I mean in all fairness, I non-lethalled the fury with the Mosin, if you stick to the ends of tunnels sniping isn't a terrible option once it's lit up a little

The funniest thing is that he calls Kojima's name appearing on screen a "plug" as if he didn't actually work on the game and earned his name in the credits.

I had an extremely similar experience with the leeches, but after literally ten minutes I was like "well my stamina doesn't usually go down this fast. I'll check the cure menu to see if maybe something's wrong." I was literally 12
I recently started MGS3 as i want to play them all (love the games so far!) and it also took me a few minutes to notice that my stamina goes down incredibly fast and i also checked the cure menu. What makes this even more embarrassing here is, that Phil has part of his health in RED, means he is actually injured, but doesn't even think about getting to the cure menu to maybe tread those bullet wounds.... (And to tread the leeches...)
When I was 17 some asshole on a motorbike hit into me on the pavement, knocked me down and completely tore my leg out of it's socket. When I got to hospital they had to put it back in immediately before they could even operate so I was awake for the whole thing. Unbeknown to me my testicle had retracted up into my body, and when the doctor shoved my leg bone back in with about as much force as he could muster, my testicle was still inside the hip socket, and got partially crushed. And that wasn't even a fraction of how painful watching this dip shit play Metal Gear was.

Apparently this is the same guy who, while saying that modern games suck, also plays CoD. Thus, he is used to the whole auto-aim concept. There is nothing wrong with playing a game like CoD, mind you, but a person like DSP should play his games off the stream because he bitches every time that the game is cheating. Yes, some games can be hard, but it doesn't mean that they cheat. Plus, during the epic cutscenes, he resorts to passing jokes that are not even funny and thus the whole ambiance of the cutscenes is lost for viewers who remember them in a good light.
Honestly, I'm on my first playthrough of this game, the only other one I've done is MGSV (I didn't complete it, I wanted to play the games in chronological order of the time line). I suck at this game. Especially the stealth. But I feel so much better about myself after watching this, makes me feel like a pro comparatively.
Erin ThePanda You did the right choice, MGS3 is the best and help to understand the backstory of "Big Boss" :) This game is not that hard, DSP is just dumb and can't read what he's suppose to do even when it's right it's in front of him.. You shouldn't have any problem to finish it. :)
Yagami Raïto my biggest problem is that I suck at stealth. It's not just metal gear though, I had a hard time with dishonoured too. I've only been playing for a couple hours and I'm at the part where I'm heading to groznyj grad
Erin ThePanda Stealth is about patience, timing and strategy. Well, i don't like forcing people to do something they're probably not fond of, like you suck at stealth. I understand. I used to suck at stealth too but that doesn't mean I give up. There's always be a way to get better at it right? But don't worry, you'll get better at it. Just don't give up.

he's not bad on a lot of games. he just gets winey on games that he has trouble with. like story based games he's rather entertaining. of course any comment on what someone does or doesn't enjoy is completely subjective so no real objective answer could be reached.
@@babyswithrabies a lot of games doesn'y require any skills at all. He suck on basic human skills (low awareness, artogance and indecision) it's what is fun with this kind of compilations.
The End would probably be a tad easier if this dude had gotten the Thermal Goggles (made that mistake with The Fear so I just made a new save file). Also, when I eventually got to The End with my Thermal Goggles, it was still a pretty frustrating boss battle for me and beaten him within an hour or two. I thought I was pretty bad at the boss battle with The End, but I was still so happy that I just finished him off. This guy in the video though, did not have one iota of any sort of strategy going into the boss battle, I’ve learned the hard way (The Fear without the Thermal Goggles). The guy didn’t even use any other type of CQC (didn’t snap the neck, didn’t choke anybody out, didn’t knock anybody out by slamming their head hard onto the ground, didn’t even hold a GRU soldier hostage and shoot the enemies in front of him, and worst of all he didn’t even slit anybody’s throats). I’d critique this RUclipsr on everything else he’s done in the game but I don’t think I have enough time to do so, but in short… This guy is a freaking amateur (Also can’t wait to see his reaction when he finishes the game and loads the game to be greeted by the beginning cutscene, you still get to keep the partriot that you get from The Boss/The Joy)
I just want to say that I'm in the middle of my first play through of this game at the time of this post (which is also my first game in the series) and I thought I was doing bad. Then I saw this.
23madberty The only time I felt like I was screwing up was during the final fight with the boss. Is there a faster way to do it then just wait in the flowers and snipe her because that's all I did.
Set claymores, hunt her down with automatic weaponry (I prefer the lmg). Note: If your CQC isn't on point boss will put you down hard when she disarms you. So when she gets close just holster and engage her hand to hand. Strategy works well for THE END as well. ( don't CQC though, this man has a mean push kick;shit will lay you out)
I just beat it for the first time last night, my CQC sucks so I had a hard time with The Boss. I just kept using stun grenades, the knife, and shotgun.
When I first saw the name and thumbnail of this video I thought it was a two and a half hour speedrun through the game naked and running and gunning, boy am I disappointed.

I love Snake Eater, it probably IS the best MGS game in the series, and it's technically the first one in the MGS timeline, and for it to maybe be the best, is saying a LOT, because you could pretty much say almost ANY MGS game is the best one MGS game in the series, except the one with the zombies...that was laughably bad. But Snake Eater, MGS1, Sons of Liberty, Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake, MGS4, and especially Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, could ALL be considered the "Best MGS Game Ever". They could seriously all tie for first place.

DSP literally stopped maturing at 13. Every time he sees a girl, whether beautiful, old, ugly or otherwise, or anything even broadly female or feminine, he HAS to make a sexual comment. Literally every single time. Usually I just kind of roll my eyes when other people do this but with Phil it actually creeps me out deep in my skeleton.

lxjoe96 Same, because he was playing on easy or normal, he had abudant amount of time and chances to recover his stamina and hunt for food. It would have been the best thing to watch him go back and forth the lab and the forest, and even watch him struggle to break free from the cell, or figure out the sorrow fight, but the people back then were taking him so seriously that they actually helped him out in the comments.

Nobody seemed to be pointing out the fact that Phil tried using CQC on The Fury after attacking him with exclusively lethal weapons. Not only was he trying to punch a dude with a fucking flamethrower, but he doesn't even realize that CQC drains stamina, not health
While strikes technically are a part of CQC the majority of it concerns holding up and controlling an enemy which is what people are talking about when they say he doesn't use CQC. You could strike enemies in every MGS game before this and as far as I'm aware every MGS game after but you couldn't really hold enemies up until MGS2. And you couldn't interrogate until MGS3. Also maybe I'm misremembering but throws didn't knock enemies out until MGS3.
For each of the Cobras, DSP has his own group that fights them. We have The Bad, The Sluggish, The Impatient, The Rage, The Cheat and The Salt. Such good soldiers of their times...not really!
I only found DSP through the Down The Rabbit Hole video, but I never truly fathomed how completely unfunny he is until actually watching him talking to himself and trying to be funny

I love how he beautifully he ruins every emotional moment in this game and seems to have no clue whats happening in the story, he probably couldn't decipher the main themes in The Hungry Hungry Catapillar.

Okay, perving over EVA is one thing, but his behavior at 1:57:14, where EVA is pushing herself off a branch that impaled her abdomen, is just psychopathic. Of all the times where EVA is onscreen, he decides that the scene where she's gravely injured is the perfect time to ramp up his perving.
Honestly, I thought he started to act more insane when he got pumped up while EVA explained that Volgin is a sadist and he tortured her. And then the whole "Rip off my eyelids, shove em up my ass thing." You know what, maybe I should stop there. Then again, there isn't really much left to be explained, is there?
the way he acts when he sees a female character is exactly like a friend of mine, who once thought that zeus was real because he went to a temple of his. but, to be honest, he was 14.
That ladder segment is so atmospheric and beautiful…. Like the ambient wind and the absence of instruments to accompany the vocals gives it a feeling of empty hope. And Phil keeps yelling about “MOTHA FUCKIN SNAKE EATA”
I just wanna know how the hell so many people actually watched this stuff unironically? He's not that funny, and he's shit at games. The ladder segment is literally the perfect example of this guy's ridiculousness. He can't stop trying to make jokes for even a second to just enjoy the damn game. I really do get profoundly irritated and annoyed when Phil sings. He knows he’s not good at it but he keeps doing it anyways because he knows like one or two of his dentheads will find it funny (it’s not funny).
Sometimes I give DSP slack and say, ''You know, that part was actually pretty hard''. But then I remember that I beat this game when I was 10 FUCKING YEARS OLD.
The end is SLIGHTLY justified. SLIGHTLY, as it can take FOREVER. And if you turn the game off and come back too early, you fail the battle instantly. other than that... well...
The quicksand part. I had a derp DSP moment. Knew it was quicksand straight away so "Aha" says me, quicksand you are meant to crawl over to distribute weight. On to you game" - drowned 3 feet in. Well shit.
The best thing about the end was how you could use so many options to find him, you see his scope giving off a reflection, you can use thermal goggles, you can use the directional mike to hear him. And then Phil goes and just runs around hoping he’ll stumble into him.
Ok to be fair when I was younger I would do the same thing not knowing the many mechanics Cause I had a short attention span I couldn’t be bothered listening to the codec but now I’ve managed to have more patience and a better appreciation of the game and the mechanics it implemented

They should make a phil difficulty level: The enemy is born without eyes or ears, they also cant speak and are cripples, they also die when they come on screen.
And they also don't exist! He wants to stay a 'gaming personality' (yuck), fine, but I think he should stay away from anything that has PvP or PvE in it... Maybe stick to cow-clickers and Facebook games?
I am both amazed and appalled that this man just Mr. Beaned himself through one of my favorite games. I don't know a lot about dsp, but he comes off as that one kid in middle school who didn't study the night before a test and proceeds to blame the teacher for giving them a bad grade. Also, all of his interactions with EVA were just cringe/vomit inducing. It illudes me how people ever liked this sorry excuse for a human being. He honestly just makes me think that maybe Sen. Armstrong had a point in wanting to purge the weak from the earth.

Dude he made it all the way through Alien: Isolation without hiding. Not once. Not at all. Didn't even try. Just tried to walk through over and over again until he made it to a save. He complained the whole time, everything is scripted, or totally random, or scripted TO BE totally random, then had the guts to say it was the best survival horror game ever made after he was done.

"The cold war, the most exciting war in history." It really is though. Many of the most interesting things in history happened during the cold war. Just because there wasn't tons of people in fields shooting each other constantly doesn't mean it wasn't exciting.
Guys. I think you’re being a bit too pedantic here. I don’t think OP actually meant exciting in a positive way. I think he was just pointing out that the Cold War was filled with a huge variety of events. Nuclear bombers crashing, planes being shot down, submarines colliding. Spying, traitors etc etc. it was a huge event that would be exciting and fascinating to learn about.
There’s just something to Phil running directly in a building your supposed to be disguised for on multiple instances and somehow somehow he got through it all
I like to think that every time a game has obnoxious tutorials or on screen instructions, its because a guy like DSP tested it and complained that the game never explained anything

Even if you run and gun and kill every single guard there is no excuse for being that lame. No I think this guy is in trouble every time a game demands you push two buttons at once.
Although, he is terrible at everything, the most annoying thing for me is the use of the thermal in the Boss fight. The scenery is so beautiful and fitting to be ruined by thermal.

+ConDor But The Boss's plan was to be replaced by her brilliant young protege, who had proved he had the skill to take over her duties and protect the world. DSP has proven, if nothing else, that he doesn't meet any of those criteria. He managed to do what none of us did...he disappointed The Boss.
I know it makes me more pathetic than DSP himself, but I come back to this video like every couple of months and rewatch it. It always cheers me up and makes me laugh my ass off. These were the best days right here. I miss 2013. Everything is so lame now.

It literally has the Russian characters then the English translation. You would have to either not be thinking about it or just brain dead. And he was sure talking about it alot to have not thought about it.

after coming back to this every few years, watching it while cleaning and tidying up rooms, i just stood there and watched this part wondering if the word "stealth" means you have cause explosions
Im a fan of Metal gear but im a great noob at playing the games, luckily, seeing DSP walkthrough motivated me and made me say to myself "hey, maybe im not that dumb"

There is no shame in being bad at a game. No one is gonna give you a medal for being good at a singleplayer game from 2005. The issue is not being bad, it's how you handle it. DSP would instantly become 10 times better if he changed his attitude. Like imagine if he just stopped complaining for once and actually thought things through, paid the tiniest bit of attention, or even god forbit, learned from his mistakes instead of just calling the game bad...
Can't believe I've only just seen this lol! Being a big Metal Gear Solid fan! This was unbelievably painful to watch and blaming Kojima and all who worked hard on it and ignoring his own incompetence is ridiculous! It's a beautifully made game with an amazing story. Name of this game is stealth not shoot em up!

You have to sneak, not blaze the guns loudly and openly, telling the enemy sentries,"Yo look! Here I am." To be honest, I have never played MGS3 before so I might suck at first, but at least I'll play it knowing it's a stealth game. Not some CoD game.

I beat MGS 3 I think in 2005? During Christmas Break from school, I ate a deli sandwich from a local grocery store and ended up with food poisoning. I was delirious and so just, weird. I got MGS 3 as a Christmas present, and I made my first playthough. The torture scene with Volgin punching Snake to a damn pulp, literally disturbed me. The black (bag(?)) over Snake's head bothered me a lot for some reason, especially how he breathes and you can see the bag sucking in. No thanks. I am torn between choices of what my favorite game is. MGS 2 and its style was a seminal part of my childhood, but MGS 3 had more of an influence in my life. MGS (PSX) was a huge deal also, being roughly 12(?) at the time and hearing "super baby method" was always something I remembered. I love the MGS series, just started playing 4 last week, never owned a PS3, and only got a PS4 a few months ago, so yeah, hard for me to pick a favorite. Not sure why I just wrote all that, oh wait yes I do, Phil sucks, I beat MGS 3 with the fucking flu as a kid. How does anyone literally suck so bad at the only thing they do for a job. Ffs.
I've been toying with the idea of playing a few MGS games, but I've been a little hesitant because I'm not a huge fan of stealth games. So... if I _don't_ do anything that Phil does, I'll be okay, right?
Everything Balmung said is correct. Cutscenes are there for a reason. Also, utilize the codec calls. Major, Para-Medic, EVA, and Sigint are all there for a reason, and that's to help you. DSP was too stupid to realize this.
It's fine if you're not a fan of stealth games, Metal Gear Solid is probably some of the lighter stealth out there compared to Thief, Splinter Cell and Hitman.
you should you don't have to be a master of stealth to play a metal gear game but my advice is if your still unsure try and play a game were stealth is an option and try and stealth that might help

Fun fact: Kojima originally wanted the fight with the End to last for several weeks. Thanks to DSP's incompetence, that dream can be fulfilled.

I had an extremely similar experience with the leeches, but after literally ten minutes I was like "well my stamina doesn't usually go down this fast. I'll check the cure menu to see if maybe something's wrong."
I was literally 12
It took me two minutes to reattach a suppressor on a MK22.
I was 11.
I recently started MGS3 as i want to play them all (love the games so far!) and it also took me a few minutes to notice that my stamina goes down incredibly fast and i also checked the cure menu. What makes this even more embarrassing here is, that Phil has part of his health in RED, means he is actually injured, but doesn't even think about getting to the cure menu to maybe tread those bullet wounds.... (And to tread the leeches...)

Apparently this is the same guy who, while saying that modern games suck, also plays CoD. Thus, he is used to the whole auto-aim concept. There is nothing wrong with playing a game like CoD, mind you, but a person like DSP should play his games off the stream because he bitches every time that the game is cheating. Yes, some games can be hard, but it doesn't mean that they cheat. Plus, during the epic cutscenes, he resorts to passing jokes that are not even funny and thus the whole ambiance of the cutscenes is lost for viewers who remember them in a good light.

Honestly, I'm on my first playthrough of this game, the only other one I've done is MGSV (I didn't complete it, I wanted to play the games in chronological order of the time line). I suck at this game. Especially the stealth. But I feel so much better about myself after watching this, makes me feel like a pro comparatively.

The End is probably one of the most beautiful and well designed boss fights in all video games and he managed to make it painful to watch
To be honest I hated it, but I didn't get frustrated about it.
The End would probably be a tad easier if this dude had gotten the Thermal Goggles (made that mistake with The Fear so I just made a new save file). Also, when I eventually got to The End with my Thermal Goggles, it was still a pretty frustrating boss battle for me and beaten him within an hour or two. I thought I was pretty bad at the boss battle with The End, but I was still so happy that I just finished him off. This guy in the video though, did not have one iota of any sort of strategy going into the boss battle, I’ve learned the hard way (The Fear without the Thermal Goggles). The guy didn’t even use any other type of CQC (didn’t snap the neck, didn’t choke anybody out, didn’t knock anybody out by slamming their head hard onto the ground, didn’t even hold a GRU soldier hostage and shoot the enemies in front of him, and worst of all he didn’t even slit anybody’s throats). I’d critique this RUclipsr on everything else he’s done in the game but I don’t think I have enough time to do so, but in short… This guy is a freaking amateur
(Also can’t wait to see his reaction when he finishes the game and loads the game to be greeted by the beginning cutscene, you still get to keep the partriot that you get from The Boss/The Joy)

23madberty The only time I felt like I was screwing up was during the final fight with the boss. Is there a faster way to do it then just wait in the flowers and snipe her because that's all I did.
Set claymores, hunt her down with automatic weaponry (I prefer the lmg). Note: If your CQC isn't on point boss will put you down hard when she disarms you. So when she gets close just holster and engage her hand to hand. Strategy works well for THE END as well. ( don't CQC though, this man has a mean push kick;shit will lay you out)
I just beat it for the first time last night, my CQC sucks so I had a hard time with The Boss. I just kept using stun grenades, the knife, and shotgun.

While strikes technically are a part of CQC the majority of it concerns holding up and controlling an enemy which is what people are talking about when they say he doesn't use CQC. You could strike enemies in every MGS game before this and as far as I'm aware every MGS game after but you couldn't really hold enemies up until MGS2. And you couldn't interrogate until MGS3. Also maybe I'm misremembering but throws didn't knock enemies out until MGS3.

Sometimes I give DSP slack and say, ''You know, that part was actually pretty hard''. But then I remember that I beat this game when I was 10 FUCKING YEARS OLD.
The end is SLIGHTLY justified. SLIGHTLY, as it can take FOREVER. And if you turn the game off and come back too early, you fail the battle instantly. other than that... well...
The quicksand part. I had a derp DSP moment. Knew it was quicksand straight away so "Aha" says me, quicksand you are meant to crawl over to distribute weight. On to you game" - drowned 3 feet in. Well shit.
The best thing about the end was how you could use so many options to find him, you see his scope giving off a reflection, you can use thermal goggles, you can use the directional mike to hear him. And then Phil goes and just runs around hoping he’ll stumble into him.
Ok to be fair when I was younger I would do the same thing not knowing the many mechanics
Cause I had a short attention span I couldn’t be bothered listening to the codec but now I’ve managed to have more patience and a better appreciation of the game and the mechanics it implemented

I don't know a lot about dsp, but he comes off as that one kid in middle school who didn't study the night before a test and proceeds to blame the teacher for giving them a bad grade.

Dude he made it all the way through Alien: Isolation without hiding. Not once. Not at all. Didn't even try. Just tried to walk through over and over again until he made it to a save. He complained the whole time, everything is scripted, or totally random, or scripted TO BE totally random, then had the guts to say it was the best survival horror game ever made after he was done.

I don’t think OP actually meant exciting in a positive way. I think he was just pointing out that the Cold War was filled with a huge variety of events. Nuclear bombers crashing, planes being shot down, submarines colliding. Spying, traitors etc etc. it was a huge event that would be exciting and fascinating to learn about.

It literally has the Russian characters then the English translation. You would have to either not be thinking about it or just brain dead. And he was sure talking about it alot to have not thought about it.

There is no shame in being bad at a game. No one is gonna give you a medal for being good at a singleplayer game from 2005. The issue is not being bad, it's how you handle it. DSP would instantly become 10 times better if he changed his attitude. Like imagine if he just stopped complaining for once and actually thought things through, paid the tiniest bit of attention, or even god forbit, learned from his mistakes instead of just calling the game bad...
Can't believe I've only just seen this lol! Being a big Metal Gear Solid fan! This was unbelievably painful to watch and blaming Kojima and all who worked hard on it and ignoring his own incompetence is ridiculous! It's a beautifully made game with an amazing story. Name of this game is stealth not shoot em up!

You have to sneak, not blaze the guns loudly and openly, telling the enemy sentries,"Yo look! Here I am." To be honest, I have never played MGS3 before so I might suck at first, but at least I'll play it knowing it's a stealth game. Not some CoD game.

I beat MGS 3 I think in 2005? During Christmas Break from school, I ate a deli sandwich from a local grocery store and ended up with food poisoning. I was delirious and so just, weird. I got MGS 3 as a Christmas present, and I made my first playthough.
The torture scene with Volgin punching Snake to a damn pulp, literally disturbed me. The black (bag(?)) over Snake's head bothered me a lot for some reason, especially how he breathes and you can see the bag sucking in. No thanks.
I am torn between choices of what my favorite game is. MGS 2 and its style was a seminal part of my childhood, but MGS 3 had more of an influence in my life. MGS (PSX) was a huge deal also, being roughly 12(?) at the time and hearing "super baby method" was always something I remembered.
I love the MGS series, just started playing 4 last week, never owned a PS3, and only got a PS4 a few months ago, so yeah, hard for me to pick a favorite.

I've been toying with the idea of playing a few MGS games, but I've been a little hesitant because I'm not a huge fan of stealth games. So... if I _don't_ do anything that Phil does, I'll be okay, right?
Everything Balmung said is correct. Cutscenes are there for a reason. Also, utilize the codec calls. Major, Para-Medic, EVA, and Sigint are all there for a reason, and that's to help you. DSP was too stupid to realize this.
It's fine if you're not a fan of stealth games, Metal Gear Solid is probably some of the lighter stealth out there compared to Thief, Splinter Cell and Hitman.
you should you don't have to be a master of stealth to play a metal gear game but my advice is if your still unsure try and play a game were stealth is an option and try and stealth that might help
I agree with Kevin that if you want to get into stealth, MGS would be the best option since it's pretty forgiving if you are spotted.
