This video explained it the most thorough and quickest I’ve ever ever seen!! You were soo thorough but so simple with how you explained it! Wish I would’ve had this video when I was brand new to figuring it out!
Just bought a Breville today and I was struggling. This video was so much more informative than manufacturer’s instructions! After watching I was able to immediately make a fantastic latte. Thank you SO much!!
The manual is terrible, very disjointed. Definitely assumes you already know how to use an espresso machine in general, which I did not. First lattes I made were very drinkable and hit the sweet spot on pressure. Will only get better as my milk steaming technique improves.
The most useful work for Barista Express beginners in ten minutes, thank you. I made first espresso after watching this video... Thank you so much Ethan. You have prepared a very explanatory, fluent video and full of tips that others have not mentioned. Love it.
Update: finally got my machine yesterday and made my first latte today! It's SO good! Thanks for all this info! I wrote everything down and my very first coffee was a success! I just ordered an espresso machine and had no idea where to even begin! This has answered so many of my questions and I'll be writing these things down until ive got the hang of it 😁 thank you so much!
I’ve been around the espresso world for around two years and I know enough to make good coffee. I’m here just tell all of those how are new in espresso making ..this is a great video!! This dude did a great job on explaining the basics and fundamentals of how to use and extract espresso coffee. Such of great video!!
Got the machine yesterday. Had a bit of an idea on how to use it, but this made it all make sense. Now ordered a scale, so thanks for costing me another 50 quid!
i’ve had my machine for almost a year now and i’ve watched so many videos and i’ve literally never been able to make a good espresso without dialing at least 2-3 times first. i followed you step by step and it’s the first good espresso i’ve made on the first try!!!
This was genuinely an amazing video. Great pacing, straight to the point, amazing explanations. Your love for coffee was shining from this video and made me so excited to get started with this machine. 10/10 work! I would love to see another video going over more espresso tips if u have them!
I have the same exact Breville machine and it’s sitting in my basement on a shelf because I just couldn’t get my espresso right! This video was awesome and I’m getting my machine back out and following your video and making probably the best espresso I have ever made!! Thank you!! 😊
Just bought this machine and tried making espresso the coffee pick after the pour was coming out soupy than dry. This video helps a lot. Thank you. I'll try the steps and the tips explained for future brewing. Cheers
Este video es todo lo que necesitas cuando compras la barista express ❤❤❤. Thank you for sharing your knowledge ⭐️ greets from Playa del Carmen, Mexico!!!
Stupid question- when timing your 1:2 ratio, does it start when you hit the cup button (start brewing) or when you see the first drops of espresso emerge from portafilter?
Hey Ethan, I normally don’t comment on your videos but I just wanted to thank you for this amazingly informative video about not just this machine but also coffee in general. I’m planning on getting your FLUR espresso glasses soon and I can’t to use them! ❤
Ethan!! This video was very thorough and easy to understand!! Thank you for this! That was the exact espresso machine I was looking to getting later this year
Bro thank you so much. I was gonna buy this machine but i decided to wait for the new Ninja Luxe Espresso Machine, but now i think i’m gonna pull the trigger on the brevile
I love your videos, and don’t know where to post this, but one thing I think you should add to your collection is Turkish coffee. It’s probably my favorite way to drink coffee
Thanks, Ethan, great Video, question I watched a couple of other Videos, and they recommended changing the grinder default setting of 4 to 2, especially I mean inside the grinder itself internally below that Bean Hopper, not the grind size adjustment on the side, your thoughts?
Do you have tips how to set up the Sage Barista Express for a "normal' coffee? All tutorials are for espresso (like 40 ml) but I want to make a coffee (which is around 100 ml for me). Does the extraction time still counts for 25-35 sec? Or should it be longer? And what is the starting point? The moment you press the button or the moment the coffee comes out of the piston? Thank you very much! Best beginner's tutorial I've seen so far!
Dear Ethan, thank you very much for the valuable info. On 4:30 you give the extraction time for double shot basket, is it possible to mention it for single shot basket. Many thanks
Thanks for the video. You don't use the baskets that come with the machine because therefore pre-ground beans. You threw them aside and I didn't catch what baskets we are supposed to use for fresh ground beans?
Hesitant to comment and ruin the perfect 69 comment count - but this was an INCREDIBLE, well-explained yet succinct, super informative video. I’ve had my BBE since Dec of last year and thought I had it all down tbh, until watching this😂Really excited to incorporate these tips and precision into my next brew. answered so many questions i had. thank you!!!
Super interesting video! Question - I have the breville barista max and while the grinder can grind rly fine, the machine can't seem to create the pressure necessary to pull the shot. What can I do if I literally can't make the grind size finer without choking out the machine??
Hey Man, epic video! I'm still struggling with getting the pressure right. I have tried 18g of coffee and put the grind very fine and it's still not getting enough. Should I add more coffee? I belive there is a second grind option inside the bean chamber. Does this need to be adjusted at all?
If you are using the finest setting on the outside, you can adjust more from the inside. I’d look it up because it’s too hard to describe in a yt comment
Oh, dang. I'm a fast food barista who uses an automated machine. In fast food, money is more important than people as well as actual coffee. I couldn't imagine having to learn all the preliminary coffee knowledge plus recipes.😮💨😮💨😮💨
Great video, thanks, Ethan! I understand the concepts and how to react according to how I get my shots, but I have to say that, at least for my palate, I can only get to a non-bitter taste when I extract fast shots. Every time I get on the "sweet spot" for dose, ratio, type of beans, grinding and time, I end up with a bitter shot, so I just gave up and don't care about timing anymore haha Any idea "out of the ordinary" of what to test in a case like this? P.S.: would love to know the grind setting you use on the internal burr grinder.
One thing I would note. It’s easier (IMO) to just weight the beans from the bag before grinding, that way the beans will stay fresh for longer and you get the perfect amount of coffee each time
Thanks for a great video! We got out barista express two months ago and a problem we've had with more than one bag of beans now is that it both does not pressurise, as well as spurting everywhere. Trying to troubleshoot it gives conflicting advice, people say grind finer for the lack of pressure, but grind coarser for the spurting. We have a WDT tool and keep other variables consistent. Do you know which of those grind settings it is? Or is it something else?
Using your first espresso machine doesn't have to be "overwhelming and terrible" as you say. I've owned a Hamilton Beach espresso machine for years that cost $100 and it makes good coffee drinks like cappuccino and latte. I'm upgrading now to a Delonghi but you just need to use your own sense of taste to adjust the time-dose-grind and all those parameters and you will easily make better drinks than what you might get at a chain coffee shop. Their cappuccinos are especially bad.
Very informative, I also own the breville and which is weird using fresh medium roast and using 18g and yield usually 37g and extraction time is between 25-28 but it taste sour any advice please
i have probably a dumb question, in the video you have it on “single” and press the double shot button and i was wondering if its supposed to be? or if its supposed to be double since you’re doing the double shot?
Please do a comparison of this machine vs the new ninja espresso luxe machine. That’s what ninja compared themselves with so it would be an interesting video!
I never leave comments but this video literally saved me from all the confusion of this time-dose-grind situation. Thank you!
This video explained it the most thorough and quickest I’ve ever ever seen!! You were soo thorough but so simple with how you explained it! Wish I would’ve had this video when I was brand new to figuring it out!
Thanks so much! That was the goal :)

This was an amazing video! Great job. It’s exactly what I was looking for and covered everything I had questions about. Thank you!
Fantastic video.. just brought one home, thanks for taking the time to make it less intimidating.. 🙌
Thanks!
You just killed it. Great video ! Thanks for sharing !
Loved it! I was about to return my machine and now I love it. Thank you!!
Best video about this machinne Ive seen!
Just bought a used Breville exactly like the one in the video. This was the perfect video. Screw it, I subbed to the channel. 👍🏼
Este video es todo lo que necesitas cuando compras la barista express ❤❤❤.
Thank you for sharing your knowledge ⭐️ greets from Playa del Carmen, Mexico!!!
This is the best guide video I’ve seen so far. Super thorough and helpful. THANK YOUUUUU!✨✨✨
Strait up, to the point. Well organized info on the Breville and espresso in general. Great video, thanks.
Very informative great video! Just bought my breville machine and this video has made it be soooo much less intimidating! You got my sub!
Stupid question- when timing your 1:2 ratio, does it start when you hit the cup button (start brewing) or when you see the first drops of espresso emerge from portafilter?
same question

This was the most helpful video I've found breaking down everything espresso/breville! Thank you so much for your great content. New Subscriber :)
You know its a good day when ethan uploads
This video is absolutely great! Thank you for the precision! Amazing explanation!!
Picking up my machine today and so excited. Amazing and helpful video!
Thank you so much for the video it made a lot of sense! Me and my family are going to start a coffee business! I’ll be coming back for reference
This video is fantastic! It needs to blow up for sure.
I literally just bought this machine on prime day thank you so much for the help I was struggling!
Yooooo, thank you man, great video. You leveled up my espresso game so much, newb here and its much appreciated.
MVP high effort content 🎉
I wish I saw this video sooner! Thank you!
I love how you used a sketchbook for the instructions, so creative!
Bro..your break down for this was 👌🏾.
Bro thank you so much. I was gonna buy this machine but i decided to wait for the new Ninja Luxe Espresso Machine, but now i think i’m gonna pull the trigger on the brevile
Excellent video. Thank you.
I appreciate how straight to the point that was.
I love your videos, and don’t know where to post this, but one thing I think you should add to your collection is Turkish coffee. It’s probably my favorite way to drink coffee
Wow this is quite detailed. Thanks. I don’t have an espresso machine yet but I’m saving this video for when I do.
What a nice, informative and well explained video. You should try the greek versions of cold espresso called Freddo Espresso and Freddo Cappuccino! 😉
Thanks so so much, this was well needed 😀
Glad it was helpful!
I got a new Sage machine. Your video is perfect. Thank you
Thanks, Ethan, great Video, question I watched a couple of other Videos, and they recommended changing the grinder default setting of 4 to 2, especially I mean inside the grinder itself internally below that Bean Hopper, not the grind size adjustment on the side, your thoughts?

By normal coffee do you mean a more drip style coffee? If so an americano is similar while also using the espresso shot
A great video!!! Super informative and helpful 😊. Thank you
Brilliant diagrams perfectly explaining every aspect .
Question - what would you suggest about adjusting the internal burr grinder to ?
Thanks 👍
Wow 👏🏽👏🏽 you just summarize 3 other videos that I saved. Great work! Thank you for doing this video bro 🤙🏽
What number do you have the inner burr too? Amazing video!
Dear Ethan, thank you very much for the valuable info. On 4:30 you give the extraction time for double shot basket, is it possible to mention it for single shot basket. Many thanks
I love how you hand wrote everything
You are a random guy on the internet, but this was so incredibly helpful!! 😭👍🏽 Thank you!
Love the sketch book I need a printed copy asap 😅
omg I really needed this!
Thanks for the video. You don't use the baskets that come with the machine because therefore pre-ground beans. You threw them aside and I didn't catch what baskets we are supposed to use for fresh ground beans?

What can I do if I literally can't make the grind size finer without choking out the machine??
very educational. thank you
I would like to ask, if you haven’t even know the right grind for the beans, how do you get the right ratio?
Great video! Where can I get that Sketch Book?
Hey Man, epic video! I'm still struggling with getting the pressure right. I have tried 18g of coffee and put the grind very fine and it's still not getting enough. Should I add more coffee? I belive there is a second grind option inside the bean chamber. Does this need to be adjusted at all?
I am having the same issue. Can't seem to find an answer 😕

Love this video! Thanks!
Sharing this with my mom!! 😄
When do you start timing? When you push the shot button or at first drip?
Great explanation? Can you do a coffee siphon? I’ve been seeing them and they look cool
Great video, thanks man.
Very helpful! Quick question though, when do you start timing it, is it from the second you press the button?
I would say you're the best!!!
Oh, dang. I'm a fast food barista who uses an automated machine. In fast food, money is more important than people as well as actual coffee. I couldn't imagine having to learn all the preliminary coffee knowledge plus recipes.😮💨😮💨😮💨

I set grind on 2 and even using the pressure basket only get part way into the gray area for pressure.
I am trying to get into espresso and I was wondering what beans you suggest.
What about the breville barista pro!?? Can some of these tips also apply that machine
Hi , when do we actually start the timer?
First drop or once we push button? Thanks
Using your first espresso machine doesn't have to be "overwhelming and terrible" as you say. I've owned a Hamilton Beach espresso machine for years that cost $100 and it makes good coffee drinks like cappuccino and latte. Yo awesome video. I have a question though... What is (in your opinion) the #1 at home espresso machine that is pretty affordable like this one?
Ty this helped so much!😁
Holds up bag of tortilla chips, calls them potato chips. haha jokes aside, very helpful content!
Thank u for this brother
Do you have a link to the scale you used in this video?
Amazing Video!
Ethan! When is Flur going to ship to the rest of the world? I needs it.
Please do a comparison of this machine vs the new ninja espresso luxe machine. That’s what ninja compared themselves with so it would be an interesting video!
when it comes to the extraction time, do you incorporate the pre infusion time? for example does 21 second include 8 or 10 sec of pre infusion?
you are the man!
Thank you sooooooooooo much
When do you start timing the roast? Is it when I press the double shot button or when liquid starts to come out? 🧐
Hellppp... please 😁
@Ethan you should sell that book!
What about turning on the hot water at the beginning? The instructions say to do that before making espresso
we're using the same machine!
