This method saves on vacuum pump and oil pump tensioner access seals! I just did my crank hub. I used a precision designed keyed hub. That required drilling. The splined hub is definitely the most budget friendly option, however if there is ever any maintenance that requires chain removal, the hub will be a real challenge. That being said, I like how this video was done. I like how you shoed the vanos timing tool fitting at disassembly, as thats better for finding TDC than the QR code IMHO. Great video sir
And then there’s me who in the process of taking the front main seal out, accidentally knocked the allen key I was using to hold the oil pump chain tensioner back, it shot the piston out which broke the guide rail 😅 had to drop the subframe and pan to replace it all.. fun times! Don’t be like me, use the proper oil pump tensioner hold back..
Looks the same but it’s different, the n20 guides tends to get brittle on some models and break causing a slack on the chain, bmw came out with an extended warranty/recall on those specific model/production date vehicles for replacement with upgraded guides, also take into consideration an inline 6 is a lot more balanced than the 4 cylinders, the N20 needs a balancer to make up for that difference

@@milkdud91 for sure brother I’ll take care of you 💪🏽💪🏽
@@dougmbmwis that price for labor and materials or just labor
So when trying to add power to the s55 it needs a better crank hub, and trans?
No transmission holds 1000nm and is very stout. Crank hub spinns because of rev changes too quickly.
Short perfect video!
Thank you 🙏🏽 hit that subscribe button 😉
Nice video....but what did the replacement hub look like?
The replacement hub is one solid piece
The m3 has the same timing chain setup as the N20 engine?! How come there has been so many n20 timing chain failures?
