    Wouldn’t it be cool to walk into a store and just buy David Gilmour’s tone in a box? Well, now you can! Robert Keeley’s Dark Side boldly promise to provide the full experience and magic of David’s classic mid 70s sound. Here’s my review.
    How do you present a signature sound in one single box? How can you capture not only the actual tone but also the feel of owning and operating something close to the original vintage gear? We’re talking about perhaps the most recognisable tone in the history of modern music and guitar playing.
    But you can always expect something special from Robert Keeley. The bar is high but few seems to really understand tone as much as him.
    The Dark Side is the second in a new line of artist inspired pedals. As the name implies, the pedal is designed to capture the essence of David Gilmour’s tones from Dark Side of the Moon, as well as Wish You Where Here and Animals.
    The Dark Side has two sections, fuzz and modulation/delay. They can be used simultaneously and the different modulation effects and the delay, is selected with a toggle switch. The rear features the usual in/out jacks, as well as TRS send/returns for additional pedals, expression pedal and for swapping the order of the fuzz and modulation/delay sections.

    Another great demo. Thanks for your dedication Bjorn.
    Am I correct in thinking that I will require an external delay to work alongside this unit, in order to get the correct combination of effects because the Darkside doesn't allow certain combinations?

    • @Goldhand28
      @Goldhand28 7 лет назад

      If you want Delay and Modulation at the same time then yeah. It does not allow you to use the modulation and delay effects at the same time.

    • @LysanderLH
      @LysanderLH 7 лет назад +1

      ***** but.....but... what? Combinations of these effects are the keystone of the Gilmour tone.

    • @TG-kc9ue
      @TG-kc9ue 7 лет назад

      There are also limits to a pedal's functionality, I don't think Keeley deliberately wanted to stifle multi-effects usage :P

    • @LysanderLH
      @LysanderLH 7 лет назад +3

      Zach Martin So make a pedal with all of the functions but then don't connect two of them? I'm no pedal builder but delay and modulation are entirely necessary in order to obtain the combinations used by Gilmour. Time, Money, Comfortably Numb, Animals.... it's impossible to get these sounds without combining Delay and Modulation. I think a V2 or 'Animals' pedal might be a wise move.

    • @TG-kc9ue
      @TG-kc9ue 7 лет назад

      Darryld1 I'll say it again; there are limits to a pedal's functionality! In theory someone could make a pedal with every single effect under the sun, all analog, and separate footswitches for each effect. It's not going to happen though, is it? Why? Because it's impractical. As I said before, I doubt Keeley thought "I'll really mess with some people's heads here and DELIBERATELY neglect to add in functionality that I could easily add in". Most likely he thought "this is a good overview of tones and anyone looking to *really* capture Gilmour sounds will probably have a delay pedal anyway"

    Brooo i have a question and i really need help. So I just got my Keeley Dark Side and im not sure if it came with a malfunction or not but ive been going through so many videos on this pedal and it seems like no one is having this problem. So when Im on the delay mode when i change to certain levels my pedal is like lagging or having a latency effect. Like when i play a string itll play it like 1 second late especially on LEVEL 4-5. Im not sure if this is part of the pedal or what but can you please let me know. Like do i send it back or what??

    • @gilmourishofficial
      @gilmourishofficial  5 лет назад

      If your the delay level up you will get more of the delayed signal and less of the dry. That’s the nature of delay effects. It’s usually much higher settings than 4-5 though. Need to check my Dark Side...

      Please let me know because i dont want to have a messed up pedal. I'd return. I bought it on Sweet Water so i cant just take it back. I'd have to shit it back . & Also i though each delay level had its own effect?? the more you go the more it changes? like its very diverse?? correct me if im wrong.

    until someone makes the mod and delay and fuzz available all at once, what is the point?

    • @Tyrannosaurine

      What’s the point if it’s not going to have 7 concurrent fuzzes all going at once and then modulated to sound like a baboon slapping on wildebeest testicles?!
      What the point?!?

    the only problem is that you cant save the settings for each song. So if you are on stage you need time to setup every tone between each song.

      I don’t see this as a stage unit but more something you’d practice and have fun with at home.

      I think it does although I would have wanted a more mellow sounding fuzz or an overdrive.

    Too expensive and limited to only 2 effects at a time. Still, not bad, I have a delay pedal so this could work. Thoughts? Or should I just buy 3 separate pedals instead like a fuzz/muff, phaser, and compressor for what this single pedal costs?

    • @gilmourishofficial
      @gilmourishofficial  6 лет назад +2

      Depends on how accurate you want to be. Although limited, considering that they've cramed all those sounds into one tiny pedal is impressive and it's a fun thing to use at home when you just want to play along with your favourite Floyd tunes. The fuzz in here is one of the best I've played. For the more accurate and versatile Gilmour sounds, I'd go for separate pedals. See the Buyer's Gear Guides on my site gilmourish.com for some tips.

      agree- it is a fun pedal- but for the $300 I rather have individual pedals- fuzz, vibe, and echo delay.

      Clean, Fender or HiWatt type amps with lots of headroom to be used as a pedal platform.

      To some extent yes. You might want to add an overdrive as well.

    • @gilmourishofficial

      Tonewise it’s fully capable but it might be difficult to effectively get all tve tones working without much tweaking during songs or at least between songs.

    • @gilmourishofficial
      @gilmourishofficial  2 года назад +1

      It’s focused on the 70s Floyed. It’s missing an overdrive, which is typical 80s and 90s Floyd. You can of course add that.
