Sorry to hear about the Titanfall; I'd say another lesson here (because I had the same thing happen), was not to glue the joints and reinforce them so much. It's a lot easier to repair a snapped bond between two resin parts, then when the resin itself breaks. Sure, you may get more frequent breaks with the joints.. but with all the times I've had big dings, deformations or breaks in the middle of the part.. those were so much harder to repair than just a clean snap at a glue line. I'd much rather fix that a dozen times over a single broken leg.
But for metallics, fundamentally, the biggest issue with metallic paints is they don't photograph well. It won't do as good on social media. So you can't feel too bad that a metallic paint job just doesn't sing as much as NMM on social media. Objectively, in person, the ability for metallic flake (or even better, actual metal foil) to reflect the surrounding colors in the room and change as your head and the model moves, just can't be done with NMM. Your two eyes really pick up on the subtle difference in color and depth of the reflection each will see on a reflective object (and yeah, matte varnish kills this). But in our internet connected world, where you're judged off two dimensional photos or videos, it's just easier to sell a NMM paint job and show off your skills.

Ahhhh man, I've totally done the matt varnish over my painstakingly achieved metallics. It's even worse because it makes you feel stupid in retrospect! Well recovered though man, sounds like you've reflected on it positively.

I really feel for you dropping your Titan like that Liam. I think you did a fantastic job. Regardless whether you won anything with it or not, it's a real gutter to have a figure get damaged when you've worked so hard on it.

Install deep pile carpeting throughout your house man, just dont drop flock on it. Seriously though, I enjoyed the tale, and yeah its refreshing to hear about the dark side once in a while. Cheers mate.

Thanks for sharing. Ive always found miniature painting to be a hobby filled with overwhelmingly positive interactions. Which is saying a lot, for a largely (unfortunately) male dominated hobby. Masculinity is in a tough spot right now, where historical baggage is colliding with the unbelievable toxicity of the anonymous internet. Your honesty is refreshing, your models are amazing, keeping fighting the good fight.

I thought the way you pained it was pretty cool. I don't realy like the model shape, I think they could create something better.
