  • Welcome to my channel this is Doug Machado, I'm a certified BMW technician, been a mechanic since I was 12 years old, I started when I used to live in Brazil where I was born and came to the U.S when I was 17, I worked at mechanic shops in the U.S until turned 21 and worked at BMW dealerships until the age of 28 and I now started my own business. On this channel you'll see modified cars, drift contents/builds, mechanical jobs and tricks, high performance cars upgrades. Please make sure to subscribe if you want to join me on this journey as I grow.
This particular video you guys will see why this notorious bmw N54 engine failed, what caused it and how to prevent it.
Quick tip I can give you N54 heads is to not exceed your oil changes, not only because the oil gets old and lose it's viscosity but because of gasoline contamination from what's left unburned in your cylinder if your running a tune for more power. 5k miles is the max I personally advise for street applications.

i'm impressed in how you took a whole motor out and don't get dirty at all, for me to change brake pads or a oil change i get all dirty lol

One of My spark plug keeps getting fouled it all covered in carbon and sometimes my car jerks under full throttle can it be a leaking injector? No engine codes

it's for sure a fun car, make sure you keep up with your oil changes and also flush the oil cooler once in awhile.

That customer likes to do some stuff himself and that’s one thing he was going to do after we replaced the motor

I recently got the BMS filter replace kit. About 25$ cheaper without metal inserts. They bring engine bay back to life

The e85 dries out what Lil lubrication the index injectors have plus the pvc system is designed to foul up the intake due the low side pull vacuum 😳 more constantly. So yearly cleaning on injector once their 11-12 an carbon cleaning n more frequent oil change(fcp) 5k are the remedy 🤔...my 2 cents

I'm currently in the same situation 4 of my injectors were leaking and 1 stuck open. I then bought index 12s but I noticed a very slight knock at around 4k rpm. I drained my oil and there's copper flakes in it so I'm sure my bearings are shot but I been avoiding the car because I'm not sure if ill be able to save the motor by throwing in new bearings. I think I might get away with it since it doesn't knock at idle only around 4k rpm and the knock is very quite.

Get the rod bearings replaced, make sure you flush the oil cooler (very important), new oil and filter drive it for 200 miles and replaced the oil and filter AGAIN and flush the oil cooler AGAIN, make sure to check if the crankshaft journals aren’t bad when you remove the rod bearing cap before you replace them, that will tell you everything.

@@dougmbmw Thanks for the information I think ill start on it soon hopefully the crank is good. If the plastigage is within spec with the new bearings it should be good right?

@@TTGGReeDY platigauge is to measure bearing clearance, in case you have to resize the crank you would have to check your clearance to new bearings. Now if let’s say there’s no damage to the crank (which I believe there may be) all you would have to do is get a same size bearing typically standard and put it in, remember, the crank does not touch the bearings and it’s not supposed to ever, there’s an oil film in between so there’s no wear unless there’s contact and if there’s contact high chances resizing the crank may be needed.
