imho, the color on the gp8 looks more realistic than the gp7. the 7 looks way more "bright" trying to compensate for lighting and the colors are insanely oversaturated. I had both 7, and 8, used daily and for a plethora of shooting situations and the 8 out shined the 7 for me which is why i sold my 7. but i can appreciate where you're coming from
Mario La Porte on all of my gadgets 3:10 of this video looks way better and more realistic on GP 7. On the left is just too orange, definitely not his natural color as he himself mentioned it on this same video.

I currently have the hero 7 and really like it. There are some things i like about the 8 tho. Like the improved stabilization, built in mount, and presets.... but i dont like that the lens cover is non removable now. Would be nervous about scratching or cracking the glass.
@@thejgzone9 no….you just replace the screen, don’t know why you would spend another $800-$1000 on a phone when you can just pay for a screen replacement
Powered by vidIQ The non-removable lens cover is a deal-breaker for me. Its an action camera and is going to get scratched and dinged (i would be scared to mount it to a drone). If the lens cover gets damaged you have to replace the whole camera. It would be a waste of money to buy this unit.

Nice apples to apples comparison you've done here! Still really like my 7, but if I ever need a second one I'll buy the 8. I have to wonder if the difference in color and brightness had anything to do with the higher bit rate of the new 8. More bits, more information ='s darker more colorful picture? As far as I know, the 7 and 8 use the same CCD sensor. So if the imaging hardware is the same, that leaves us with an increased bit rate and or software differences I suppose.
8 is good but ive got a cheap and very small 1-axis gimbal which works great on the 7. (7 does struggle with the rotation axis). So im skipping this upgrade, really dont think its worth getting a new Gopro until they increase the sensor size.
@@RedskullPro yeah it does look excellent, but ill bet my Gopro Hero 7 and Wewow Sport X1 gimbal is just as smooth, as the sensor is rectangular, fixing the rotation externally gives the 7 stabilization more pixels to play with. If i didn´t have a Gopro 7 i would buy the 8 however, but from an upgrade point of view its not worth it for me.
One thing I’d love to see is the lens changed on the 7 (cover comes off and lens can be unscrewed) to a non fisheye wide angle and see comparison between HyperSmooth on and off (just walking)
Thank you for the comparison, great job. I have the 7 black which I use only while scuba diving. I actually do not see any advantage at all in using the 8 underwater as the stabilization is not needed. It would have been good if the 8, being larger, was fitted with a longer life battery. Thanks again.
I think I'll keep my 7 for now. A tiny bit more stabilization on the 8, but not enough to go buy another set of everything for a new 8. But that's just me. Thanks for the comparisons of the pair.

too much stabilization can take away from the quality of experience of viewing the video. If you record driving on a bumpy road and you want to draw the viewer in and convey to him what it felt like racing through a rough terrain, you're out of luck if you set the stabilization too high. The viewer of the video will be feeling like a disengaged viewer, versus a viewer who gets to feel the rough terrain with you because you didn't mask it with stabilization. it keeps it more real, and keeps the viewer more engaged when we don't mask things ... this - from a movie writing point of view
7 has more realistic colors, where 8 has over-saturation and therefore more unrealistic colors; and where 8 has more stabilization, it can kill the quality of experience that less stabilization can convey; but 7 has issues with the battery handling/compartment that is a struggle to open, and in 8 you can't replace the lens, which is a total killer
Wonderful test and video. I do think a simple Runcam2 or something without stabilization so we can see the non stabilizer footage in a little window in the middle would be more impressive for both.
What a great video comparing the two cameras. The main difference is that GoPro 8 has over all better image stabilization. The GoPro 8 is so worth it only if you need that extra stabilization for your videos.

Now I don't really know whether should I buy the 7 or 8. What would you advise? The GoPro 7 is for $250 and the GoPro 8 is for $350
I bought a GoPro 7 and I cant tell you, that this product is a waste of money. For those people who plan to use this camera for outdoor... bright and shinny day, then you can can good video... but once your indoors... even if you have descent lighting... the video will be blurred. The sensor is just too small... The photo quality is absolutely horrible. For those people who are looking for a small camera to bring around... perhaps travel with, or perhaps use it to take photos and videos of your kids recital... this is not the camera to use. This is only for outdoor sunny day use... that's all. Even for those bloggers who are looking to get a more compact camera, easy to take around... this camera isnt work you... the low light video and photo quality is horrible. Another bad thing about the camera is the zoom! The zoom completely makes the video useless. The gopro 7 & 8 should perform more or less the same... its the same tiny sensor. I suggest you can get an older model of the Sony RX100 or Ganon G7X models... at least you can use it for multi purpose use... for those who engage in outdoor activity, perhaps you can find a case that will protect the sony and canon camera... In addition, the camera gets really hot... so hot wherein its uncomfortable to hold it.. Another issue is that the lens is too wide. This might be okay if you want to video a city scape and you need extra wide angle. But if you need a closer shot, this camera is not for you... you need to get so close to your subject to get close up shots... remember zoom in this camera will totally ruin your videos and photos. Dont get carried away with all those amazing videos that you see Gopro puts out... those videos goes through lots of post work to make it look that great. Its not like you pop open a brand new GoPro and right away your video will look like that... no way! And notice most nice videos are outdoor sunny day videos... its never low light...
They seem to keep dropping in and out of a flatter colour profile...I prefer the flatter look as the other one is too contrasty and a little too saturated. Eg. 6:09 look at the one on the right, drops to contrasty look then back to flat.. It also happens on the 8 during other tests.
Can u go Facebook live & Instagram live with the 7? Is it possible to do face time calls with a go pro never heard anyone do a face time call so I just wondering can u do those 3 things ?
Thanks for your video ! This helped me confirm my Gopro 8 is not only the issue. I switched from 7 to 8 and not so happy with it. Built-in mount on 8 is nice though. I mostly use it underwater for diving and usually requires extra housing. So that benefit of 8 kinda became useless for me. Do any of you experience highlights being burnt on 8 ?? Even on this video, I noticed your forehead is blown on 8's footage more than 7. I use mine mostly underwater and anything shiny or if there is uneven lighting, the highlight is just burnt for me which has been annoying experience with the hero 8. Thinking to switch to 9 or go back to 7.
I always said that the 7 was better than the 8.... Personally I don't dive or film under water very often so I can't really comment on that. Here is my comparison between the 8 and 9: ruclips.net/video/BUbVvzXYCm4/видео.html

I'm going with the gopro hero 8 black because your comparison video clearly shows that the video captures with the hero 8 brings out more color then the hero 7 the hero 7 has a slightly more dull look then the hero 8 vibrant colorful look . I would pause your video when I wanted to really study the comparison between both cameras and the hero 8 definitely had the colors of the green grass & tree leaves looking greener as with the colors of everything else that was recorded!😁👍 thanks again mate for going out of your way to create such a great comparison video of these 2 wonderful action cameras of gopro hero 8 & 7 black ...😁👍⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
And that folks is how it's done....I know nothing about GoPro's. I'm buying one as a gift for my Son. I just saved about a hundred bucks....Thank You!!!
I like the bright colorful look of the 8 images. I feel like they update the old cameras to look worse when the new ones come out. I feel like the 7 looked just as good as the 8 back when the 7 came out. Have they fixed the buggy operation issues with the 7? I might buy one again
So you swapped some of the night time footage between the 8 and the 7 as in one section the 8 is the darker looking more saturated cam and then in the other vid the 7 is the dark looking more saturated cam.
Redskull at 11:31 the 8 is the darker more saturated one and then at 12:31 the 7 is the darker more saturated one. Maybe you did some color correction and then swapped it or maybe the shutter and isos where change on both cams or maybe you just swapped them by mistake

Hey man, thanks for watching! I’m glad the video was useful!
Very nice but which is better ?
I think you are better off with the GoPro 7, much cheaper now
7 looks better to me. 8 has slight improvement in stabilization. For the price difference, you could buy a gimbal. Nice comparison! Peace
First time to buy gopro, which is better? Hero 7 or 8? Thanks
not that much of a difference between them...
Just ordered the Gopro Nero7 but see there are two different batteries, blue bottom and black bottom.
Which one will be the best for the Nero7?
I just used the one that came with the GoPro and I usually bring a power bank with me to charge it
Perfect review 🔥❤️
Thank you 🙌
Did you say ...... better or butter ?
The non replaceable len definitely a deal breaker
How often do you break the glass?
Redskull just broke my insta 360 last week. 😢
GoPro has been messing up the skin tones, Idk what happened
And that folks is how it's done....I know nothing about GoPro's. I'm buying one as a gift for my Son.
I just saved about a hundred bucks....Thank You!!!
Thanks for watching! Yeah, the 7 is a much better buy right now
Great review thanks
Thanks for checking it out!

Thanks for watching!
Best review I saw
i'm glad it was useful! Thanks for watching!
Is it a good to use a tempered glass on lens screen ??
I personally don’t use any screen protectors on any devices...but I am pretty careful with my things
So should I get the hero 7 black over the 8
I think you should. it's cheaper and almost the same
Thank you for running for us!
I don't do it too often :)
Compare flat profile of the both
That would have been a good idea
thanks
I like the bright colorful look of the 8 images. I feel like they update the old cameras to look worse when the new ones come out. I feel like the 7 looked just as good as the 8 back when the 7 came out. Have they fixed the buggy operation issues with the 7? I might buy one again
its the sound for me.. ilik the 8 picture but i lik the 7 sound
Hey Niko, wanna go for bowling?
sure

When you are running at 6:30, the video from the gopro 7 looks more stable.
Standard stablization.
So you swapped some of the night time footage between the 8 and the 7 as in one section the 8 is the darker looking more saturated cam and then in the other vid the 7 is the dark looking more saturated cam.
impossible
Redskull at 11:31 the 8 is the darker more saturated one and then at 12:31 the 7 is the darker more saturated one. Maybe you did some color correction and then swapped it or maybe the shutter and isos where change on both cams or maybe you just swapped them by mistake
Hello! Is gopro 7 still good in 2021?
100%! cheaper now as well, I would get one if looking for an action camera
Wow! Cool. Thank you so much!!!
Thank Your Video
You are awesome sir
You are even more awesome for checking out the video!
The hero 8 is no upgrade. It can only do 1080p 240fps. They need 480fps. Hope it comes for the hero 9. Will stick to hero 7
still a year away! yeah, not worth upgrading from the 7
lovely video thank you.
Glad you enjoyed it
