    This is my 2nd Keurig coffee maker of this model. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxBrV-RbF5Nk0Rlt9i15aao-YMzqzTG8Vf The first worked fine for more than 2 years, and I could still get a decent cup of coffee out of it if I fiddled with it when I decided to replace it. The problem I had with my first unit was this: When attempting to brew a cup of coffee, the unit would either keep brewing until the coffee was undrinkable or it would not run long enough and the coffee produced was way too strong. I cleaned the unit as best I could but it did not help. So in the end it was just too much trouble to get a good cup of coffee out of it, so I decided to replace it with a new one, which has been working great since I unpacked it.

    I love this machine. I am 70 cups in and havent had to go to the coffee shop yet. I am very impressed by the quality of these shots. So glad I purchased this when it was on sale with a $50 gift card. Whats even better there is an incredible amount of videos about this machine out there. Remember the burr settng WILL need to be adjusted in addition to the grind size.

    After weeks of testing with several beans (also hand roasted from smaller roasters) I can confirm what many other users said about this machine: The pressure gauge on the Barista Espress is misleading because you get the best results when the gauge shows that you are at the top maximum of the Espresso range. In the beginning I always tried to be in the middle of the grey "Espresso area" and that was the big problem. Maybe there are beans where the middle of the grey area is the optimum, but with all beans I've tested so far (10-15 different Espresso beans) the perfect extraction was always when the gauge showed the upper maximum of the Espresso range.
    So according to my experiences with this machine I can only give the advice to new owners of this machine: Completely ignore the pressure gauge! Try to find the correct grind settings where the extraction is round about 30 seconds with 1:2 brew ratio and much more important: Use a scale! Without a scale you have no chance in the beginning to find the correct settings. Use constant 18g -> ~36-40g Espresso and adjust the grind settings until you reach 30s extraction time. And be constant with your tamping. A distribution tool can really help with that.

    • @justgame5508
      @justgame5508 4 года назад +1

      Thunderbird1337 Completely agree my best results were when the pressure gauge was just towards the end of the separated grey lines, anything below that and the flow rate was far too fast and the espresso cane out sour and under extracted. Not got a weighing scale yet, but even without it I can still make a decent tasting espresso, I also don’t bother with the razor, it makes too much of a mess and wastes coffee

    • @Cmysteryman

      What are u weighing? The amount of beans? Does the machine not decide the grind amount?

    • @Cmysteryman
      @Cmysteryman 2 месяца назад

      What grind size are u using, I can't get it to increase pressure no matter what. I'm on the second finest grind size, am using a scale to ensure I do 15 to 20kg of pressure (which feels like a LOT) and yet it still reaches a small pressure then cuts off after 2-3 seconds (I'm using single measure in the portafilter) please help!

    • @Thunderbird1337
      @Thunderbird1337 2 месяца назад

      @@Cmysteryman You don't need so much pressure when tamping, that's nonsense. My guess is that your problem is channeling. If you grind too fine, the risk of channeling is high. Start in a medium setting of a grinder. And use a distribution tool (and maybe one of these things with fine needles to loosen the coffee) to be sure that the coffee has evenly distributed density before tamping. You can grind as fine as you want , as long as you have channeling problem, you don't get proper pressure.

    If anyone is watching this for research into buying a coffee machine. You will not get a better machine for the money. It even beats the pants of ones at 2k and 3k. Here is something to think about. I have had this machine now for a while, I have ground and made over 200 kg of coffee through it. That around 32 stone in weight with no issues. Wonder how many higher priced ones would need serviced even before half this weight.

    • @kieranhynes9741
      @kieranhynes9741 6 лет назад +3

      I'm glad you like your machine, but to say it's on a par with 2k or 3k machines is just nonsense. It's a cheapish single boiler domestic machine with all the problems of temp stability that come with all single boiler machines, cheap or otherwise.
      Also the grinder is just about ok at it's price point but doesn't give any real consistency that you'd get from something like a Niche Zero. Pair this with any entry level HX machine with a proper E61 grouphead and the difference will be night and day.

I`ve drank (pre ground ? idk english), nescafe (and "all" variants of that type), instant coffee and with or without milk, and sort of just went with it thinking "yup. this is coffee" . Now after getting myself this machine, I`m absolutelly godsmacked of how much of a difference in taste it makes. I cant stress enough that EVERYBODY!!!11 needs a machine like this. If you are a pre-ground / instant coffee / nescafe person reading this => Buy this / similar machine immediatelly! Everything else fades in comparison. Thanks very helpful. At the end you talk about storage of beans and discourage use of fridge or freezer because they're environments that are too moist. I respectfully disagree. They're indeed hugely dry environments as long as refrigeration is working! Water vapour will condense on the freeze panels and ice up. The science is clear.

    Great video, love the machine! The only thing I'm really having a hard time figuring out is the single espresso filter. When using the double filter, I get the perfect pressure and extraction amount (prefer upper part of the scale to get a longer extraction time). But when using the single filter this filter is very different and require a much courser grind size to be able to get a good extraction. This is a shame as constant adjustment to the grinder needs to be applied between the filters. The internal resistance in the filter seems to be VERY high. Also, oddly enogh, it takes a long time to pressure up this filter. When using the default extraction (30 ml), I only get optimal pressure on the last 1/3 of the extracted volume. This produces very poor espresso so I gave up and always uses the double filter with a 2/3 double extraction (programmed on the single shot button). Could this be a pump issue on my machine? It is brand new, only done 50 shots.

      you can increase the amount it dispenses with the knob on the front left. you can also manually grind by holding the portafilter on the grinder. pushing it once delivers adjustable single or double shots. holding it in grinds until you let go. one trick i learned from another video that i now do every time is only use the single-shot grind button. for doubles i just do a single shot, tamp, and then another single shot. this cuts down on grind spillage :-)

      I notice that mine is the same, extraction time is half of the "standard", whatever this is based on. Also,in the video the time also is 15 seconds from he starts the extraction and only 5 seconds from first drop until finished on the single espresso he makes. But he uses the single shot button on a double filter, so this will give a very short espresso as much water is left in the filter. On his double shot the time is 11 seconds until first drop and 25 seconds until shot is done (assuming no video editing was done in that cut scene :)

    I’ve just recently got one of these machines, I’ve watched a couple of these videos and from the look of things my coffee looks ok but for some reason it all tastes the same. I’ve used 3 different types of coffee from different local coffee shops and they’re all roasted around a month ago. The pressure gage isn’t looking to bad around the 1pm mark.
    Is there anything that I could be doing different to alter the flavour of the coffee?
    I know that it’s not my taste buds because I can tell the difference of coffee when I have one from a coffee shop.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated please ☺️

    The clean me mode is not working for me, do someone have an idea why? The problem is the supplied cleaning disc you have to put in the 1 cup portafilter. With it does not start the clean mode properly because no water pours, without the supplied cleaning disc starts to pour water properly.
    Can someone please help me? There’s no intention from Sage to Help due there’s no videos or manual in case of error and they don’t respond anything in social media.
    Many many thanks!

    Hi, Thank you for your video and your way of explaining. Really great! You made me love the machine and now I'm thinking seriously to get one but nowadays people are moving to coffee capsules claiming you always get the same taste and flavor every single cup. What do you think about that?

      I hope you did buy an espresso machine or make your coffee _any_ other way than using coffee pods/capsules. Espresso machines will give you a much better coffee and, over time, will end up costing you less money overall.
      But the biggest reason to not invest in pods/capsules is the absolutely _hideous_ environmental impact.

    I'd like to know why in the UK this has a price tag £100 higher than in the US, (prices from Respective Amazon sites), if it's because of the 'celebrity' endorsement by an experimental chef with more interest in making quirky rather than tasty food who furthermore has nothing whatsoever to do with coffee then I'd happily take the Breville rather than the 'celebrity chef' Sage, (which are identical in all but name).
    It royally pisses me off how people in this country lap up celeb chef endorsed crap and pay through the nose for it.

      UK tax 20%, compare to US sales tax. Among other things like higher living costs in UK.

      +spidiq8 As Husain said, it's mostly the sales tax. US sites don't include sales tax in their prices because each state has different tax rates. Also, us Europeans have very high VAT compared to the US, leading to higher prices.

      Since I always liked how the espresso looks in the Nespresso commercials, with the nice, thick crema in this cups of glass, I bought them. But soon after I went back to regular espresso cups. Glass doesn't keep the shot hot for very long. Regular, thick walled cups are far better.

    Can you also make americanos with this machine, allowing the water to run longer? We only drink black coffee, so this machine may be overkill for us?

    • @MassimoCerreto
      @MassimoCerreto 5 лет назад

      Of course you can make americanos with this machine too, by simply using the double filter and let the water run longer. But you should keep in mind, that a machine like this is intended primarily for preparation of espresso and all bevages depending on espresso, like latte or cappuccino. So, yes, it may be some kind of overkill for your type of usage.

    Very good video. I tried to follow all the steps, but I'm not able to get both parameters right at the same time: pressure and extraction time. I'm using the single filter and fresh beans. I wasted a lot of coffee to try different settings. Ultimately I ended up with grind size 7 which builds up to the perfect pressure and delivered the best taste. But unfortunately the extraction stops after approximately 16 sec. I've tried to switch the grind size towards the finer end of the settings and timed after every step I changed. I had to go down to grind size 1 (!) until the extraction time finally reached 25 sec. Don't need to mention that the taste of that shot was awful. Is there anything else I could try?

    • @happydaydreamer1
      @happydaydreamer1 2 года назад +1

      Have the exact same issue, this machine probably uses a very different extraction time than the default 25-30 seconds. Have not been even near this using the "correct" pressure. But coffee still taste best when around 11-12 o clock on the dial.

    • @OneAndOnlyMiklas
      @OneAndOnlyMiklas Год назад

      I got this one aswell about a month ago and you can programme the extraction time yourself. Hit programme, hit single or double and then let it run for however long you want and then hit single or double again and thats how it Will do it from then on

    • @MassimoCerreto
      @MassimoCerreto Год назад

      @@OneAndOnlyMiklas Yeah, but that's not the solution. When you set the extraction time you also modify the ratio. So in the end you hit the 25 sec. mark, but on a 1:4 ratio. That's not the goal.

    Mal ne Frage, warum ist die Durchlaufzeit nur 10 Sekunden?
    Bei mir ist das auch so (Druck ist perfekt) aber sagt man nicht normal 20-30?
    PS: Stell ich die Maschine auf 20Sekunden ist der Druck zu hoch und der Kaffee schmeckt bitter. Woran liegt das?

    Hello everyone. Can anyone tell me how can I make just two regular black coffees? When I push one espresso button and hold it for a moment, machine is giving me water for normal regular coffee, but when I use two cups sieve so more grounded coffee and I push and hold two coffee cups machine is not giving me enough water for two cups? Why it doesn't have one/two shots and one/two coffes buttons like for instance de Longhi magnifica s has?

    Hello, i have this machine and i found the perfect setting for a double shot. However, when i do a single cup it is different from the double shot? Is there a reason for this?

    • @MassimoCerreto
      @MassimoCerreto 5 лет назад

      Unfortunately you can't just half the setting of a double shot to get a likewise perfect single shot. Neither can you set the grind amount to double the settings you use for a single shot. Seems like the grinder doesnÄt work that linear.

    Why does the machine spill so much coffee powder every single time we make our fresh coffee powder grind, this is really not working well. Look at your own video from 2:32 - 2:34 and look at the amount of coffee powder that lands on the the machine grid...that is really not well done. There should have been added any form of plastic part to ensure it doesn't get spilled so hard. I am really not happy about that in my current stage of using the machine. Lots of cleaning involved and actually quite a perceivable spillage and waste over a longer period of time.
    Is there any way SAGE can try to work something out here and put it up for sale? Anything that prevents so much spillage?

    my machine is the same as yours, when it espresses, the indicator lands within the espresso range, and it gives me 1 cup, 250mL of coffee espresso, basically water, i've tryied so many settings, grind size and amout, nothing helps. and it keeps giving my extremely different results when i use same settings and beans.
