Thank you very much for your time. Very informative and useful to me. I would like you to scope solenoids and how do they appear on the scope, known good vs bad and what to expect when they mechanically or electrically fail.

Which part of the Toyota/Lexus ignition coil fails? I haven't had success finding the failure using a lab scope when current ramping and monitoring igf igt signals.

Often times the failure is in the igf transistor. Sometimes it’s intermittent. Other times the secondary side fails.

Which scan tool do you use the most?

I use the Snapon most often because I can operate it fastest. For Chrysler I generally use the OEM tool because I can easily pull up service, bulletins and repair information. Launch and autel I grab on Euro cars because they seem to have better coverage and better functional test.

My favorite test Chad. I love using a third channel to monitor current ramp.

Do you ramp all the coils or just the suspect coil? Some are easy to attach low amp clamp to power-source and some not so much. I love how when one coil fails on the IGF the engine won’t run🥴.
ECM- Doesn’t looking any spark is happening so we better turn off the injectors.

@@ThePracticalMechanic most of the 2GR-FEs are pretty easy. There is a junction connector in the fuse block. I see some fail primary as well so I just make it a habit. But igt and igf you can do with your eyes closed. I’ve actually never ran into a scenario where it takes out the entire igf circuit and kills the car. I’ve heard if it a lot.

@@grabovg I’ve seen it most on 3.5 rav4’s. They will cut power and/or stall when the IGF gets shorted. You can simulate it with a test light. After about 3 seconds with IGF shorted most will shut down the injectors.
