What a Difference 5 Years Makes! Margaret's New Beauty Regime and Makeup Look

- Things definitely have changed over the past 5 years. I have certainly changed in many ways on a personal level. We watch ourselves age and are sometimes astonished by the changes. In my case, the changes are amplified since I have recorded over 2000 videos for Sixty and Me.
I have recorded hundreds of videos that trace my growth on many levels and they provide a great insight into how my face, body, and mindset have changed. For this video, I offer an observation of how my makeup and application have changed. I can't believe how different the techniques, products, and processes are.
In the video, I discuss the changes I have made to my skincare, hair, and makeup. This is a new kind of personal video for me and hopes you enjoy it in the spirit it is offered.

I have stopped this video half way through and I want to tell you, you have found " your look". You honestly look softer, prettier and more lovely than you did a few years ago when I started watching you. You always looked great, but your hair and the creme make up is so flattering on you. I am 64 and as I have aged, I have changed the way I do my makeup and also changed my hair color. I believe no matter what age….we can look our best!

I use several different foundations, but surprisingly, my favorite is Wet n Wild photo focus dewy. It’s quite inexpensive, but does such a nice lumi job. Also. Like cream blush. I have a Miss A cream blush that is good. I’ve never thought concealers were for wrinkles, but to hide dark spots etc.
It seems that the more knowledgeable we become about makeup, the better we look. I’ve noticed that several women I follow are so much prettier and look more naturally enhanced now that they did when they started their RUclips journey. I’m 68, and I totally agree that less is more, creams and a more moisturized, glowy look is much more attractive than powder. Today I realized I don’t like eyeliner as much as I used to, except for a smudged-out softer brown pencil type. I also don’t care too much for primers. Those insights come with time and trial and error. You are a lovely lady and I appreciate all the work you have done for women my age over these last five years! Hello Margaret, I loved the video and all of your recommendations. I am 62 yrs young and have found that my skin also is dry. I've found that the L'Oreal foundation True Match is wonderful and have stayed away from the powders as well. Oh and by the way your eyebrows look amazing! I've been following you and you've always commented about them. Don't mess with what you have, they are perfect. They are you. As an artist and photographer I have always looked for natural. My Dad always said, There is beauty everywhere you just have to look around. Even in us natural is beautiful, you always want to stay as natural as possible and your makeup is beautiful. Soft, radiant and natural. Hope your holidays were wonderful.
I have been watching make up tutorials for some time. I’m so happy to have found you! All the others were so much younger than me, I am 75. I watched you for the first time a few weeks ago and I feel so much better about myself! It’s ok to have wrinkles and lines and I don’t have to try to hide them. I am enjoying using less makeup and enjoying my own skin, which isn’t so bad, if I do say so myself!

Hello Karen from Singapore. I just turn 70 years in October and being a man , I don’t do cosmetics and in fact I have completed 2 years without washing my face with anything other than water and a good scrub with a hand towel. That’s because I have an oily face ( even at 70) , so I count it as a blessing whereas most septuagenarians have dry skin . So moisturise if needed . The other help I get is the high humidity in the tropics ( near 80% all year round ) .
I absolutely agree that you look softer and more natural compared to five years ago. You have done a marvelous job applying these changes that really enhance your appearance in a subtle way. As a woman who struggles with aging, I greatly appreciate your flexibility and acceptance of the natural aging process and admire the support and motivation you offer other women. Thank you for all you do. P.S. I have been using "It Cosmetics" CC Cream for several years and it continues to work for my aging skin. I love it.

Wonderful observations Margaret. You must be so pleased that today you look better than 2016. I too am working on all the cream products. Powder finish does not do me any favours even though influencers show that step all the time. Maybe just in the T zone where I get shiny is worthwhile. I tried putting on setting powder under the eyes and I had to take it off because the powder emphasized more wrinkles than I knew I had. It is amazing that you look younger today than when I began watching several years ago. The softer color of your hair and the shorter cut that allows movement made such a difference. I am excited about comparing the "you" in five years to the you now. If the pattern holds, you will be in your mid sixties.

I think you keep getting lovelier all the time. I agree with using creme eyeshadow as we age. No matter what kind of powder I use, I feel it looks too dry. I find that using eye shadow wet, for eyeliner, instead of pencil has been an improvement for me. I think I'm wearing a little more make-up than I use to, but in a softer way.

I love all of the positive changes you’ve made in your softer look. Very becoming. I just turned 51 and I have stopped using foundation altogether. For me, I have found that the makeup was settling in my smile lines and actually accentuating them..not a good look!😂 I too have changed everything to a softer look as you have. I have also discovered that on me less eye makeup looks better as well. Thank you for doing these videos! I have enjoyed you for years!

Only just found this video Margaret. It is really helpful. My skin at 69 is definately not the same. I bought a multi coloured cheap eyeshadow powder palette to experiment with what colour/s suit my (green) eyes now. It was fun to play with and I've homed it down to 3 colours so this will help me when I wish to buy a good quality cream eyeshadow colour. I'm stuck now on lipsticks, there is such a choice. I'll have to buy a cheap 'tester' set of colours to experiment with. Also noted the 'radiant' products which I need to get onto now. Thanks again for your advice.

I too like the dewy, glowing look. Hallmarks of youth, of many species, include lustrous hair, bright eyes, whitish teeth, soft dewy skin with a blush of color.

What a super idea for a video - even though my skin is not especially dry like you I have moved more towards cream products - I find they are overall kinder. It looks as though your skin has a more even tone than mine; I am struggling to find a foundation that gives good, even coverage but is not too heavy and ‘cakey’

Hi Maria - I use Loreal Age Perfect in the shade 9.13. It is a hard specific shade to find in shops - you may have to order it from a European site but most now ship internationally. The only other thing I used which i mentioned in the video are Olaplex products - so expensive but you use very little every time you wash your hair. Hope that helps. x

One thing I think is really important for older women (and everyone, really) is to keep trying products that work better and feel better as our faces and skin change. I go through phases of dissatisfaction with certain elements of how I look and keep trying to find a way to find a better way to treat that part of myself. This video is an excellent reminder of staying attentive and evolving over time to maintain beauty and a radiant spirit.
You look beautiful Margaret. I’m really loving cream everything now at 57, I love the cream eyeshadows also. I’m looking for a hydrating moisturizer to put on before my makeup that soaks into my skin, I’m very dry. Always enjoy your lovely videos.💕💕💕
Hi Margaret. You look beautiful and softer with your product changes. When the pandemic started, I decided to let my grey grow in. So glad I did. The color is a salt and pepper. Kind of like it was weaved. My complexion took well to it. I changed the colors I was using to softer shades. Really worked.
Hi Margaret you always look so beautiful , your a wonderful make up artist! I have changed my make up over the years too! I use a little lighter lipstick and a pretty glosser, also I like to put aloevera gel on my face , also for a cream bee magic for a base then I apply a light natural make up it looks wonderful ! I'm 72 and on a good day can actually look 50! But some days as we know , we can look our age! Lol so moral of the story have fun with make up , try different products! Thank you for your videos ! Thank you, Margaret! Taking biotin didn't help me, unfortunately. My hair has thinned out quite a bit; I had hope, but, I saw no difference. The changes you've made have been subtle, yet very effective. Many changes and tweaks have to be made as we age. I love that, "embrace what I have" mantra. Keep up the good work! 🙂 Rosemarie 💖

@@sixtyandme Anyone with a thyroid illness needs to be careful with Biotin. Its known to skew the results of blood tests for thyroid function and you can end up with a false result and the wrong dose of medication.

I stopped powder about 3 yrs ago and am 62 now. However for a more set finished look which is not drying or anything, I found a "blurring powder" and its very nice.

I like the color of your hair now better-pretty! I also like this haircut better. I really, really prefer your brows this way. So much more natural! I have only been wearing make-up (except teens thru 30) only this last year and I'm constantly rearranging how I wear it. I have decided that just using blonde brow gel is all I like there and that wearing foundation/bb cream is pointless (my skin is fairly good although sensitive and I got used to my freckles by 10). I'm still trying to wear as little concealer as possible (not a lot of lines - probably didn't smile enough - but very dark circles since I was little) and the end/side of my nose shows redness at the drop of a hat so I use concealer there rather than foundation.I wear glasses plus super fair so only eye makeup has to be brown mascara. Now I need to focus on blush (cream or powder-have normal/dry skin) and lipstick. Definitely a minimalist/natural look and less is more!

I think my biggest change is due to the pandemic more than aging. I only use concealer under my eyes and just a light dusting of powder all over to blend. My skin is still oily so I can still wear powder. Other than that I would say the products are the same. Of course this may change over time. ❤
