I love decluttering. But I don’t rush to get rid of it all, I store it for one more season to make sure that I really don’t want it. I have dipped back into it, so pleased I still had it!
Greetings from New York! I am doing well with decluttering but doing it slowly. I drawer at a time. Also, not purchasing much lately. I will need to refresh some Fall/Winter clothing but I promise not to hang on to the old/worn clothing as well. My husband has the right idea. If he buys a new shirt, one or two old shirts have to go. Thank you for the great content and have a wonderful day. 💝
I am always clearing out my wardrobes as I started to sew in lockdown & have made loads of new clothes. I have finally found my style & can make the clothes in the fabrics I love, so I have got rid of a lot of my older clothes. If I have a piece I still like but not the fabric, I use it as a pattern to make another. I know I have too many clothes now lol but I am branching out making other things like duvet covers. I discovered sewing in lock down & I love it.
Ok, it's after 10 p.m., and I'm in bed watching this, but this video has me motivated to start right now, so I'm headed to my closet to at least get a good start on it!
Thanks for the video…love all your videos. My problem with clothes is my fantasy self. I love knit dresses. They are so comfortable, especially in the summer. But my lifestyle is definitely not the lifestyle for a dress. So I have to tell myself it’s time to let the ones I have collected go.
Hi Margaret, the cream blouse and necklace are Splendid on You! I got through summer without ever getting out my spring/summer clothes - so, I will be going through them and my closet and de-cluttering, Thank YOU! :) Be Blessed.
I recently had a big clear out of clothes, shoes, costume jewellery etc and handed it in to a favourite charity shop of mine. I felt a lightness in my step as I left knowing that the items would be sold at reasonable prices and the people buying would enjoy their purchase. A BIG plus is that the charity benefits also. Win, win as far as I'm concerned.
Yes you do look lovely in your pretty white top and pearls! I have given away a lot of clothes, purses and jewelry through the years. I had purchased a lot of things through the years just because I liked them. Thinking of someone else getting pleasure out of buying them at a charity or thrift shop brings me joy. We have to be realistic and know that we,like you said will never use a lot of our unused items but we need to realize someone else will enjoy them. I guess it’s the circle of life. Our lives change as we get older and acceptance gives us time to enjoy other things in life….like hobbies! Thank you!
✨💖✨Sigh, I have a lovely collection of ballet flats. I absolutely love every pair of them, and I wore them and wore them, though they remain in incredible condition. But the arthritis in my feet has gotten to the point that I need padding and arch support. They are in the back of the closet, stored in shoe boxes. They will be donated next. Now, if I love the fabric of something, I’ll make a scarf out of it. Scarves are my mainstay. I still have two that belonged to my father, and I always get compliments on them. They are older than me. I still have a beautiful wool scarf I made from a skirt that just looked frumpy on. Love the idea of face masks. Please note that when you offer clothing you no longer wear to friends, relatives or colleagues, be mindful of how you present those clothes. I used to weigh 130lbs more than I do now. I was working and I had beautiful clothes, wool blazers, silk blazers, linen suits, silk shirts. I might have been a larger size, but that didn’t mean I didn’t enjoy beautiful, well made clothes. I was anything but frumpy and dumpy. My former daughter-in-law was lamenting that she had nothing to wear in her size because of her weight, so I asked her if she would like to look at the clothes I planned to donate. Boy, did my son get an earful over that. I wish I had donated them to a worthy charity; it broke my heart to learn that she threw them all out.
Its so inspiring to have a shelf, cupboard or storage area which is not really required, it is empty, and, like you, Margaret, it gives me a type of joy, and makes more space for other opportunities in my life. I can recommend to us all, to just make space, to grow and expand your thoughts and life. Thanks to our blogger and to you Margaret.
Oh Margaret, you are speaking to me today. I am quite good with purging clothes. Pretty much if I didn’t wear it last 2 seasons, donated. But when you spoke of gifts….DING! We are often gracious in receiving a gift of jewelry or a bag that we would never buy for ourselves, and then it never gets used. Thank you for reminding me that it’s ok to let it go. Next project is going to be high end bags & unworn jewelry. Be well lovely lady and enjoy the weekend. Thank you for your calm and encouraging voice in an ever-growing community.
Let things of doubtful usefulness go find their real owner. The world is full of clothes and stuff. You can always get a replacement! Thanks another useful reminder! I hated my grey sandals and just painted blue patterns on them. They don't even match but I enjoy them now. If the paint wears off I just add more.
Lovely Margaret. Timely as I am doing another 'sweep' of my wardrobe and need to address the 'guilt' items. When I downsized my home 3 years ago, I had a huge declutter. There is only me most of the time now ~ why did I need 25 dinner plates etc.! I donated the equivalent of 7 tea-chests of quality items to Age UK and it was such a relief. The wardrobe has been addressed every few months but some of the 'fantasy me' items, sentimental items and expensive mistakes have been harder to release. Yet they are a waste by remaining in the back of the wardrobe. Another issue is the 'just in case'. I now have a very modest income but you are so right about all of this. Letting go here in the UK...🤞
Timely topic. I've been thinking about purging my wardrobe. Right now am looking at a dress i loved when I bought it seven years ago, but my lifestyle has changed. Haven't worn it in years and it probably doesn't even fit any more. It's got to find a new home! Collections. I've got scarves but I never wear them. I've got to be brutal about my decisions.
It's true for me that decluttering clears my mind and it's a nice way of recycling. I change my mind from year to year about what I like to wear but I don't spend a lot of money on clothing. I go to resale shops, especially a christian one in my area. It's so cheap! Occasionally I buy something new but it has to be a good price. I did change sizes in pants when I lost weight from the "menopausal and cancer hysterectomy years." But it was just one size difference. However, I did have to replace my pants and jeans. And retiring I needed more clothing as well. I have been guilty of buying multiples of the same thing.! It was so often a mistake. I guess I just felt more secure having more of something I usually liked and wore a lot. Thanks for your video.
Oh Margaret, I laughed out loud when you told about turning your dress into a skirt, and then a mask! We only really wear what we like anyway, so why not donate the other stuff to someone who will love it, right? It’s a process I’m going through right now. What about sentimental family items though? Like my mother’s wedding dress, or christening gowns? Do you have anything like that? Mine just sit in the cedar chest. Maybe you could talk about that next. 💖💖
It has helped me to take pictures of items that I donate and so I have the memory but not the item, like a bassinet, stuffed animals, etc. I do have some keepsakes in a momento box though. Some are what I do want to keep.
Hello Margaret Great to hear from you as usual, your posts don't go unnoticed. I've had my head tied up too much to take a minute to respond ! Life has been a whirl wind of CRAZY !!!!!! I LOVE YOUR POSTINGS ( EVERY ONE OF THEM. ) THIS SUBJECT IS PERFECT TIMING FOR ME. THANK YOU DEAR Denise in Ohio 🇺🇸 P.S. I wish you were my neighbor :)
Love your channel so much Margaret, you have such a kind and gentle manner. I've been decluttering a lot lately and whilst it's hard doing the initial cull, it's so satisfying to finally free myself from the items that I loved but never looked right on and also the guilty items that I struggled to remove because they were either a gift or pricier purchase. I now try and do the 'one item in, one item out' approach... not always successful but much better than I was. I also have a drawer full of DIY/gardening/ bleaching clothes but they do come in handy. Your top looks lovely on you.
Thank you, Margaret. This video is very inspiring! My issue is that I save decluttering for the winter....thinking it's best to do that when it's too cold outside to go places or do anything else. Problem is, when winter rolls around, there are always other things that pop up, such as preparation for upcoming holidays...so it never gets begun, much less done! This year will be different. I am starting today! 😊
It appears I do the same thing! So, how's the decluttering going for you ? I'm trying to get motivated to tackle my own stuff. My husband and I did a ton of purging stuff last spring/summer when we decided to sell our home and move. The housing market went south, and so did my enthusiasm for decluttering. I'm trying to get motivated again😝
Thank you for this video! I decluttered a lot but right, some pieces i couldn't let go.... After this video i will look again in some boxes and take things out. I must find the right place to give it away. In the last months I gave things to an agyptian lady who sells vintage and used things on the flee market in Paris. So I enjoyed bringing stuff to her and she can earn some money with it. Much love and thank you Margret
Possessions are responsibilities and can be burdens. But I sure am attached to them!! Slowly working towards minimalism and, like you, I like thinking of someone else enjoying what once gave me pleasure.
I so need to do this and just can’t seem to get it done. I’m not sure if I’m afraid to get rid of something and I’ll regret it or what? And it’s not just clothes, it’s books, furniture, decorations, dishes. Ah well I’ll get there.
I find that when I need a dress for a special occasion, I can often go to the back of my closet and find something appropriate and don't need to buy another one. I don't live in one room, of course. And I don't rent a storage unit. Circumstances differ. And sometimes you become a different size.
I love to shop my closet as I forget about some of my beloved favs! Tops, jeans that didn't fit- now do... Things so out of style 15 yrs ago that are now hot for this fall...Brown and tan color story
I am busy trying to declutter and I have sold a number of items on Poshmark. I have some lovely outfits that I wore once for an occasion and never wanted to wear it again. No guilt or regrets and I get some money back (sometimes more than I paid for some items). Items that don't sell, I give away to aid a cause that I support and I feel good.
Actually, I will continue to buy doubles. Especially shoes. It never fails that if I love a pair of shoes, they will be discontinued when I need to replace them. Companies no longer continue to carry certain classic styles. They seem to change every year just for the sake of change.
Guilty 🙋♀️ I’m the queen of multiples 🙈🙈we had a holiday home for a while and I ended up with two of many many things - I promise you I’ll rod myself of the doubles this coming week 😚😚
I love the humour you bring to things! I will ponder more on how to lighten my heart and open the door to other things with letting go. Having a plan for a capsule wardrobe I have found helpful.
Great topic, Margaret! You let us k lovely today. I need to really declutter, especially clothing, and, put together a coherent, useful wardrobe. I'm terrible about this. I get focused and psyched, but, I don't carry it through well. I'm not a shoe person either..well, not anymore, now that I can't wear heels. I'm not a fashionista; I'm pretty simple. I need to get on this asap! TFS; stay safe and well. Rosemarie 💖
Oh My, I feel like you've been peeking in my overstuffed closet, lol. Well, I could certainly relate to most of your points. Thanks for the encouragement. :)
Hi Margaret , I declutter constantly, the Salvation Army really can distribute our clothes we no longer wear , here in England there are places you can put them without even going in charity shop . They do such good work . Thanks for a video on something so important 🥰
Hello Margaret, I can relate. I just bought a pair of glasses that I will never wear. I have a lovely red retro coat that I can't part with. I have never worn it. It has been in my wardrobe for over 10 years.
I suppose it would be easy to donate my husbands suits and other clothes - not that he had much, but he had clothes obviously. But, he's not longer with us here, so no point taking up space. The reality is, it makes more sense for me to tackle the mounds of clothes that I have. I have clothes from 30-40-5- years ago that I will never wear, even if they still look new and still fit me! Sigh. Why does it feel like I am ripping parts of my soul out when I get rid of things?
My mantra has always been "get rid of what you don't want to make room for what you do want " Always worked 😊
Love it! Have a great day:)
Great advice, especially heels and boots, can't even walk in them anymore 🤣🤣🤣 nothing but comfort for this kid now!
Love the white blouse. Looks really nice on you Margaret.

I needed this! I'm in constant declutter mode as I get older and need less. Great tips. Thanks Again!

Hi Margaret, thank you. This inspired me to declutter a Halloween costume 🤪
Listening to this, items of clothing I need to let go of keep popping into my head..
I just love your hair!
Have an infinity scarf made from that dress fabric. 👗

I did declutter this week and it was so liberating.
Enjoyed this video. I think I’m always in a state of decluttering!

Hello Margaret, I can relate. I just bought a pair of glasses that I will never wear. I have a lovely red retro coat that I can't part with. I have never worn it. It has been in my wardrobe for over 10 years.
where do you get the beautiful beads.?
Hi Faye j mostly make them myself using Polaris beads you can purchase online. Some are from travels and markets!
It’s crazy how much we buy! I just went through my makeup drawer and we all need to throw out old makeup.🦋
Lovely white outfit. I still care about my appearance. I am as vain as ever and proud of it. Decluttering constant.
Csn so identify. I have always hated wearing yellow & orange. Not crazy about browns either.
Enjoy you videos very much 😄
Trying to declutter. CDs okay but books and clothes I find v hard.
I really like your necklace. Where can we get one like it?
Declutter for me at the moment is shedding piles of papers.....
I wish I could afford two cashmere sweaters.
Me too😪
P.S. Margaret, sorry for autocorrect. I meant to say, "you look lovely today".
Rosemarie 💖

Don't have shoes anymore just one pair of sandals!!!😅
I don't wear make up. Never did.
I am so guilty of practically everything you have said.
