Very cool. Practicing on known good vehicles helps you spot the bad ones.

Most scopes have 10 horizontal lines, or divisions for the vertical scale. Vertical and
    horizontal divisions are called “graticules”.

I apologize for that’s error, I meant graticules, we just decided to launch video. That was my fault. Thanks for watching

@@MasterAutomotiveTraining -- No problem, we all make mistakes but it takes a man to own up to them. Good video BTW!

I got a old Snap On Modis for $300 off the tool truck. It’s a 4 channel lab scope

NICE! Even tho the tool isn’t updatable, you can use the scope to its fullest! You’ll enjoy the MODIS scope, was my second scope after the MT2400 back in the day.

Hello. Thanks for helping out on how to work the scope. I just got an older 2 channel one possible one of the first ones and m trying to learn it. Is there a way to damage the scope by using the wrong setting or Pocking the wrong wire?????
    Thanks
My scope: no. 3820 SPX OTC Perception

Welcome to the club! Scopes are a tool we need to learn and master as cars keep getting more high tech and faster signals that only a scope can see.
Yes you can damage scope, how, if you measure a voltage higher than the rating for the channel. For example if the scope channel is max at 30v and you test an ignition coil, if the coil spikes over 30v it can damage the scope. Make sure you know the input voltage max for the channel, if it’s too low use an attenuator to safely be able to test that voltage.

I wanna play around with it and it is brand new but, has been sitting in toolbox for at least 2 years. I'm just afraid of frying it. That's why it sits. Need an over-all rule of always what to do so I don't fry it. Don't need it explained why it will fry it....just what to always make sure is hooked up so I don't fry it.
