Dear Ghosts,
Trying a few experimental things for this video including pacing music and framing. Focus pulling for some shots is also a bit green as i got a new monitor. There are some inconsistencies with a few frames as I once again re-graded this project but ended up going back to the original again. So pardon a few frames with over contrast and saturation. Although i was very tempted to do a heavier grade, i ended up feeling that i should use rec709 to give a more natural representation. I am aware that i did not do blue hour justice, but i think you can still get the gist of it. Also here you can see the true dynamic range of the sigma FP. It's actually quite capable but the problem is colorshifting is noticeable when you overexpose. The super35 mode on Sigma is also very good and sharp, very surprising, not sure what magic is going on there.
I don't want to start a war that some light is better than another, i've just watched some really beautiful films with natural light that i think has really changed my perspective so i hope this video can do the same for others as well. These films include scenes from Burning (2019), Arrival, The Innocents (2021), Nomadland and many more. This sounds like a love story between you and light, very heartfelt, meticulous, and comforting !! You've just earned another subscriber
Glad to have you along for the ride
beautiful all around. love it.
wow, so cool, here I loved the vibes, I loved the lights, I loved the darkness

In times of people generally thinking / believing that buying more / new gear improves their work (which is obviously not the case per-se) it need a reminder, that usually all you need is THERE. Shooting an epic video with your phone is totally possible, when the scene and the light are right!
The most important tool at your disposal will always be your eye
@@cleverghostchili Oh yes. Nothing more to add :-)
Love the pace of the images, and the dedication and sense that you offer to light, to the light. Thank you.
winter sun? Dude, in Lapland there is no sun in winter 😁 But yeah, thanks for the inspiration, instant SUB!!! 🙏
Sign me up! So hot here…
Ah love the format of this. Your work inspires me a lot and I'm really drawn to your grading style.
I loved the interiors section particularly in the (lecture / theatre?) hall.
I could say the same about your stuff. We are nothing without the muses
Any decent cinematographer should be able to make natural lighting look amazing. job well done!
I thank you
Back ground music 🎶 music 🎵 is so beautiful!
Your video style is unmatched! Hard to put so much valueable information in a video without it becoming too clinical, but you nailed it!
Maybe next time I will wake up early for sunrise. Maybe…

cinematic lighting is everywhere!!!
The reason why the super35 in the FP is sharper than the full frame is that when you are shooting the entire sensor it gives you a 6K oversample and with that comes a little softness. Instead, shooting super35 means that the 4K is a 1:1 readout, so you have a real 4K instead of an oversampled image and the result is sharper than the full frame.
Awesome video thank you
Thanks for watching
That was absolutely brilliant. I totally agree with you on all points.
Light is sorrow and shade is comfort
A balance, there is no dark without light and vice versa
what a beautiful love story
wow, cool vibes, I loved the lights, I loved the darkness
Fantastic! You make some of the best cinematography videos on youtube!
Truely inspiring
Like it a lot!
Great tips and advice. Your video is really inspiration for my projects.
What a beautiful video & story!! filled my need for inspiration, thank you!
Happy filming!
Very nice video
Briliant 🔥🔥🔥
Just incredible bro
Too kind, glorified vlogging
love this!
Brilliant...
Beautiful job my brother! Like always your content never disappoints.
PS: The music for every shot...just perfect.
Glad you liked it! I’ve currently made the music available for download for free
insanely good.
One of my favorites of your videos. Keep it up
Love received
Natural light is the best light! Frame at 7:23 is 😍
Thanks Keith! I like this shot as well
You nailled it. Hope to see more in your style.
Sugar, spice and everything nice
Awesome🎉🎉🎉 continue plssss🎉🎉🎉
Beautiful man! Absolutely loved it!
Your support is overwhelming!
I love the term 'scavenging for light'
also love how you go over emotional and contextual applications of the different scenarios!
It really does feel like that sometimes, watching light bounce on a familiar object in different times of day. Definitely more interesting than watching grass grow
@@cleverghostchili ohh i should try this with spots i find, never thought about returning at a diff time of day
wow!
Thank you for sharing this valuable information
Thank you for watching
Really enjoying your videos dude!
Beautiful video
so so good
Amazing Ghost, my favorite out of all them is Blue hour 💙
Same, it’s just hard to get clean blue hour here 😭
Amazing look but also has a story

This look SO good! Well done!
Thank you!
This looks sooooo organic 🤯
We need a breakdown on how you film and edit this man. Fr you are so talented.
My man is so damn talented it's insane. This is my favourite video yet :)!
The goal is always each video better than the last
This is awesome
Awesome vid as usual, dude.
Glad you enjoyed!
fantastic
dude that looks incredible! that's your color workflow? you using any luts? wow.
i have a tutorial on how i do a basic grade with the FP, which should get you to around 80% of the way here: ruclips.net/video/1JNb4TsCA2w/видео.html
For the title scenes, ambient lighting section I used CleverLUTs, which I've made free for download for the moment, can download in the discord
Hi, you have quickly become my favorite content creator. You are a source of inspiration to me. Did you use Zeiss Otus here too?
Thank you, I hope to keep making compelling content Yes, almost exclusively the 28mm, I don’t use any other lenses besides the Otus
Thank you @@cleverghostchili
This felt good on the eyes
Food for the soul
👏👏👏👏
Your Work is impressive. Subbed 💯💯
Your comment gives me strength
I think what amaze me more is how brilliantly you expose your footage in each scenarios. I, for one, have difficulty to balance the shadows and highlight indoor and outdoor using my eyes when exposing using LOG. What did you use to make it up? Do you use false colour or any trick regarding this? I also need to remove my bad habit of trying to expose details in every scene. As you said, sometimes, sillhouettes can enhance the image cinematically.
The sigma FP shoots cdng raw so it’s not log, if your camera allows it I’d suggest you use a monitoring lut while filming to help you out. However the most important exposure tool for me is false color, which I implement to prevent clipping of highlights. It’s okay to have crushed blacks but clipped highlights are more distracting. If you underexpose your image, you may find that you have a better starting point and contrast in your grading process. That being said, the sigma FP is an excelllent underexpose camera, but I would not want to underexpose with some cameras like the blackmagic as it is very noisy.
@@cleverghostchili I see. I didn't think of underexposing the image. I always thought that it would be harder to get back some details in the post-grading. But I guess it will focus you more on the final look. Not on tiny little details. Great advice. Thank you. I will keep it in mind.
It is hard to get detail back sometimes, but depending on the situation particularly backlit scenes, you dont need to and just have black silhouettes. Best of luck, happy shooting!@@ANRALOGI
Nice Shots Man... Keep posting Your camera is Sigma FP. right ??/ THats an amazing camera and of course the man behind the camera is everything in cinematography
I have a few cameras, this one was shot on the sigma FP I usually say at the end of the video or in the description
너의 영상은 언제나 특별하다! 💖
Gamsahabnida! May visit Korea again
Magical!!! These days there is a wave of Filmmaking Videos/Tutorials due to cinema cameras being budget friendly. And in those videos they focus on selling only 2 things the Camera and the other thing is Lighting. It feels weird, right?
This is what feels like fresh air in the domain.
Natural light isn’t really profitable. Creators need to get paid as at the end of the day it’s hard to make this craft sustainable otherwise, I rarely hate the player
@@cleverghostchili I mean Pushing a narrative for Beginners who are shooting short films on ultra low budget and who see these creators as their Idols/Mentors. They even clickbait with thumbnails and titles mentioning before mentioned topics. This is what I'm concerned about.
@@thisisAmitPatil gotcha, I think camera and lighting are really all you need to start going, I have always been barebones minimalistic! Less interference between you and the frame
@@cleverghostchili Yes Exactly! As a novice filmmaker operating on a shoestring (~500$) budget, I recognize my constraints, prohibiting me from splurging on studios or elaborate sets. My filming canvas comprises public spaces-streets, cafes-employing guerrilla filmmaking tactics. While I occasionally secure unrestricted locations, reserved for pivotal shots, the techniques from your insightful video become indispensable for the essential, budget-friendly scenes. Genuine contributors like you, avoiding clickbait and truly practicing what they preach, are pivotal in fostering a community of authentic guidance.
Love You Team 'Ghost Chili'.
Constraints will actually spur more creativity. Too many options can be paralyzing
Hi, i love your channel. Which camera was this shot on?
Sigma FP. I usually leave tech info in description and end of video
Mate, firstly I love your channel and content! I have to say that the music you make is exactly what I'm looking for on music licensing sites but can never, ever find it. Do you license your music or is there a way I could use it in my wedding videos / social? Thanks!
Hi there, I’ve have made my music available as a Creative Commons license, so you can only use it with non commercial work like RUclips as long as you credit me, but if you want to monetize content with the music we can work something out in DMs. The library is constantly expanding, you can find more info in the description
@@cleverghostchili thanks mate, I might do that down the track.
loved this video plus ive never seen a video shot on a sigma camera before
Such a fascinating camera
@@cleverghostchili agreed. Very unique
So how did you grade on this one then? Just the 709 conversion + a few tweaks? Just so good.
Hi, the chapter scenes use my CleverLUTs and some interior scenes, the rest are all rec709. I have a colorgrading guide with the sigma FP where I go into more detail. Contrast ratio is high so you have to do a reverse s curve or lift your mid tones
Got it got it. Those final interior shots are mesmerising.
Hi, did you ever try Zeiss Otus 1.4/85 ? I use the same lens set(28,55,85 and Milvus 2.8/18mm with Zeiss Lens Gear) 😊😊
I haven't! I normally prefer wider focal lengths, I'm definitely consider one of the milvus lenses, wish there was one more Otus focal length between 28 and 55
@@cleverghostchili Handled focusing with the Otus 85 is much more difficult than with the 55. The focusing range on the 55 was already longer than the 28, but with the 85 it's enormous. Handled focusing becomes almost impossible.
That’s hard to imagine as I already feel like I need tentacles to focus rack with the 55
Did you shoot this using the sigma fp?
Yes
What camera do you use?
Sigma FP, the info can also be found in description and credits
Why dont you make a short film with this camera.
hm...i've been thinking about making some short films on youtube, stay tuned
Any reason you chose the sigma fp vs the L?
FP has better overall performance for video
@@cleverghostchili do you feel like the photo performance is similar?
Well I don’t own the fpl but the fpl has olpf, better AF, more megapixels and better lowlight in certain conditions. They still both suffer from similar problems like banding. It’s still better for photography but you have to consider whether those advantages are relevant to you, and if so should you just end up getting a better dedicated photography camera. Taking photos with the sigma can be frustrating because you can’t monitor exposure accurately often underexposing. Exposure is extremely flexible in post, but when shooting it can be hard to see focus or minute details. Color science is fantastic on this camera, very accurate contrast starting point
