As a retired govt R&D engineer, worked at a navy lab in dc area, this telework bunk is ridiculous. I was much more efficient working from home than having to waste 3 hrs a day commuting in the worst traffic in the country. Now there are circumstances of job tasks when I would have to go to the lab, but most of my work was doing computer analysis and simulations which I could do anywhere I had a fast internet connection. I began teleworking as a test case in the 1990s at my job under direction of managers, and they were so pleased at the results that they encouraged me to telework more, not less. Sell or get out from under the office building requirement, it would save the govt huge money in the cost of maintaining office building space for employees. This idea that everyone has to sit at a desk in the same space to be productive is idiotic and outdated.
You think you were more effective working from home, but was the department and agency more effective? Maybe you were the minority exception, but most people evaluate their telework effectiveness based on a narrow view of what they are working on. But collaborative work is far less effective between remote personnel. Cross-training and experiential training is virtually eliminated. How often did you overhear a conversation in the office where your area of expertise was affected--if you were teleworking, the answer is zero. There's utility in telework/remote work. But it has severe limitations, as well.
Truth is rarely welcomed but I thank you for speaking it. This is a giant charade intended to distract the masses from the messes created by Congress. Telework is an absolute win/win but the bosses are now pointing at the pee-ons in hopes that the employees become the target of the nation’s wrath.
@@olpaint71This is the most polite, reasonable rebuttal I had the pleasure to read in a long while. I was going to say the same thing but with much less style.
Its too bad you are in the minority. 60% of remote workers in the govt...dont earn their pay. Join meetings..do little. Going to back to the office penalizes good employees..but a must to change the covid culture.
I have some ideas...You start by only having 1 subject at a time in the bills and then require it is written in plain English so regular people can understand the rationale and objectives. Then require bills are read, understood and passed the Constitutional requirements are met. NO ONE should be voting on bills that they have no idea what's in them fully and completely.
They didn’t want to stay home, they closed the office and instructed them to telework. The alternative would be multiple car crashes and workers stuck in their cars for hours where they cannot do any work. Maybe being less populistic can help.
Apply this to Congress, too. If they don't show up to chambers, they don't get paid and get fired. Lots of new elections until we get real workers not drones.
@@1001Balance Moving many offices to various states would eliminate being stuck in cars for hours. I have driven in DC and know traffic can be bad, but I've never been stuck in my car for hours. At the very least, make ALL veterans exempt from income taxes. For the historically 3% of the population that serves, not taxing their income isn't going to dent the federal budget, but what a difference it would make in the lives of those that offered themselves in service of our country.
If a penny cost 3 cents to make and is reused 100's of times a year and for many, many years the 3 cents is justified. Keeping cash alive makes sense. Unless you want to track and tax each penny spent.

This is a bit challenging to hear. I’m a federal employee. Monday and Tuesday our location was “code red”, meaning we weren’t allowed to be on location. Like we get rejected at the gate. So… yeah, Monday and Tuesday feds were remote. Because they weren’t allowed to “go to work”. Somewhat ironically, those with telework agreements were required to work a normal day. Folks without telework agreements actually had the day off.
I’m a civil servant too. I’m finding increasingly this is just more political talking points, not real meaningful reform. As a middle manager, I can say about half my branch is at work in person.
@@MommaBaoyep. Flex their muscle on things that don’t matter and won’t put a dent in the budget. We had snow storm and worked from home this week. The office was closed. Indeed. My wife has been a fed govt employee for 34 years but does not have the age to retire. She had a lumpectomy done in December. Has radiation treatments to go to once a day(starting soon) and an hour and a half drive to DC. She's used some of her leave for recovery from surgery. Yet, her boss is making her sign papers to make sure she does her job while she teleworks every day. Just frustrating to me that most people do not seem to know the consequences of what "might" happen.
@tinker3504 NOT all federal employees work in DC. As a retired federal employee I can assure you that the abuse is occurring in other agencies and areas of the country. As to the 'code red' issued for Monday and Tuesday in DC, it was unnecessary.
@ my comment was about the beginning of the video. No more and no less. Maintain scope. I didn’t say the code red was necessary. But federal employees had no power over it. That’s the point. They go to gate, they aren’t allowed in. Why? Because code red. Yet she made a point to go over how most feds didn’t physically go to work. They were told they weren’t allowed…
This is hilarious that it's only being looked at now. This is going on almost five years, probably their own employees. This is not the only issue with the government at this time. It's interesting how people from outside the DMV don't really know what really goes on there.
A govt employee lives next to me,, during work hours they walk their dog 5 times a day but after work hours the poor dog doesn’t get walked,,,Also the cars only gets washed during work hours. I wonder if the frequency of calling in sick has lessen.
Sen. Ernst's association with DOGE puts the whole project at risk. She is a Proven Swamp Creature. She mentions Sen. Lankford, author of the "Bi-Partisan Border Bill" which was bad bad bad. There have to be more capable folks in congress. Yes, definitely get federal employees back to the office. Note: don't confuse 'Employees' with 'Workers'. They are not the same.
When I worked in the Federal Government manpower goals were based on 60% productivity per manhour worked. Reminded me of a college class I took once in which the first day of class the instructor said, this is what you need to do to make a "C" in my class. My observation has been any business operating at 60% efficiency usually doesn't last long.
@richardchumbley4382 i get it. I once worked for an agency division where the director stated at an employee meeting that 98% productivity was acceptable yet negative employee evaluations were written based on that very statistic.
@JoanneLayman what does this mean? Are you talking about 98% of your time in office, 8 hours - 2 15-minute breaks and lunch 30 minutes to an hour? Do meetings count as productive times?
Coming in to work is a joke for most federal employees. I've had experience with nuclear regulators back in 2022 who laughed about having to show up to a one hour emergency preparedness drill, then they could go have a long lunch and pick up their kid from school, like a normal day. Many federal workers have multiple remote jobs, and some are even out of the country, drawing their full salaries from the taxpayers while they exist on permanent vacation.
Work results should be quantifiable with suitable standards of performance. If not people working at home is an allusion. As a former supervisor I found very few who produced at the same level as in office. Some can do it but if organizations have a work at home policy it is for all in similar jobs - you can't select on the work ethic of the employee.

@joedoe6444 your points 3 and 4 are good ones. As to number 5, federal employees pay into their retirement fund and also pay into a 401k similar plan. They also pay into Social Security. Cutting the workforce can be accomplished by eliminating unnecessary agencies, of which there are many, is much simpler than cutting the workforce by 10%.

I wish I had a $70,000 a year job with insane bennifits and not have to work for it.
That would be swell.
You should apply if it's so great.
@JJ-nu8qi Those jobs are not going to exist anymore. Aren't you paying attention?
@thegrayplace Haha, keep telling yourself that. This comment will still be here in 4 years. Check back with me then.
Me too!! Where is it? Oh, are you talking about Congress not federal employees, my bad.
@@JJ-nu8qi ok. See you then. I love going back to my last four years of posts when I'm telling everyone Trump was going to win again. Big fun.
If Gov employees don't want to come in to work than defund their position!
Send them packing.
I think they CAN"T DEFUND 1 Department within a Department . They have to get rid of the entire Agency ( But i could be wrong ) Can't get rid of individuals - But i wish they could
Facts ! If they don’t wanna work they can hire Americans that actually want to work ! Send those public servants to pick the fruit in the fields . That simple !
@@stever1791 then they ALL go!
Great, let your taxes pay for the buildings, the water, the heat and AC needed to maintain people 9 hours a day. You can check if people are doing their work by checking if their work is done! Why are you wasting money to take care of employees' physical needs unnecessarily? Do you know how much my water, electric and heat bill went up when I worked from home? ALOT. But now my employer pays that bill for me since I'm in the office and my needs are taken care of there.
Sure does explain why our Beautiful Country is currently being run into the ground‼️ TYSM Senator Ernst❣️ This American Citizen, daughter of a LEGAL immigrant & a true Patriot, GREATLY appreciates & applauds you❣️🇺🇸❤️🤍💙MAGA
Every spending bill should have public scrutiny before being voted on ! Wouldnt that be a an eye opener !!
what, do you think we live in some kind of democracy or the government using our tax money for our benefit?
lol, that's what the people vote for the POTUS elect mandate not a the unelected swamp creatures
LOL! As if the "public" would bother to spend the time to read and comprehend the thousands of pages in each spending bill. Nice theory. Would never work in practice.

Every second is monitored. Lazy asses go to an office to play pn computers, cell phones and chat
@@sincerelyspecial3386 You do realize you can check if people's work is done remotely, right? The computer?? Ring a bell?
@@michah321yeah I know someone who works for the IRS and they keep a timer on their phone to go off to run back to their computer and move the mouse around a few times. They laugh and joke about how they only really work a couple of hours a day……so NO their work isn’t monitored by their computer.
@toupiebear and they complete their work. You think paying someone 70k a year to stand over them like kindergartens gets more done? It doesn't. Have you worked in an office? If people do are not on task it doesn't matter where they are. Set the standards. If people meet their goals they earned their salary. It doesn't matter how long it takes. They're paid for an amount of work, not the number of hours. You're not getting more work out of people if you honestly think that's a thing. Forcing them to plod along for 8 hours, they'll just work slower. It happens all the time. Save the money on the building. 15 billion a year for control freaks to think they're doing something
I worked in IT in a Civil Service engineering organization in the early '90s. Out of 10 of us, only a couple of us actually worked at least our 8 hours every day. Most didn't really produce 8 hours of work in any given 40-hour week. Roll On DOGE!!!
Think Federalism!! 80% or more of the money sent to Dc does not have to be there as it was meant to be spent at the state level, based upn the needs that each state decides they need!! That should be the goal, to return every dime back to state control, if needed, not mandated by the swamp!!!1
Spot on. The worst state in the nation spends its money better than the federal government. Vermont isn't Mississippi. When you spend dollars from thousands of miles away, you mostly waste that money.
Outstanding!!! Could we investigate every member of the house and senate for insider trading and their spouses.
DOGE will fix much of this. Release the ELON!!
I wish I was as confident as you. Trust me the swamp will dig in it's heals to protect their self-appointed dominion and jobs. And then there will be the bleeding-heart pols that can't handle the personal stories relayed to them directly by the non-deserving while the tax payers are many many miles away.
Im terrified they will still try to arrest or kill trump and his crew on inauguration day, especially since biden doj justvwent to veteran affairs to hire special security forces, for the 20th james okeefe just did a story on this
Elon Musk, the guy who wants to replace American workers with indentured servants just to continue suppressing American wages
@PorterPickUp The average salary at Tesla for new hires in 2023 was $149k. Now THAT'S suppression!
They will not fire 100,000s of workers overnight and kill tge economy to higher bone heads that live near an office.
Stop paying $10,000 a screw in defense contracts.
‘Culture’ is such a garbage term, abused and misused to justify oppression.
Praying that this issue can be fixed.
I sure did NOT see this on the news! Thank you Senator!
Approve all Trump’s cabinet nominees, Joni. Do not test we the MAGA base; you’ll be primaried so fast your head will spin.
Good luck
I hope she gets primaried. Because she went against everything she campaigned on. I’m never voting for her again!!
When the federal government employee don't
go to work. Tell them to stay home and lose their jobs, benefits and medical coverage.
😎👍
Govt workers do not understand how the real business world works. We have a few in our fam.
I like your idea that the full reading aloud on the floor of the bill should be mandatory before the vote commences.
If they wanna stay home, stop paying them
They didn’t want to stay home, they closed the office and instructed them to telework. The alternative would be multiple car crashes and workers stuck in their cars for hours where they cannot do any work. Maybe being less populistic can help.
Apply this to Congress, too. If they don't show up to chambers, they don't get paid and get fired. Lots of new elections until we get real workers not drones.
To quote the movie Office Space, "we fixed the glitch".
@@1001Balance Moving many offices to various states would eliminate being stuck in cars for hours. I have driven in DC and know traffic can be bad, but I've never been stuck in my car for hours. On the other hand, where I live in NC, I've never been stuck in my car more than a few minutes waiting for a train to pass or waiting a minute to get past a road work site.

What an absurd government
Been this way since the mistakes started in the 1920s. Women run world, what'd we really expect?
I think we should go back to tariffs and sales tax and no more income tax nationwide!!! this is absolutely ridiculous.
At the very least, make ALL veterans exempt from income taxes. For the historically 3% of the population that serves, not taxing their income isn't going to dent the federal budget, but what a difference it would make in the lives of those that offered themselves in service of our country.
Politicians should be #1 on the list as most do not woerk for us & we the people are the Fed Govt.
Bring it on DOGE, I can't wait to see what you guys do!!!!!
Ok so how much work does the politicians actually do?!
Something like 10 minutes a week.
Good on you Ma'm!!! Thank you for the work you've done, & will do!!!!
If a penny cost 3 cents to make and is reused 100's of times a year and for many, many years the 3 cents is justified. Keeping cash alive makes sense. Unless you want to track and tax each penny spent.
Or just stop making the penny.......😮
Don't chicken out. It has to be done!
Here's an idea from the peanut gallery. On the set day government workers are ordered back into the office, cut their pay. After three warnings to report into work, cut their position or fill it with someone willing to the work IN THE OFFICE!! No work, no pay....that's how it's worked my whole life!!!
Do it like Twitter. Elon emailed the whole company if you don't show up on a work day we will assume you have resigned. A lot of people didn't show up the next day. That was easy.
Government works different, it's all "kiss-ass".

There is not 1 good reason this country isn't in surplus every year. The billions wasted is obnoxious and someone needs to be held accountable.
The state of Florida passed laws requiring many of the things being suggested for the Federal government. Consequently, without state income tax, Florida operates in the green and was able to help victims of this year’s hurricanes from an established emergency fund.

@eyeizzbizzy It's just a big game. If you think something is going to change for regular people, you aren't paying attention.
Restrict any and all politicians from the stock markets, as they have specific knowledge on what companies are merging, proposed congressional ties, etc. A good example is Pelosi. How did she outsmart investors 97% of the time? Insider trading, that's how.

No pay raises for those that don’t actually work. I’m talking to you Congress. I don’t get to vote for my own pay raises, but if I did I would have to prove to my employer that I’m deserving of it. Congress needs to take a huge pay cut until the country’s finances are in order.
They can't go back to somewhere they never been. Simple, don't show up for work, don't show up for a paycheck.
Absolutely.
If they wont to come back thats a easy way to cut the budget
Doge is like the IRS for government. This just might work
This is a bit challenging to hear.
If we didn’t have telework people would not had received service. Let’s pass some real reform that actually makes a diffecne in the budget
So proud of you, Joni.

What agency did you work for?
@richardchumbley4382 i get it. I once worked for an agency division where the director stated at an employee meeting that 98% productivity was acceptable yet negative employee evaluations were written based on that very statistic.
@JoanneLayman what does this mean? Are you talking about 98% of your time in office, 8 hours - 2 15-minute breaks and lunch 30 minutes to an hour? Do meetings count as productive times?
Knew an EPA employee in Denver..said they slept at their desk to get overtime...2002
You can tell she really enjoyed that speech. This is a passion piece for her.
Work results should be quantifiable with suitable standards of performance. If not people working at home is an allusion. As a former supervisor I found very few who produced at the same level as in office. Some can do it but if organizations have a work at home policy it is for all in similar jobs - you can't select on the work ethic of the employee.
The $100k+ in “overtime” for government workers has got to stop.
No overtime for salaried workers, only hourly up to a set limit.

2) 2 terms in the senate
3) pay is based off the average national income as reported by the IRS
4) all campaign financial donations can only come from people that live full time in the voting district for each candidate. no unions, no corporations, and no PACs.
5) no government retirement for any government workers, they need to be on SS just like the rest of "the people" are forced to be on and pay into.
6) cut the federal workforce by 10% per year until it stops being able to function, then freeze it there.
7) cut all federal pay to the national average income.
8) rewards given to those that come forward with proof of fraud in their departments.
