    Dear Ghosts,
    For the camera nerds I have included my small emblem at the bottom right of the screen in case you want to know which camera was used for which scene. I only swapped cameras for the junkyard scene. Red is the BMCC6kFF and pink is the Sigma FP. Everything except macro was shot on the Milvus 35mm.
    I've been receiving a lot of comments about lens recommendations and i hope this video can answer some of those questions. The Milvus 35mm f1.4 is very impressive and my recommended lens for anyone that wants an image comparable to mine but doesn't want to spend the cash for an Otus. Mind you I havent received any free products (yet) and everything I have posted up to this point is my honest opinion. The lens is similar to the Zeiss Otus 28mm, but they are not the same. I would guess the lens is about 200-400k cooler, less contrast, less color accurate, and less 3d pop. Very slight. Color accuracy is the most valuable asset for me especially because i prefer naturalistic grades, however I would still totally use this lens because i prefer 35mm over 28mm. My favorite focal length is 40mm. This is a high value long term lens, and the best overall value to performance ratio in my opinion, can buy used for 800-1200 USD easily. Thank you for this detailed break down and demo. I originally learned filmmaking on a camera with about a 48mm equivalent, and so I have always preferred longer lenses with more compression. 35mm was always an enigma to me, and your description and analysis not only PERFECTLY explained everything I was feeling about this lens, but gave me a way in - an understanding of how I can embrace these awkward/ambiguous qualities and utilize this focal length in the future. Thank you so much!!!

    I really like going the manual, vintage route if I'm shooting for fun! A lot of times, I want something more stylized whenever I'm trying to relax and take some simpler shots of family or candid stuff. However, I almost only use Sony GM lenses for professional work. I have no idea where this obsession over creative lenses came from lol. Roger Deakins loves to shoot on incredibly clinical, spherical lenses. I've had the mindset of capturing the highest quality raw footage I can, and then if I want to add distortion, softness, vignette, CA etc then I can do that in post. Of course there are special times where you'll want an effect in camera, but my personal collection of lenses are all very clinical except for one adapted Voigtlander.

    • @cleverghostchili
      @cleverghostchili  2 месяца назад +2

      I think this is just the nature of algorithm based short form content. Character and color contrast will pop, rewarding you for catering toward short attention spans. But if you try to use said look for anything longer than 5 minutes it begins to really become distracting and detrimental to the story in my opinion. Character is also generally cheaper and an easy path for interesting visuals

    Interesting video and thoughts. Nice work. I have a mix Milvus/Otus set also. In a professional filming environment, the 28mm Otus is my preferred lens because the focus pullers prefer the focus throw. The Milvus 25mm and 35mm are sharp like the Otus but they have chromatic aberrations, which the Otus doesn’t. The Otus is comparable with a far more expensive Master Prime while the Milvus is comparable (the same optics) as a CP.3

    • @cleverghostchili
      @cleverghostchili  2 месяца назад

      I love the Otus 28 focus throw. I believe the cp3 are slower at t2.1 so maybe you mean the milvus 35 f2? I know my milvus 15mm f2.8 is optically the same as the Zeiss classics except the coating. Really hope Zeiss considers making an ultra wide Otus or a 40mm

    Interesting perspective and it's a refreshing take. Roger Deakins would agree with you. However, lenses are a tool. I would say that focal length is an extremely important decision to make when trying to understand the type of story you are telling. The quality of lenses, character and all of that, that comes second. But do not underestimate the value of an appropriate lens for an appropriate story. They are tools. If I wanted something stark and neutral then, yes, a 35mm is going to be an appropriate lens for that. What if I am doing something highly stylised and expressionist? I'm going to go either super long tele or super wide. They are tools.

      I live in China. This is a recent construction site where the government often buys residents homes to rebuild them with other complexes or parks. So the aerial shots and the location are the exact same place months apart

    6:20 THIS IS INSANE! How in the hell did you shoot this? I'm guessing that's the FP simply because I refuse to believe the BMPCC is capable of shooting in that dim of a setting. Can the camera see this well in dark with f1.4 glass?
    Edit: I just checked that the Milvus 1.4 is a T1.7 lens which makes this even more baffling.

    • @cleverghostchili
      @cleverghostchili  2 месяца назад +1

      Sigma FP, I’ve marked the scenes with a red logo for bm and purple logo for sigma in the bottom right. F1.4 and I believe 800 iso. There’s really negligible noise and I barely used NR, I could have lifted the image more but didn’t just for better RUclips compression. But it also helps when heavy mist diffuses your light everywhere and the light is directly hitting the camera

    • @shueibdahir
      @shueibdahir 2 месяца назад

      @@cleverghostchili Wait what? ISO 800 only? That's pretty impressive. I thought it would've been ISO 6400. That's how impressive it looks.

    • @cleverghostchili
      @cleverghostchili  2 месяца назад

      @@shueibdahir my mistake I scrolled to the wrong section of the video. 6:20 is 12800 ISO with medium strong NR. Didn’t lift at all here

    • @cleverghostchili
      @cleverghostchili  2 месяца назад +1

      @@shueibdahir I would check it out here first as compression reduces the appearance of noise on RUclips. It’s still usable as you can see, random noise pattern, chroma noise, worse than Sony at 12800 but better at other isos. Still very good under exposure camera, 800 iso can safely go -2 with decent color shift. 100 iso like -5. vimeo.com/942173522
