Smartest thing that guy did that day was to leave before they identified him. No good deed goes unpunished.

Might be alright in this situation but what about an active shooter in say a large shopping mall? How do the police tell who is the good guy/s and who is/are the bad guy/s when they arrive with little information?

You should never get involved as a 3rd party. Inserting yourself as a 3rd party when you dont know the full story is a huge error. 1st off the police have qualified immunity. The rest of us do not. 2nd you have no idea if the cop is a criminal. Cops can be just as dangerous as any criminal. In fact they usually are more dangerous because people trust the state too much
@@captaincapitalism264 In the handful of active shooter first response videos I’ve seen, I noticed the officer flanks then immediately drops the shooter. No commands, no warning. It might be part of the training or maybe the shooter was currently drawn on someone. I don’t know because it’s always blurred but It’s enough for me to really consider the consequences of helping in that situation.
Typical worker vs management. The lady cop was grateful and had the balls to say so. The middle management, just saw liabilities, and spewd some cooperate vomit.

"Don't try to copy us" I'm sorry what? What a shithead officer.
I almost got shot a few years back. Iam a 15 year federal officer. I had just got off duty. I changed out of uniform as soon as I get off. I had my badge on my hip and my duty weapon. Some dude walked up to me and asked for a light. It was a joint but I was off the clock so I didn't give a shit. I lit it for him and his friend my neighbor yelled out that I was a cop. He pulled a knife and started walking towards me. My wife had came out I told her to get back in the house. I called the local dispatch who recognized my voice and said they were sending help. I kept backing up he kept following me. If he would have been white I probably would have fired but this was the height of BLM and I didn't want to be on the news for that shit. A female officer pulls in and sees my weapon starts yelling for me to drop it I told her I wasn't throwing my 1911 on the ground where he could reach it so I placed it on my tail bed and turned so she could see my badge and I yelled to hear who I was. Suspect took off they lost sight of him. That night he killed his ex wife and sister. Now I have to leave with not taking the shot.

Notice how appreciative the officer on scene was for the help. While the ones who werent in peril condemned the help.
It’s just because it’s dangerous for the civilian himself. An officer arrives as backup and sees someone in plain clothing they don’t recognize with a gun, they could not know if he’s good or bad. He is a liberal asshole, what do you expect.
I would be more concerned on how see went straight to the back of their car instead of staying in cover. The other guy was not in any cover either so I guess both of them need training.
Here in my town a cop shot another cop in a no knock warrant 😅😅 so yeah
It's pretty sad when police think they are the only ones who have any form of weapons training.
Yeah, he claimed it was a problem because he doesn't know whether someone is properly trained. Meanwhile, a whole lot of LEOs are not _properly_ trained. I live in a town where the local PD uses one of the public ranges, instead of having their own (no money in the budget for their own facility). It's actually kinda nice because there's a lot of friendly interaction between us and our local cops. However, most of them are definitely not marksmen and several are more likely to sweep someone than the majority of people using the range. It _has_ helped them to want to be better, because getting out-shot by a bunch of regular Joes is a little embarrassing. However, they're not there, yet. I can't imagine how bad it is in places where officers train in private, and don't have to worry about the public seeing that they're a terrible shot.
Cops use the range I belong to. It's pretty sad to see at times.
agreed.
Going to the range or taking some kind of self defense class does not make you a cop. They have specific training that they together with other cops so that when shit hits the fan everyone knows what everyone else is doing. If some rando shows up they don't know how the cops operate and they could cause confusion and do more harm than good. Like how the guy was initially pointing his gun in the direction of the officer and she had to correct him. That's not what we want. Not to mention all the legal issues that could arise from a civilian getting involved and screwing up something
The well-meaning guy didn't even know he was in a crossfire situation with the officer. Awareness is vital.
The cop who has 6 weeks of training worried about the good Samaritan doesn't have training, unreal. Be happy you had somebody that balls to help your sorry ass out when there was only 1 cop and 4 suspects
Dang. Where do cops only get 6 weeks of training? Where I live it is 28 weeks averaging about 12 hours a day and when you graduate you are then in a field training program where you work with a designated officer for 1 year.
If he hadn't helped and stood there and watched as this cop gets beaten or killed, then what will they be saying.
His argument leads directly to "you aren't qualified to defend yourself". Super glad that good samaritan left w/o getting ID'ed.
We should petition to have that dude removed from the department on the count of his being a tyrant with a monopoly on violence and all.

Well we know he wasn’t a person of color or he would be dead.
Having taken the Glock Armorers class three times over the years, I am the only civilian in the class. Everyone else is LEO and some of those are former military. Instructor asked how many rounds a year do you shoot in training. Some responded, maybe half, between 500 and 1000. There were a couple that were up around 6 to 7k, but they were SWAT members. Average was around 500 rounds or less. All due respect, LEOs are not as well trained with firearms as everyone is led to believe.

House Arrest is NOT Getting Criminals Off the Streets.
Liberals & progressives in Washington state consider sentences like house arrest & ankle monitors as tough punishment, criminals consider both as a joke & easy to evade. You're never going to convince liberals that criminals are not victims of society, which is why they should have as little to do with writing criminal statutes as possible. In the state of Washington that's impossible because they control the legislature. That's a major reason for the decline of that state & its decent into lawlessness..
True
yeah, but those on house arrest are paying $300-900 a month for their ankle monitor, and if they miss a payment, cut it off, or fail to charge it and it goes dead, they get an immediate bench warrant. So house arrest truly sucks for the defendant. Had someone I knew on house arrest for an assault. He called it being on a 6-month "payment plan" with the County

I would argue a person who is Concealed carry would fall under this definition. As first active support for police officers to render first aid and cpr and support or cover fire. this is america, if you cant at least handle a gun in a fight you need to get out.
Most cops are barely trained with firearms. Training budgets suck and a good percentage of cops aren’t “gun guys.”
Civilians don't get trained on how to handle and use guns in law enforcement situations and scenarios. They usually know nothing of police tactics or strategy, much less having practiced them. They are liable to flag friendlies in high stress situations or even shoot them. They are much more likely to give into instinct or impulse and dangerously escalate a situation where cooler heads would otherwise prevail. Civilians are trained how to handle guns in a recreational setting, or for self/home defence, NOT on how to use them as law enforcement tools. Some are well trained to use them effectively for self defence, but that has limited relevance in a LE situation. Totally different things.

Give me a break, and they should be thanking the guy for putting his life on the line.
Dude obviously just wanted to be involved in some way. Just because some cops do stupid stuff and are bad at managing crossfire doesn't give a green light to randos also being bad at managing crossfire.
You are absolutely right!
Well damn you should know that Kyle rittonho should be there
He’s butthurt because a mere civilian showed him up🙄
@RoverTheDog1 Then again, the dude could be a vet that has 100 times experience of the cop.
As a Police Officer, personally, I would have been appreciative for the citizens assistance.
Right on. 👍🏻
Untrained?? How the hell do you know son?? 😂 He won’t complain it’s his ass and a Veteran/Security Officer saved his narrow ass
I dont think ANY officer would want to be alone in an active shooter/hostile felony situation!!
As a police officer, you'd be lucky - VERY LUCKY to get assistance.
Too many of your colleagues are nothing more than armed thugs that get a kick out of ruining peoples lives - and even justify (falsely accusing the innocent) it as "oh, it just makes up for something you DIDN'T get caught for".
Citizen assistance. Cops are not military. They are not in a combat zone. Please understand the distinction.

This comment section did not disappoint. I'm happy people in here backed the civilian and the lady cop. It's good to see.
Sergeant said he "cringes" at these cases? The previous case they showed - one of the citizens was ex-military and he was far from "not qualified". They saved two officers that were shot to the head. Yet, Sergeant over here cringes. Wow.
I understand there is risk involved and it can cause confusion to have a civilian at the scene with a gun drawn but wow. Just Wow.
"She had to trust a complete stranger" you know how the average public feels now about police
That's kinda your fault, though. They are public servants, get to know your local PD 😅😅
It's the civilians fault for how people who have power over them treat them... What? @@dgustaramirez
After listening to that Sergeant, I would be a lot more hesitant to assist an officer in need. Pretty much explains how they view all civilians.
@@dgustaramirez Where are you from? Id love to show you more about your local pd. I work with alot of departments and every single one of them has a bad batch.
A stranger is just a friend you haven't met.
He was very incorrect to suggest that civilians are less qualified or skilled.
What are you talking about? He is definitely correct in saying that, some random Joe comes up you don’t know his quals. The average gun owner doesn’t train for shit most shoot once a year and pack up their gun back in the safe. You can tell that pretty quickly when the officer had to make the dude aware of crossfire and then the dude puts his gun in holster to move. The dude obviously does not train.
@@wafflehouse6650 After watching videos of multiple police firing on a suspect and all missing, who knows the level of competence the police have?
I laugh at every cop that thinks they are more trained than me. Infantry with tons of training. What are they? 8 weeks of weak boot camp. Lol
1000%
The cop thinks he’s a navy seal and citizens are dumb
Its good to hear these stories we dont hear enough of them.
I love how that cop said that the civilian was untrained..! yet the female cop stood there and said to watch his crossfire and move left, and he said yes ma'am and holstered his weapon and moved to the left as she asked!!! And then he pulled his weapon again to assist her, if that don't scream that this guy is very trained I don't know would...
Did you see that leg stance on him? Definitely not much training !
Did you notice how that hot cop chick snuck up on those kids getting high and placed the tire poppers under their car without even attempting to let them know she was there? Then she "jump startled" them, causing them to flee in panic, so now they can be charged with fleeing an officer, that they didn't even know snuck under their car, in addition to having to buy 4 new tires. Sneaky little tyrants they are. Watch out!
Exactly, that dude was very well trained and performed top notch. The second best thing he did was extradite himself before Sergent brown nose arrived.
The Sgt. needs to stop being ungrateful. The officer was very grateful.
@carycoller3140, pretty sure he was grateful and grateful that nothing bad that COULD have happened, actually happened. Thankfully it was a positive outcome but the next "intervention" might not be and someone's Mom/Dad could end up dead be it the civilian or Officer because of such a situation. It's also possible that criminals could try to ambush Police by "pretending to be there to help" and then take their lives. Then what happens the next time a random civilian tries to actually help and the civilian gets shot dead by Police. This can go on and on. So the Sgt., has right to be grateful but discourage the practice in general for the safety of the public and Officers.
A new notch in a citizens belt. Excellent all the way.
You both honestly performed incredibly well.
Never tell the public you would not welcome their assistance. Police need all the help they can get today.
No they really fucking don’t. This is a good way to die with how many things could happen
What this female deputy realized, that her male counterpart did not, is that it’s not us against you, it’s all of US against them. Not everybody’s out to get you my man, that gentleman who helped the deputy was calm, cool and collected under pressure. That’s what you should be training to be, not scared of the public.
Most female police officers act and control public interactions way better than their male counterparts. What women lack in physical strength they make up for in brains, intelligence, and empathy, and they can politely and respectfully gain cooperation and control without immediately resorting to physical violence and intimidation like most male police officers.
She didn't know who he was! There are too many bad outcomes in the details of each scenario. Don't be a fool with this John Wayne stuff.

To us, "police" are total strangers - with a gun - and we're supposed to "trust" them.
Despite the horrendous number of innocent people killed by police. (Last time I checked, the average citizen was something like FOUR HUNDRED TIMES more likely to be killed - innocently - by "law enforcement" than in a genuine terrorist incident).
@@DMack6464 How many cops do you personally know? Most are strangers with guns, poor training and virtually no accountability for when they make a "mistake". A legally armed citizen is far better trained and does have consequences for getting it wrong, even if they had good intentions.

A civilian untrained? How would that Sargeant know this? Alot of civilians have more training than beat cops!
This may be dumb of me, but I thought in order to get a gun you had to train to get it ? Or is it just if you get it, you then can either go train to use it or not ?
The Sgt corrected his statement on the fly. They didn't know his level of training. Anyhow, in this situation, the civilian drew his weapon and was standing in a cross fire with the deputies and also not behind cover. Would you say trained or untrained?
@@Bootyjuice.. Depends on the state. Most states allow you to buy a gun without showing proficiency, but many states make you take a class and prove that you are a competent shooter whenever you get a concealed carry license.

When I was a younger Marine Officer i pulled over on the side of I-35 because this guy was chasing this woman around the car. Got out in uniform with my service weapon on me. I asked him to stop, told her to get into my vehicle. He went toward his car and started to search for something. I pulled out my .45 and was dead set on killing him if he pulled out a weapon and I told him so. He took off and Highway Patrol showed up. I gave them the tag number and they took the young lady to the hospital. The officer never questioned me about my gun, he was former service as well, called my sir and by my rank.
