      I came for this comment! The story is titled "The Adventure of the Lion's Mane" and was written in 1926. Watson is not in the story so Holmes is the narrator. I read it when I was a kid and it creeped me out, now I find it a fascinating story.

    I loved seeing these washed up on the beaches on the north coast of PEI. Less so when I was in the water. The sting was like a burn that lasted an hour or so

    If you count the tentacles as part of the animal, you could argue that this is actually the biggest animal living on Earth because it's even longer than the ~30 meter long blue whale!

      No, giant siphonophores grow to far far far FAR longer.

    • @MikkoRantalainen
      @MikkoRantalainen 14 дней назад

      @@moritamikamikara3879 Yeah, according to Wikipedia:
      "On April 6, 2020, the Schmidt Ocean Institute announced the discovery of a giant Apolemia siphonophore in submarine canyons near Ningaloo Coast, measuring 15 m (49 ft) diameter with a ring approximately 47 m (154 ft) long, possibly the largest siphonophore, and longest animal, ever recorded."
      Definitely longer than a blue whale.
