The killer went into the men's room thinking "there are no cops anywhere around, this will be a piece of cake, I should be able to kill about 50 before the cops get here". Unfortunately for him Elijah Dickens decided to go to the mall that day.
He is everything short of a hero. Only children think like that. He saw a gun in someone's hands, it hadn't been fired and he did not give the man an opportunity to disarm himself, something police are required to do.. He's mainly lucky that he didn't kill bystanders. Those police are irresponsible douchebags who instead of saying that this incident ended without additional deaths but we do not encourage armed citizens to have shootouts in malls instead thanked him for doing their jobs. The dead man's family not only has every right to sue everyone from the shooter to the mall owners to the city (thanks to that stupid statement by the police). And what of the next cowboy with lesser aim and intelligence who wants people to call him a hero and accidentally kills an innocent person? What laws protect armed citizens who open fire in public places? What laws protect the rest of us when they do? An armed shooter (both were citizens until immigration status proves otherwise) is an armed shooter and the same laws should apply to both.
Well the news said he is in trauma... As a combat USMC vet, I want to say that hitting (most likely) a moving target from that distance with a handgun is not easy. I assume the young man also used a sub-compact gun, making things even more difficult. I truly admire this man's bravery and skill set during that terrible circumstance.
10 rounds, 15 seconds, 8 hits on target at 40 yards. I’ve been shooting for a long time both LE special teams/instructor and as a civilian. 80% accuracy at that distance, with a pistol, that specific caliber and in that time is absolutely fantastic at a normal heart rate. This guy had adrenaline coursing through his body at rates that only perceived death can give you. Phenomenal bravery, reaction time and oh my god can this guy shoot!!!! His girlfriend’s quick reaction with the tourniquet as well?! These two are built for being responders. The fact that this shooter claimed 3 lives is horribly tragic, but imagine if Eli and his girlfriend hadn’t been at the mall the day…. When seconds matter, police are just minutes away.
USMC marksmanship instructor here............ legit the kid can shoot! most people cant hit a dinner plate at 25 feet let alone 40yds!!!!!! Outstanding!!!!!
Those were my first thoughts the accuracy that this man had at that distance with all the panic around and all that still managed to hit most shots is really just incredible.
@@SkibikeNW 2 things, shame on you for what you did to us! 🤣 Also, Semper Fi, brother. You’re 100% right. I spent the entire week on the range during recertification and I thought about that kid’s shots almost everyday. I’ve been in F/LE special teams as both an operator and instructor for some years, and while I can make those shots pretty regularly, when you add some berm runs in a full kit to simulate stress fire scenarios, I’m still not overly confident at 40 yards. If that kid didn’t believe in a higher before, he had to feel like someone else was assisting that recoil management that day.
The word "hero" is thrown around far too easily these days, but this young man is the real thing. Nice to see the local media and police supporting him rather than vilifying him.
This guy at 22 gave me hope that there are young people out there with maturity. You don't see that much. His calmness and bravery saved a lot of people. His parents should be so very proud. I hope he comes through it all well. Bless you Levi.
Oh please. Young people who act immaturely are magnified under the scope of social media. A combination of this and your generational biases may be the root cause of your false belief that young people in their 20’s are largely immature. Oh to be young again Donna!

Belief in messiah alone is not enough to grant you salvation - Matthew 7:21-23, John 3:3, John 3:36 (ESV is the best translation for John 3:36) if you believed in Messiah you would be following His commands as best as you could. If you are not a follower of Messiah I would highly recommend becoming one. Call on the name of Jesus and pray for Him to intervene in your life - Revelation 3:20. Contemplate how the Roman Empire fulfilled the role of the beast from the sea in Revelation 13. Revelation 17 confirms that it is in fact Rome. From this we can conclude that A) Jesus is the Son of God and can predict the future or make it happen, B) The world leaders/nations/governments etc have been conspiring together for the last 3000+ years going back to Babylon and before, C) History as we know it is fake. You don't really need to speculate once you start a relationship with God. Can't get a response from God? Fasting can help increase your perception and prayer can help initiate events. God will ignore you if your prayer does not align with His purpose (James 4:3) or if you are approaching Him when "unclean" (Isaiah 1:15, Isaiah 59:2, Micah 3:4). Stop eating food sacrificed to idols (McDonald's, Wendy's etc) stop glorifying yourself on social media or making other images of yourself (Second Commandment), stop gossiping about other people, stop watching obscene content etc. Have a blessed day!

Are we gonna have to return to the Wild West days where all of us carry a gun? Seems like 16 to 24 year old boys are a pretty dangerous group these days.
The young man is a hero, no doubt about it, but considering the grandma says he needs prayers leads me to believe he’s struggling to some degree with the reality of the situation. Let’s not dismiss how he may be feeling and let’s do what she has asked. Being a hero comes with a heavy load. Let’s not forget that.
I had already sent up a prayer for our hero. Also for the family’s who lost loved one, including the shooter’s family. Prayer is an amazing thing, folks. Pray for peace in their heart and mind.
Why isn’t this guy on the front page of every newspaper? Media is very quick to state the name of all the shooters. This is one for the “good guys!” Give this guy some praise and much-needed credit. A true hero…
Honestly the supreme court needs to find some way to deal with the media regarding this. They only help make more copycat mass shooters by broadcasting their names so much. It's what many of those P.O.S. want, the attention or to spread a twisted message, and the media gives it to them.
I’m really happy they didn’t cut out the aspect of how hard it can be to take a life regardless of circumstance. My prayers are with him and all those hurt.
@@wdubduece8913 no definitely not he deserved to die, but the trauma that someone goes through isn’t rational so our brains can’t make sense of it. Trauma is irrational so you can’t make sense of it, sometimes when you feel like you shouldn’t feel trauma because you did the right thing. Cops still get ptsd for killing a dude that had a gun to his wife’s head and raped his kids. @@wdubduece8913 does that make sense? Isn't that basically the definition of "vigilante"? I mean one of the definitions of vigilante is "a self-appointed doer of justice", I don't understand why you see it as an insult
The whole crime scene I can map out in my head. Been there dozens of times. To say Elijah is a hero is an understatement. The firing lane he had is a challenge even for elite marksman. So many obstacles, such a distance. Just remarkable.

No shit thats why he did it. But its not a nice thing to have to do. Nor is it easy to just move on from. If you had to do it one time. It would be hard to at the very least, NOT be on edge for the rest of your life. So its more than just taking a life. Its also being able to relax enough in future and live a normal life again.
I have a long list of things that make me lose sleep in my life. killing a monster that was going to kill innocent children, women and men at a mall for no reason wouldn't be on it. I do agree though probably will be hard to get to feel safe in public after this for really anyone that was there.
Here in Indiana our little gun ranges usually don't let you shoot from any closer than about 50 yards even with handguns (assuming your shooting steel outside). He's an average everyday American Citizen who did the right thing, as anyone would've and should've.
This guy is so young, yet he handled the situation like he had tactical training. Hitting a moving target from that distance takes some practice. I've gone to the gun range a few times. But aim was far from perfect. This guy has some alpha in him. Hats off to him.
40 yards is not an easy shot to take. Now I don't know how many of those 10 rounds he hit but even one hit at a mobile target at 40 yards is extremely well done.
"He needs prayers because...to take somebody's life is hard." Everyone needs to stop and think about what really made this man a hero. His sacrifice will be remembering this horrible day with perfect clarity until he draws his last breath.
I could kill a bad man and then have lunch without a second thought jackass. You seem to quote Clint Eastwood movies and feel like a man. If you were a bad man I'd send you to hell in a fucking heartbeat
I agree that this moment in time will be with him for the rest of his life. However, I do believe that the good Lord will help ease his conscience, that and the passage of time will help him sort things out, I pray, so that he did the right thing and therefore bears no guilt or prejudice. I believe angels will be watching over him.
He claps the shooter almost instantly and she’s applying tourniquets to other victim’s... outstanding, the youngsters did everything you can possibly do in a situation like that!

I carry whether there is a sticker on the front door or not, concealed of course. It's a rule of a business not a law. There rules don't stop the bad guy, now do they.
Had this young man followed the malls Anti-Gun Policy and thought "Maybe I should leave my gun in the car" - Soo many more would have been slain. You know what saved lives that day? *A brave young man who refused to comply with Unconstitutional Firearm Policies* HERO!!
This man is a hero! And no one thinks what he has to go through mentally knowing he took a life, but to save others. He’s a regular person like any of us. And thank god he was carrying that day.
I know what he has to go through. When on is young it can be easier. It was for me, 51 years ago when I was a 20thSOS helicopter gunner attached to MACV-SOG. The hard part is living the rest of one's life with the memories of taking a life. I hope that the "Good Samaritan" can live with the responsibility of taking another's life. I just pray he will be okay. People are tired of these nut jobs shooting other people for no reason. I wish there were more Eli’s in the world.
What strikes me most is that he had the situational awareness to care for his girlfriend first by pushing her down, eliminating the target (from 40 yards away without a laser), and then wave people behind him to safety. This is stuff that takes years of training to become proficient at, and this 22 year old man handled it like a pro. Then add in the fact that his gf places a tourniquet on a lady shot in the leg as this was unfolding... This kind of selflessness and poise in this situation gives me some hope for our future!
To be honest it is because no amount of training can prepare you for this. You are either a hero or not, these were inherent traits. Hence why the "highly trained" police at Uvalde failed miserably.
As a combat veteran I can say from experience.. That HERO did not "take someone's life" he eliminated a piece of sh!t and saved so many lives!!! That's what matters, He saved lives.. Innocent people's lives. What a stud y'all 🇺🇸💪💯
It's still taking someone's life and to think you're a combat veteran saying this the way you did it wouldn't be surprising if you've committed crimes over seas. No real combat veteran speaks like you and if they do it's because they psychopaths who enjoyed killing.

If the shooter hadn't been stopped, I'm quite sure the police would have done the same thing that happened during the Texas school shooting. 40 yards?! Dudes a legend. A lot of people don’t understand how difficult it is to shoot at that distance with a pistol. Plus with the adrenaline dump he had to be feeling.
He did not "fire 10 rounds from 40 yards away". According to an interview with his attorney, Dicken actually fired 4 rounds from 40 yards, braced on a garbage can, hitting the rifleman twice. Then, he cut the distance to 20 yards and fired 4 more rounds, hitting the rifleman all 4 times. Then, he cut the distance again to 7 yards, and fired 2 more rounds, hitting the rifleman both times. It was all done with a Glock 19 with damaged sights. It's still and epic display of skill killing the aggressor.

This is terrible...a gun mall shooter can't safely do his job until all fire arms are banned...I would write the hero a OSHA violation for creating an unsafe working environment for the active shooter
For him to make that split- second decision to engage a gunman and protect others instead of fleeing to safety himself shows a great level of maturity and heroism. He had NO (legal) obligation to engage the shooter, he could have ran with the others. Something tells me that he quickly realized his MORAL obligation to help his fellow human beings that were in danger. May God bless him for his actions and give him peace of mind for the actions that he will have to live with the rest of his life.

This man is a hero! And no one thinks what he has to go through mentally knowing he took a life, but to save others. He’s a regular person like any of us. And thank god he was carrying that day.
Taking a criminal's life to save many is a good trade off. He deserves a medal!!
Good luck and may God look over you.

Damn, 40 yards with a pistol and took down the mass killer armed with a rifle, that's tremendous courage and marksmanship right here
This is how law enforcement should be instead always worrying about the political ramifications. Well done,HERO!
40 yards is a helluva shot with a hand gun. You can guarantee this young man spends time at a gun range
