id rather people like Kai get some cash from them than some advertising agency, but yeah, they're a bit too exe for me to bother with when there's flickr for $30 per year!
the add for this device claims "Eliminate your camera's internal compression and time limits - record up to 4Kp60 10-bit HDR video direct from your camera's sensor over HDMI 2. 0. Teamed with a 1TB Atom SSD mini you can now achieve up to 150 minutes of 4K recording on a single drive!" but will this record 4k 60fps on the sony a7rII even though that camera can only record 4k at 30FPS?? and how can it record 10bit from that camera when that camera only outputs 8-bit 4.2.0??
When you want to hook something up to a hotel tv, use the input that the hotel is using for it's cable box. Pull out the hdmi cable that's plugged in, and use that jack.
Looks like I glitch I have had happen to me before in final cut. Say if you have two effects on a clip and disable one as you don’t need it anymore (like a different colour grade) and export, it still applies that effect even though it’s off. Happened to me the other day.
Most likely cos I accidentally applied two colour corrections as Lok said although it could be a glitch...was rushing the edits of these two videos to get them out!
I do like/ prefer prores, but my 2017 MBP plays GH5 4K files just fine in FCPX now. Even HLG. Although I can’t even begin to count how many times I would’ve loved to have a Ninja at least for monitoring.
cuckoomusic FCPX renders/ converts those files to Prores anyway so that’s while it runs well. The benefit of using pro res straight out is that it doesn’t have to convert those files and you can just edit them at the full quality. Not a must have but a nice feature that can result in a better image.
NXN Music well, it might be technically converting everything on the fly to prores internally. But it’s not like you have to cross convert anything up front. Nor do you need to make space for big prores files. Just pop anything on the timeline and go. Cross converting is a thing of the past. I’m using h.265 HLG files all the time directly on the timeline. It works really well on an up to date system.
hi, thanks so much for your amaizing content. you know if the ninja v will work whit an canon 5ds, just recording in proress 1080. i know is not compatible. but even that cant work?? thanks so much
So will it work with the ps4? Would be genuinely useful for capturing footage, built in share footage is trash. Like pass through hdmi and play on tv like normal, wonder about input lag.
I'm a bit confused, what exactly is an atmos thing? Is it just another screen or is it like a live color correcting thing? I use a GH5 but never really considered getting an atmos.
EeveeFall it’s an external monitor and recorder. You can record up to 4K 60fps in 10bit. Internally you can shoot only in 8bit in that same format (however you can shoot 4K 24fps in 10bit). Means you can increase the amount of shades of color in your image from 16million to over a billion.
Thought you might like to hear my experience with Atomos: Well, I bought a Nija V in October of last year, about 5 months ago. I have used it to shoot about 1.5 gigabytes of video and then all of a sudden it started to lose connection with my Panasonic GH5. At first I thought it might be the Atomos HDMI cable I was using but though that not to be the case. I submitted a warranty repair request on the Atomos website and after a week I heard nothing from anyone. I then called the Atomos USA number hoping to talk to someone in tech support but that simply went to voice mail. After more testing I determined it actually was the cable. Finally I heard back and was told they would send a replacement cable which they did. But... What I bought (and what was on the receipt I sent them) was an Atomos full HDMI to full HDMI cable at a cost of $49 USD. What I received as a replacement was a UCEC 11.81" cable that has a cost of $9.99 USD on Amazon. I have sent them an email asking why I received a cheap replacement instead of the same as what I bought. I should hope nothing ever goes wrong with the Ninja V as there is no telling what they might send to replace that!!! I would be hard pressed to suggest anyone buy from Atomos if that is their after sale treatment of a customer.
The trouble is that I have to switch HDCP off in the PS4 settings before it can show on the Ninja V (just like if you're recording with an Elgato) but I can't access that menu if I can't see the menu first of course!
Is it me? Why is the Atomos Ninja V quirky when it comes to audio playback? Before and during recording audio levels are visible in the display. However once clips are recorded, there is no way to hear audio of the recorded video. Yet, audio is heard on the camera sd card? Further, when pulling the clips off the SSD drive into the computer, no audio is heard in Quicktime. The only time audio of Ninja V recorded clips can be heard is when the clips are played in an NLE. Then, it's revealed that even though clips are monitored on Ch1 & Ch2, they are recorded on ch3 & ch4. Yup. audio clips cannot be played back on the tracks they are recorded from. Damn inconvenient to have to pull the SSD card out of the Ninja to be certain of the audio. Spoke to Atomos at PhotoExpo today, but no one could really speak to the issue. Is this normal for Atomos recorders? Is there a workaround?

Great video, as always. would you mind doing a watch collection overwiev of your watches? i see you´ve got the nostalgic but at the same time not nostalgic casio g Shock. what happend to your rolex?
Warning! Potentially idiotic question ahead: I have never used an external recording device so I'm not sure how they work but could the Ninja V coax 4k 50p from say a Nikon z6 that is only capable of 4k 25p? Does it "hi-jack" the sensor or is it limited to whatever resolution and frame rate the camera can save, except that it can use better encoding? Anyone that has insight is more than welcome to answer! Thanks!
Have received a reply on another video and will post it here just in case anyone else hade the same question: "Sadly the recorder is still limited by what the camera can output." In other words; no witchcraft or magic of any kind...

That's why Kai uses Word Press himself at his website ;-)

Yep Phil but that pink lens is a bit suspicious, if you get my drift.

5:22 how the hell do i eat this thing?

Lmao didn't even notice that
I just love how lok is in the background giving zero fks about you recording and trying to figure out how to eat the sandwich

You want her to look at you like she's going to eat you?
Great Video What lens did you use for the video?
5:24 can we all appreciate how hard lok is trying to put that sandwich in his mouth?
Haha I noticed that! 🤣🤣
Around 7:15 we see the Fuji X-T3 with the f/0.85 lens - will there be a video with this camera and lens? I hope so!

Does prores have any problems for windows users who use davinci or premiere?
Let's be real here... Kai is the ultimate Ninja... 👋👋🔪🔪⚔️⚔️
Thinking I'm going to have to pick up one of these things. Seems awesome and it'd solve every quibble I've gotten used to with my beloved a6300.
What lenses were you using when goofing around outside with the GH5?
Do you need the 4K60p Atomos cables for it to work? Or is this only for 4K60p recording. Can you use cheaper cables for 4K30p for example.
Can you use tap focus on the atomos ninja v? (Not the focus peaking)
Why are you and Lok split screen at breakfast 5:53 just curious ?
Is it the Ninja V split screen GH5 ?

Is anyone having trouble being able to change the fps on the monitor? I'm using the a6500 and it won't allow me to change fps..
Kai, you could have used the Ninja as a screen for the PS4 - absolute versatility!
The trouble is that I have to switch HDCP off in the PS4 settings before it can show on the Ninja V (just like if you're recording with an Elgato) but I can't access that menu if I can't see the menu first of course!

Do you normally use ProRes LT for RUclips videos?
I love the footage from Ninja 5 what lens did you shot Lok close-up with?
Its surprising i cant find the user manual for Ninja V. If any of you have a link please share
So like this works with the Sony a7s right I'm mainly using it for the ability for 4k I just want to make sure it's possible
ninja v footage look so nice, do recommend to buy this or another monitor because it is not cheapest one?
Love you kai it's 1 am in India but i love you i will sleep after watching your video love your ninja style
Love you kai
But... do you love him?
I think I saw one of those pink 40mm 0.85 lenses that Kai talks about while at the show.
Thanks for this video! Can you shoot 4k 60p using the Sony A73?
Nop :(
nice to see lok and kai together in one video again...and nice to see Lok eating :D

So does the sony face recognition AF still works if record 4K internally / externally via this monitor ? Thanks in advance!
are you going to review the black magic pocket cinema?
Super cool, that piece of gears seems to be (I think).
Had to rewatch bits as the sandwich eating was so amazing 😂
I've stayed in the Dorint in Koelnmesse too and got upgraded. No idea why either!
Nice to see video evidence of Lok with food, however it warrants further investigation before we can conclude that he actually eats.
LOL, the ending with the room tour was great :-)
Hey man, did you just show off your analog watch?! Cheers!
The best part of this video was the dude Kai was eating with trying to eat that sandwich
How do you transfer the recorded video from the Atomos to the Mac/PC for editing?
For a slight moment I kind of expected some bowling with a small plastic toy set. And glass bowl product shots at the end 🤣
How do you guys get to 4k on the ninja V with sony a6500
The long corridor in your hotel is reminding me of the twin scene in the shining, ahh
Legendary couple! Lok and Kai 💪
I want that red color Angelbird ssd! But it only comes in silver😭😭😭
No product shots of a yellow glass bowl? Disappointment exceed anticipation.
Why did the glass bowl box have an airhole?
why are you turning super saturated towards the end of the video?

Will this improve the quality of a Sony A7S II ? If so , can it record at 4k @60 FPS ?
