lol! I release videos on what we call Florida time. :) There's only two seasons. Crazy hot and rainy season and mildly hot and dry season. I actually try to release videos in an order to keep variety on the channel. I've got things I worked on in June and haven't released yet.
I have refurbished 4 (upper/lower/mid) of the craftsman 70’s light grey/red and the 80’s dark grey/red. When placed side by side to an original 80’s craftsman the Regal Red is very-very close and my go to. My experiences led me to using angle grinder stripping discs after removing all door slides. Takes out all old paint/rust inside and out and boxes come out like original. Love that I’m not the only one that likes to take these apart and make them functional again. Really enjoy your channel! Thanks, Ray
Thanks! This NAPA box certainly had enough rust to use an angle grinder. it just never occurred to me. :) Sounds like you take these further than I do. Mine go right back into service so i want them to look nice but not so nice that i don't want to use them. Glad you're restoring these old boxes as well!
lol! June here is very odd. It rarely rains but the sun is, of course at it's highest so sometimes it's the hottest month, but humidity is relatively low compared to the next four months. Glad you enjoyed the episode.
Great rehab, I have found that Rust Oleum Safety Red in their High Performance Line is a good match for Craftsman red. I think over the years Craftsman tool box red has changed slightly. Thanks for the video
That's an awesome tip! Thanks. I always thought it looked too bright on the ca but now I'm going to go pick up a can and give it a shot. Yes, the shade of red has changed over the years but it's bound to match one of them. :)
@@moseshancock3336 EI agree. verything had style back then. Even some old power tools I've come across have that art deco streamlined look to them. Even door hinges had scrollwork to them.
Yes! They always come to say hello when I first get started in the morning. At the time I shot this the mostly white and tiger mix cat was a feral but she got sick so I've since taken her inside and to the vets and now she's slowly adapting to home life.
I've never tried that. generally, these go right back into service so they'll get dirty again. I think I'll try that though because I have some with no rust, just old paint. Thanks for the tip.
Definitely won’t ridicule your methods, they work. As much as you have to do, have you ever thought about paint guns like car people use? Might be easier on you.
Thanks! Yes, I've thought of it. I keep hoping that one day one of these boxes I pick up will have one that I can use. When I painted my Suburban with cans... that was really overboard. :)
I have heard of the laid back Florida lifestyle but the fact it is still the end of May down there amazes me. 😉😉

Really enjoyed this episode! The 99 degree "low humidity" days cracked me up. Only in central Florida!

Nice job. That gray is almost identical.
Thanks! Yes, the gray was nearly an exact match. The red, not so much. :)
Two great tool box sets.
Thanks! The NAPA box is especially interesting because it has the slides from the 1960's Craftsman boxes but is not that style in any other way.
One of the supervisors even needed a bath at the end! Another great video, thanks!
lol! Yes, this was a dirty job. Even the cats were avoiding me.

I think they turned out great. Thanks for taking the time to make and post your videos.
Have a Jesus filled day everyone

Thanks! Well worth a few hours, I think.
Boxes looking new with the cleaning and paint little work 😊😊😊
Thanks! That NAPA box is really unique.
@@floridarusticrepairs yes the old boxes are like old vehicles they have style

At 18 minutes the Supervisors show up! Excellent!!

@@floridarusticrepairs I hate she got sick but, glad you took care of her and she is adapting
@@michaelsurratt9593 She's an indoor cat now. Since I mostly work from home now she's my new secretary. Stays in the office with me all day.
@@floridarusticrepairs that’s awesome
Amazing makeover. For the ones you choose not to paint, have you considered a wax and maybe buff?
I've never tried that. generally, these go right back into service so they'll get dirty again. I think I'll try that though because I have some with no rust, just old paint. Thanks for the tip.
I restore the old boxes as a hobby i have restored quite a few of them still have a bunch to do.
Nice! My favorites are the 1960's Craftsman Grey and Red boxes. Do you have a favorite style?
@@floridarusticrepairs That is my favorite also i have about 4 sets of those next 2 favorites are Remline and the wards Powr Kraft
@@TheDodge610 I'm hoping to come across a Powerkraft box but so far no luck. I haven't seen a Remline either. I'm missing out. :)
@@floridarusticrepairs I have both got them a while back they are few and far between lol
i have had good results with SOS pads for rust
Yes, great tip. They work well for cleaning corrosion off of aluminum wheels as well. Thanks!
The regal red is darker than the sunrise red.
Thanks for the tip! Yes, in hindsight, I should not have used Regal red. It's a nice red, but too dark.
Camera is most likely cutting out due to heat.
I think you're right. It's a frustrating problem because I never know how long it'll be until it cuts out.
