Fabulous video! Detailed clearly explaining each step. And for me as a single homeowner naming and explaining what tools to use their purpose is so important to me. I have heavy plastic weatherproof my carport and this fall plan to upgrade to lattice panels. Thank you. Carol
Hi Victor. The spray cans have great flow control and a very short throw distance. Once you get used to using them there is not a lot of overspray at all.
This is exactly what I've been looking for! Wasn't in my top search results but thankfully the YT algorithm eventually brought me to your video. I need this in my yard! Great video! The fence looks great!
I kept thinking why didn’t he place a cardboard to prevent overspray in the neighbors yard. If I came out and saw black paint all over my furnishings I would be very upset.
Thanks for watching! Fortunately for us, the type of spray can that I used has a very short throw. Overspray is not a problem if, you hold the can back at the correct distance from your project.
Finally found what i am looking for. I am not sure if we have to build the frames, bc there are lattice fences that comes with the frames. Yours looks steady though. Thank you! your fence look amazing.
Thanks for watching! Yes, some stores offer them pre-built. The height I wanted wasn't sold in the store that I went to so, I decided to build my own. Good luck with the project!!
Just found this april2022iwant to cover the front of my old 4ft. Chain link fence I got in front of my home ..including the double gates... Gonna use PVC lattice small square pattern ..
Could I ask why the first panel overhangs the others at the bottom . One other thing I would be concerned with is the over spray getting on the niehbors things. Looks good my friend..
Thanks for watching. The existing fence had fence panels of different heights. My design allowed for a uniform look all the way across the fence line of sight. I started on the left edge of my view from the living room and continued from there. As for overspray, I recommend the spray can because it did a good job of targeting the area where the paint coverage and distance.
18 g nails are not for exterior use. They will rust quickly. They are galvanized only to keep them together. As soon as they separate, they are compromised. Just something to keep in mind.
Has anyone ever told you you have the perfect news voice? Please tell me that’s your main job lol. Thanks for the informative video you can’t get any better than that. I’ll definitely be using your video to try to build my own.
A bit of an odd installation. He could have gotten the same result with 1/2 the height of the lattice and would have saved a lot of money as well. And Definitely should have painted before installation.
Sure, you can do the half sheet if you are only attempting to lift the height. For this project, I also wanted to accomplish masking the fact that there were fence pickets that were different heights. I choose the full sheets because aesthetically it made it more appealing for it to be uniformed all the way down the fence.
Securing something that size to an existing fence post that’s definitely compromised by the look of the lean towards the end of the yard i imagine it wouldn’t be good idea. Is it still standing? I did like the look of the lattice overspray on the old fence and neighbours house though. Pretty sweet job
Thanks for watching! Yes, it has held up nicely. The posts at the end of the original fence have a slightly different placement due to the flower bed. The fence has survived a number of strong storms and some fairly heavy winds. Good luck on your next project!
That's kool I love it, but I would have painted it before putting it up both sides, and I would have cut them in half length wise , think I will do that, I've been looking for years on how to do a fence made out of lattice, ty very much think I will use a paint brush instead..
I'm planning a similar project but but confused by a few of the choices...why would you install and then paint it? Also...if you only wanted to extend the fence by a a foot why did you use the entire 4 foot panel? Was it so you didn't hae to install it directly onto the fence? But you did it with the 4x4s...
Thanks for watching. Yes, I used this large section do to the fact that the fence panels were of various heights when we moved in. The large panel gave a uniformed looked and it also provided a great backdrop for plants as well. Good luck!
Yes, the old post does share the weight. Remember I attached the new post to the old post. You could also dig holes for the new post as well. Good luck with your project!
9:54 Painting lattice is on the frustrating side--lots of waste. I once made a trough out of sheet plastic, filling it with stain and submerging the lattice into it and letting the excess drip back into it.
What if I need like 4 feet of lattice above the fence line? Unfortunately our neighbors have like an 11 foot tall foundation(I wish I was exaggerating) that looks over our fence line into our backyard. How do I work the sizing in order for my flimsy fence not to be too top heavy during high wind? Thanks!
Thanks for watching! I would look at getting the longer 4x4 treated post. You can attach them with the same lag screws then you can simply install the lattice right at the top of their fence line to give you privacy. Good luck with your project!
Thanks for watching! Yes, this will work on a cement block wall as well. The lag screws included in the supply list will attach to several wall surfaces.
IIRC, they are used on some pressure treated lumber to help the chemicals absorb. It's a telltale sign the wood was treated to prevent rot and insects for outdoor projects.
Overall I think you did a good job BUT I wouldn’t like you as a neighbor after spraying all that paint on my walls. I could see the overspray going beyond the fence. You could have painted the fence before installing it. Also, I may be wrong, but the screws seemed very long. If so, most likely they’re protruding out on your neighbors side.
Nice job with fence built. I hope the brown paint did not get on neighbors house. I would have put a cardboard behind. Or paint before affixing to posts. Aside from paint...a great idea.
Looks good, the size difference for that first lattice box would drive me nuts. As well as knowing the entire thing isn't painted, such as the side against the fence, top and bottom.
Thanks for watching! In the case where you would like the back side of the lattice painted you could always do that before attaching it. The top and bottom of the lattice are covered at the same time you paint the face. Good luck with your project!
Looks good but wouldn't it be easier to paint before you put up? A lot of paint is going to neighbor's yard and patchy paint splotches on your existing fence and the back of lattice on neighbor's side...
Thanks for watching. I can appreciate your advice. For this project in particular, I wanted to test out a project this size with a new spray paint. Good luck with your next project.
