The most helpful Gopro Hero 8 review video PERIOD. You shared hidden tips and tricks that no other gopro 8 reviewers on RUclips talked about. This is exactly what I've been looking for the last two weeks. thank you! And keep it up! Cheers
Keep your 7. Don't waste your money. From what I can tell so far besides hypersmooth high setting which seems to only work well with lots of light most of the other features have limited use cases. Also, whoever okayed the door latch design and memory card slot position, should be fired. Same goes for the decision maker for the removal of the replaceable lens. Not sure how many people have fog issues but I primarily use these cameras scuba diving in cold water and ski/snowboarding. I never had an issue
Great tips, thanks. Native White Balance makes the least amount of correction to the colour of te image leaving it basically as it comes off the sensor without processing. If used with Flat colour profile it gives the most latitude if you want to colour correct/colour grade in post production. I often use it especially at night when, for example, the camera may want to add more blue to compensate for the yellow/orange of sodium street lights. This then means that signs and lights that are blue can get over saturated and out of gamult. By using Flat and Native the camera doesn't fiddle with the colours at all and grading in post is a bit easier. Using a cheap credit card sized colour chart at the beginning of a shot also helps getting the colour right.
I really like your video. My son has a Hero 7 black and was impressed with the quality of the video we made of an issue with a drone. So, I bought a GoPro not knowing anything more than it was a GoPro. It turns out it is a Hero 8 Black. After I got it, he came over and we discovered that there is a difference. I have started investigating my GoPro, and your video is very informative. I'm watching it for the second time, and will be watching it again. Thanks for the info.
Just bought my first one at 52 years old, made a video today of the old amusement pier in Long branch New Jersey on my channel, that burnt down in 1985 I love the go pro 8 😎👍👍👍
Native is only really for those who want to do their own colour grading. It is almost like ‘raw’ and has most latitude for stretching colour. I directly compared Native with 5500k in sunlight and they come out ‘similar’. Native has a little more red though. For many, especially in sunlight, if you try shooting in Native and in post, boost the contrast until blacks and whites are ok and then big boost to saturation. This gives a great picture. After that, if you’re up to it, tweak the white balance and you can get a really excellent picture in comparison to GoPro colours.
I upgraded from H4 to H8 about a year ago and one of my favorite things is the GoPro cloud along with the automatic footage upload. For a starter the auto upload saves a lot of time because when you get home, arrive in the hotel room or whatever, you plugin your GoPro so it's charging and the upload begin soon enough. You can even allow GoPro to delete uploaded footage. At your laptop or computer you can use Quik (legacy software but still available I think) to watch the footage and download it. Cool thing, each day has it's own folder. Basically the only thing I am missing is an extension for Adobe Premiere Pro, so I can access the cloud directly. Basically like Adobe Stock but for GoPro. Not to mention that when having lots of footage it's way cheaper than a regular cloud such as Apple or Google. The Web view is pretty neat as well which has been improved recently. One can filter by month and sort by create date for example.
To protect my lense I got the protective case. I do a lot of underwater video so I needed it anyway. It makes underwater video so much better. Sometimes air bubbles can get into the microphones which muffles the sound underwater and pretty much ruins any chance of good audio. The protective case prevents that completely, with the added benefit of protecting the lense just like with the older GOPROs.
I got a Hero 8 after not having a GoPro since the Hero4. I wanted it as it has 50/60fps in 4K over the Hero 9 which has an oversharpened look to the 4K and 5K is only 25/30fps which I noticed can make panning shots look a bit jerky but not with 50/60fps. Good tips. Native WB is for colour grading/correcting but unless you are using the GoPro as a B camera and need to match footage with another camera, I just stick to kelvin and hold up a white balance card at the start of shooting so I can easily correct the white balance in editing. One other thing I have done is to turn down the exposure to -0.5 as having it on 0 tends to blow out highlights too easily. I agree with turning down the max ISO. I also set the sharpness to medium as high is way oversharpened for my liking and low is a bit soft.
This is the first video I watched of yours and given your channel name… I was waiting for a really bad and by bad I mean awesome dad joke… Maybe the next one? Thanks for a great video! 😂😂

Quick question... Since the Hero 8 media mod (with directional mic) isn't out yet, what is the best audio setting to use to maximize and improve sound of the Hero 8's internal mic when vlogging? I noticed that turning off WIND setting enables the mic to work in stereo. But that isn't too optimal when you want to talk in front of the camera since it captures a lot of noise all around, plus the audio of your voice doesn't sound too front and center (audio sounds kinda spacey). Will enabling "wind" change audio to mono? Or at least use the front mic only?

All great tips! Thanks! One thing I discovered that you might also want to be aware of is that the default settings for the Cinematic profile have it using LOW bit rate instead of High. Seemed super odd to me that it would default to Low for a profile called 'Cinematic'. haha Anyway, easy enough to fix as long as you know about it. :P

Native just means there is no white balance correction being applied to the footage so are getting the native color balance of the sensor. This is intended for people that color grade their footage and usually shoot in the flat color profile as well so they can correct the white balance and color exactly how they want it. Auto white balance is often regarded as the worst white balance setting for video because it will often change gradually throughout the clip so it's a nightmare or even impossible to get all your colors to match when you edit and color grade the final video because every scene goes from cool to warm, warm to cool, etc....

Looks like the 8 has a much better interface than the 7 that I tried for hours to setup and try to figure out what pot the software designers were smoking when they built that menu (non menu) structure. Looks like they had somebody come in that reworked the logic in the menu system. Sorry but having written menus and user interfaces since the late 70's for me to take more than 5 minutes to figure out the OS is not a positive feature. Great video.
Watched you video...got lots of good instruction. Just got my Hero Black 8 and starting to use it. So far, so good. The drop down clip attachment is nice, but never had problems with the old mount arrangement, and it was quicker to attach/detach. Also would have like to have been able to use the Hero Black 5 camera bracket/case which cannot be used on the HB8, no screen protector, and can't be used in underwater case bought for the HB5.. Design flaw, or just something to make you buy more specialized accessories for the HB8.
That video was super...my first-ever GoPro comes in tomorrow and I seem to know what to do with it already. Except for the 'Native' piece...I would probably prefer the RAW settings and colour correct after. Personalise Personalise Personalise.
I would be buying this GorPro for still shots only to capture GPS. I would mount it to the hot shoe of a mirrorless or DSLR camera. Do you think the battery would last substantially longer just taking still photos? I just want the gps info for the most part. Thank you very much in advance.

Hey, I really enjoy your reviews. Have used the Sony FDR X3000 since it came out, but tired of not seeing what I'm recording. Just purchased the Hero 8 and concerned about battery life. Fully charged and then playing around with the settings for 15 mins (no recording) it has already lost over 20% of the battery. Does this seem right to You? The camera is also pretty warm which surprises me given that it hasn't been recording anything.
Out of the box pretty much all setting are turned on which drains battery quickly...but even after tweaking, it'll get about 70-80min of video on a full charge. Not alot, but it's a very small form factor with a TON of software running in the background.
I’d love to give you some GPH8 tips, but I used the trade up program to get $100 off, which thanks to UPS, it’s going to be a two week process, SO, I don’t have mine yet. 😢

Something to make you buy more shit... Hero 8 is the new Hero 5. Every future Hero now will be compatible back to the Hero 8.
Does anyone have recommended setting for doing a swim analysis video (indoor pool/underwater)?
Question, if the lensprotectors is 'scratched/broke' is there simple a way to get of? without glue sticking or? (i dont have a protector but i like to know before i use it)
Wooow great video👍, Greetings from London 🇬🇧
When you going for a run. What are your settings?
All I know is I called it 2 videos ago or so I knew he was going to do a Go Pro hero 8 Vs the DJI Osmo Action I loved that video
Are those running trail shots in Allen TX? They looked exactly like where I walk. Great vid BTW!
I got mine my go pro hero 8 a week ago. Just started enjoying. Shoutout to all dongdai here.
Hi,
Thanks for video! I am upgrading from a gopro 5 and this camera is great... may i ask for some tips? My two uses are motovlogging... whats the best settings for that? 4k? 1080?
Second use is youtube videos about sharpening knives and razors... i figure low fps since there is not alot of movement and helps with light. 4k? 1080? 2.4?
It does the job. Excellent product.
Very legit and thorough video. I’m interested in your book but do you have an audio book? That would be easy for us.. thank you for helping us set up our go pro. This is our very first. We bought the pro 8 bundle with a roll cage..
Native is meant for post color grading. It’s actually a nice feature
You can buy replacement glass for the lense and replace it yourself, it's super easy actually
What would the best settings for filming inside my house be? Both at night with lights on and in the day with natural sunlight? I know GoPros aren't great in low light, but my phone camera is broken so it's the only camera I have to filk Christmas with the fam at the moment.
I wish there was a reply to this question. I film inside for social media work outs & exercise upload.
Thank you for the tips. I'll your optimised settings for my GoPro.
Thank you for the helpful advice !
Why am I watching tips and trick for a camera I don't want? 😂Good stuff. Applicable to other gear with some tweaks👍
I watch those kind of videos all the time 🤣
@@TheEverydayDad I feel a little better knowing it's not just me 😂
Look at that Falcon Eyes RX-18T in action! Looks nice dude. I have been happy with mine. I wanted to do the all in one C Stand, but looks like I am going to be doing the VESA desk mounted one first and going to put the RX-18T on it.
It’s amazing, like this video was shot with the crappy 12-60 lumix kit lens but I think it looks great because of the light.
This is no kidding my favorite light of all time.
And I just use a cheap light stand, much easier and cheaper 🤣
The Everyday Dad Yea I use an amazon Basics light stand right now lol 😂 No kidding my first like 50-60 videos this year was all on G85 12-60mm kit lens and RX-18T......till that Sony came around and the 2.8 Tamron. Yea the light doesn’t have to work too hard now lol
Nice, just bought one, thanks for the tips
Super great video! Just ordered it and it should arrive tomorrow so getting some background on what to change right away for settings and the best options! I have the GoPro 7 which I was/am happy with. I use mine mostly outside on out farm and with livestock. Also my Australian cattle dog wears it when we are training or for other fun things so can’t wait to try it.
I was wondering if you wouldn’t mind sharing those presets that you have added for quick change in videoing.
Dad, great video! much needed.. was struggling with H8 a bit.. got it dialed in now..thx.. subscribed and Bell..
Helpful video 👍🏻
Ultimate video brother
What is your ideal settings for mountain biking in variable light conditions. Thx....
bump. I'm curious too.
I don't have a Gopro yet, but I'm wondering if I should go for the 7 or 8? Just want it for when I go on vacation to take some cool videos/photos. Should I just get the 8 or go for the 7?
Keen to get the 8. Have been enjoying your reviews 😎👍
Just got my gopro 8 and would you mind to provide me your video setting for super strong sun day and poor light (back to sun light) as well as taking Christmas lights and fire work? Your prof advice will be highly appreciated!
Thanks for the great video just got the hero 8 black first ever gopro. In your opinion what is the best micro sd for it?
Based on the latest firmware, how is the highest boost setting - does it still warp/wobble?
Hi Champ what res should i have it on for dirt motor bike riding
thanks heaps in advance
Will the camera be powered externally once the media mod is attached? In other words, is there a USB port on the media mod?
Any suggestions on doing drum video
Menu scrolling sucking that battery dry :)
Camera Conspiracies I’m just liking this cuz...Hi Kasey!
I don’t know how I missed this big red logo in the comments 🤣
Go review, right for a new buyer (A LOOOOOT of viewers). So everyone please thumbs up this great job so the YTer can make more and better clips for you! I did my share and also subscribed.
Have you had any freezing issues yet? This might be a deal breaker for me as the content I make typically can't be reshot.
This is great but I haven't even figured out how to get in to adjust these settings.
I’d love to give you some GPH8 tips, but I used the trade up program to get $100 off, which thanks to UPS, it’s going to be a two week process, SO, I don’t have mine yet. 😢
Great thanks learnt a lot
the native wb setting its not a new feature from hero 8. Actually this feature its there since the Gopro 4 and at the Hero 3 it was called Camera Raw at the protune settings.
I dont doubt about your camera work, skills and abilities but it looks you only discovered gopro recently
Up top family 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Will the camera operate normally with no battery installed using only the usb cord for power? Whats your opinion using this camera as a dash cam?
Hi. Do you know is it possible to set parameters like iso range etc. using loop ? I see that the settings for the loop are limited. Maybe there is some trick for loop settings. I will be grateful for your support.
Hi m8 great video. What would the best settings for a squash game with the lights and white walls? Cheers
thank you for the tips, just got one for cyber Monday deal.
Nice!
I wouldn't be watching this if it was not yours :) lol.. GP8 not my thing ;)
Always a cool video Gary
I'm only using it for FPV drone flying so I should be able to use max stabilization without issue & also manual shutter to 1/double frame rate just fine, right?
