    This is a really good video to show how up and forward headers are not an easy option. I'm not sure if you are promoting them or if you are thinking they are a real problem. Either way you are educating people on what is going on and that deserves 2 thumbs up. I'm trying to turbocharge a small block chevy in a 81 chevy truck, and I'm going through the same problem. They almost touch the brake booster, and the outlets are too close to the radiator. I think any vehicle will have the same issues radiator, master cylinder, and the front accessory brackets. I think changing the plugs is probably the only thing that is easy on my situation.

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  Год назад +1

      Not really promoting them brother, just showing what needs to be done to use them. We’ve used them both NA and with boost on this car now and I’ve been very happy with the performance. As you can see from the more recent videos this car runs in the 5s now and these headers are still going strong. My only issue is I do with I could have ran them down and forward instead of up and forward, but we may be able to change that up once I eventually switch the steering over to a pinto rack. 👍

  • @knighthwk

    I have the up and forward headers from Ebay. Mine are shaped just a little different at the collector but same thing none the less. I have wrapped the headers and used the plug wire sock. The plug wires in the socks do sit on the headers but I figured with the dual layer it should be fine. I am also using the truck accessories. The only issue I have is the power steering cap is hard to remove. The back 2 plugs and each side are harder to change but not impossible. Have to use an extension and a wobbly socket. By the way, you think they are bad now, just wait until the headers are wrapped and then put the plugs and wires in/on. Hope you're wearing a long sleeve. My arms itched for days. I was also able to use the truck dipstick tube. I'm running 1 gt45 turbo mounted on the passenger side battery tray.

    Is this gunna be single or twin turbo, man you think about 5th gen manifolds down and forward?

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  4 года назад

      Honestly no I haven’t even thought about 5th gen manifolds. I’ve never my hands on them to see how they would fit. These things are garbage but they’re going to allow me to easily go from NA to Nitrous to twins with no fabrication. I can’t weld at all past globing weld on broken bolts to get them out. If you saw the turbo C10 I did a few years back you’ll note I had a buddy that did all my welding. We used truck manifolds down and forward on that build. He’s not around anymore. So the only welder I have is my cousin who works out of town a lot. That’s makes it difficult for me to get any real fabrication done. So I figured I’d go the cheap and easy route and see what I could do with these pieces of shit.

    • @fastone371
      @fastone371 Год назад

      It seems like any header that you can buy now is garbage. The fit is terrible, whoever designs them never even considers spark plug access or equal length tubes. I build a lot of custom headers, there is no doubt my customers end up with a large bill when finished but they are getting true equal length headers, straight plug sockets will fit on all spark plugs and I tuck the headers up nice and high in the chassis so they wont hit the ground. Apparently some guys do not mind paying for quality work, I am usually working on one set with 2 cars in line waiting. Have a good one and good luck with your projects.

    • @BadLuckGarage

      It probably would, but in the case of these headers it would be much easier to just shorten the wires I have to take the slack out. 😉 The last turbo build we did on the channel we used truck manifolds as well but instead of flipping them we left them down and swapped sides. Yes. The only reason I decided to try these is because I don’t have anyone to modify and weld a set of truck headers like we did in SteppinWolf. I can barely weld a glob to get broken exhaust bolts out with this flux core setup. No way can I modify manifolds and weld vbands. I’ve got a cousin who has a tig and is a welder in the sheet metal union but he travels a lot and I don’t think I could rely on him being able to do this.

    Could you get away with turning the coil brackets 180 degrees to shorten your plug wires?

    • @BadLuckGarage
      @BadLuckGarage  4 года назад

      I don’t think the wires would reach. But I’m thinking about moving them up closer to the fuel rails.

    Heat wrap and boots, I say to people, put chicken in tin foil and throw it on your grill... does the chicken cook?

      That’s was my thinking as well. Double layers FTW. But I’ve finally figured out the simple solution last night....shorter wires. Lol

    GM (and the rest of the "big-three" for that matter, yeah, I'm "that" old, ) have been running spark hoses "under " the exhaust manifolds since the 50's, I don't see why they couldn't be run that way on a late model LS

      They can and many people do, but theres no need really. Check out the solution video I did a few videos after this one to see what I came up with. Link is in the pinned comment.👍
