Excellent video. Thank you. Since I started to view Tolkien-themed RUclips channels, I've noticed that a lot of people from Nordic countries are drawn to Tolkien's work. Is this because Tolkien was heavily influenced by Nordic mythology, particularly Norse mythology? In the Völsunga saga - the text that also inspired Richard Wagner’s opera, Der Ring des Nibelungen - an all-powerful ring and a broken sword that is reforged are both main features of the story. And some of the character names alone -- like Thor, obviously -- derive from Nordic history.
Thank you as always Jeff :) I am not entirely sure why Nordic people are drawn especially to Tolkien, but it might be that we are drawn to Tolkien of the said reasons. Cool that you know about Ring des Nibelungen! I for my part was just drawn into the universe after watching the movies, then I read the books and was shocked. The books is pure gold.
Yes, if you´re already in to norse mythology it´s very interesting with the all the things in his work that are obviously inspired by it. Like Tolkien´s dwarves being quite similar to those in our mythology, how the people of rohan look like vikings and their language seem kind of scandinavian, the dragons, elves etc. As far as i can tell he never just ripped something off though but always put his own twist on it.
Liam did a good job for sure but having watched your Gondor video, I really believe that your Viking accent adds something more wonderful to the videos.

How long after a dragon dies does the treasure still cause dragon sicknesses? Poor Smaug. He had the coolest name in the series. So much fun to say... SMAUG. Really nice job on the video. 🐢
I honestly don't think the battle itself would have been much more different, except if this happened: that Dáin didn't rush to the mountain. If the Goblins came, they would probably have retreated inside the mountain and sent ravens to the Iron Hills and elsewhere. They might possibly have gotten reinforcements from more dwarves. How long the dragon-sickness lasts is not ever explained. SMAUG. Thanks for your support turtle :)
Carl Barks had to have based some of Scrooge McDuck's character off of Thorin Oakenshield, not just Ebenezer Scrooge and Andrew Carnegie. Scrooge's debut was in 1947--ten years after The Hobbit, and he has a lot of parallels with Thorin. Both have quite a temper, both are old and childless, both are greedy, but they are goal-driven, both come from prominent families that had fallen on hard times until Thorin/Scrooge reclaimed that long-forgotten gold. Scrooge has a money bin with wealth similar to what we see in the Lonely Mountain, both have fought giant-sized arachnids, both cherish a priceless heirloom: Thorin with the Arkenstone, and Scrooge with his Number 1 Dime. And both their sisters had two kids that accompanied them on their ventures: Thorin's sister Dis had Fili and Kili, and Scrooge's sister Hortense had Della and Donald Duck. Basically Scrooge could play Thorin if Disney adapted The Hobbit the way they did A Christmas Carol. Have Mickey play the part of Bilbo and Goofy play Gandalf. Let that image sink in.

I didn't dislike the VA work you hired, but I also didn't dislike your voice work either. Keep at it, yo.
Well done, my friend!! I love the BOFA and wish the film version did a better job of having a sense of place for all the characters and elements at play.
Thank you Mellon :)!! I pity Peter Jackson for having to direct something he desired not to direct. Warner Bros ruined the Hobbit.
These are of such high quality I can’t believe it
Fantastic to hear :)
This is my new favorite channel
That makes me happy :)
Totally loved this! Great fun! AS MUCH fun as any of the movies!
Happy to hear that :)
Thanks for producing this very enjoyable depiction of the Battle of Five Armies. If only the movie had been like this, but it ended up being unintentional comedy! Great stuff! I look forward to more of this (if and when you find the time and energy). Again, many thanks!
Always working on new stuff, but it does of course take time!
@@LoreOfTheRingsYT I know! It's been nearly 2 months I've been working on my own next video for my own channel, and I'm still not quite finished!
This video alone im subed and liking. Awesome work and great story telling.
Brilliant as always! Keep up the great work
Thank you :)!
As amazing as always!
Thank you :) !
Awesome work! And it depicts the main reason i was so dissapointed with the movie: Beorn. He was a KEY figure in the battle. It was his ferocious charge that won the battle at the end, and in the movie he has like SECONDS of screentime ... but whatever, loved the video!
True! Beorn was super important, and was completely neglected
What an amazing effort and video, great job.
Thank you so much 😀
I like how you have a picture of Thror at Thorins grave
So much more accurate than the films. Great vid
Thank you!
I've been looking forward to this!
Lovely!
Beautiful! I liekd it very much.
Amazing work!
Glad you liked it :)!!
@@LoreOfTheRingsYT One couldn't be any prouder. My fandom of Tolkien died ages ago but I still send this one out to my old nerd gang haha
Infinitely better than movies!
Lovely to hear that!

Nothing beats the truth!
Very well done this👍🏼🥂☀️
Well spoken! Thank you 🥂🥂
Excellent as always!
Glad you think so!

This channel is great. Thank you so much for these videos. Subbing.
Welcome aboard!
fantastic job
Thank you!!
im glad the fight was done differently in the movies, not so flawed in tactics, more thematic
I have to read the book again, I almost forgot how good they are
I already like this kind of videos about real world History, but in Middle earth, it's even better
Happy to hear that! Did you like the video? And do you have any constructive criticism?
Wtf I didn’t get a notification
Great video hope to see more
Weird! Anyways, glad you enjoyed it :)
Very nicely done.
Thank you!
Love these videos bro. Unfortunately I cannot donate to your Patreon, but I would just like to let you know how I much I enjoy these videos.
Thank you! Don't worry, I appreciate lovely comments and value them highly!
Love the voice actor
Good to see Thorin properly portrayed with a real dwarf beard.
The movie depiction was pretty tragic. Purely human
To say nothing of the abysmal dwarf-elf love story.
@@aleksander8497 Tolkien cringed in his grave...
The original story is so much better than Peter Jacksons overblown trilogy
Jackson sadly had little time on the movies!
You’ve got to give him some credit though it must of been hard, I mean if it was me I wouldn’t of done 3 movies but it would be really hard I bet you couldn’t do much better. No offence not having a go.
@@Alex9971000 well he shouldn't have given himself so much more work by adding characters that don't exist in Tokens universe,
That take away from the main characters the whole reason we are they in the first place No one cares about a stupid Twilight love story.
@@ThomasK96 considering PJ at no time said he wanted to film the Hobbit, his project was LOTR, unfortunately he was left with the mess from Guillermo when he left the movies, so maybe the studios have alot to answer for, however I still enjoyed the Hobbit, although I wasn't happy with a love interest being introduced to the Hobbit (Tauriel).
@@katerinakemp5701 I know all about the behind-the-scenes drama I have watched all 27 plus hours a special features on all three Hobbits Films.
And I personally love an Unexpected Journey I would defend that one but only that one.
This portrayal of the battle is much better than the movie, although one thing I will point out about the movie is that when the elves started fighting the orcs with the dwarves it really stood out to me. Knowing the history between dwarves and elves, it means that even though they hate each other they will still come together to defeat their collective true enemy, orcs. (That jumping the dwarven phalanx was still a strategic failure imo though).
It's way more realistic the way I perceive it
very good and professional
Thank you :)
You should do the Battle of Dale next!
As much as I want to, there's very little known about the battle, but I will eventually do it and I have a cool way to perform it I think :)
Does anybody know what Smaug did before arriving ar Erebor.? Smaug must be Old. Was he fighting before?
He came from the North, probably the Grey Mountains. His age is not known, he could have been bred in the first age or not. Sadly not much is known :/
Well done sir! Well done!
Thank you Jeff as always!
The little birdy saved the day 🐦
It would be awesome if you also cover the Lonely Mountain Battle during the war of the Rings, where Dain II was Slain

I'm subscribing for that pun alone.
Hahah
This video is very well done brother
Thank you!!
@@LoreOfTheRingsYT wow I commented this while watching and you replied before the video ended
@@thectheb I care about everyone that sacrifice their time to watch my videos. Thank you!
@@LoreOfTheRingsYT well I love everyone who spends a lot of hard work for his viewers like you
Why oh why the BATTLE of th FIVE ARMIES didn't follow this ?
Tolkien is the master.
Guillermo del Toro basically either could not read or else thought no one would notice. And then quit. And Peter Jackson got left holding the bag...
@@thatguyinelnorte Battle of the Five Armies had nothing to do with Del Toro. He was only involved in pre production. The fault for that travesty lies solely on the studio, who insisted on making The Hobbit a trilogy.
@@ThejollyFrenchman I'm sorry but did the studio demand all the movies be close to 3 hrs long, have the elves jump over a spear wall of dwarfs to attack the enemy first, the stupid love triangle, killing Smung in the third movie rather then the second, focus so much time on that corrupt official in lake town(forgot his name) in the third movie, skip the funeral and Ironfoots crowing of King of the Lonely mountain?
I have no doubt the studio has a fair share of blame on how these movies were made but to dissolve Jackson of any blame is completely dishonest.
Dang in the movie they made Thranduil the one who wanted war and Bard the one who hesitated
Another wonderful content! Thanks such effort put others to shame. :)
Thank you for the kind comment!
Lore of Middle-Earth seriously we’re the ones who should be thanking you! this is a great content I doubt anyone would make this tactical overview and history video since most channels are focus on real history not fantasy and sci fi. so thank you this like a community service very well appreciated by lovers of History and Fiction alike!
great work,
Thanks :)
1:45 that "Thorin" looks very much like Thrain Ironfoot don't you think?
There's nobody called Thrain Ironfoot, do you mean Thrain or Dain?
You are good...you are good! Excellent!!🤴
Thank you!
That was brilliant
Thank you!
Great video!!!!!!
Thank you!
Superb, if only the film had followed this plot more closely
Yes, it would have been great!
Great video
Liam did a good job for sure but having watched your Gondor video, I really believe that your Viking accent adds something more wonderful to the videos.
I will return for the next one :)
missed the conversation about the black arrow :)
One can only make so much. Hope you liked it still.
@@LoreOfTheRingsYT of course...it was still most excellent video[which i have just finished :P]..but i am a bit of nerd when it comes to lotr :) {winks}
Am I the only one who thought your dwarf animation was better than the hobbit movies?! Lol
Thank you!
Really excellent work. How different do you think the war would have been if Oakenshield would have shared the treasure from the beginning and the dwarves, elves and men had been a more united army?
I am so glad I only read the book :)
You are a lucky fellow!
This Is truly epic
Thank you!
I played LOTRO and answered the hard question of how many rings there were and as a reward I got to play as a Nazgûl
Eagles are the metaphor for aircrafts
Oh my. I actually collected Donald Duck for at least 10 years when I was younger, and I still have my collection. Carl Barks is incredible, and you just opened a new world to me with that parallel. That was great, thank you :)
@@LoreOfTheRingsYT No problem. I also forgot to mention that Huey, Dewey, and Louie made their debut in 1938 and their names have that catchy rhyming scheme like Dori, Nori, and Ori.
Ooooh. This is sick dude.
Amazing!!!
Thanks!!
Incredible.
:))
I alwayws wondered which was counted as the 5th army, men, elves, dwarfs and orcs are 4 is eagles the 5th or Thorins company or the vargs or Beon.
Men, elves, dwarves, orcs and eagles
I always took the orcs and wargs as being seperate armies of the enemy. The other combatants don’t have the numbers to constitute an army.
