper but does the same job. I use it with a Scarlett 18i8 in a similar manner to give me 8 additional inputs.
These are great, provided on a PC you don’t need more than 32 inputs. I wish more manufacturers would support network protocols like AVB. This allows me to get 96 simultaneous inputs at 48khz using MOTU interfaces.
The Audient Evo SP8 is effectively both these units in one device for half the price. Maybe the conversion isn’t as good but definitely not 100% worse.
I am not getting it. What's the benefit of getting these two boxes over the Audient SP8 for half the price? The Audient SP8 has mic preamps and the option to gain input signal, which is missing here. I am pretty sure the AD/DA conversion is at least on the same level.
Had Arturia come out with these (and the AudioFuse 16Rig) earlier, I might actually have seriously considered them. Instead I went with a MOTU 24Ai, and recently acquired another one (still on its way). For one thing, you get an IEC C14 plug, and you get 48 inputs in 2U. The special DB25-to-TRS snakes are a pain, though, and rather pricey.
@@xfghffhfg True, but I just have a lot of synth rack modules. They also have alternative inputs, not quite sure what the name is, but they're green. DB25 is more secure, though.
The pricing is ok, but for ADAT expansion Audient's SP8 is much better value. 8 line outs, 8 line or mic inputs with decent preamps, auto gain, and proper metering of levels for way less than the price of these two units.
Fair point, but for us synth heads who need extra ins but not outs, an X8 In @ $350 is $170 cheaper than the S8. Money which you can put towards the 2nd X8 you will need down the road. 😁 Bottom line, it’s nice to have different options to better match our different studio needs.
Yeah the SP8's flaw is it sacrifices valuable I/O to mic inputs, that's not what I want.. and to make it worse the mic inputs are on the front. I want all the I/O so I can cable manage my studio better.
@@TheExtremenarcissist yep, but I don't need them to be mics.. the just need them to be line and on the back.. it's two wasted channels to me because I want neat cables.
I have analog synths with high level output and other have lower output levels. I don't see any sense to have no gain on the input module, to get a decent level in the DAW. But for what are the buttons on the input module?
Its standard for ADAT expansions, unless you look for ones with pre-amps. you may be running through a desk so can add the level there. The buttons are for pad and stereo link.
Different things really. These are designed as expansions, so you can add 8, whereas the Ferrofish is 16x16 but costs more in total (less per i/o). But there's defo lots of choice.
ferrofish don't use higher quality converters chip, on paper they are lower quality but i doubt this is audible. last time i checked they manufactured in germany and build is very high quality.
@@Formal-DeHyde it only works with units that have no internal termination or switchable termination, though. The X8 has a switch. So basically you disable (-> Hi-Z) termination on every device but the last one in the chain, which must be set to 75 Ohm termination.

Don't understand the point of 2 separate boxes. Should have just made it a rack mountable 8 in x 8 out ADAT expansion unit with bnc clock in & out. I would have jumped on it. No doubt anyone purchasing either one of these boxes will end up purchasing the other together or later down the road. So why not just build one expansion unit with ins and outs? Ferrofish and Black Lion are two good examples of cost effective expansions all in one.
adat is runing strong for more than 30 years so its more a product of compatibility with other audio interfaces. until power will be wireless too no need for wireless audio
Both of these are so useful!!! Esp the X8 Out with DC coupled outs!
Forgot to mention the DC couple which is extremely handy 🤦
But I guess no DC coupled ins for the other or?
@@Abell85Studios correct, just DC coupled outs - are you thinking of sampling modulation signals to control software? Interesting idea if so

too bad the IN version don't have adat input so you can synth it from the adat, many audio interfaces don't have bnc clock output

@@cesarsjogren However there is no optical out on the Scarlett 18i8, unlike the Audiofuse 16Rig sadly.

I'll have to do something on the DC coupled outputs.. 8 levels of control for your eurorack.
