THE most thorough, factual, objective, non-sponsored, reviews I have ever seen. Superb methodology, consistency and documentation! I was considering the Level8 and had never heard of July luggage. Well done and thank you for your time and hard work making this. 🙏🏼
I just saw the July suitcase. I recently found out I needed to replace my carry on. I too got the same lightning deal on Amazon for Level 8. But mine is pink.
Great review! FYI most large dents in polycarbonate luggage corners can just be pushed out from the inside with little to no evidence of the previous damage. That's the great thing about the material; It is very flexible and absorbs the energy from impact without cracking. So when you see a dented corner consider it a "good" thing vs a piece of luggage made of lesser plastic that instead cracked and can't be easily repaired.
For those wondering why she didnt include away and calpak she mentioned in beginning of vid : she only kept the brands she was interested in purchasing. In the comments she says away and calpak have durability concerns and other reviewers have mentioned as much. I personally have a Monos carryon and love it, I chose it over away based on price and quality. From what I can gather in the 2-300$ weight class July > Monos > Beis > Away, in the Money aint a thing class Rimowa > everyone, as a consolation I think Calpak is the best budget bag - has the aesthetic of the better brands while quality is not much worse or better of those in that 100-200$ range.
We replaced our 20+ year old Samsonite and Tumi with CalPak (purchased at TJMaxx) and had no issues traveling internationally - 5 flights, 1.4 km run through airport to make connecting flight, through public transportation and across 4 blocks of cobblestone streets. Wheels look like new and no scratches on outside. While I don't expect to have the CalPaks for 20 years and it certainly is not as luxurious as a Tumi, it has worked for both myself and my teen during this stage of our lives. Appreciate your reviews, very informative.
I think this is the best luggage review ive ever seen. I'm traveling a lot more than I used to and im looking for a good carry on as my cheap one always gets stuck even on smooth surfaces. I think thats the most important part for me.
I’m in Vancouver Canada and went to the Mono store. Salesperson told me Mono is a Canadian company and produces made in China. They also said their suitcases are life time warranty.
Another vote for monos here. I have the terrazzo pro plus carry-on & the check in medium. People have stopped me in my tracks to tell me they like my bag. The carry-on has held up to several intl trips including 17 days in NZ being checked multiple times & hauled in vans and busses. I've had things spilled in it, drug it over rough terrain and it still looks great. They were expensive but I have no regrets. Only issue I have is when the suitcase is stuffed you can't lift the handle.
I’ve had the Monos Carry On Plus for a little over a year now and although it’s most expensive luggage I’ve ever owned it’s worth every penny. I’ve been on 5 trips with it and it’s held up perfectly. The wheels are super smooth, the handle is solid and overall it’s a very high quality product. After 5 trips including being checked in and hauled in the bed of a pickup truck it only has a few scratches on it. Don’t mind that since it shows it’s traveled rather spending its life in a closet.
This is the best video I have ever seen for a suitcase video. I trust your feedback with my life! 😂 I had my Beis for a while now and one thing I didn’t like is how sharp the side handle felt to my palm. I carried it down the stairs to my Airbnb one time and not only did it feel bulky to carry down, the grip on the handles felt like it was stabbing my palm. I thought that was “normal” with suitcase side handles. But I also took my fully packed Quince on a trip and that was not the case, it was comfortable…
I’m a huge July fan, and fyi, it’s an Australian brand and I travel often in Europe and always take my carryon light expandable July bag! It’s awesome , their customer service is fabulous and it is the lightest carry on on the market! Try it out! Cheers from Australia
I really appreciate that you got the July carry on essential and showed the internal bumpers, i had been wondering what they meant by that on the website and i finally got it when i saw those blobs of plastic. Bought it!
A great, informative, and well-thought-out (plus non-sponsored, and honest) review!! Good to see July come out so well, as this can be a slightly cheaper buy for Aussies like myself than some of the similar competitors. Thanks for being so thorough!
I appreciate that you don’t just give us the stats the company provides for their product (which seems more often then not to vary or be incorrect) trust but verify! And you include the pictures of the measurements! I adore my Patagonia bag but thought it cost a lot. I would NEVER pay the price of some of the bags considered. But that’s me. To each their own. Thank you again for such thorough analysis 🧐👍🏻
Thank you for this incredibly in-depth review. I didn't think I could get this interested in luggage, but my need to get a new suitcase drove me to this video, and you made it brilliantly fun to learn. Now, to make a decision...
Nice detailed review. I’ve had Tumi for years then switched to Rimowa, but I have a Made in Germany Aluminum one. I’m not sure why anyone would pay nearly $1000 for a plastic Rimowa. It’s gotta be aluminum.
It's light enough to carry to put in the overhead bin, and the wheels are the smoothest I've ever rolled, even with another bag on top. I wanted to buy the aluminum but it's just too heavy!
I’ve had my Away larger carry-on for a few years now and I love it. I just got back from a month and 1/2 trip that took me SFO -> Singapore -> CGY Philippines -> Boracay Philippines-> Coron Philippines-> Manila -> Singapore -> Barcelona -> Madrid -> Seville -> Malaga -> Granada -> Barcelona -> Zurich -> SFO and it held up like a champ. And prior to that I was in Kyushu Japan that took me through the north (Fukuoka), east (Oita and Beppu), and west side(Nagasaki) of Kyushu. Prior to that, I did a trip through Berlin, Budapest, and Czech Republic. And earlier that year I did a trip around northern Vietnam Hanoi ->Ha Long Bay -> Ninh Binh. I’ve been on every surface from the cobbled stone of Europe, to some of the undeveloped dirt paths of Philippines and Vietnam, stairs of Japanese train stations - used many different forms of transportation from speed boats, small propeller planes, tuk tuks, jeepneys, busses, vans, trains, etc, and I’ve never had a problem. Wheels are still smooth, the shell is in great condition (aside from the scuffs), zippers still zip and have had no issues at all. Would recommend it!
WOW Amazing, great work! I've got a MONO's Medium right now (served me well) and was curious about the (regular) carry on, thanks for the comparisons. I'm now looking into the July based on your amazing breakdown. Thank you
If you’re looking for the smaller sizes for yourself, I would suggest looking at the July Carry On Light Expandable that you mentioned and the regular Monos Carry-On.
Wow…! I have been looking for a detailed review on the different brands and this was exactly what I needed: spreadsheet comparison, Samsonite Winfield as your baseline (the same model I’m looking to replace, which has the same wheel issues, and it looks so busted up with the plastic coating all torn up), the brands I wanted to compare and more, and mostly the same models of those brands. Well done.
I just bought my July Carry-On because of this video. The quality seems like something that will last and they have some of the coolest colors! I think I watched this video 4 times at different sections before finally choosing July over Monos & level 8
My carry on is MVST. It is aluminum and looks outstanding. Zipperles. Two TSA locks. Rubber seals. A bit heavier than plastic. Roomy. Lifetime warranty. I could not be happier with it.
Thank you! I’m needing to do some luggage upgrades, and this could not have been more timely - awesome review, and the spreadsheet is icing on the cake ❤
I ended up going with July for all the reasons you listed, but what really sold me was the life time warranty. I reached out to July via instagram and asked I specifically if the warranty covers my bag if the airline damages it and they responded with “ yes it’s covered no matter who damages it”. I got the carry on and checked plus. Lol
I'm purchasing luggage right now. (major$) I hear complaints July too heavy. Your opinion. I like July trunk, no zipper. I'm traveling from MI to Ecuador. Tks. Truly appreciate.
I just was trying to figure out what luggage to use for a trip next year that includes multiple airlines, some of which have strict size and weight limitations. Since I own a bag that is around the same weight as the Quince carry on, and meets the size limitations of Singapore Airlines, I am just going to purchase one of the Quince check in bags to use. Singapore Airlines has a small size limitation for the personal item, stricter than the other airlines I’ll probably be booking flights on. I’ll just pack my Biaggi Runway Hardside hybrid carry on, and weigh it to make sure it doesn’t go over the 15 pound limit packed. I’ll be gone almost 40 days and will definitely be washing my clothes along the way.
The extended warranty does not cover any defects caused by improper use, cases that were bought second hand or without proof of purchase directly from July and cosmetic damages
Informative video review and as an Excel geek I love the spreadsheet you created for this review. I am a BIg fan of Tumi and I have never had any issues with them and you forgot to cover the Warranty. TUMI will repair any product you buy for up to 10 years and yes, the handles are flimsy, and I did break one, but they fixed it within a few days and now it is as good as new again. BTW Samsonite now owns Tumi. Thanks for showing us the other options out there.
Your review was excellent and detailed !!!! I hope your next review of luggages you mention if the Zippers are Water Repellent /Water Resistant, Water proof and Puncture resistant??? You have made luggage shopping a lot more easier for consumers like myself. Please continue the Excellant job you do and include other name Brands. 👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽👍🏽!!!!!!!!
FWIW - I ordered a Monos Hybrid Carry-on Plus on sale. It is smaller inside, considerably heavier and equally if not moreso prone to scuffs and scratches compared to their Classic Carry-on Plus that I already own. Out of the box, I received a scuffed up Monos Hybrid Carry-on Plus. I emailed their laggy customer service team and despite the unsatisfactory product delivery, they impose a $45 return shipping fee on the customer. Poor customer service. I do like their Classic carry-on plus though, just wait for a 15-30% off sale which happens every so many weeks/months.
ok this is the spreadsheet and video that i wish existed when i was looking for a suitcase summer 2022! i ended up going with july (classic carry on - before the essential came out) and have traveled over 20 trips with it. on my most recent trip, i checked the suitcase and the plastic cracked at the corner of the external bumpers but i reached out for warranty replacement and it was a really smooth process! (we also bought a calpak at the same time and the july wheels + telescoping handle are SUCH a night and day difference). i've been trying to keep longevity/durability documentation on instagram but i've fallen a little behind on keeping up :)
Great review! Got my daughters the Beis luggage for their weddings but mostly because they already had the mini weekender and accessories and they loved the style.
WOW! Thank you. I really wish Swiss Gear was on your list. I have 3 pieces from them that after 28 years are starting to have "little " issues like a broken zipper pull which is really nothing. They have been a true workhorse traveling all over the world but want to replace the two wheel for a four wheel as I am older and want the ease of the four wheels function. Thank you for the info.
I really appreciate the time spent on making this high quality comprehensive video, I recently got introduced to the world of 'Carry on only' through the RUclips algorithms as ive transitioned into minimalism and am currently in the market for a case to travel light, you've helped me narrow it down. given the approach and attention to detail in your review, this should have a lot more views, i'm excited to see the coming growth of the channel and your brand, keep it up 🥂
Great job! Love your detail, love your "logic" (used to explain how you assess your needs), and love your vocal delivery - easy to listen to and follow.
Start with 22 by 14 by 9. Use 21.5 by 15.5 by 9 for international carriers. Nothing worse than being told your “carry on” is too large, no matter how nicely it rolls on carpet.
I took my Monos regular carry on from SF>London>Paris>Rome>Barcelona>London>SF and I highly recommend it. It was checked in for 3 of the shorter flights and even went on a 2-3 mile walk on the streets of Rome and came back with only a couple minor blemishes. I actually really like the button on the bottom of the handle to make any adjustments on the fly as opposed to rotating your hand so your thumb can find the top button. As for your winner here, July seems like a pretty good suitcase as well, I just personally cannot get with the amount of branding all over it. Now I am doing research for a check in suitcase and the first thing on my checklist is a latch closure instead of zippers. Might want to look into that as well since you mentioned not wanting to walk around the whole suitcase to unzip it 😂
@@j0404tthe flights to Rome and Barcelona were on budget airlines so we were only able to take personal items on board. Then I checked it again on my way home from London because there was like a 3 hour long line at TSA and a British Airways agent told us that if she checked our luggage, we could move to a short line they opened for personal items only. No issues with the size at all, again with the regular size not the plus.
After your review, I just ordered the Quince 20" bag. I have purchased many sweaters from Quince. I've never had to use customer service because everything I've ordered from their site has arrived as advertised. I can go as long as 2-4 years between flights. This bag will meet all of my needs in the air and on land.
Thank you for this. Just had my big suitcase wrecked when it was offloaded from a cruise, I think they dropped it and totally broke the corner. Will look at Mono's or Quince.
I purchased a July carry on 2 years ago, And my wife just purchased a July checked luggage. Have not had one issue and customer services as good responsive as you can get. I love July luggage
We have the July light and highly recommend it! Wishing we went with the july light extendable though as we found that it's a bit shallow inside but would recommend either one
I bought the July carryon a couple of months ago at their SoHo New York City retail store. The weight discrepancy you mention may be the USB battery pack built in below the handle. Popping it out reduces the weight by about half a pound. As mentioned in another comment the lifetime guarantee with free shipping if repair is needed made the choice for me.
How has your July carry-on been holding up? I was thinking of buying July luggage after this video, but after seeing a variety of poor reviews online i am hesitant. Lots of reviews say they are poor quality and something often breaks within the first year - when they try to contact the company for a replacement, their customer service is TERRIBLE! What have your experiences been so far with July?
Watched every minute! My checked bag was damaged on a recent trip after hilding up to dozens of domestic and international flights. WAITING TO EXHALE when you launch your July Checked bag review!! Until then, Im just going to travel with carry on only 😊. Thx in advance! Great job!
Thanks for the video! If you ever do another one of these, it'd be great to see the Lojel Cubo included. It has a cool front opening design that gives more flexibility in how you pack and needs less space to open; great for cramped hotel rooms... the reason I'd like to see an in-depth review (as you do them) is the carry on isn't the biggest on paper, so I'm curious how it would stack up in usable capacity... IMO, this design is a a game changer for the larger sizes though.
Bravo! Patient and dedicated-I appreciate your input-In fact, My son, my partner, and me (mostly) own some version of each one of these carry-ons except Rimowa-I am travelling in Europe and I love my monos carry on trunk for eastern Europe trips which include boat, small airplanes, and long train rides.
I was considering July checked luggage & this helped me decide. I wish you had ranked fit for all of the bags, even the ones that were too big for your needs since you provided all other details already. I travel frequently for work & use the BÉIS carry on … the squishy handle is my favorite part 😂 It’s so comfortable when I’m dragging my suitcase all over the place.
Haha! I totally get it! We all have different personal preferences 😆 I didn’t rank them because it wouldn’t be a fair comparison. Beis and Monos Carry On Plus are not standard sized and will obviously fit more. But between the two, Monos fits more than Beis, and it is lighter!
Looking for a carry on luggage I have to thank you for the dedication, efforts and details you put into into this review., everything was very helpful. Wish you the best !
This was definitely the best luggage revenue video I’ve seen yet, and I’ve been watching a lot, lol. Would you consider doing a video analyzing suitcases that are zipper free? They’re supposed to be safer but are harder to find.
I'm super impressed with this review - thank you! I'm in the market for the biggest carryon on for European travel. I'm an American living in Ireland, desperately trying to turn into a carry-on only traveller (which is like moving mountains for an overpacker like me). Now I need to see if I can find your comparison with July light! New sub, btw :)
I love this video, very detailed review and informative. As someone that is looking for new luggage’s to travel. This video helps me choose which brand and model to buy. Thank you
I have some rimowas, 2 carry ons and 3 check in luggages. When 2 of my luggages got some cracks due to my constant travels rimowa did replaced it with new ones☺️. Yes rimowa is expensive but it is definitely worth the cost.
My most recent luggage purchase was a Calpak Ambeur and have been super happy with it. I got it during their Black Friday sale for around $150 plus I got cash back from Rakuten. I was specifically looking for an affordable bag that I could roll on 4 wheels to easily carry my dog in his carrier when I travel. My husband and I usually pack for as long as a week in the Samsonite; I don't think we would be able to do that with the Calpak. We've been able to pack for long weekends fine, though. When I'm looking to upgrade my checked bags or get something more luxurious, I won't go with Calpak. I'll look at July or Monos. But, this has been great for short trips and for the ease of rolling my dog through the airport. This is well worth the $150 for me. I also got their compression cubes and they are so much nicer feeling than the ones I had from Amazon. I only got the large ones and they don't fit well in this suitcase but I'll definitely get the medium and small ones the next time they're on sale. I can't wait for round 2 of the review to see what you actually got!
Amazing video! Hopefully in a future video you can add Briggs and Riley for hard cases their Torq or for soft the ZDX. As they offer one of the best guarantees in the business.
Im sorry but you must do a second edition with the Away!! I ended up getting one a few months ago to replace my beat down Amazon Luggage (RIP - 2018-2023) If the Away is not competitive I have no problem handing it to my mom 😂 Oh and mad respect on the weight decision. We travel in Asia often and the Carryon-Gestapo is real..the extra souvenirs will come back to haunt you at check-in
14x22x9 is typically for U.S. airlines in the U.S. Usually a little smaller is needed for elsewhere. And keep in mind, lighter can be flimsy. 7.7lbs is right in the middle of your spreadsheet.
This is an excellent review using both quantitative and qualitative attributes. While I don’t agree with the overall assessment given the data provided the end results make total sense. Again, excellent review!!
This was a very thorough review! Just curious why you didn't look at a new Samsonite model? My family all have Samsonite carry-ons and have no complaints. Also, would you come back with another video about how well your choice has performed?
There’s nothing like a super detailed excel spreadsheet that satisfies my OCD LOL. Thank you for being so thorough!
missing the most important detail of all. what are they made of? polycarbonate, abs or aluminum.
@@rong9090mentioned at the beginning of the video, polycarbonate

I love a spreadsheet queen! Thank you for this. The July was the winner for sure.
Excellent analysis and would love a follow up on your final decision and use
Informative video review and as an Excel geek I love the spreadsheet you created for this review. I am a BIg fan of Tumi and I have never had any issues with them and you forgot to cover the Warranty. TUMI will repair any product you buy for up to 10 years and yes, the handles are flimsy, and I did break one, but they fixed it within a few days and now it is as good as new again. BTW Samsonite now owns Tumi. Thanks for showing us the other options out there.
Samsonite owns Hartmann now, too, which means no more "Made in USA" bragging rights.
This video was so thorough. Thank you for this!
That’s awesome! They are very beautiful luggages.
You'll LOVE the smaller version of July! I do. Designed for inter European flights wit limited overhead space. Works perfectly.
Thank you for this detailed review. I've been on the look out for a new carry-on and this is so helpful!
I’m glad! Thank you!
I really appreciate your through review. You are doing the Lord's work
The best video i've seen on hardshells. Thank you for your hard work!
Never heard of July…but I’m sold! Thanks!
Yes I decided on July too!
Commenting because this is all such useful information! Kudos and I hope your reviews get even more love!
WOW!
Thank you for the awesome video! I’m small as well so your review with weight and lift assistance helps😅!
I really appreciate the time spent on making this high quality comprehensive video, I recently got introduced to the world of 'Carry on only' through the RUclips algorithms as ive transitioned into minimalism and am currently in the market for a case to travel light, you've helped me narrow it down. given the approach and attention to detail in your review, this should have a lot more views, i'm excited to see the coming growth of the channel and your brand, keep it up 🥂
Thank you so much for this!
AWESOME review! I have tried most of these and you were spot on! The Spreadsheet was EVERYTHING!
They won't allow 22 height for international carry on?
Wow, thank you for this review, I'm looking for a new luggage set. Good luck with your channel and I subbed. I'll let you know which brand I go with.
Might want to look into that as well since you mentioned not wanting to walk around the whole suitcase to unzip it 😂
Was it checked in by choice? Or because it was too big ?
@@j0404tthe flights to Rome and Barcelona were on budget airlines so we were only able to take personal items on board. Then I checked it again on my way home from London because there was like a 3 hour long line at TSA and a British Airways agent told us that if she checked our luggage, we could move to a short line they opened for personal items only. No issues with the size at all, again with the regular size not the plus.
Terrific, thorough review. It has helped me make a decision so thanks!
This is amazing. I was gonna buy a Beis carry-on but decided not to after watching your detailed review. Thanks so much!
Thank you for buying these and doing such a great review !!!! I also recommend adding Calpak to your company list for future vids !
We have the July light and highly recommend it! Wishing we went with the july light extendable though as we found that it's a bit shallow inside but would recommend either one
I just bought the July Light Expandable and will be reviewing that next!
great video! wish I saw this before I bought a quince and monos to compare myself. Going to keep the monos and returning the quince.
We all have different personal preferences 😆
I didn’t rank them because it wouldn’t be a fair comparison. Beis and Monos Carry On Plus are not standard sized and will obviously fit more. But between the two, Monos fits more than Beis, and it is lighter!
The best review on RUclips. Thank you for your investments and hope they have you as suitcase ambassador. 🍾🎊🎉🥳❤️🔥
With this review in mind, I'm going with the Tumi. Good review.
Oooh interesting & informative. I was hoping you would compare Herschel luggage too.
Would love to see a Lojel Cube review
I love this video, very detailed review and informative. As someone that is looking for new luggage’s to travel. This video helps me choose which brand and model to buy. Thank you
I have some rimowas, 2 carry ons and 3 check in luggages. When 2 of my luggages got some cracks due to my constant travels rimowa did replaced it with new ones☺️. Yes rimowa is expensive but it is definitely worth the cost.
damn u rich..WHy you trying to brag?
Briggs and Riley is amazing! They are one of the ones I trust the claim of “life time warranty!” I want to check them out soon!
This is super helpful! Keep up the good work
Am I the only person who LOVES your dog? I had a granddog, Davie, who looked incredibly similar to yours. Brings back such warm memories!
Im sorry but you must do a second edition with the Away!! I ended up getting one a few months ago to replace my beat down Amazon Luggage (RIP - 2018-2023) If the Away is not competitive I have no problem handing it to my mom 😂
Oh and mad respect on the weight decision.
Wait why didn’t we review Away? İve had one since 2018 and İ love it. Also, lifetime warranty.
Would like to see the DB Ramverk in one of these comparison videos one day. Great, thorough video though 👏🏻
This was a very thorough review! Just curious why you didn't look at a new Samsonite model? My family all have Samsonite carry-ons and have no complaints. Also, would you come back with another video about how well your choice has performed?
What an excellent video. I learned so much! Love the spreadsheet. Thank you! Subscribed.
