  • A viewer sent CBS 8 a video showing the moment a mountain lion attacked a deer on the side of the road.
When Buddy Wilkerson was driving to work Monday in Alpine, he came across something he’d never seen in person before.
“I pulled up a little closer to get a better view and sure enough, the mountain lion started to drag the deer off the road, and then they separated and both took off,” said Wilkerson. “I’ve never seen anything like that.”

Leave the mountain lions alone! You should know they have always been there. Just hope there's not a wildfire and they have to release the lions and bears down the road...then you will be scared.
Get better fencing and dogs to protect and ward off and even loud noises, lights. I live around the lions, coyote packs, black diamondbacks and all the above work. Amazing how that lady is so clueless.

The deer population is way to high and orher than a mountain lion or maybe eating hit by a car. There is no other way to controll the deer population. There is no deer huntin tis clise to twons. Hopefully the mountain lion can find another deer or animal to eat and fed its cubs.

We live in Mtn Lion country- they walk through our yards looking for pets. Bears too. You just have to learn to live around them- it's their home we're encroaching on them. People have farm animals and goats here too- higher fences, electric fences. Fires have also caused their prey to move closer to water and food, including pet food left outside. When the forests regenerate and water is available they'll not be coming down unless people foolishly leave their pets out at night. Even then it will more likely be elderly predators, and injured.

1000000000% AGREE ppl have this thought that were better then these wildlife animals when we are the opposite by far one thing is humans have absolutely no purpose on this planet we don’t do anything to benefit it we are just breeding like rabbits and expanding our presence deeper and deeper into wildlife habitats and then some ppl get butthurt when a mountain lion eats their pet or livestock welll they know there are predators in the area one thing can be done and build a pretty proof area to keep their animals somewhat safe not sure what can be done to keep how a 120-150lbs mountain lion from getting its next meal to feed itself and its cubs So yeah ppl should be happy that had helped a mother feed itself and baby cubs due to the human population growth we are invading wildlife’s homes. And we don’t have to absolutely other places to build without having to cut down forests to put homes up all I know is the tribes in Africa have goats and cattle and they have built areas to keep out predators with just sticks and twine but ppl here in the new world just cry and bitch about it. There are species that should be hunted and there are ones that should not be just cuz it was hungry and ate your fucking goat

The lady who complained about her 2 goats were killed by a mountain lion & all these other people, it's heartbreaking to lose a pet, but the mountain lions & other wild life lived there IN THE MOUNTAINS long before people decided to get the idea in their head thinking "oh hey let's clear some land & build a house & live here"! What were the people thinking that the mountain lions & all the rest of the wildlife would be friendly neighbors & hang out together with you in harmony? People made a choice to build homes & live there & encroach on the land where wildlife live. The wildlife didn't choose to live there. They were born into the wilderness! Builders are taking away the wildlife land. Of course they are going to have to go look for prey to eat because they have to. They can't stand out with a sign "hungry need dead animals to eat." The lack of common sense never ceases to amaze me.

Nothing wrong with that. Mountain Lion control the deer population. That deer could have easily jumped in front of someone on a motorcycle and killed them. Happened once to Peter Fonda in Montana! He barely escaped with his life!!

I can remember if you seen a deer in North Georgia it was rare in the sixties and seventies. At the home place I was raised. Now they are a yard full of deer at times. They moved in on me. Due to the farm land surrounding me was turned into subdivision apartment complexes shopping centers. By the way I grew up on a gravel road which has been paved for many years now. Not to mention the coyotes and foxes. All in the name of progress

Top predators in terrestrial ecosystems may limit populations of smaller predators that could otherwise become over abundant and cause declines and extinctions of some prey. It is therefore possible that top predators indirectly protect many species of prey from excessive predation. This effect has been demonstrated in some small-scale studies, but it is not known how general or important it is in maintaining prey biodiversity

This woman is talking raising goats as pets. As if the cougar is worried about her pets, when he or she is trying to feed themselves. This is nature people. All animals kill for food or to protect themselves. Where are all the vegans and vegetarians? Why aren’t they complaining about animals that kill in cold blood and eat their prey while it’s still breathing? I’d love to see these tree huggers try to tell that cougar to eat lettuce and carrots 🥕 instead.
