- In this video we are comparing the 4 latest GoPro models with each other. The brand new #GoProHero10, #GoProHero9, #GoProHero8 and #GoProHero7 . We are comparing them in terms of video quality, stabilization, sound quality, accessories, low light, durability, photography and functionality. Since this is essentially a battle between young and old, let's see how much the newer models were able to improve over time and if it's worth buying them!

yes! other reviewers are obviously paid, older gopros videos are noticeably downgraded on purpose.

I have had the Hero 7 for almost two years now and still real happy with what it gives me. I only film at 2K, so cannot see any reason (yet) to upgrade, hopefully the Hero 11 will change that for me. Very good review, cheers Alan
I use the 7 also...was considering an upgrade but may also hold off.
Thank you for the test. My favourite was the battery/overheating test at 8:10.
I tend to take loong clips with my Hero 7 Black, which overheats, too, but using an external battery and removing the internal one seems to help.
I was wondering if the over-heating was resolved in later versions, but it looks it get even worse.
For the 8, 9, and 10, using them on a mount makes them overheat less than sitting them flat on a surface like in this video test. The 7, however, overheats more easily when in its mounting frame.
I use it plugged in with the internal battery and no issues mounted on my helmet. Only 1 time it stopped on me.

I love that the Battery is better on the Hero 7 and that it's smaller. But the horizontal level stabilisation is amazing on the 10
Thanks so much for doing this video!! Seeing them and hearing them all back to back or split screen is a game changer. So cool. Just adding my 2 cents as a long time gopro user and content creator most of my videos are 30+ with some lasting 1:30. So anyone who says the over heating and shutting off at 20mins is fine cause no one records that much is wrong. No camera should shut off due to heat or anything else till the space on the card is full or the battery is dead. With older gopro you could hook an external battery up and record for hours....now with the 9 and 10 it would matter if you could get a bigger battery because the camera is just going to over heat and shut off. Huge problem in my opinion and will prevent me from ever buying one with these issues.
Ya, that's a game changer for me. I do lot off motovlogging in hot conditions and I suspect that cameras which are overheating in ideal room temperature wouldn't cut it in hot road conditions. I had a hero 5 and it never failed on me.

I have the Hero 9 I use for motovlogging. 3 extra batteries and 2 128GB micro SD cards. Because the GoPro is mounted on the chin of my helmet it gets plenty of ventilation. I've recorded a little over an hour before swapping the battery. I record in 4K at 30fps. I'm super happy with my GoPro.

I ve has the gopro 7 white for the last four years And it's been through some tough conditions. Its been underwater,thrown around sand,survived numerous mud runs.eventhough it's the base model and it may be rugged to some but it does a fantastic job for what I do.

its tough to judge by this video just because you can change more in the settings in the 10 then the older models. you can manipulate exposure and picture profile for lowlight which is very good on the 10 but i do agree with all the same settings it seems the 7/8 is better with stock settings.
Thanks for the superb comparison. I own a Go Pro 7 Black and still happy with that and don’t see any reason to upgrade as yet. Good enough for my use for now. The video was bang on though, extremely well done. Cheers

This was a great great review, short, and with very nice info. For the overheating, I have 3 hero 10 camera's and never had overheating, even in 4K, I tested it myself and recorded for 1 hour with no problem at all.

Thanks for the video! I was checking this for the audio comparison, and I have to agree with you on the 10 being better than the 9 at filtering the audio, yet losing some of the low end of the voice, hence some clarity is lost and it sounds a bit crispier (tested with headphones). I'd love to see how they perform in a live setting such as a gig to see if it's worth upgrading from 7 to 10 (or maybe 9 as it might have a better quality overall!)
Hard to achieve in our working environment since gigs usually take place when we are off work, sadly 😅 But glad you still liked our video :)

I got a hero 7 over a year ago and it was a chore to find before they stopped stocking it. For $230, it was prolly the best bang for the buck go pro. Also at the time the 7 made the most sense in pure use cases. For one, I didn’t want the 8 because it lacked a replacement lens. If I were to use it in strenuous situations, I’d be pretty upset if I cracked it and was shit outta luck. Then it was between the 9 and 7, and for half the price, I’d rather have the tried and true design over the innovative design that saw massive issues. And now it’s really tough to get a budget quality go pro, as I said, the 8 doesn’t have a removable lens…which I think is the biggest bust for an action camera.
Dont find now héro 7 :/ I like it becaue of Lens Can bé changed incase of damage

Thanks for the comparison. I bought the Hero9 today. It was a tough choice between the 9 and the 8 for me but I prefer the front facing screen so I went with the 9 since I plan to grab the light mod and possibly the media mod. This way, I don’t have to bother with purchasing the screen too as the whole reason for buying a GoPro was for portability. I have a canon M50 that meets the remainder of my needs. This is a great video

Thanks alot for the gopro video comparison. Since I will use my 2nd action camera for MotoVloging so it obvious I need more battery life and also stabilization fitures. I found a 8 on clearance at Walmart for $200 last week its my first one, watched a couple vids and seen a lot of comments about the lense not detaching, imma order all the protective gear I think I might need and use the hell out of it the quality per size is amazing

Thanks for this comparison. With launch of the 10, I sold my 7 to buy a 8. The big benefit for me, with the 8, the frame is no longer needed. I use the GoPro mostly on a Motorcycle and now it is so much easier to change the battery.

Amazing, thanks for your review I don't own one but looking at the 10.
I use a gopro 7 on a tripod to record band shows. Each set is about an hour or so long so none of the newer gopro's are an option for me due to the overheating. The only other option would be to buy a usb powered clip on fan to blow onto the camera during the show but that's kinda lame to have to do something like that. The Insta360 one R 4K cam is a possible alternative as it doesn't really have overheating problems.

Was interested to see what came out from gopro after my osmo action. While my osmo action also gets very hot, it never turned off because of it. Also let it record for more 2 hours without issues.

Actually I'm still holding the Hero4. That's why, after watching at your video, the Horizon thing it's a game changer so I should go for the 9 at least.
I have the 7 black bought it when they were coming to end of production £199 brand new I'm happy with it for my mountain bike videos and will stick with it until it breaks 😁

My star time lapses with the Hero 8 Black do not seem to have the same quality as I have seen on other GoPros. Turn up the ISO at all to get stars to appear and I get horizontal lines of noise. Are any of the other versions better at star time lapses?

I was looking at a second / new camera because of the front screen. I have the 8 and buying the screen is 100 bucks the 8 is 350 so jumping to the ten and getting both plus an upgrade kinda feels right

Great review. 👍🏼 I still use the hero 7. I never upgraded to the Hero 8, 9 or 10 however. Ever since getting the insta360 OneX2, I use my GoPro less & less. I just find it more versatile for action stuff.
I have the insta 360 one x2 for my motovlogging, May be I will get the go pro 8 for action shooting. For me, go pro 9 and 10 are useless with 30 minutes battery life filming
Killer video Sam, I have a Hero 7, but need better quality low light footage, the Hero 10 looks good. Ive been price shopping the older 8 & 9 cams but It seems the 10 has so many great features and shooting in a resolution higher than 4k, wow! At least I know it won't be obsolete for another few years too haha. Thank you!!

if you do/did end up buying it, i don't recommend using anything higher than maybe 1440p60 or you're gonna last maybe 20-30 minutes before overheating lol

Well, 2.7k 50fps is fine for my usage, and I have a Hero 7 Black, and I bought a high-capacity third-party battery for it, which lasts about 45 minutes - not enough really as I do walkabout videos, with (as far as possible) no cuts. So the short battery life on the 10 could be a problem. On the other hand, swapping out the battery on the 10 looks easier as I don't have to extract the camera from its cage, right (assuming I don't use the Media module)? I could do with the horizon-levelling feature though.
well uh I just dropped my go pro 8 to the bottom of a lake... I really was excited to maybe get a 9 because of the front facing screen but now I see it's bigger and not any faster or much different other than that - do you think I should get another 8 or go for the 9 out of the two (10 seems like a little too expensive 4 me)
