- If you've been looking for a new luggage for your travels, would you consider a trunk? While the modern trunk luggage is still fairly new in the market with not many brands offering this design, we test out July's version which is an Australian brand that comes with lifetime guarantee at a very competitive price.
Do we love it and is it a good alternative to other trunk designs? Absolutely!

Great review, some shots could benefit from being a bit more zoomed out. I get what you were trying to do but the focus was working to your advantage.
Thanks for the comment and feedback. Much appreciated. 😊
Nice touch sharing how much the packed trunks weighed. I know the checked trunk itself is about 13 lbs and was curious how much a filled case might weigh.
Thank you. I'm glad that part was helpful as I'm usually curious what the total weight of the luggage equates to when watching other reviews as well.
Great video review thank you! Did you look at the monos hybrid trunk as an option too?
Thanks so much for watching! I didn't consider the Monos hybrid trunk, to be honest. There's the price difference, I do prefer the minimal design of July's and if I recall correctly July is lighter in weight whereas Monos has a larger capacity?
I purchased both the Carry on and the carry on trunk. They are both too heavy especially the trunk is HEAVY. The compression strap is not great, adds weight and YOU CAN'T REMOVE IT! Which is extremely annoying. Lining only comes in black which sucks for visibility of your items
Are those dents all over the surface of the bag after one trip..?
If you're referring to the areas I was wiping down, yes, that happened after my first trip using the trunk.
@@TheStyleGene I have the Monos hybrid trunk and mine got scratched after it's first use. I did a cruise like you and the cruise people taking the luggage don't care one iota about your luggage. the dents etc came from putting it on the carousels as i believe they still have to x-ray the luggage before putting onto the ship and outside your room.
That's how polycarbonate plastic behaves. ABS plastic is more scratch/scuff resistant but will crack and fracture with hard impact. Polycarbonate has a lot more "give". It will bend and give and spring back into its original form. The downside is that it scuffs easily. I'll take polycarbonate over ABS any day. Cosmetic marks don't bother me.
Hi Jaime, thank you for this video review! I am currently trying to decide on a trunk luggage myself. Could you please share why you didn’t go with Rimowa for your trunk suitcase purchase?
Thank you!
Thanks so much Lyana! A few reasons why I went with July: Latch locks - it is so much easier closing and opening the trunk just by the clicking of latch locks rather than zipping around the bag the traditional way (the Rimowa trunk uses zips), especially when the trunk is full. We’ve had both latch lock and zip luggage in the past (Samsonite) and always gravitate to the latch lock bag. Price - we got 2 July’s for less than the price of 1 Rimowa but didn’t have to sacrifice on quality. The huge difference in pricing can go towards more travelling! ✈️ July’s trunk is also larger in capacity than Rimowa’s but only slightly heavier. Then the way the compression systems work internally - I have a Rimowa and to compare, I much prefer July’s Y-compression on the one side, and the hook feature on the lid side. It holds down items a lot more easily and securely than Rimowa’s velcro-type system, in my opinion, so this is really up to individual preference. And from an aesthetic point of view, July’s matte black is completely black right down to the handle bars whereas Rimowa’s has that steel frame dividing the bag and handle when in use, which is of course also personal preference for me and doesn’t apply to all colours. I hope this helps. 😊
@@TheStyleGene Thank you for the detailed response! I think you made the right choice as far as trunk options, and I will order a July one as well to test it out :)
@@lyanaya7075 you’re most welcome! I hope you find the perfect trunk from July. 😊
do you like the TRUNK better than exlarge check bag ?
I much prefer the size and shape of the trunk than an XL checked bag. But that's comparing with other checked luggages I've had over the years. I haven't owned a July classic checked bag to compare with the trunk.
@@TheStyleGene thank you so much. I'm murchasing luggage this next week. Truly appreciate. Its a big 'investment' anymore. ($$$). Have a nice weekend.
Does the 20/80 design make packing difficult with it being uneven when open.
Very good review. Makes me want to return my monos trunk because it’s latch assembly are hard plastic instead metal- also the minis inside compression hooks are plastic so yeah I might return it
I appreciate it, thank you! That's interesting that Monos uses plastic for their latch and hook parts.
The July latches are also plastic.
Great video thank you
Glad you enjoyed it.
Next time use Detachol to remove glue Or paint, Or if it too hard, then paint solvent can do the trick,i wondering if this trunks come with the keys included, to open this locks instead of combination!!
I like it but I prefer August......
