  • Outpost Building Starfield
    When it comes to Outpost Building, Starfield offers a ton of different activities to do during your journey through the Stars, and one of those activities that offers a place to store all you're junk or start a manufacturing enterprise is outpost building.
    Outpost Build Covered:
    Cargo Links
    Interstellar Cargo Links
    Extractors
    Solid, Liquid, Gas, and warehouse Containers
    Vytinium Fuel Rods
    Adaptive Frames
    There are quite a few things that Starfield doesn't explain as far as outposts go, but hopefully this video will light the way.In this 15 Minute Video, you should pick up quite a few tips and trick to allow you to create facilities on different planets and moons, within a single star system and beyond, link them all together, and start producing some high end manufactured goods.
    Finding the right place to set up an outpost can be tricky, so here's everything you might not have known about setting up an outpost in Starfield that revolves around the creation of high end items, like Vytinium Fuel Rods

    I like the guide! Two tips on decorating your habs:
    1) You don't have to drag and drop decoration items from your inventory using the A button only. Going into build mode will allow you to place those inventory items once you drop them.
    2) As was true in Fallout 4 and Skyrim, it's best to drop all the items from your inventory, then leave the outpost *before* you start placing them. The first time your outpost reloads, it applies physics to the dropped items, which can mess up your placement. Fortunately, this only happens once, so you can save yourself a _lot_ of heartache by not messing with items until that physics drop is out of the way.

    What i didn't realise with outposts is how much the companions work with the items you can place, within the habs, I put the weight bench down just thinking it's more decoration than anything else, i walk into the hab and theirs miss crabby from constellation doing bench press? In my opinion putting her on an outpost 40 light years away from me was the best thing i could have evre done, she's still angry with me? I do wish we as players, could have a similar interaction with some of the items we place in either the habs or the properties we own. Watching the NPC's open draws on the cooker, take things out etc does add an element i did not expect to see.
    The other thing i would say would be more encouraging for creation of outposts and their upkeep would be a galaxy based market place, to encourage mass production and specific production runs, based on what's hot and what's not. Rather like in Elite, I'm talking about the original version on BBC Micro. trading not graphics was what one of the main things' that made the game a hit.
    I'm not a mid 40''s gamer i'm a mid 50's gamer and still as keen as i was when pong came out on the Atari, Gamers never die but arthritis is a bitch.

I still remember pong as well; along with Intellivision’s Night Stalker, Dungeons and Dragons, Snafu…or Empire strikes back and Pitfall on Atari. I’ve taken the last week putting together a video on a sure fire way to put a few million credits in your inventory, with a good progression and a detailed explanation of how to actually do it in a timely fashion. Should be out by the weekend (and after that, a giant outpost guide). Thanks for the comment, it’s always appreciated. Stay safe out there, and as Always….Good Hunting!

      @CinoG2G Thanks for the comment! Sorry I missed this, somehow it slipped past me. Outposts are pretty tough to dial in and get right, and even when you do get them right they are really just places to bring resources together so you can craft things you need, level your character quickly, or make money through crafting (if you can find vendors with a large credit pool). While they are fun to construct to a point, once they are complete, their endgame use is a bit underwhelming, and the fact that you lose all that hard work turning over to NG+ is disappointing. There are two really good spots to get resources, Sieghart's Outfitters being one of the best I have seen in NEON; his name is Dietrich Sieghart. He has loads of every resource needed to build; 30 Aluminum, 13 Copper, 25 Beryllium, etc. He has a ton of it And the other guy is in SOL; Cydonia; when you proceed down the ramp take a left towards the end (right would be the Trade Authority), You will pass two small medical rooms and his is the last one. I can't think of his name but he's in a very tiny room and has most of the resources you need to build as well. He even has a bench next to his desk. Wait 48 hours.

      I have over 100 hours experience from outpost building alone in this game, if you want an advice you should completely avoid trying to use the cargo link system, it's broken even if you do it exactly like it was intended. Also completely avoid to place an outpost if you see any red lines when in build mode, that breaks the outpost and even your workbenches will glitch out so you can't access any of your resources. Hope Bethesda fix this system because it's a huge part of the game and it would be amazing if the networking part actually worked.

Actually, is a very simple one that if we try to tweak it caps out. Simply put, it's one in one out ABC never try to do more and it rune fine but slow. Best to keep its use simple untill BGS updates it or a DCL comes along.

    3 things I've discovered. 1. You can also pick up dropped items in the build menu, any item afaik (for decoration or storing thousands of items in a single "stack") and it will auto rotate upright and kind of "snap" to the "floor".
    2. You can use an input link on the first big "chest" container in the decoration section (the biggest one) to transfer weapons and armor (or anything that isn't a recource.) You can also connect a weapons case (the ones with lids that open). Though it doesn't actually fill up so idk why. Maybe so you can pull weapons you've got stored in it...🤔
    3. The rug glitch from fo4 works here too. (Works great for moving stacks of chests) You can even use this to move you're outpost beacon on top of your buildings, though it can also move the outpost center point if you do it wrong. (I think this happens when you move it on a rug then start to move it again but cancel it, but I've only done it by accident a few times and didn't notice right away.)

So much so I'm in two minds to even bother with it! And I like games like Satisfactory and Dyson Sphere Program! FFS! Maybe once I've done the Starborn NG+10+ I'll get around to it as a last 'what shall I do now', once I've played everything else kind of thing.

      @SusannaSaunders Anytime! It is a pretty complex topic, especially since there are a few aspects that Bethesda needs to tinker with so it runs a bit smoother. Lol, It doesn’t have to be long and tedious in the beginning if you just want to get your feet wet, and not your hair, you can set up a quick outpost for just iron and aluminum. A simple setup like that won’t take you too far into the weeds, and it’s a great place to dump stuff and sift through it later lol. Wow NG+10! Was gonna do that, but wanted to really finish every possible quest and hidden quest in the first play-through (SPOILER) since NG+ changes the universe each time. • @mid40sgamer
      @mid40sgamer  8 месяцев назад +3

      @SusannaSaunders You aren’t the first to ask for that guidance, so I’ll throw something together for everyone. But for now I can quickly answer (what I use them for anyway). So your Zoology and your Botany as they relate to Outposts are where you get all your organic resources (sealant, solvent, adhesive, nutrient etc) which are used not only for some outpost modules…but they are used quite a bit in crafting weapons, armor, food, and chems. Having Zoology and Botany allow you to really cultivate a giant supply of those resources passively in your outpost (so you have hundreds) while you’re off exploring the galaxy. That way you don’t have to waste time tracking ingredients down at Jemison Mercantile, or other various vendors. Then you can max your crafting, and make some awesome weapons and gear.

    I have multiple resources mined/shipped in to an outpost that end up in the transfer container. To prevent one resource 100% hogging the transfer container, I create a small container as the last link in the chain of each resource, and feed from those small containers into the transfer container. That way the transfer container accepts small chunks only, giving other resource a chance to "squeeze in sideways" so to speak. So at any one time, I have a fairly even mix of all resource types in the transfer container.

    Great video. Couple of things to mention. For both the greenhouse and animal husbandry facilities you mention in the video you have to go around and scan the plant or animal you want to raise. Most planets with flora and fauna have multiples of each so it's not clear how the act of scanning chooses one of them. Is it the first animal or plant you scan immediately after building the corresponding outpost building or do you get the option to choose any animal or plant that you have 100% scanned on the planet. Something like the latter makes more sense but it wasn't clear in your video. I was also unaware that you have to feed water to the greenhouse (makes perfect sense, the game just doesn't tell you about it) but I am really unclear as to what purpose the electronic console servers for each greenhouse. Is that where you select the plant you want to grow. A bit more on the video in that mechanic would have been great.
    Also, you mentioned the concept of controlling the output of any one resource to the input of any of the available targets in game e.g. the transfer station, relay station etc... by following something similar to extractor -> lots of big storage containers -> one medium or small container. This caught my attention because a lot of players struggle with too many of just one resource filling up outgoing containers which results in getting only one resource at the end of your inter-system links rather than some equal amount of all the resources your extracting at a given outpost (example: you have an outpost designed to send Aluminum, Iron, and Beryllium to another outpost on another planet in the same system. You setup everything up on both planets and then link them however at the target planet you wind up with 250 Aluminum, 25 Iron, and No Beryllium. If your system helps even that out so you get closer to an equal amount of resources at the destination I'd recommend doing another video to explore that deeper as I think it would help a lot of people me included.

    • @mid40sgamer
      @mid40sgamer  9 месяцев назад +8

      @thefirebirdman First off, this is an amazing comment, and the fact that you took time out of your day to put this kind of effort in deserves an equal response. So while I’ll do a video on it,
      (to include the log jams of multiple resources when shipping them via cargo links, and how to fix it; as well as going a little more in depth with the green houses, husbandry facilities and the best planet to drop them on for things other than Xp)
      I’ll also answer your questions direct and give a bit of a tip I have, which I use to see what resources are available for the facility on each planet:
      Greenhouse:
      Not EVERY plant you scan will be available for growth in the greenhouse, and what you scan first doesn’t determine what it will grow, that’s determined by if it’s “available for outpost production” which you will see after about 85% of the scan. Fun fact though, if you scan just 1 plant that’s available for outpost production, and you build the greenhouse, it will actually show you what other resources are available on the planet, but the computer will block out the ones you haven’t scanned yet with “scanning required”…which gives you an idea of what you can expect to grow. Some planets are a treasure trove where you can grow 5 different resources.
      On that subject, the computer terminal determines what you want that specific greenhouse to produce, and you’ll only be able to produce 1 plant at a time…..unless you have different greenhouses Growing different things.
      Same thing goes for the Animal husbandry facilities, but it gets a little more complicated, since different animals require different food types to produce resources.
      I wish I could type down all the cargo link stuff, like if you have incoming and outgoing cargo; if all your storage is filled for let’s say on incoming resources it will jam up the flow of outgoing, but if you create a bunch of bleed off containers, where you can drain those resources to unnamed the cargo links, it makes it a lot easier….tons of stuff in order to really make it run smoother than a 6.6 liter V8.
      As soon as I finish the video I’m currently working on, I’ll get after doing a more deep dive into the outpost stuff, since you and other folks might really need to learn how the sausage is made so to speak. And I’ll get right to the point and try not to get too out of pocket on it.
      Hope this Helps! Until next time, stay safe out there brother, and as always….Good Hunting!

    Still the most important question remains. Why? What does gathering all these resources accomplish aside from building more outposts? That’s really what’s missing for me. The only use I see for them is an xp farm you can go to grab a few levels quickly. It would have been nice if outposts linked to other parts of the game in some way even if it’s not a huge game changing integration.
    I know you can also sell the stuff you produce, and maybe that’s an RP thing people want to do, but I can’t justify it when I barely want to sell the mountain of guns in my cargo hold.

    • @mid40sgamer
      @mid40sgamer  9 месяцев назад +6

      @TinMan445 You know, in building all of this and spending a few days on just outposts alone I 100% get why you would question it. And if I’m being honest, there are a few things I find useful.
      After all could you imagine needing 200 adhesive for weapon upgrades, and research….then running around for an hour (or more) trying to find a creature or plant that drops it and hunting a bunch of them down? Or when crafting XP enhancing food items, needing ingredients in mass.
      Where I notice the importance is to have all the work benches, cooking stations, and all that stuff I one central hub for crafting since some of the higher end weapon mods really pack on the damage, and it’s easier to have those resources (like adhesive for weapons) on auto farm.
      Thanks for the comment and conversation. Until next time stay safe out there, and as Always….Good Hunting!

      @dinkumthinkum4794 I can see both sides of the coin since I agree with you’re point too (did a lot of vendor shopping for resources). I just hated having to shop for 5 adhesive at a time for the weapon crafting progression, since I felt like it was taking forever, so I just created a quick adhesive outpost for a metric ton of it. But you could go either way with collecting the resources for sure. Thanks for the comment and discussion brother, I like hearing everyone’s take on Starfield, an amazing game for sure. There are quests in the game that you can accept from the mission board where you are required to setup a "link" to provide a specific resource to one of the major cities in the game. I have a quest atm to provide Helium-3 to Jemison.

      @nemosthebandit So what I do personally, is create a ship that can carry anywhere between 25k-50k weight since when you build outposts you can use resources directly from your ship. Actually made one that can carry over 100k weight in cargo so I can just roll around the Galaxy popping up outposts. Hope that helps. Until next time stay safe out there, and as Always…. I haven't built my first outpost yet, I'm level 30 but I don't have the skills for planet scanning and outpost building. Should I just progress more through the game? or should I start a couple of simple outposts to farm materials and just stop by the outpost to pick them up from time to time?

    • @mid40sgamer
      @mid40sgamer  7 месяцев назад +3

      @jacobcisneros7731 The best way to start out is to build an iron and aluminium outpost. From there you’ll get the hang of outpost construction as well as be able to level up quite a bit making adaptive frames. The levels you gain can go towards unlocking the skills you’ll need to progress in your outpost construction. Hope that helps! Until next time, stay safe out there, and as Always….. Hunting!

    EDIT: After a few messanges back and forth with @MID 40’s GAMER If u only wanna mine 1 type of resource this setup is a quick and easy way as u can quickly land, go to your cargo inventory and load up the material in the transfer container and your off again. For that its perfect and u dont need a transfer link for it. Its quick and easy.
    Quick note 6:59 DO NOT do what he did here with the Transfer container as unless u only care about loading up your ship with 1 specific type of item. If u want to grab that just go to the box and grab it instead. The Transfer container is MUTCH better when u instead wanna empty your ships resource type cargo into the outpost storage. How u do that is u create a Solid, Gas and Liquid container and create 3 links from the Transfer container 1 to each type of container. U might wanna add several of each container depending on how mutch u loot and dont forget to link each new container of the same type together aswell. Now u can use the computer display inside the ship to empty the entire resource catagory into the Transfer container and if u have the 3 links setup correct it will auto sort everything into the Solid, Gas and Liquid containers assuming they are not full ofc. The Transfer container can only hold 200 itself so if u have more which is very likly u then need to fill that 200 up and exit the meny and when u go back in the storage should be empty and u can load up another 200. Some items cant be sorted link this but they are very few and will stay in the Transfer container. If u se alot of Solid, Gas or Liquid material not getting sorted then check if the containers are not full and if they arent then something is wrong with the link.
    EDIT: For this to work u also need a landing pad for your ship to land at and if your ship is smaller then 40m a small pad will do fine. If its longer then 40m u need the big pad and regardless which landing pad u use u dont need to link them together with the Transfer container that part is automatic.

    • @mid40sgamer
      @mid40sgamer  9 месяцев назад +6

      @Shiftry87 That’s fair. It’s 100% fact you can link solid containers, liquid, gas, warehouses to the transfer container, as outlined in the outpost video before this one, if you wanted to dump stuff off quickly, I should have clarified that in this video; but that’s if you want to use the cargo containers as a quick drop off. But what if you want to pick specific resources up? For instance if I have a planet mining Titanium….and I just want to pick up Titanium, but I linked my Transfer container to multiple containers and I dumped off a metric ton of resources, and now my Transfer container is filled with 200 of whatever solid liquid or gas I just dumped off (Iron..HE3…Water…Nickel etc). How do I grab the Titanium from my ship if it’s buried under a mountain of other resources….now I can’t, unless I get off the ship and walk up to the containers and sort through them manually, and all those resources are now unorganized, in a stack of basically grab bag containers. I assume PC works the same as the XBox in that respect. It’s not going to let you just sort through all the containers linked to the transfer container, unless I really missed something, and in that case I’m all ears. Thanks for the comment, and as always, Good Hunting.

    • @Overlord_Actual_1
      @Overlord_Actual_1 9 месяцев назад +6

      @Shyftry87 I tried linking a bunch of containers like that but then I have just a bunch of random stuff in a bunch of containers that I have to sort through, and at that point I’ve lost track of what I have. And if it’s not my home base that I craft at, and I need something, or need analgesics for a quest, what then? Not to mention I’ll have like 1 Alkaline in a container, a bunch of solids from another and then my transfer container is filled with a bunch of random crap too. Way easier to land, grab the specific resource that’s on the planet from my ship and then bounce. Not to mention if you wanted to “Dump Stuff Off”, you can just open any container while you are on your outpost and just transfer what you want from your ship to the container if it’s landed on a pad. So you can create containers right near your outpost beacon, so when you land you can open the containers and drop stuff off so it’s organized (Since you spawn at the beacon). So that’s pretty F’d up to say “DO NOT” do something if it’s a perfectly good way to utilize the container.

    • @Shiftry87
      @Shiftry87 9 месяцев назад +5

      @@mid40sgamer Yes if the outposts only purpose is to produce 1 type or resource only then yeah doing it the way u did is a good way if u dont wanna have a cargo link system to another outpost and that way u can just land pick some up and leave. For that purpose i say its better the way u did as there is no need to dump anything off at a location unless u wanna expand the operation or have it as your main crafting hub.

    • @mid40sgamer
      @mid40sgamer  9 месяцев назад +6

      @Shiftry87 One of the easiest ways I’ve actually found to organize all the stuff that you pick up is to create a few containers that are stand alone, near the outpost beacon, so when you zone into your outpost at the beacon you can just turn around, open the container, select your ships inventory if you have a pad dropped, and selectively put stuff in the containers. I mainly just use the transfer container so when I land at the outpost beacon I can run into the cockpit, hit the cargo terminal in the ship, and grab 500 (or whatever amount) of let’s say iron, so I don’t have to go to a container, pick up the iron, walk like I have 2 broken legs back to my ship and do it. I do the same thing with liquids, gas, and manufactured parts. So I rarely land, run back to my ship, go to the cockpit and download stuff, I download on ground at the outpost itself. Hope that sheds a little clarity on why I explained it the way I did. Good Hunting out there brother!

    • @Shiftry87
      @Shiftry87 9 месяцев назад +5

      @@Overlord_Actual_1 If the outposts only purpose is to export 1 type of resource then yeah linking it the way he did is a good way as u can do a quick land, load and your off so in that way its good. As far as looking for 1 specific thing then yeah i think its dumb that u cant be more specific in what goes where but so far i havent hade a need to know. Any outpost box can be accessed for crafting so for that it dosent matter where it is. And as far as finding something for a quest atleast i havent seen any quest that requires u to grab a specific type of resource item from your storage. I have about 60h in the game and i havent seen any.

      Austinarcher10 It’s never dumb to ask a question you need the answer to. You definitely need the airlock to get into the Hab, but sometimes the hab doesn’t connect because of a few different reasons (Uneven Terrain, restricted build area, etc.). What you could do is try adjusting the height of the Hab up about half way and then trying the airlock. Hope that helps! Until next time, stay safe out there, and as Always…. Good Hunting!

    I am kinda new to this, but to get silver and helium from kreet to cruth I have extractors on kreet linked to solid and gas storage which link to one cargo link connected to a link in cruth. Is this the proper set up? For some reason helium isn’t showing in storage in cruth. Thanks for the video, very helpful!

    • @mid40sgamer
      @mid40sgamer  6 месяцев назад +2

      @nateseweerdt135 Thanks for the comment Nate. So likely what’s happening is you could have an imbalance in storage at your main outpost, which would cause a bottle neck in resources, meaning HE3 won’t fill if your silver storage is at maximum and it’s backed up into the cargo link storage itself. So you can bleed off some silver from your storage or shut it off for a bit on Kreet. Secondly, Interstellar cargo links are designed to only have to be connected to HE3 at just one end….instead of both ends (but they were bugged for a while so it only seemed to work when connected at both ends). So you could also just shut the HE3 off, since your interstellar pads are fueled from their points of origin. So for example if you have HE3 powering an interstellar pad in Decarn to pipe resources to Cruth….you don’t need HE3 on Cruth. From what I can see now, it seems to work as originally intended. Hopefully this makes sense, and I hope it helps. Stay safe out there, Happy Holidays, and as Always…..Good Hunting!!!

    This question is never answered - where do you sell the stuff you produce - there are not enough cities/vendors (or their cash on hand) to sell stuff gathered from POIs let alone things made at outposts (yes you can sleep/wait but still hardly worth it and that really kills the flow of the game)

    Fyi, only ONE side of the interstellar cargo links needs to be fueled by helium. For example, you can just supply Helium to all of the interstellar cargo links at your home base. All of the supply planets will refuel at your home base, when they drop off your materials.

      @GameBrigade You’re not the first person to have that impression, and I can’t disagree that there is a ton time you can sink into building and refining outposts. But honestly that’s just one corner of the Starfield Sandbox, and you don’t have to like that corner or even spend time in it. The other corners of the sandbox are quests, flight combat, ship building, assaulting outposts on distant planets. There’s really something for everyone in this game, and I’m not just blowing smoke at you. Some of the quests in the game, as well as the storyline are pretty sweet, and offer fulfillment. Some are straight forward, some revolve around stealth 🥷🏼 .
      Or you can head off to a system like Jafa and burn Ammo on assaulting an enemy home base.
      It’s all really what you make of the the game, what fun you discover in it. It’s an open universe, and that’s pretty unique. There are tons of awesome things outside of outposts, otherwise it would just be an advanced Sim City in space.
      Thanks for the conversation, it’s always appreciated! Stay safe out there, in whatever game you’re playing, and as Always….Good Hunting!
