Working presence must also apply for the FULL Congress. All Senators, and there staff must be present at all time when the Senat is in action. This also must go for the House. We the people have enough to see all these empty seats. Amen & Amen

One of the legit reasons you see empty seats is because members are elsewhere in the building serving on committees and at hearings. Better organisation of the work schedule could help alleviate some of these absences. I’m sure there are quite a lot of members just sitting in their offices just ignoring their jobs and they are the one that need to be held to account.

As a retired govt R&D engineer, worked at a navy lab in dc area, this telework bunk is ridiculous. I was much more efficient working from home than having to waste 3 hrs a day commuting in the worst traffic in the country. Now there are circumstances of job tasks when I would have to go to the lab, but most of my work was doing computer analysis and simulations which I could do anywhere I had a fast internet connection. I began teleworking as a test case in the 1990s at my job under direction of managers, and they were so pleased at the results that they encouraged me to telework more, not less.
Sell or get out from under the office building requirement, it would save the govt huge money in the cost of maintaining office building space for employees. This idea that everyone has to sit at a desk in the same space to be productive is idiotic and outdated.

    • @olpaint71
      @olpaint71 7 часов назад +4

You think you were more effective working from home, but was the department and agency more effective? Maybe you were the minority exception, but most people evaluate their telework effectiveness based on a narrow view of what they are working on. But collaborative work is far less effective between remote personnel. Cross-training and experiential training is virtually eliminated. How often did you overhear a conversation in the office where your area of expertise was affected--if you were teleworking, the answer is zero.
There's utility in telework/remote work. But it has severe limitations, as well.

@JoanneLayman what does this mean? Are you talking about 98% of your time in office, 8 hours - 2 15-minute breaks and lunch 30 minutes to an hour? Do meetings count as productive times?

Coming in to work is a joke for most federal employees. I've had experience with nuclear regulators back in 2022 who laughed about having to show up to a one hour emergency preparedness drill, then they could go have a long lunch and pick up their kid from school, like a normal day. Many federal workers have multiple remote jobs, and some are even out of the country, drawing their full salaries from the taxpayers while they exist on permanent vacation.

Work results should be quantifiable with suitable standards of performance. If not people working at home is an allusion. As a former supervisor I found very few who produced at the same level as in office. Some can do it but if organizations have a work at home policy it is for all in similar jobs - you can't select on the work ethic of the employee.

    elect me king and:
    1) 4 terms in the house
    2) 2 terms in the senate
    3) pay is based off the average national income as reported by the IRS
    4) all campaign financial donations can only come from people that live full time in the voting district for each candidate. no unions, no corporations, and no PACs.
    5) no government retirement for any government workers, they need to be on SS just like the rest of "the people" are forced to be on and pay into.
    6) cut the federal workforce by 10% per year until it stops being able to function, then freeze it there.
    7) cut all federal pay to the national average income.
    8) rewards given to those that come forward with proof of fraud in their departments.

@joedoe6444 your points 3 and 4 are good ones. As to number 5, federal employees pay into their retirement fund and also pay into a 401k similar plan. They also pay into Social Security. Cutting the workforce can be accomplished by eliminating unnecessary agencies, of which there are many, is much simpler than cutting the workforce by 10%.
