I’ve never heard of these “Fechen Tarts” before! 😮 I’m sure I would get some cheeky comments here in the States if I invited some folks over for a Cuppa and a Fechen Tart 🫢 🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣😂🥧☕️Thanks for sharing. 💕🇺🇸
Hi from Canada 🇨🇦 This is such an easy recipe, thanks Cheryl. They are lovely while still warm with a bit of whipped cream, on a day when I can't be bothered to do custard 😊
Ha!...I've been dithering around here all morning for no apparent reason and this just dropped, an unexpected treat!...Now I'm off, and I intend to use "ecclefechan tart!" at least once in traffic before noon...Thanks much!
Hi Cheryl it’s only me from down south ~ as soon as the notification flashed up with the title I had to jump on quickly- I seriously seriously cannot believe you are showing this recipe. I have waited to see someone making these for the last several years - I can only get these in Sainsbury’s but only at the end of November going into December. I buy these every year now and I absolutely love them. There is nothing better - I hope you’re okay and that you’ve had a good week. ~ sending loads of love and hugs as always. ~ Xxx Xxx
Now in the West Country, my father used to live in Ecclefechan and every Xmas we had to have some! Great, I’m going to check out your recipe so I can make them any time of year.
Lovely! We used to get Echelfechan Tarts sent to us in the Mail a few years back. I will definitely give these a go. We used to eat ours with clotted cream….🤪
Those look delicious Cheryl, I’ve never tried an Ecclefechan tart, & might just give these a go.😋 A perfect time to post this recipe, just in time for Canada’s Thanksgiving coming up at the weekend.🇨🇦 A perfect autumn dessert & a tasty precursor for mince pie season. I bet the aromas coming from your kitchen were fantastic whilst these were baking!☺️ Those tart tins look the ideal size for making these beauties! As always, thanks for sharing 🙏 & enjoy the rest of your week, xx 👩🏻🍳🥧😋👌💕💞💖
Look fabulous, can't wait to try them. I've been to Ecclefechan lol. I'm a custrd fan, so I'll be making homemade custrd to go with them. Thank you for sharing Cheryl xxx
Good morning Cheryl From Australia As you know my husband is Scottish he says yummy As well he said when he was little growing up in kirn Scotland the boys and girls at the children's home used to say Eddefechan as a Swear word .😂 Now I have to go by a tart tin and pastry cutter ready for Christmas to make these . Have a nice weekend
Thank you for this recipe. You have inspired me. I like to make fruit tarts for breakfast or afternoon snack. Will be trying your recipe this coming week.
Whoa Cheryl I love an Ecclefechan Tart , I usually buy Walkers from the shops in Drummore and Portpatrick but due to mobility issues haven't been able to do those shops anymore and it would be a 40 mile round trip from the caravan , my mother used to make a similar thing called Taffy Cakes bit like the Curd Tarts of Yorshire , gosh I'm drolling thinking of a EF and clotted cream 😊❤😊❤😊
Thank you Cheryl for this recipe. These tarts look amazing. Love the name. I have many recipes from my Scottish Grandmother and Aunt but never heard of these. It is Thanksgiving here in Canada this weekend. Definitely going to make some for one of our desserts. Yum!!
Hi Cheryl, I just found your channel around a week ago ,subscribed almost immediately and have been binge watching since. I’m also from Ayrshire. Loving your videos ❤
OOOOOOh, yummy looking. TY . I'm gonna bake these with the OJ. The squirrels carried off all of my walnuts and hazelnuts just before the storm hit last Friday. Love ya.
It’s good to know your nut harvest didn’t go to waste in the storm. You’ve no doubt made a good few squirrels happy & well fed for the coming winter!🐿️💚🐿️💛🐿️🧡🌰
I have had Eccles cakes (mincemeat enclosed in puff pastry.) These look lovely and I have that same pan, so will definitely give these a try. Love mince tarts!
Well done Cheryl! Yorkshire pudding tins. Be-ro call them butter tarts but don't have whisky! Love them! Buy them when I can find them! When I go on bus trips to Scotland Ecclefechan is one of name's I look out for.
I'm convinced Ecclefechan Tarts are what Canadian Butter Tarts were based on. They're so similar to my family recipe for Butter Tarts (no corn syrup or golden syrup involved like the modern recipes for them, just the brown sugar as the sweet component).
As a sassenach I’m used to mince pies. No more… I made Ecclefechan tarts last Christmas and there’s no going back. These are so superior it’s not even a fair contest so I’m afraid if anyone wants mince pies at my house, bring your own!
When I saw this recipe, I thought it was a Welsh one! I'm sure you know Eccles cakes, but the Welsh word 'Fechan' means 'little', so I thought they were Little Eccles Cakes! But I have to say, they look fab and I could smell that lovely aroma coming from them!! Making some very soon, I can tell you!
Hi from Colorado!! These look delicious and I am going to try to make them! Can you tell me where I can order the tart pan? Also, do you have a recipe for the sweet short crust pastry?? Is it just a pie crust? I love your channel!! ❤️

She's gone now but what a baker. I love to bake too just wondered. Those tarts look delicious I like to try bake what she did in In New England. Strawberry tarts also. Thanks Cheryl Denise
When I first heard you pronounce the name of this dessert, I thought you were swearing! 😂 Sorry, just my odd sense of humour. Thanks for sharing this yummy recipe x

Great, I’m going to check out your recipe so I can make them any time of year.
How do you get to Ecclefechan ? You get the Feckin bus!
First thing that came to mind also.
Haha….love this!!

I love Ecclefechan tart, must try this.
Lovely! We used to get Echelfechan Tarts sent to us in the Mail a few years back. I will definitely give these a go. We used to eat ours with clotted cream….🤪
Were they the Walkers ones ?
@@Northernlights-gv4vx can’t remember the brand, but they were ordered via a company called Scottish Gourmet, who have now ceased trading

Great video - everything you need to know, nothing you don’t and moved right along. These look delicious - will make!
I made these as per your recipe. Absolutely delicious. Many thanks Cheryl 😊
Reminds me of the Canadian butter tarts. Will give yours a try

Hi Cheryl, I just found your channel around a week ago ,subscribed almost immediately and have been binge watching since. I’m also from Ayrshire. Loving your videos ❤
Real dark sugar, in the US it keeps getting lighter, they look delicious, of course I would have mine with custard
Adding a teaspoon of molasses fixes the light brown sugar problem.
These look delicious
I don't usually get any mine pies until Christmas, so I may give these a try. Thank you for sharing the recipe!
OMG these look soooo delicious 😋
OOOOOOh, yummy looking. TY . I'm gonna bake these with the OJ. The squirrels carried off all of my walnuts and hazelnuts just before the storm hit last Friday. Love ya.

Hi Cheryl. Those look gorgeous 😊 they look like mince pies🎉
This tart is very similar of our Canadian butter tart less the orange juice and whisky . Looks so yummy !
I have had Eccles cakes (mincemeat enclosed in puff pastry.) These look lovely and I have that same pan, so will definitely give these a try. Love mince tarts!
Ooh these look so good, thank you for the recipe 😊
Absolutely LOVE them . Much much nicer than mince pies. ❤❤❤
Could depend on the quality of the mincemeat…I use my great grandma’s recipe. However, these look worth a try!
ooooh, so tempting
Well done Cheryl! Yorkshire pudding tins. Be-ro call them butter tarts but don't have whisky! Love them! Buy them when I can find them! When I go on bus trips to Scotland Ecclefechan is one of name's I look out for.
Ooh lovely..hubby would love these…far to many syns for me..😁
Will be making these! Thanks so much!❤️

I was thinking that as I watched. The egg and butter with the dried fruit is very reminiscent
Ill make these for my son❣️ He's so unwell, Cheryl 😢
Aw no, I'm very sorry to hear that Melany 😥 xxx
Sorry to hear your Son’s so unwell Melany, hopefully he’ll enjoy your tarts & they help raise his spirits. xx 💕💞
This recipe is going to replace my mince pies at Christmas. I think what convinced me was the orange and walnuts.
These look very similar to Butter Tarts, which are a Canadian treat. My grandma always made them.
Very timely I love Ecclefhechan and it looks like Sainsbury’s are not doing them this year❤
As a sassenach I’m used to mince pies. No more… I made Ecclefechan tarts last Christmas and there’s no going back. These are so superior it’s not even a fair contest so I’m afraid if anyone wants mince pies at my house, bring your own!
My, that was a lovely colored egg yolk! Not a huge fan of mixed, dried fruit, but might not mind this with raisins and dried cranberries.
Hoo, these look delicious!
Going to give these a go
oh looks so good :)

The place my Dad always made us pronounce on our way home to Glasgow, to make sure although we spoke with English accents we didn't forget our roots.
Hello everyone!
👋👋
They're known as fecking Eccles cakes in our family! Very delicious though.
Yum❤
Cheryl could I use honey instead of Lyons golden syrup with digestive biscs for it to stick. My auntie Jean in kirkintilloch made Tiffin with it
Melted chocolate over the whole traybake. She's gone now but what a baker. I love to bake too just wondered.
Those tarts look delicious I like to try bake what she did in
In New England. Strawberry tarts also.
Thanks Cheryl
Denise
They are like Canadian butter tarts! They are made with just raisins, not the other mix ins!
Yummy.😋
A giant mince tart!
❤❤❤
Love your cakes love your food full stop you could cook for me any day
I really did think for a second there that she was saying to double the whiskey in place of the whiskey. Lol
Does anyone know where to buy a 4 tart pan like the one used in this video? I could not find on Amazon.
Question, I'm allergic to nuts, can you just add more dried fruit to make up the difference?
Cheryl, where did you find the cutter please? Thank you from the Cunningham clan
When I first heard you pronounce the name of this dessert, I thought you were swearing! 😂 Sorry, just my odd sense of humour. Thanks for sharing this yummy recipe x
😋
Are these the same as mince pies .
No. Mincemeat has no eggs, it is usually made well in advance and put in jars to mature. Then it is simply put into the pastry case.
Who doesn’t like Eccle Tarts…?
🙂😋❤
New one for me! Looks good, can you fax me a couple over Cheryl? LOL
Snowballs please
